History of National Banana Cream Pie Day
Historians have traced back the origins of pie to the Neolithic Period, around 6000 B.C. It has been discovered that during this period, ancient Egyptians made a version of pies called ‘galettes,’ which were rustic free-form pies, made from oats, wheat, rye, and barley. The crust was filled with honey and the galettes were then baked over hot coals.
In 1620, European pilgrims came to America with their favorite family pie recipes. These recipes were adapted to accommodate the resources already available to them in America. Initially, their pies were baked using berries and fruits that the Native Americans showed them. The European women used round pans for their baking in order to stretch the ingredients as they were scarce.
In the 1700s, American women cemented the tradition of serving pies with every meal and thus the pie became an important part of American cuisine and culture. Pies were seen at every public gathering and fair in America. As more settlers moved to other parts of the continent, various kinds of regional pies were created. Pie ingredients are constantly being experimented with to this day to meet the demands of a hungry, pie-loving population.
Banana Cream Pies became famous in the 20th century. In the 1950s, these pies became the favorite dessert of many American soldiers. These pies were essentially thin pastries, full of thick and creamy banana custard. The pie’s popularity has spread worldwide. The British version of this is the Banoffee pie, which is made using bananas and toffee.

Duff Goldman’s Kellogg’s NYC Residency Menu
Food AND Drink
Type of Funny Food: Event
Introduced: September 2018
Location: Kellogg’s NYC
Kellogg’s NYC is a now-closed “cereal cafe” that took up residence in Times Square- and then Union Square- from 2016 to 2019. In that short time, the cereal giant-owned cafe hosted a number of events, including one for National Cereal Day, and another for Pop-Tarts.
Another of these events was a two-day residency helmed by famed pastry chef and ‘Ace of Cakes’ Duff Goldman. Goldman created his own cereal-themed menu for the occasion, which included food- main course and dessert alike, and one drink!
The menu options were:
Corn Flakes Crunchy Mac ‘n’ Cheese, a baked bacon mac and cheese topped with Corn Flakes,
Special K Red Berry Yummy Frisée Salad, a curled endive salad with Special K Red Berry croutons, whole grain mustard vinaigrette, and cranberries, served with Corn Flakes-baked potatoes au gratin,
Snap Crackle Poppin’ Matzo Balls with Chicken Soup, Rice Krispies-based matzo balls in vegetable-filled chicken soup,
Kellogg’s Krispie Fish Sticks, Rice Krispies and Corn Flakes-battered cod sticks served in an actual fish bowl with your choice of assorted sauces,
Sunny-sensational Lahmajoun, a Turkish flatbread made with with bran dough drizzled with labneh and mint and covered in date puree, raisins, shredded haloumi, tumeric parsley pesto, lamb and sesame Raisin Bran sausage, and diced white onion,
Big Apple Jacks Bowl, a caramel-drizzled “deconstructed” caramel apple with a “snickerdoodle surprise” and peanut candy clusters, served in an event-exclusive bowl designed by Goldman,
Frosted Flakes Pumpkin Spiced-Up Rompope, a drink filled with Pumpkin Spice Frosted Flakes custard and topped with Frosted Flakes streusel and cinnamon whipped cream,
G-r-r-reatest Banana Kream Pie Ever, a maple-cinammon banana cream pie with Frosted Flakes crust with milk chocolate and Krave inside,
and the Not So Mini Mini-Wheats Upside Down Cake, a pineapple and Frosted Mini-Wheats cake a la mode with pan-toasted Rice Krispies.
Interestingly, one offering was present in advertising for the event, but didn’t seem to make it to the official menu. This was some flavor (ha) of Froot-Loops-themed macaron and cookie with a color-changing rainbow custard that came out of a toothpaste tube.
Donations made during the short residency were given to the charity No Kid Hungry. Customers could also buy themed merchandise, such as the aformentioned Duff-designed cereal bowl.

