Happy Burn Notice Week 2020!

I have a confession to make. Ever since the first month of quarantine, I’ve had Burn Notice on Hulu on serious rotation. It’s become my security blanket with every rewatch, helping to soothe my anxiety and reminding me that all is not lost. 

With that in mind, I’ve never participated in Burn Notice Week here on Tumblr, so I thought I’d have a little fun and help others take their minds off their troubles as well and create this unofficial Burn Notice fan favorites survey for the show that still lives on in our hearts.

a run-down of / my thoughts on the novel ‘trade secrets’

so! i’ve recently finished this beautifully written novel by @bettsican​, and am anxiously anticipating for the second book in the trilogy! (seriously, give it a read. it’s a great lgbtq+ thriller and mystery story, i promise you’ll love it!! you can find trade secrets in many places, including amazon, where it’s only $6)

as i was reading it, i noted down all the thoughts i had. it was fun, interesting, and kept me on the edge of my seat!

okay so this book was SO good, and so well written. like damn

aside from that horrible ending how could you do this to me

i’m joking, it was an incredible and emotional ending, i loved it and hated it at the same time

it very rarely felt static, and especially in the first half, there was a good mix of action and backstory/description. it was never boring

the story is just,,, so unique. i seriously haven’t read anything like it, EVER

the world-building?? Is?? so vast?? and insane??

the increasing tension and speed as the story progressed is perfect, i felt my heart beating faster the more i read

A member of the online Transformer fandom for many many years, he discovered a talent for comic colouring while studying his degree in 2D digital animation, and has since contributed to many Transformers fan endeavours, including Transformers: Mosaic and Transformers: The Lost Seasons and has worked professionally on Titan's Transformers: Prime comic, Fub Pub's Transformers Collectors Club comics and on various projects for Botcon and Joecon. Outside of Transformers he's worked on properties such as GI Joe, Power Rangers and Geek Girl as well as the critically acclaimed graphic novel Video Nasty. I was kinda surprised that they were going to get another story when I heard about it years ago because I thought they got their happy ended. I was interested to see what kind of drama unfolded. In all honesty it seemed a little far fetched that someone would go to those extremes to cause problems. They’re probably people like that and I don’t know about them because I’m not around shitty people like that.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I liked that it was a quick read. I flew through it like nobody’s business. Though I did think it was a good addition to their story, I had major eye rolls going on. All this talk about him being resentful if she said to stay, she was acting all resentful. What the hell do you want girl?!? Geez. Don’t tell someone to do something to hold against them later. I hated that.

After all said and done, I’m glad everything worked out. Poor Eva had a lot to deal with and I’d probably would have reacted the same way. Overall, I thought it was a sweet ending. 

Jason is sick of living in his rock star brother’s shadow. So when he ships off to Sea Breeze, Alabama, he’s looking for a much deserved escape and a chance to blow off some envious steam. Falling for the local bad girl was definitely not the plan. But as the new duo enjoys some naughty fun in the Alabama sun, Jason learns that even though Jax is the musician in the family, he’s not the only brother who can rock someone’s world.

What I liked:

It was very steamy throughout. 

I liked Jess knew what she wanted and went for it. She doesn’t hold back and she’s not shy. lol. 

I liked that this involved Jason, Jax’s brother. I liked him in Just for Now and was excited to see more of him. He was an idiot sometimes though lol.

What Jess did to help her mom out. Honorable in my eyes.

Jason was still a good person despite his horrible evil mother. 

Loved how they first met. 

Overall I liked this and thought they were a great couple. A very quick and fun book to read.

