WHEN DOES A WAR END?
A collection of stories surrounding an all-female bomber crew, primarily derived from @hboww2rewatch ’s weekly prompt list + individual prompt requests. a special thanks to @basilone for letting me take inspiration from their masterpost for their own stories: the earth is run by mothers.

Dress Uniform ( December, 1942 )
Vivian “Viv” Savorre | Pilot, 26, Detroit, MI
Responds primarily to Viv — magazines love her, as do most reporters. Has an easy smile and a certain allure that leads people to believe that she was maybe a socialite or some type of high society girl before she joined the Army. Gives very little of herself, somehow manages to make you feel like her best friend regardless. Can throw a mean punch when prompted.
Wilhelmina “Willie” Neumann | Co-Pilot, 25, Stroudsburg, PA
Never introduces herself as anything but Willie. The “mouse” living in the bomber, a woman of very few words. Has good eyes and is very diligent about writing letters home to mom. Only ever speaks when she has something to say, a bit cold if you don’t know her well enough.
Inez Eckley | Navigator, 21, Nashville, TN
Too humble to function. Refuses to admit that she is in fact near-sighted. Her brother’s a minor league baseball player (do not ask her about it) and her mom just had another kid. First in her family to get a college degree — does not brag about this.
Fern Carmine | Radio Operator, 21, Racine, WI
Silver-spoon baby, part-time swindler. Will occasionally save the 100th from Bucky’s impromptu performances with a song of her own — unless they duet, which is tolerable. Don’t play her in darts unless you plan to lose. Loves to dance and loves when she can get the girls dancing with her.
Lena Connolly | Flight Engineer, 23, The Bronx, NY
Accepting any and all stupid nicknames derived from the fact that she is very Irish. Prides herself on being a fixer and being damn good at it. Strongly opinionated. Pretty much down for anything. Good at getting people out of trouble before the fists start flying.
Josephine “Jo” Alden | Tail Gunner, 24, Boston, MA
Also responds to Josie, Josie-Posie, and whatever other rhymes can be surmised from that. The Mom Friend. Suffers from middle kid syndrome and lived to tell the tale. Carries around a library in her footlocker and will hold your hair back when you throw up (after a mission or after a night at the bar).
Harriet “Harrie” Morgan | Ball Turret Gunner, 22, Montgomery, AL
A quintessential ray of pure sunshine. Loves a good sweet treat and lacks a knack for picking up lot of social cues. Very loud, very optimistic, undeniably and admirably fearless. Will scrunch her nose if you call her Harriet.
Carrie Hughes | Waist Gunner, 18, Denver, CO
Baby of the group. Nervous energy personified. A little bit naive and maybe not the bravest of the bunch but she’s getting there. Likes feeling pretty and getting compliments from the people she looks up to. Still finding her own bite.
Lorraine Ivanova | Waist Gunner, 20, Brooklyn, NY
Likes winning and being number one. Does not indulge in the antics unless hard-pressed to do so. Gonna get shit done no matter the cost. Doesn’t talk about herself all that much, makes it hard to know her.
June Cielinski | Bombadier, 21, Chicago, IL
Angry more often than not. Throws a mean punch. Doesn’t look like she can in fact throw that mean punch. Has two older brothers and it shows. Mouthy, opinionated, and downright degrading when you get on her bad side. An overly protective girls’ girl first and foremost.

