January 26 is 'Australia Day', AKA 'Invasion Day' or 'Survival Day'.
There will be protest rallies around the country.
The following text is via 'WAR: Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance':
2024 INVASION DAY RALLY - MELBOURNE — Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung Lands
Invasion Day Rally Melbourne
10AM Friday 26 January 2024
Parliament House Victoria.
We continue to call for treaty, truth and justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The 26th January, Australia Day is not a day to celebrate. It is an annual reminder of invasion, occupation, genocide and the ongoing impacts of colonisation that continues to destroy our lives, our lands and our waters. As the oldest living culture in the world, it is our right and our responsibility as First Nations people to protect our country, culture and our people. That is why we meet this day with protest and mourning, as one of the longest standing protests in the world.
A Dawn Service will be held at 5am at Kings Domain Resting Place, Linlithgow Avenue. This will be followed by the Invasion Day Rally where we will be meeting at 10am at the Victorian Parliament on Spring St and marching to Flinders St Station.
In recent months, distinct lines have been drawn both nationally and globally, marking those who endorse settler colonialism and those uniting to resist the enduring colonial forces that we strive to counteract. The repercussions of settler colonialism have been starkly illustrated in the ongoing genocide of Palestinians by Israel, supported by all other settler colonial states, including Australia.
In the wake of the unsuccessful 'Voice' campaign, the imperative to ensure the resonance of Indigenous Rights campaigns across the nation has become increasingly apparent. The concluded 'Voice' campaign exposed our community to reprehensible levels of vitriol from racists, sparking discussions about our humanity. This unsettling experience highlighted the perils of misinformation and disinformation during the referendum, aimed at demonising the Indigenous struggle. In response to these challenges, we are taking to the streets to demand treaty, truth, and justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
On this Invasion Day, as on every such occasion, we stand united for our families, communities, and all, asserting that all Black Lives Matter.
The Australia colony is a racist nation: there is no other conclusion from the referendum. We know and live this every day. Reconciliation is dead.
We want our land back now!
Join us in our fight to Abolish Australia Day.
We demand:
Treaty/Treaties
Land back and land rights - stop selling land promised to us
End Aboriginal deaths in custody
Climate justice
End the theft of Black children and return all Black children to their families and kin
Abolish police and prisons
Reparations
The Australian government stop arming Israel
We call on everyone to respect our demands and take action with us. We also remind attendees that COVID19 is still impacting our communities and we encourage all attendees to wear a mask, bring hand sanitiser and take all necessary precautions to keep each other safe.
Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance will be available for media interviews in the lead up to the rally. Please email [email protected] for interviews.

Reclaiming sacred ground.
October 30, 2024
Robert B. Hubbell
In a pitch-perfect ending to a nearly flawless campaign, Kamala Harris delivered an address on the Ellipse at the National Mall on Tuesday—the site of Trump's speech inciting the January 6 insurrection. By choosing the Ellipse as the location for her “closing argument,” Kamala Harris reclaimed sacred ground. No longer will the Ellipse be a scar on our nation’s history. Rather, it will be viewed as the fertile ground that gave birth to a new era in American history: Our first woman president; the beginning of the end of MAGA extremism; reclaiming reproductive liberty; and overturning tainted decisions by a compromised Supreme Court affecting the right to vote, the right of citizens to choose their legislators, and the right of ordinary citizens—not corporations or billionaires—to fund political campaigns.
But it is not only the Ellipse that will be reclaimed as sacred ground. Electing Kamala Harris will reclaim the White House as the “people’s house.” We will reclaim the Oval Office and the Resolute Desk as the seat of the leader of the free world. We will reclaim the presidency as an office of trust charged to “take care that the laws are faithfully executed.” And we will restore the rule of law to apply to all citizens—including the president.
With one week remaining until Election Day, we should enjoy the calm that flows from knowing that we have done everything asked of us—and more. In an improbable campaign that could have resulted in chaos and disunity among Democrats, Kamala Harris rose to the occasion and proved worthy of the trust and hope that millions of volunteers invested in her candidacy.
It is not over. Far from it. The next week calls for more intense effort than we have devoted in the last two years. But we are incredibly well positioned because of the work we have done, the organization we have created, and the people we have recruited. All we need to do is execute on the plans that have been laid carefully and lovingly over the last two years.
While we cannot count on Republicans to defeat themselves, they are doing their best to do so. There are credible reports that the decision by the Republican National Committee—controlled by the Trump family— to “outsource” most of the work traditionally done by volunteers and paid campaign staffers has resulted in chaos. For-profit third parties tried to replicate the organization and passion that Democratic grassroots volunteers built over years. Republicans learned the hard way that a campaign based on contract labor is no substitute for party faithful.