Innocence was never meant for the addictive… Addiction was something Krit Corbin accepted as part of his nature a long time ago. He decided to embrace it and flip his finger at the rules. Women had always been the number one thing on his list of addictions. He couldn’t get enough. Being the lead singer in a rock band had only made access to his favorite addiction that much easier. Being alone was the only thing Blythe Denton understood. The small town minister’s family that raised her hadn’t accepted her as their own. The minister’s wife had always made sure Blythe understood just how unworthy she was of love. When Blythe is sent away to college and given a chance to finally be free of living as an unwanted burden, she looks forward to having peace in her life. Being alone isn’t something that bothers her. She escapes reality in the stories she writes. However, the ridiculously sexy tattooed guy who keeps throwing parties in the apartment above hers is driving her crazy. For starters, he doesn’t treat her like she would expect a guy with a different woman always hanging on his arm to treat someone as uninteresting as her. She looks nothing like the gorgeous women she sees parading in and out of his apartment, but for some strange reason he keeps showing up at her door. During a party at his apartment, Krit’s new neighbor comes to the door with her long brown hair pulled up in a messy knot and a pair of glasses perched on her cute little nose. She wants him to turn down the music, but he convinces her to stay. Krit Corbin may have just found his biggest addiction yet. And Blythe Denton realizes too late that she’s finally been claimed.

Krit is a womanizer rock god until Blythe moves in. I didn’t like how he treated the woman even though they knew what to expect, it almost seemed wrong to read. I’m just glad he changed his tune after a while. Blythe, I felt so bad for. That’s something nobody should go through. It made her so naive to the world and thought the worst in herself. I just wanted to hug her sometimes. 

I liked how gradually they become more. Krit was just adorable around her and Blythe saw the best in Krit when no one else did. They honestly were like the perfect match. Can I say how awesome Trisha was? She wasn’t going to let anyone mess with her brother.

Another good book. I go through these books like nobody’s business. 

Six years ago, Dewayne Falco’s life changed. He lost someone he never expected to lose. Resigned to punish himself for something he felt he could have prevented, he goes through life without getting too close to anyone. What he didn’t expect was for the girl across the street to move back home and remind him of what they both lost: Dewayne’s younger brother Dustin. Sienna was very naive. There was so many hints that she didn’t pick up that Dustin was a douche. I mean it sucks what happened to him but still she should have figured it out or kicked him to the curb. I felt bad for her. Her parents sucked big time, she was alone dealing with everything, and she was mourning still. But that didn’t stop her being an awesome mom. 

It was nice to see what Dewayne was thinking. I always found him interesting and funny in the past books and was glad he finally got his story and happy ending. He’s was such a tough guy but became mush whenever Sienna was around. It was so sweet. 

Overall, I liked it. It was such a good book and that ending made me tear up.

I thought it was an okay book. I thought it was going to be more on Rock and Trisha but they got such a small portion. I loved how they were with the siblings of Preston’s that they adopted. They were so sweet together. I did like it showed more of Trisha and Krit’s younger days and the crappy stuff they had to deal with. My issue was how unbelievable it was during their high school days. I find it hard to believe that every girl wants to get with boys of the books because back in my highschool days, boys didn’t look and act like the boys did in this book. lol

While I liked that every couple got an epilogue, it bothered me also. I’m sorry but sex does not fix fights or insecurities. And almost everyone that had some issues that was solved by sex. Deep sigh. Besides that, I liked that it showed 10 years in the future with everyone and their kids. They breed like a bunch of rabbits. lol. I also liked that it showed Bliss (Cage and Eva’s daughter) and her meeting Nate Finlay (Rush and Blaire’s son). I’m sure that will be an interesting book.

*On a side note- She needs a better editor. I understand typos and mistakes happen but in almost every book I read was something that needed corrected. My biggest issue was inconsistency. For example in one book: the character was putting on his shirt while talking then a few sentences later, he was putting on the same damn shirt. Like??? He came in with one and now he’s layering. lol