This is a very long and rambling post about our house-buying process in Alabama, so here's a cut for courtesy.
We are in the process of buying a house in Prattville, AL which is a suburb of Montgomery.
We flew into Atlanta on Saturday, rented a car, and drove to my parents' house, which is an hour from Montgomery. We spent all day Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday touring houses. I had no idea what to expect. Unlike when we bought our previous two houses, we didn't really have a favorite going into this process. We also had many more constraints and mismatched desires, as well. And the market is much more expensive. We also think that we might be in this house for many years, maybe forever. There was just so much pressure to make the right choice, but I didn't even really know what would be right for us. I *did* know we couldn't buy a historic home in Montgomery because Montgomery public schools are too dysfunctional and underfunded to accommodate our ASD kid. That left the suburbs, and we have never lived in a suburb before.
I've been having a low-key identity crisis about all this for a while because for 20 years I've defined my adult personality based on living in urban and walkable communities. I had to ask myself if I would be okay living in "the country" or in a new-build community with an HOA next to a strip mall. I asked myself why I had constructed my identity the way I had. What was wrong with living in a brand new house? Why couldn't I be okay in a small neighborhood 15 minutes outside of town? I'm still not sure I know the answers to these questions, especially the question of why I don't like brand new tract housing, but it became clear to me while we were touring all these houses that I absolutely needed to live in a neighborhood that is big and safe enough (by which I mean it has sidewalks) to walk for 45 minutes or run for 30 minutes. So that ruled out country houses. We saw a lot of nice and very expensive tract houses in giant new neighborhoods, and although these houses do not feel like they're *for me* that is honestly just a matter of not liking their vibes rather than any real reasoning of logic or consequence.
Dominic and I also had differing values and desires going into this house hunt. He wanted something newer and much bigger. He wanted a bonus room and four bedrooms. He wanted a big master suite with a big shower and big closets and lots of storage space. He had even gotten really close to building a new house, and we did a test build with builders and had a house, floor plan, and everything picked out. I wasn't super comfortable with this, which I know is crazy because it's such a big commitment, but I went along with it because it was difficult for me to articulate what *is* important to me. Dominic was just a lot more certain about what he wanted, and I trust him, so I decided to be okay with trying something new. But then at the last minute he decided he didn't want to build with this company in that specific location, and that's when we realized we were going to have to fly down here and house hunt.
We saw so many houses. Most of them looked the same. They were all expensive and nice. We looked at a lot of properties with pools because that was one thing we agreed was important to us. We also looked at a couple of rambling old ranches near the historic downtown. They were both intriguing but too much of a project, especially at their price points. We also looked at a newer house near downtown as well. The owner was there for that tour, and she talked about how cute downtown Prattville is (it's just an L-shaped strip, but it *is* very cute). She said there were a couple of nice parks nearby and her family was always walking all over the neighborhood and walking downtown for parades and festivals and even tubing in a nearby creek. I didn't like her house very much, but I loved the idea of living so close to the historic downtown area, and the neighborhood is big and mixed with newer and older homes. The landscaping is established with trees and bushes and grasses and flowers.
I was interested in this house based on the location, but Dominic didn't really care for the house, and it really was just okay. I didn't feel great about it or bad about it. It was just a house built in 2012 or so, and it looked like every other house we had looked at except slightly smaller. So I let the idea of living near downtown go, and we kept looking.
But the very last house we looked at was another 70s ranch in the same neighborhood. I was certain it would be weird or need a lot of work or be too small for Dominic. And then it was kind of perfect. It was updated enough with new paint, appliances, and granite countertops, had original hardwood floors, a formal sitting room with glass French doors, a living room with a fireplace, a dining room, an eat-in kitchen, four bedrooms, three full baths, and a pool in the backyard. It even had a built-in wet bar in the living room, a period detail which I found hilarious and charming. It was also priced dramatically lower than the other houses we had seen, and it was one hilly but walkable mile from the historic downtown, which is comparable to our house in Omaha.
To me, it immediately felt like home. Like, this was emotional logic, not rational logic. It was not Dominic's first choice, and not nearly as big and updated as he wanted, but he agreed to it, and now we're in the process of buying it. Of course, it could fall through, but our offer has been accepted and we've put earnest money down and have a closing date. And I genuinely love this house. I was not expecting to feel anything but acceptance about this move. To feel genuine excitement about the very last house we looked at is amazing. This 70s ranch would be nothing special to many people, but to me it's wonderful. I hope we're able to close on it in May, and I hope my family and I will be very happy there for many years.