No matter. Our job does not change because of inept decisions made by Trump family members who viewed control of the RNC as another grift. But we can take confidence from the fact that our hard work has brought us to this moment fully prepared for the final push. In a turnout election, we have the tools and people in place to drive turnout. And we have the candidate who will drive turnout by offering a vision of hope, reconciliation, and reclamation of sacred ground that was lost under Trump.
Kamala Harris’ speech on the Ellipse
Kamala Harris’s address reprised the major themes of her campaign but with a sharper edge on the attacks against Trump and more conciliatory language offered to Trump's supporters. To all Americans, she promised to put the interests of the nation above her own—a refreshing departure from Trump's incessant narcissism.
The video of VP Harris’s speech is here: Closing Argument Speech from Vice President Kamala Harris. It well worth watching in its entirety, but the last few minutes—HERE—are stirring.
A sampling of her speech is set forth below:
[F]or too long we have been consumed with too much division, chaos, and mutual distrust. And it can be easy then to forget a simple truth: It doesn't have to be this way.
We have to stop pointing fingers and start locking arms. It is time to turn the page on the drama and the conflict, the fear and division. It is time for a new generation of leadership in America
Look, we know who Donald Trump is: He is the person who stood at this very spot, nearly four years ago, and sent an armed mob to the United States Capitol to overturn the will of the people in a free and fair election. An election that he knew he lost. And while Donald Trump sat in the White House watching as the violence unfolded on television, he was told by his staff that the mob wanted to kill his own vice president, and Donald Trump responded with two words: So what?
Unlike Donald Trump, I don't believe people who disagree with me are the enemy. He wants to put them in jail. I'll give them a seat at the table.
I’ll be honest with you, I’m not perfect. I make mistakes. But here’s what I promise you: I will always listen to you, even if you don’t vote for me. I will always tell you the truth, even if it is difficult to hear. I will work every day to build consensus and reach compromise to get things done.
I will fight to restore what Donald Trump and his hand-selected Supreme Court justices took away from the women of America.
Harris closed her speech with a reminder of the greatness and promise of America:
They did not struggle, sacrifice, and lay down their lives, only to see us cede our fundamental freedoms only to see us submit to the will of another petty tyrant. The United States of America is not a vessel for the schemes of wannabe dictators. The United States of America is the greatest idea humanity ever devised. A nation big enough to encompass all our dreams. Strong enough to withstand any fracture or fissure between us. And fearless enough to imagine a future of possibilities. So, America, let us reach for that future. Let us fight for this beautiful country we love. And in 7 days, we have the power to turn the page, and start writing the next chapter in the most extraordinary story ever told.
It was a stirring and unifying speech.
As Kamala Harris was rising to the occasion of her closing argument, Donald Trump was reprising the greatest hits from his Madison Square Garden hate-fest. Many in the Puerto Rican community have been waiting to see if Trump would apologize for the “floating island of garbage” remarks, as well as racist and antisemitic remarks directed to Black and Jewish Americans. The wait was a waste of time.
During a Monday speech at Mar-a-Lago, Trump referred to the Madison Square Garden event, saying.
The love in that room, it was breathtaking. There’s never been an event that beautiful. It was a love fest. It was love for our country.
Trump's absolute refusal to apologize increases the degree to which members of the Puerto Rican community will blame Trump personally for the comments of the comedian who made the offensive “joke.”. There is a strong backlash in Pennsylvania, a swing state with a significant population of Americans of Puerto Rican descent.

Happy Canada Day – July 1st: A Time for Celebration and Reflection Shaina Tranquilino July 1, 2024
Tumblr media
Canada Day, celebrated every July 1st, marks the anniversary of the Confederation when Canada became a self-governing dominion within the British Empire in 1867. This day is often filled with festivities, fireworks, parades, and patriotic displays as Canadians come together to celebrate their nation.
Yet, amidst the jubilations, it is crucial to remember that Canada’s history is complex and multifaceted. This land we celebrate on Canada Day is also the ancestral and unceded territory of Indigenous peoples who have lived here for thousands of years. As we don our red and white attire and wave our flags, we must also take time to honour and acknowledge this truth.
Celebrating Canada’s Achievements
Canada has much to be proud of. From breathtaking landscapes and natural beauty to multicultural cities and a reputation for politeness and peace, Canada stands out on the global stage. Our contributions to science, technology, art, and humanitarian efforts are commendable. Canadians have a rich heritage of resilience and innovation, and Canada Day is an opportunity to celebrate these achievements and the diverse fabric that makes up our nation.
Acknowledging Indigenous Land
However, alongside these celebrations, we must recognize that Canada’s history is deeply intertwined with the histories of Indigenous peoples. Before European settlers arrived, Indigenous communities had established thriving societies with their own cultures, languages, and governance structures. The process of colonization led to the displacement, suffering, and marginalization of these communities.