(Sort of prompted by this post. ...Or maybe it was this post.) So, here's me, looking at all my ships and deciding if they (and their canon relationship) count as the “emotional heart of the story”, OR if I were to reach in and rip them (primarily their relationship) out, would the story be torn apart? YES = they are necessary to the story! NO = the story would get on fine without their relationship UNCLEAR = their relationship has an uncertain importance to the plot Before you read the whole long list (and keep in mind, these are just my ships, and not even all of them, and just my opinions), have some statistics. TOTAL SHIPS = about 87 YES ships = 56 (m/m = 28, f/m = 28) NO ships = 15 (m/m = 9, f/m = 6) UNCLEAR ships = 16 (m/m = 8, f/m = 7, f/f = 1) and because the original intent of this post (as mentioned here) was to see if m/m ships tend to be the “emotional heart of the story” (aka do I mostly ship m/m and is that why?) : M/M ships = 45 (YES = 28, NO = 9, UNCLEAR = 8) F/M ships = 41 (YES = 28, NO = 6, UNCLEAR = 7) F/F ships = 1 ^^; (UNCLEAR = 1) And have one more set of stats, dealing with if these ships are canon or not. (“Mostly Canon” are ships whose canon status is debatable, like it was never explicitly stated, or it's an option, like in some games.) CANON = 27 (m/m = 5, f/m = 21, f/f = 1) Mostly CANON = 12 (m/m = 2, f/m = 10) Not Canon = 48 (m/m = 38, f/m = 10) So, I could probably stand to analyze these stats a little more, but the overall takeaways I'm getting are these: – My ships are fairly evenly SPLIT between m/m and f/m. – MOST of my ships are relevant to the overarching story of the series. --Most of my ships are NOT CANON, but not by a huge margin. --The “heart of the story” is SPLIT between m/m and f/m ships in my favorite series. Hunter x Hunter: --Gon/ Killua : YES, Gon and Killua's relationship IS the heart of the story. Without their intense friendship, many of the plot points in the story would never have happened. While Gon may still have found his father, the whole story would be extremely different, perhaps to the point of unrecognizability. –Leorio/Kurapika : NO. Unfortunately, as much as I love them, their relationship is not strictly integral to the story. --Meruem/Komugi : (mostly canon) YES. While it's not the entire story, their relationship IS vital to the fate of both characters and that particular arc. One Piece: --Coby/Helmeppo : UNCLEAR. While Coby and Helmeppo are not main characters, Coby was a catalyst in the early part of the series, and will probably be important again towards the end. Also, while Coby could have gotten where he is without Helmeppo, Helmeppo would likely not be who he is now without Coby, making Coby integral to Helmeppo's story. --Usopp/Nami : NO. I love them a lot, and they're both important to the story in different ways, but their relationship is not strictly necessary. --Zoro/Luffy : UNCLEAR. Obviously, Luffy is the main character, and Zoro is also super important. The story probably could have gotten where it was going without Zoro's involvement, but there have definitely been several key points which would have been different without him. (Early one, especially, and the end of Thriller Bark.) This one might require more thought. Hanna Is Not A Boy's Name: Hanna/{Zombie} : YES. While the story may still have happened without {…} (Conrad still showing up that night), the entire story would have had a different tone, as {…} is the narrator, and certain key events would have played out differently. Overwatch: McCree/Hanzo : NO. Admittedly, they don't have a lot to do with each other in canon, no matter how much I like them. Soldier 76/Reaper : YES. Their story was vital to the formation of Overwatch as we know it. Roadhot/Junkrat : NO. Not exactly vital to the overall story, although they do seem fairly important to each other. Final Fantasy XV:   Noctis/Prompto and Gladio/Ignis : NO. I mean, I love the ships, but technically neither of these ships are really super important to the overall story. I would be willing to listen to arguments for this one though, since obviously the relationship between the four of them actually is super important. Boku no Hero Academia: Izuku/All Might : YES. Nothing would have happened in this series if it weren't for the relationship between these two. Not only would Izuku be lacking the power to succeed, he'd have been lacking the training and also possibly the inspiration. Likewise, All Might would likely have stagnated, instead of grown as a character. Back to the Future: Marty/Doc : YES. There would be literally no point to the entire series without either character or their relationship exactly as it is. One Punch Man: Saitama/Genos : YES. Although it may be debatable, I believe that Genos' involvement with Saitama is critical to the story. Is it, at very least, critical to Genos' growth. Yuri on Ice!!: Viktor/Yuuri : (canon) YES. Canon-gay main characters; kind of the point of the story. Supernatural: Dean/Castiel : YES. Though Dean and Sam's relationship is probably still more important, I would definitely argue that most of the plot from season 4 on could not have happened without Castiel's involvement with Dean. Mass Effect: Shepard/Garrus : (mostly canon) UNCLEAR. Garrus was fairly important to the story, especially early on, but even if he had never come around at all, the story would have been about the same. However, since you get to determine the story to some degree, you could say their relationship is about as important as you make it. Ryder/Jaal : (mostly canon) UNCLEAR. About the same as above. Their relationship was important, but not significantly moreso