Jo Ann Gibson Robinson ,unsung activist (April 17, 1912 – August 29, 1992) was a civil rights activist and educator in Montgomery, Alabama.Known for initiating the 1955 bus boycott in Montgomery, AL, USA
Born near Culloden, Georgia, she was the youngest of twelve children. She attended Fort Valley State College and then became a public school teacher in Macon, where she was married to Wilbur Robinson for a short time. Five years later, she went to Atlanta, where she earned an M.A. in English at Atlanta University. After teaching in Texas she then accepted a position at Alabama State College in Montgomery. It was there she joined the Women's Political Council, which Mary Fair Burks had founded three years earlier. In 1949, Robinson was verbally attacked by a bus driver for sitting in the front "Whites only" section of the bus. Her response to the incident was to attempt to start a protest boycott. But, when she approached her fellow members of the Woman’s Political Council with her story and proposal, she was told that it was “a fact of life in Montgomery.” In late 1950, she succeeded Burks as president of the WPC and helped focus the group's efforts on bus abuses. Robinson was an outspoken critic of the treatment of African-Americans on public transportation. She was also active in the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church.
The Women's Political Council had made complaints about the bus seating to the Montgomery City Commission and about abusive drivers, and achieved some concessions, including an undertaking that drivers would be courteous and having buses stopping at every corner in black neighborhoods, as they did in European areas. After Brown vs. Board of Education, Robinson had informed the mayor of the city that a boycott would come and then after Rosa Parks arrest, they seized the moment to plan the boycott of the buses in Montgomery.
On Thursday, December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to move from her seat in the African area of the bus she was travelling on to make way for a white passenger who was standing. Mrs. Parks, a civil rights organizer, had intended to instigate a reaction from white citizens and authorities. That night, with Mrs. Parks permission, Mrs. Robinson stayed up mimeographing 52,500 handbills calling for a boycott of the Montgomery bus system. The boycott was initially planned to be for just the following Monday. She passed out the leaflets at a Friday afternoon meeting of AME Zionist clergy among other places and Reverend L. Roy Bennett requested other ministers attend a meeting that Friday night and to urge their congregations to take part in the boycott. Robinson, Reverend Ralph David Abernathy, two of her senior students and other Women's Council members then passed out the handbills to high school students leaving school that afternoon. After the success of the one-day boycott, African citizens decided to continue the boycott and established the Montgomery Improvement Association to focus their efforts. The Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. was elected president. Jo Ann Robinson became a member of this group. She had denied an official position to the Montgomery Improvement Association because of her teaching position at Alabama State. She served on its executive board and edited their newsletter. In order to protect her position at Alabama State College and to protect her colleagues, Robinson purposely stayed out of the limelight even though she worked diligently with the MIA. Robinson and other WPC members also helped sustain the boycott by providing transportation for boy-cotters.
Robinson was the target of several acts of intimidation. In February 1956, a local police officer threw a stone through the window of her house. Then two weeks later, another police officer poured acid on her car. Then the governor of Alabama ordered the state police to guard the houses of the boycott leaders. The boycott lasted over a year because the bus company would not give in to the demands of the protesters. After a student sit-in in early 1960, Robinson and other teachers that had supported the students, resigned their positions at Alabama State College. Robinson left Alabama State College and moved out of Montgomery that year. She taught at Grambling College in Louisiana for one year and then moved to Los Angeles and taught English in the public school system. In Los Angeles she continued to be active in local women's organizations. She taught in the LA schools until she retired from teaching in 1976. Jo Ann Robinson was also a part of the bus boycott and was strongly against discrimination.