Acknowledging that we are on stolen Indigenous land is a vital step towards reconciliation. It means recognizing the sovereignty of Indigenous nations and understanding that the lands we live on were not given up willingly. It is about honouring treaties and commitments that have been made—and too often broken—and working towards meaningful, respectful relationships with Indigenous peoples.
Doing Better as a Country
As we celebrate Canada Day, it is also a time to reflect on how we can do better. This includes:
Educating Ourselves and Others: Learn about the history and cultures of Indigenous peoples in Canada. This knowledge can foster greater understanding and respect.
Supporting Indigenous Communities: Advocate for policies and initiatives that address the disparities faced by Indigenous peoples. Support Indigenous businesses, artists, and organizations.
Acknowledging Land Rights: Understand and respect the concept of Indigenous land rights and the significance of land acknowledgments. These acknowledgments should be more than just words; they should be accompanied by action and commitment.
Promoting Reconciliation: Engage with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. These recommendations provide a roadmap for repairing relationships and creating a more equitable society.
A Day of Unity and Reflection
Canada Day is not just a day for celebration but also a day for reflection. It is an opportunity to come together as a nation, acknowledging both our triumphs and our responsibilities. By recognizing the full scope of our history and committing to a path of reconciliation, we can honour the true spirit of Canada—a spirit of inclusion, respect, and unity.
So, as we celebrate Canada Day this year, let’s take a moment to acknowledge the land we are on, honour the Indigenous peoples who have cared for it long before us, and commit to actions that foster understanding and justice. Only then can we truly celebrate the beauty and promise of Canada.
Happy Canada Day! Let's celebrate and reflect together.

Nov. 11, 2024
Monday is Veterans Day.
And now that we’ve gone through a bruising political campaign, with Republican Donald Trump having the greatest comeback in American political history, winning the Electoral College and the popular vote, there is some talk–except on MSNBC–about American reconciliation and unity.
As they try to make sense of what happened to them, and what they did to themselves and to the nation, here’s my question:
Are we to open our arms to our leftist neighbors, even if they spat on the American flag and used the power of corporate media to compel many Americans to kneel during our national anthem?
Our memories are short in America. We are encouraged to forget much of what happens to us. Memories get in the way of commerce.
But I can’t forget what the left has done. I just can’t. I once loved watching pro-football on Sunday. I began to fall away from it with the mounting evidence that the sport created brain damage. And still, those of us who loved it, loved it. We ignored the moral implications of avoiding the truth.
Yet the universe changed. Those who refused to bend the knee, and kneel during the singing  of the national anthem–or worse, dared complain about it–were threatened with public shaming as racists and fascists. The corrupt corporate media was the lash that forced many to their knees. And once denounced as racists by the jacobin left, many believed they’d be isolated and fired, especially if they worked in government or for a corporation. And some were indeed fired, their lives upended, their families hurt.
The National Football League is a corporation too. Now the NFL is all about cammo and snappy salutes and Old Glory. The league of gladiators has become the NFL that loves America now, as it loved apple pie and Chevrolet. And like those other corporate interests, like the corporate media and the Democratic Party just loves the red, white and blue.
But like I said, November 11 is Veteran’s Day. Have we forgotten what they did to strike at Republican hearts?
Forgive me Jesus, but I just can’t easily open my arms to those who spat on our flag and compelled other Americans to kneel–not to God during prayer–but to the Godless jacobin left during the hateful rituals they spewed out on Sundays, with the Democrats of the American left that was finally slapped down on Tuesday by Americans who voted them out of office and elected President Trump.
I’m for redemption, yes. And forgiveness.
But how can there be public redemption without public confession? Without public admission of sin? Without saying: America we took your pastime and threw it in the garbage to weaken Donald Trump. I don’t know if I’m alone in this. If I am, it wouldn’t be the first time. And it’s natural that after a long, often an ugly political campaign, that Americans want to get back to “normal.” Ok that’s fine. But what is “normal” exactly?
Years ago, the argument over kneeling during the anthem at NFL games jumped to the Chicago Police Department. Two Chicago police officers, both African-American, made news for being photographed in uniform, kneeling in support of protests against police brutality.
Then Democrat Mayor Rahm Emanuel didn’t want to touch it. He had troubles of his own with black voters, having sat on that video of a white police officer shooting a black teenager to death until after his re-election was secure. Police were prohibited from engaging in political activity in uniform. But the mayor declined to engage about the cops on their knees. President Joe Biden made him ambassador to Japan.
And the hint of the lawlessness to come for Chicago during the next “Summer of Love” was revealed by Chicago’s politics. Democrat politicians were either of the hard left, like Kamala Harris or they were terrified by the left, and so, they capitulated as did Rahm.
Of his kneeling police officers, Rahm told reporters:
“They were somewhat betwixt, between two different aspirations.”