than other characters'. Pacific Rim: Newton/Hermann : YES. Without them working together, the plot would not have been resolved. (One could even argue their arguing was critical to the story.) Warm Bodies: R/Julie : (canon) YES. Like most of my other book ships, these two were written with each other in mind. Avatar/Legend of Korra: Katara/Aang : (canon) YES. Though the story could have got along without their romantic involvement, their general relationship was absolutely vital to the plot. Zuko/Aang : YES. Their relationship provided most of the conflict from the early half, and much of the character development from the later half. Korra/Asami : (canon) UNCLEAR. If they had been only acquaintances, the plot would likely have carried on mostly the same, however the ending would have been different, of course. Mako/ Wu : NO. Their relationship made a couple of plot points in the last season, but the story would have got by okay without it. The Lord of the Rings: Gimli/Legolas : NO, although I'd be willing to hear arguments to this one. I don't recall that their relationship was particularly necessary to the plot's resolution. Invader Zim: Zim/Dib : YES. Literally the entirety of the story would be pointless without their relationship. Harry Potter: Sirius/Remus : YES. Primarily in the 3rd book/movie, but the story would have gone drastically differently if not for their past friendship. It would likely have had a huge butterfly effect. Fallout 3: Fawkes/Lone Wanderer : YES. Fawkes was key in helping get the GECK, and also having LW, y'know, not die in the DLC. If Fawkes didn't massively respect the LW, the LW would just be shit out of luck. And also dead. Gob/Lone Wanderer : NO. Poor Gob's just stuck slaving away as a bartender. Hell I don't think you even have to talk to him once to advance the story. =[ Fallout 4: Nick Valentine/Sole Survivor : YES. Nick is instrumental in helping SS find their son, and if it weren't for his respect for them, SS would have a very difficult time with several legs of the journey. And don't get me started on how their backstories are a mirror of each other! Trying Human: Rose/Hue, Longus/Don, Philena/EBE1, Quazky/Gracelis, FJ12/Pigment : (canon) YES. The charm of a good webcomic, eh? =D Metal Gear Solid: Snake/Otacon : YES. Moderately important in MGS1, Otacon and Snake's relationship becomes crucial in 2 and 4. Also, “Can love bloom on the battlefield?” Yes, Otacon. Yes it can. (I'd write a manifesto about these two if I had the energy.) Big Boss/Ocelot : YES. Quite a lot of the entire series would never have happened if it weren't for Ocelot's hero-worship crush on Big Boss. It's pretty important. Toriko: Toriko/Komatsu : YES. To be fair, I haven't read/watch this series in years, but the earlier parts of the series put a lot of focus on the budding partnership between these two characters. Ugh, talk to me about the part where they climb a giant beanstalk in order to eat a heart-shaped vegetable in tandem to commemorate their partnership. Geez. It's a little hard to say if their relationship was vital to the actual plot, because I'm still not sure what the plot was, but it was definitely vital to the story. Noragami: Yato/Hiyori : (mostly canon) YES. As the main characters, the story revolves mostly around them, and if they didn't care for each other, there would be no reason for half of the events to happen. Kazuma/Bishamon : (mostly canon) UNCLEAR. At least one key backstory event only occurred because of their relationship, but the story might have happened similarly without it. Kofuku/Daikoku : (mostly canon) NO. I love them, but the story could probably exist okay without them. Ore Monogatari: Takeo/Yamato : (canon) YES, but obviously, as it's a romantic comedy. The story is literally all about them. Kill la Kill: Gamagoori/Mako : NO. Although they featured together in a few important scenes, the story could have progressed without them ever being in the same frame. Attack on Titan: Jean/Marco : NO. The entire story would have probably been just fine without them, although Jean might be a different person without Marco's influence. CLAMP: (mostly canon) YES. I'm just gonna go ahead and say that all of my ships from CLAMP series are vital to both the story and the characters' growth. This might be an exaggeration, but only slightly. Tiger&Bunny: Kotetsu/Barnaby: YES. Because, obviously, what's Tiger&Bunny without Tiger and Bunny? The story would have gone nowhere without either of them, and the focus on their growing relationship was super important. Steins;Gate: Okabe/Kurisu : (mostly canon) YES. The plot forces the relationship between Okabe and Kurisu in an interesting way, so it is sort of super relevant. Saiyuki: Sanzo/Goku : YES. Gojyo/Hakkai : UNCLEAR. To be honest, I just haven't watched the series in a while, so I'm a little cloudy on the finer points of this ship. I'd say they're important, and from what I remember they are important to each other's story, but I don't recall how vital their relationship is to the overall plot. Lovely Complex: Otani/Koizumi : (canon) YES, because it's a romantic comedy and these are the two main characters. Doctor Who: Doctor/Rose : (canon) YES. In love with two different Doctors, and (as far as I know) the only one to end up with one permanently! Their relationship was so damn important that it came back even after Rose retired as a companion! Sherlock: Sherlock/John : YES. The series wouldn't even remotely exist without their relationship. Teen Wolf: Stiles/Derek : NO. The necessity of either character to the overall plot is debatable; they certainly didn't have to interact in order for