Storm Tracker: Tropical Storm Leslie weakens as the next system set to develop will be named Nadine
As west-central Florida deals with the aftermath of Hurricane Milton and the Southeast continues recovering from Helene, the National Hurricane Center is monitoring the next potential storm, which will be named Nadine.
Climate and Average Weather Year Round in 85249 Chandler AZ:
https://www.behance.net/gallery/202817943/Weather-Forecast-For-85249-Chandler-AZ
Forecasters had been tracking a developing system off Florida's east coast, but it dissipated before reaching tropical storm strength.
Attention is now on a system in the eastern tropical Atlantic, located a few hundred miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands off Africa's coast. The system is moving westward and could develop into a tropical depression. However, significant development isn't expected until at least mid-next week, with a 40% chance of formation over the next seven days, according to the NHC.
According to AccuWeather forecasters, the tropics near the U.S. could remain quiet for most of next week. However, there is a medium risk of tropical development forecasted for Thursday, Oct. 17, to Saturday, Oct. 19, in the western Caribbean—the same region where Helene and Milton formed.
A gyre, a large area of spinning air currents, is expected to develop over Central America next week. "Within this large, slowly rotating low-pressure area, a more defined zone of showers and thunderstorms may emerge, potentially leading to the formation of a tropical depression or storm," said Alex DaSilva, AccuWeather's lead hurricane expert.

Where is Tropical Storm Leslie? Tropical Storm Leslie was designated on Oct. 2 and briefly strengthened into Hurricane Leslie before weakening back to a tropical storm on Thursday. As of Saturday, the National Hurricane Center reported that Leslie, located about 975 miles west-southwest of the Azores, had degenerated into a trough and posed no threat to the U.S. Leslie is currently producing maximum sustained winds of 50 mph with higher gusts, and the NHC expects it to gradually weaken over the next few days. Tropical Storm Leslie Spaghetti Models: These models are various forecast tools, but not all are of equal accuracy. The National Hurricane Center relies on the top four or five highest-performing models to guide its forecasts.
When does the 2024 hurricane season end?
The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30, leaving just over seven weeks remaining. So far, 13 named storms have formed, with the next ones to be named Nadine and Oscar.
After a relatively quiet period of about five weeks, the 2024 season became above average with the arrival of hurricanes Helene and Milton, according to Colorado State University meteorologist Phil Klotzbach.
Weather Forecast For 36117 - Montgomery AL:
With an Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) index of 127—a metric that accounts for storm frequency, intensity, and duration—the 2024 season now "officially meets NOAA's definition of an above-normal season," Klotzbach noted on X Wednesday.

Your oral health is crucial, and selecting a dentist who meets your needs and preferences is paramount. If you're in Montgomery, Alabama, and on the hunt for the perfect dentist, here are ten essential tips to guide you through the selection process.
1. Check Qualifications and Credentials: Begin your search by ensuring that the dentist is properly qualified and licensed. Look for certifications from reputable dental associations and verify their credentials with the Alabama Board of Dental Examiners.
2. Evaluate Experience and Specializations: Consider the dentist's experience and any specialized training or expertise they may have. Depending on your needs, you might prefer a dentist who specializes in cosmetic dentistry, orthodontics, or pediatric dentistry.
3. Ask for Recommendations: Seek recommendations from friends, family, or colleagues who have had positive experiences with dentists in Montgomery. Personal referrals can provide valuable insights into a dentist's quality of care and bedside manner.
4. Research Reputation and Reviews: Take the time to research the dentist's reputation online. Read reviews on platforms like Google, Yelp, or Healthgrades to gauge patient satisfaction levels and identify any recurring concerns or praises.
5. Consider Location and Accessibility: Opt for a dentist whose office is conveniently located near your home or workplace in Montgomery. Accessibility matters, especially if you have mobility issues or rely on public transportation.

7. Evaluate Technology and Treatment Options: Inquire about the dental technologies and treatment options available at the practice. A modern dental office equipped with advanced tools and techniques can offer more efficient and comfortable treatments.
8. Review Insurance and Payment Options: If you have dental insurance, ensure that the dentist accepts your plan and inquire about any out-of-pocket expenses. Additionally, discuss payment options and whether the practice offers flexible financing arrangements.
9. Meet the Dentist and Staff: Schedule a consultation or initial appointment to meet the dentist and their team. Pay attention to how they communicate and interact with you, as well as their willingness to address your concerns and answer your questions.