Chapter 4 - Stories From the NSA (an Incredibles fanfic)
Summary: One particular Super struggles to find out what's in a name
__________________________________________
Great. This was just GREAT.
Harvey Anderson sighed for the tenth time in that short duration that he had sat at the counter of Municiberg’s local diner, playing with his food and tearing up little pieces at a time of the napkin next to his plate. Stress pricked at him like pins and needles as he waited for an idea to hit him.
But the truth of the matter was that it just wasn't .
It hadn’t been for the past week, and time was running out. His inauguration as an official superhero into the National Supers Agency was in just a few hours , and Rick Dicker would not be pleased to discover that he would have nothing to call him when presenting him to the rest of the board at the ceremony.
A part of him felt frustrated. He had assumed that the NSA would just give him a Super name that they saw fitting. Harvey wouldn’t have minded that. After all, it would be he who would be going out and doing all of the hard work, going out into the field to battle and trap criminals. But a part of him was also grateful for the opportunity to choose. The way he saw it, the NSA wanted him to pick something he liked and would not mind being called when going out to stop villains. But what Dicker and the NSA didn’t know was that he was terrible at trying to name things. As a child, it had taken him almost a month to just name his pet dog. It had taken a similar span of time to title projects or reports for school, most of the time just resorting to calling it ‘My Project’ or ‘My Essay.’ And now there was this, likely one of the most important naming he had to do, and not one idea had struck him.
Okay, perhaps he should backtrack. Ideas had come to him, yes. But Harvey didn’t exactly count them, because of how terrible they were.
He had figured going with the powers he had was a no-brainer, and started off his brainstorming from there. But when it came down to it, it just wasn’t working out. He liked his powers, sure – being able to disintegrate atomical force from a ray on his forehead was nothing short of outstanding. But to call himself “Forehead Ray Disintegration Guy” would be foolish. Why, by the time he approached a villain and presented himself with the name, the villain would have likely turned tail and ran off by then. It was too long, and too cheesy.
But he needed to hurry up and think up something. It wasn’t a time to delay. Something needed to thought up. NOW.
In desperation, Harvey looked around, the ideas coming to him left and right, passing through his mind in a quick succession like papers in an office pending a stamp of approval or rejection.
He looked down at his hand, seeing the fork in between his fingers. Hmm… ‘Fork Man’? He supposed he’d be forking in criminals on a day-to-day basis. But would the civilians get that? Anybody else who heard the name ‘Fork Man’ would probably be inclined to believe that he was a guy who solely dealt with the utensil. But, that of course was not the case. ‘Fork Man’ was out.
Hmm… His eyes flicked over to the side of his plate, where a spoon was. ‘ Spoon Dude’? No. That was just as silly as his first idea with the fork. He gritted his teeth. He really had to stop thinking about utensils. They would all be a no-go.
As his fork went back into the delicious desert he had been eating, he tilted his head in consideration. ‘Banana Cream Pie Throwing Man’? Nah. Throwing cream pies was not in any way related to his powers. That was something clowns did! It would only earn laughs from the villains he confronted, as well as laughs from the civilians he was out to save. And he did not want to be laughed at.
His eyes flicked upward to the diner’s television, where some silly comedy show was playing for any patrons who were interested. He squinted. ‘Black-and-white-TV Guy’? Nuh-uh. He mentally scratched off any entertainment-related names.
His gaze traveled down to the large menu mounted upon the wall with various deals, hot plates, and drinks that were offered. ‘Menu Mensch’? Well sure, he considered himself noble and admirable. But where in the world would ‘Menu’ fit in with that? It wouldn’t. ‘Menu Mensch’ was no good.
He grabbed another napkin from the dispenser to wipe his lips from the remainder of the pie’s whipped cream that had stayed on his mouth and kept thinking. Maybe… ‘The Napkin Dispenser Guy’? He shook his head. No way he wanted that name for his Super self.
He pinched the bridge of his nose, suppressing the groan of exasperation that was wishing to worm its way out of him. This wasn’t going to work out. He just knew it. It seemed like he would have no other choice but to go with ‘The Napkin Dispenser Guy,’ and likely become endlessly ridiculed for it. But it is what it is, he told himself as he gave the waitress the bill and tip and then gathered his items to make his way back up to exit. The man hung his head, ashamed for not even being officially part of the NSA yet and still letting them - and himself - down. All he could do was look down at the placemat at the door, wishing things could be as easy as eating food from Ralph’s Diner.
Wait. He paused. Diner… perhaps… ‘Diner Guy’?
Harvey sighed, unsure. Like ‘Fork Man,’ ‘Diner Guy’ felt quite restrictive. If folks heard that name, they would think he was only out to protect the diner and its patrons, not anyone else. But perhaps he could play around with the name a bit… Hmm. Let’s see. ‘Diner Guy’… Die… Dy… Dy NA Guy? His eyes widened. DynaGuy! Had he finally found it? His mind worked double-time to really think this through, repeating the name over and over in his head. DynaGuy… DynaGuy… Well, dyna mite was explosive. Dyna mo was full of energy. Dyna mic had a very positive connotation. Dinosaurs were big and strong. All of the related words he could think of were very powerful sounding indeed. And if he was going to be a Super, he needed to give off that vibe, make the baddies, the civvies, and all the fellow Supers he’d soon come to meet that impression of magnitude.
Harvey smiled. Finally! He had figured it out. And just in the nick of time, too. In an hour or so, according to his watch, Rick Dicker would come to find out of his very clever, yet dynamic Superhero name. And when he got home later on that evening, he would practice what he hoped would become his most famous slogan, making civilians gasp in awe and villains shake in their evil boots:
“Stop right there, nefarious fiend! It's DynaGuy!"
And all his spectacular dynamics would follow after that.

National Banana Cream Pie Day
We celebrate National Banana Cream Pie Day on March 2 every year. This is a day to commemorate one of the tastiest dishes in the U.S. Although there are many kinds of pie in the U.S., banana cream pie is unique because of the variety of flavors and textures that it brings to the palate. All pie lovers come together on National Banana Cream Pie Day to make and eat their favorite banana cream pie recipe.