the series to continue, even if those were some of the best scenes. Hannibal: Hannibal/Will : YES. Though I never caught up with the series, it was clear even from the very start of season 1 that the relationship between these two was the drive of the whole story. Once Upon a Time: Rumpelstiltskin/Belle : (canon) UNCLEAR. Though they're both important to each other and other characters at multiple points in the story, their relationship is probably not all that important to the other characters. (To be fair, this is based mostly off of seasons 1 and 2.) Final Fantasy XIII: Hope/Lightning : NO? It's been a while since I played the game, and while I love Hope, I seem to recall that he wasn't terribly important? (Was anybody important in that game? What even was the plot??) Kingdom Hearts: Sora/Riku : YES. I mean, Sora did spend pretty much forever searching for Riku, and Riku did spend basically the whole time being a pain. Axel/Roxas : UNCLEAR. Roxas' existence and story probably could have happened without Axel. But to be honest, it's Kingdom Hearts; I could never remember all the fine details. Assassin's Creed: Leonardo/Ezio : UNCLEAR. I mean, Ezio would have died or failed several times without Leo's inventions, but Leo himself wasn't strictly necessary. Haytham/Ziio : (canon) YES. Well, Conner wouldn't exists without them, so. Jak and Daxter: Jak/Daxter: YES. There would have been literally no point to the series if it weren't for their relationship. Uncharted: Nate/Elena : (canon) UNCLEAR. A rare female love interest, Elena was there from the very beginning and throughout the whole series, kicking ass and helping the plot along. Could the series have gone on without her and Nate's intricate relationship? Probably. But who would have wanted that? Bioshock Infinite: Robert/Rosalind : (mostly canon) YES. Only because of their fantastic weird obsession with science and themselves was the cross-dimensional travel that made the plot happen even possible. Nimona: Blackheart/Goldenloin : (mostly canon) YES. Their relationship is central to the backstory, and the later parts of the story. Long Exposure: Mitchel/Jonas : (canon) YES. Again, because it is a webcomic, and they're specifically written with each other in mind. Rise of the Guardians: Jack/Pitch : UNCLEAR. While both are critical to the story, it probably could have gone on fine without their interactions. However, Jack's personal arc wouldn't have had the same emotion without Pitch's involvement. Wreck-it Ralph: Felix/Calhoun : (canon) UNCLEAR. Their relationship was a key point in the story, but the overall plot could have probably happened without it. Om Shanti Om: Om/Shanti // Om/Sandy : (mostly canon) YES. Without Om's love for Shanti, the entire second half of the plot wouldn't have worked out. Sandy's love for Om was also critical. Guardians of the Galaxy: Rocket/Groot : YES. I think it's safe to say that the whole crew would have died if it weren't for Groot, and it's unlikely that he would have been there in such a capacity without his partnership with Rocket. Mad Max: Fury Road: Max/Furiosa : (canon) YES. Story couldn't go anywhere without them, and their relationship was important at certain points. Capable/Nux : (canon) YES. Though their relationship was not vital to the overall story, it played a huge part in the resolution. Nightrunner: Seregil/Alec : (canon) YES. Canon-gay main characters, obviously the story goes nowhere without them. HERO: Thom/Goran : (canon) UNCLEAR. Though the relationship between the characters is a key element in the story, it probably could have happened pretty similarly even if the two did not develop a romantic involvement. (Would've been a different story; still, Thom's other relationships are roughly as important.) Diana Wynne Jones' books: Howl/Sophie, Vierran/Mordian, Tom/Penny, etc : (canon) YES. All main characters, written with the intention of being involved with each other, they are vital to their stories. Robin McKinley's books: Narl/Rosie, Cecily/Little John, Beauty/Beast, etc : (canon) YES (mostly). Main characters written to revolve around each other, with the exception of Cecily and Little John, whose relationship was probably not strictly necessary for the overall story. The Mediator: Jesse/Suze: (canon) YES. Same deal with my other canon book ships: they were literally made for each other. Gravity Falls: Mabel/Mermando : (mostly canon) NO. Their relationship was only relevant for an episode, and had it not existed, most of the story would have been the same. Motorcity: Mike/Chuck : UNCLEAR. It probably ought to be a “no”, but the series didn't get that far, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. XD; The Reward: Vito/Wilhelm: (??? canon?) YES. I mean, the story was 100% about their bromance. Mystery Skulls Animated: Lewis/Vivi : (canon) YES. Poor ghost man just misses his nerdy girlfriend. Futurama: Fry/Leela : (canon) UNCLEAR, since Futurama didn't really have an overarching plot for their relationship to be relevant to. But GOD did you see the last episode? I mean, they were definitely a central plot point of the story, even if they weren't strictly 'necessary' to it. Gargoyles: Goliath/Elisa : (canon) YES, hella yes. Their relationship (both platonic and romantic) was greatly important to the overall story, many times. Though the gargoyle characters could have existed without Elisa, the story would have lacked most of its emotional component. (And that’s just about that! I left off a bunch of old ships, because there’s just no way I have the time and energy to list stuff I haven’t been into in years. Also I probably forgot some, but oops?)

