Why Intelligence is a Powerful Trait in Nature
Intelligence, defined as the ability to learn, understand, and apply knowledge to solve problems and adapt to new situations, is a crucial trait in nature. It is a multifaceted trait that has significantly influenced the evolution and success of various species. Here are some reasons why intelligence is such a powerful trait in nature:
1. Problem-Solving Ability
Intelligence allows organisms to solve complex problems that they encounter in their environment. This problem-solving ability can lead to better survival strategies, such as finding food, avoiding predators, and securing shelter. For example, crows and primates have demonstrated remarkable problem-solving skills, such as using tools to access food.
2. Adaptability
Intelligence contributes to an organism's ability to adapt to changing environments. Intelligent species can learn from their experiences and modify their behavior to cope with new challenges. This adaptability is crucial for survival in dynamic ecosystems where conditions can change rapidly due to factors like climate change, natural disasters, or human activities.
3. Social Cooperation
Many intelligent species exhibit complex social behaviors that enhance their survival and reproductive success. Social cooperation, which includes behaviors like hunting in packs, sharing resources, and collective problem-solving, is often facilitated by higher intelligence. For instance, dolphins and elephants exhibit sophisticated social structures and cooperation that are crucial for their survival.
4. Innovation and Tool Use
The ability to innovate and use tools is a hallmark of intelligence. Tool use can provide significant advantages, such as accessing food that would otherwise be unavailable or creating shelters for protection. Humans are the most notable example of this, but other species, such as chimpanzees and certain bird species, also demonstrate tool use.
5. Communication Skills
Intelligent species often have advanced communication systems that allow them to convey information, warn of dangers, and coordinate group activities. Effective communication can improve the efficiency of social cooperation and enhance survival. For example, bees perform intricate dances to inform their hive-mates about the location of food sources.
6. Learning and Memory
The capacity to learn from past experiences and retain information through memory is a key aspect of intelligence. This allows organisms to avoid past mistakes, remember the locations of resources, and recognize patterns that are important for survival. Memory and learning are evident in a wide range of species, from humans to birds and marine mammals.
7. Strategic Planning
Intelligence enables the ability to plan for the future and engage in strategic thinking. This includes activities like storing food for the winter, migrating to favorable climates, and even long-term planning for reproductive success. Strategic planning can significantly enhance an organism's ability to thrive in its environment.
Intelligence is a powerful trait in nature because it enhances an organism's ability to solve problems, adapt to changes, cooperate socially, innovate, communicate, learn, remember, and plan strategically. These capabilities provide significant survival and reproductive advantages, making intelligence a key factor in the success of many species. As a result, intelligence has been naturally selected for in various forms across the animal kingdom, highlighting its crucial role in the evolutionary process.

hello i love big lizards
I had a lot of fun considering morphology and environmental adaptions but make it fantasy for these.
Insvilvar has rough, rocky looking spikes and lots of fins because he's old as hell and powerful. I like to think the fins aren't really useful for anything, they're more like a lion's mane. The better quality a red dragon's diet is, the more they have, to show they're successful and strong.
Cereza is basically a hatchling by dragon standards, so I made her build lankier and gave her fluff and feathers like a baby dinosaur :) this would be to keep her safe from the elements while her body is still small and not so good at thermoregulating yet.
Zoren was the most fun to conceptualize. He's built more stoutly, with shorter limbs and snout, and lots of fluff to conserve heat in his frozen home. And he's got big ol polar bear paws, to distribute his weight more evenly across ice and keep from breaking through.

Insects and Other Animals Have Consciousness, Experts Declare
A group of prominent biologists and philosophers announced a new consensus: There’s “a realistic possibility” that insects, octopuses, crustaceans, fish and other overlooked animals experience consciousness.
In 2022, researchers at the Bee Sensory and Behavioral Ecology Lab at Queen Mary University of London observed bumblebees doing something remarkable: The diminutive, fuzzy creatures were engaging in activity that could only be described as play. Given small wooden balls, the bees pushed them around and rotated them. The behavior had no obvious connection to mating or survival, nor was it rewarded by the scientists. It was, apparently, just for fun. The study on playful bees is part of a body of research that a group of prominent scholars of animal minds cited today, buttressing a new declaration that extends scientific support for consciousness to a wider suite of animals than has been formally acknowledged before. For decades, there’s been a broad agreement among scientists that animals similar to us — the great apes, for example —  have conscious experience, even if their consciousness differs from our own. In recent years, however, researchers have begun to acknowledge that consciousness may also be widespread among animals that are very different from us, including invertebrates with completely different and far simpler nervous systems...

I think a really fun idea to explore with Tim would be the idea of him having Hyperthymesia.
Hyperthymesia is an ability that allows people to recall almost every event of their life in great detail. It's extremely rare and honestly doesn't have that much research done on it, but recent studies have suggested that people with this ability are limited to autobiographical memories, people with HSAM sometime tend to show symptoms of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and may demonstrate obsessive tendencies.
I think it would be an interesting way to explain why Tim was able to recall his first meeting with Dick Grayson and connect the dots to seeing Robin. Tim does display a lot of obsessive behaviours, and while he doesn't really physically display compulsion (like someone with OCD would typically display) there certainly is a strong case to be made for him potentially having it.
But also, can you imagine how fucking horrible it would be for Tim to remember each and every traumatic thing that ever happens to him as a hero and those memories just never fading. Yes, it would make him a better detective and allow him to be arguably smarter than your average joe, but at what cost?

okay i put some thought into this
MALPRACTICE: Willingness and ability to break the law. Mostly a physical stat. How often to they break the law on a case by case basis. this is quantitative not qualitative. 13 and chase have both killed men on purpose, but kutner has set 3 different people on fire. INTELLIGENCE: Book smarts. Are you an A student or a B student. SOCIAL SKILLS: Ability to get along with others, ability to manipulate others, ability to make yourself be liked. CASE SOLVING: Different than raw intelligence. How many House MD Medical Mysteries do you solve. Let's call it creative brilliance. AMBITION: How likely are you to stab a dude to get ahead. CHUTZPAH: Taub's ability to score with 20 year olds. Kutner's ability to set people on fire and get away with it. Audacity. Doing wild shit and getting away with it. Taking big risks. EMOTIONS: How good are you at expressing your feelings and dealing with the feelings of others? Empathy is a part of this score but it's mostly a measure of how emotionally repressed are you.

EDIT: According to @realm-of-clouds these are AI generated pictures. Finding it hard to know what is true and what isn't nowadays.