Betwixt? I’ve never heard a Chicago politician use “betwixt” before.
Remember that conservatives didn’t push this NFL protest drama. The Democrat Party, the left, pushed it for years. Remember also that in St. Louis and Washington, black NFL players raised their hands on the field, in the “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” pose in support of slain Ferguson, Missouri, police shooting victim Michael Brown, who turned out to be a dangerous thug, not some hero. The remaking of Michael Brown into some kind of plaster saint was was a lie. It was a Democrat organizing stunt and the same thing was done with another thug, the BLM sainted George Floyd.
And it was all a lie.
Later came another try, with the hapless weakling Mayor Lori Lightfoot. It involved the left’s political point man and mediocre quarterback Colin Kaepernick — wearing warm-up socks with pink pigs as police officers on them — first sitting, then kneeling through the anthem to protest police brutality.
What did the political left want? It wanted a revolt of the gladiators on national television. And it got what it wanted.
And generations of politicians averted their eyes, to brutality and lawlessness. The Soros prosecutors amplified this trend.
The NFL watched the left march through the league and the corporate chieftains and the owners did nothing. That was fear talking. And confusion breeds more fear. The rogue gladiators pushed it and pushed it until it all became food for the “Summer of Love” overwhelming big city mayors who were also fearful of exerting leadership.
By the “Summer of Love” of 2020, the Black Lives Matter riots blossomed out of this firmament, and the cities burned. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker were terrified of angering black rioters and looters, so they let the cities be destroyed. Gov. Fat Boy and company they talk tough about Trump, but like the coward on the edge of a barfight, when it was really time to throw hands, they averted their eyes and just looked away wanting mommy to bring them cookies and milk.
Will it all be erased by loving the Cowboys and the Bears and the Lions? And perhaps buying some NFL cammo gear? Perhaps.
But what about those NFL kneepads, for kneeling on hard ground as Old Glory is stretched tight and thousands sing? Can we get those in cammo, to save the knees if not our national pride?
This isn’t the ’60s. It is cops who are are under siege. They’re the ones being shot for a color: blue.  On Sunday, a mass was scheduled for fallen Chicago Police Officer Enrique Martinez at St. Christina Church on the Southwest Side. Officer Martinez, only 26, was gunned down by three thugs during a South Side traffic stop on Monday night.
America is not a racist country. We twice elected a black man from Chicago as president of the United States. Rumor has it that his bid for a “third” term in the White House was denied, unequivocally by the American people, on Election Day.
So are we a perfect country? No. Not exactly. But lest we forget, we are a great one. Yet all too often, we’re encouraged to forget.
Even on Veteran’s Day when we honor all those who served
And today, I’m all about remembering.

The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed
Tumblr media
Readings of Saturday, November 2, 2024
Reading 1
WIS 3:1-9
The souls of the just are in the hand of God, and no torment shall touch them. They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead; and their passing away was thought an affliction and their going forth from us, utter destruction. But they are in peace. For if before men, indeed, they be punished, yet is their hope full of immortality; chastised a little, they shall be greatly blessed, because God tried them and found them worthy of himself. As gold in the furnace, he proved them, and as sacrificial offerings he took them to himself. In the time of their visitation they shall shine, and shall dart about as sparks through stubble; they shall judge nations and rule over peoples, and the LORD shall be their King forever. Those who trust in him shall understand truth, and the faithful shall abide with him in love: because grace and mercy are with his holy ones, and his care is with his elect.
Responsorial Psalm
PS 23:1-3A, 3B-4, 5, 6
R./ The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. or: R./ Though I walk in the valley of darkness, I fear no evil, for you are with me.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. In verdant pastures he gives me repose; beside restful waters he leads me; he refreshes my soul. R./ The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. or: R./ Though I walk in the valley of darkness, I fear no evil, for you are with me.
He guides me in right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk in the dark valley I fear no evil; for you are at my side with your rod and your staff that give me courage. R./ The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. or: R./ Though I walk in the valley of darkness, I fear no evil, for you are with me.
You spread the table before me in the sight of my foes; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. R./ The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. or: R./ Though I walk in the valley of darkness, I fear no evil, for you are with me.
Only goodness and kindness follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD for years to come. R./ The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. or: R./ Though I walk in the valley of darkness, I fear no evil, for you are with me.
Reading 2
ROM 5:5-11
Brothers and sisters: Hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. For Christ, while we were still helpless, died at the appointed time for the ungodly. Indeed, only with difficulty does one die for a just person, though perhaps for a good person one might even find courage to die. But God proves his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. How much more then, since we are now justified by his Blood, will we be saved through him from the wrath. Indeed, if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more, once reconciled, will we be saved by his life. Not only that, but we also boast of God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
Gospel
JN 6:37-40
Jesus said to the crowds: “Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me, because I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me. And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.”