Ramblings: Nate Schmidt Contract; More Canucks Injuries; Jersey’s Top Line; More – October 27

  First and foremost, a hearty congratulations to Ian Gooding and Cam Robinson on their promotions within here at Dobber Hockey. While Cam’s has promotion been known for a while, Ian’s has not. Cam is the new Managing Editor for Dobber Prospects while Ian is the new Managing Editor right here at Dobber Hockey. Both are bright fantasy hockey minds with unique perspectives that are valuable resources for the readers. 

The site is in very capable hands with Cam and Ian in their new positions.

We have a lot of NHL news to get to so let’s get to it.

  The Vegas Golden Knights signed Nate Schmidt to a contract extension, tacking on six years with an AAV just under $6-million. This tweet from Cap Friendly shows some recent comparable contracts:

  Here’s the thing with Schmidt. For a long time, the analytics community had been clamouring for the Capitals to give him more minutes and he never really got them – his career-high for minutes per game in Washington was his rookie year. As such, we have one year of Schmidt playing top pair minutes (admittedly, with good results) and one year of Schmidt cracking 20 points. He’s 27 years old and is serving a 20-game suspension. It feels like a lot of money for a guy with that kind of track record at that age.

This contract will render him useless in cap leagues, by the way. If you’re in a dynasty cap league, the time to trade him will be before the All-Star break.

Scott Darling is back with the Carolina Hurricanes. When he starts and how many starts he’ll get is up in the air.

Travis Zajac returned Thursday night for the Devils.

The injury woes continue for the Canucks as both Alex Edler and Sven Baertschi have been put on IR. Both players left the game on Wednesday night and did not return. There was word that Edler may be out weeks, plural, rather than a week. Once we get more updates we’ll let you guys know.

Torey Krug took part in the game-day skate for the Bruins but was not in their lineup on Thursday night. At the least, that should indicate that he’s very close to his return to the lineup.

Kevin Fiala was demoted to the fourth line for Nashville’s game. Likely just some motivational work being done by the coach. I wouldn’t worry.

A big night for New Jersey’s top trio, albeit in a 4-3 overtime loss to Nashville. Kyle Palmieri had three assists (more on him later), Nico Hischier had a pair of goals, and Taylor Hall had a pair of helpers.

With three shots on goal, Hischier is now up to 20 shots in 7 games. Should anyone have NHL Gamecentre, go watch Hischier’s third period. At times he was downright dominant and got the better of PK Subban a couple of shifts in a row. The kid is really starting to come into his own in all facets.

Speaking of top lines, both Filip Forsberg and Viktor Arvidsson scored their respective seventh goals of their seasons so far. That’s the start fantasy owners were looking for.

Zdeno Chara had his first multi-goal game in nearly five years while Jaroslav Halak registered his second shutout of the season in Boston’s 3-0 win over Philadelphia. Halak had one shutout in 49 starts last year.

Travis Konecny led Flyers forwards in even strength ice time, by the way.

Anthony Duclair and Boone Jenner both had a pair of goals in the Columbus 7-4 win over St. Louis. The lines were a little bit of a mess again as Jenner was between Nick Foligno and Josh Anderson. Artemi Panarin had three assists to give himself his fourth multi-point effort of the season.

In today’s edition of “Who got power play time for the Kings?” we have Ilya Kovalchuk and Jeff Carter being QB’d on the PP by Sean Walker and Dion Phaneuf.

Incredible.

Jeff Skinner’s three-assist game against the Habs (a 4-3 Sabres win) gives him an even 10 points in 10 games to this point.

Going through Yahoo trades is something I like to do from time to time. While we don’t know the context of each particular league in which the trades are made, they are a reasonable gauge of what the public thinks of certain players. This knowledge can help. Maybe someone in your league doesn’t have the *exact* same opinion of a given player that someone else in the tubes of the internet does, but I’d wager that in many cases, the opinions aren’t drastically different. Stats and trades as of Thursday afternoon.

  Trade 1: Kyle Palmieri for Mathew Barzal

Yes, Kyle Palmieri is shooting over 30 percent and no, that won’t last. But he’s also landing 3.67 shots per game, even if that were to fall to 3 shots per game, and his shooting percentage the rest of the season is 10 percent, he scores 23 goals the rest of the year and finishes with 30 on the campaign. That doesn’t even begin to dig in to his exemplary PP production (5 points) and huge hit totals (15).

There was an article recently from Chris Ryan interviewing Devils coach John Hynes. Hynes stated he has absolutely no intention of breaking up their top line.

If only someone had written over, and over, and over, and over, and over that he was a player to draft in every league this year.

The only type of league where I wouldn’t trade away Barzal to get Palmieri is a straight points-only league. That said, do people realize Barzal has 7 shots in 8 games? That’s abysmal. I would wager people drafted him hoping he could crack 30 goals this year. His shot rate at five-on-five is near the bottom of the league right now. The Islanders are a mess and Barzal is somehow going to have to figure out how to pull the trigger a little more often.

  Trade 2: Anders Lee for Max Pacioretty

This is an interesting trade for me because there was a huge gap in their final ADPs – something in the realm of five or six rounds. My personal rankings for standard Yahoo leagues had them a lot closer – something in the realm of about a round and half (player 55 vs player 73). In a lot of ways, at least fantasy-wise, they are similar players. Both are known for goals rather than assists, both had questions coming into this year (new team off a down year vs. no John Tavares), and both can put up stout hit totals.

It’s a fun trade. I think if we’re talking standard leagues, we’re shuffling deck chairs for the most part. I’ll throw it to the readers: who wins this trade the rest of the season in standard Yahoo leagues?

  Trade 3: Ilya Kovalchuk for Mike Hoffman

Los Angeles has been a massive disappointment this year and Ilya Kovalchuk with them. It’s weird because Kovalchuk is on pace for a 46-point season (as of Thursday afternoon). It’s not that bad for a 35-year old in today’s NHL. Consider that no player aged 35 or older cracked 60 points last year and it gives you a good barometer of what to expect for Kovalchuk. My preseason prediction had him at 58 points, so, he’s got some work to do.

On the flipside, Mike Hoffman has four goals, six points, 3 shots per game, and three PPPs so far this year. That’s a good start. He’s also been relegated to the fourth line at times, pushed off the top PP unit at times, and has a role that generally can’t be defined. Uncertainty isn’t a good thing in fantasy sports, at least not when you’re trying to value your asset. Hoffman has a lot of uncertainty.

It’s easy to see either side of this trade:

Kovalchuk – surely Los Angeles will improve this year and even at an advanced NHL age, Kovalchuk will reap the rewards.

Hoffman – he’s producing just fine for fantasy leagues at the moment but role uncertainty makes an owner nervous. However, if his role can ever be defined in the top-half of the lineup, there is more upside to be had.

Injury Report: Wild Card Round

Season-long fantasy football may be finished, but both playoff fantasy leagues and Wild Card Round DFS are great ways to keep the fun going. As you might expect, Rotoworld has everything you need to cash in on the action. Rich Hribar lays out the best plays of the week in his Wild Card Rankings, Jeff Brubach has the playoff leagues covered with his Complete Playoff Ranks, and Evan Silva breaks down every matchup in his award-winning Matchups Column.  As for me, I am here to shed light on the most important injury situations facing fantasy owners heading into the weekend. The sister resource to this column is the Rotoworld News Page, which will have every inactive and all the late-breaking news up to kickoff and beyond. I also occasionally tweet about football @RMSummerlin.   Saturday Raiders @ Texans *This game was going to be tough enough with Connor Cook forced to start, but now the Raiders will be without LT Donald Penn (knee) as well. It is a tough break for Penn, who has not missed a game in his career and has not been to the playoffs since his rookie season. Menelik Watson will get the start at left tackle. S Nate Allen (concussion) is also out. Amari Cooper (shoulder) and Michael Crabtree (ankle) continue to be listed as questionable, but there is no doubt about their availability. Neither is a cash option with Cook at quarterback, but Cooper is an interesting DFS tournament play. Cook targeted Cooper on six of his 21 attempts last week as well as a failed two-point try. Matt McGloin (left shoulder), Andre Holmes (shoulder), S Karl Joseph (toe), LG Kelechi Osemele (ankle), and LB Malcolm Smith (hamstring) are also questionable. McGloin is expected to be available as Cook’s backup. *Tom Savage (concussion) and OLB John Simon (chest) are the only two Texans listed on the final injury report. Both are out. With Savage on the sidelines, Brock Osweiler will get the start, but he is a DFS tournament option at best. Lamar Miller, who is set to return after missing the final two weeks of the regular season, is a much better play against a defense which gave up the 10th-most fantasy points to running backs in the regular season. Miller rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown against Oakland in Week 11. He is the second-best option at running back behind Le’Veon Bell. On the defensive side, Houston will get back CB Johnathan Joseph, who sat out the season finale with rib and shoulder injuries. Texans DST is a solid even if chalky play. Lions @ Seahawks *Detroit listed WLB DeAndre Levy (knee), RT Riley Reiff (hip), and WR Andre Roberts (shoulder) as questionable. C Travis Swanson (concussion) was originally listed as questionable, but he was downgraded to out Friday night, suggesting he did not pass his final test with an independent neurologist. Both Levy and Roberts are fully expected to play, but Reiff, who reportedly “looked really limited” early in the week before increasing his activity on Thursday, seems truly questionable. The Lions will have a much better shot at an upset and Zach Zenner will have a much better shot at a good fantasy day if Reiff is on the field. *Russell Wilson has been wearing a knee brace since suffering a left MCL sprain in Week 3, but he may ditch it for this game. Wilson has been much more dangerous as a runner in recent weeks, but he is still not back to normal. Perhaps shedding the brace will help get him closer. Likely to be much lower owned than Aaron Rodgers or Ben Roethlisberger and going up against a shreddable defense at home, Wilson is a quality DFS option. C.J. Prosise (shoulder) was not able to return to practice this week and will miss his seventh game in a row. Alex Collins will continue to backup Thomas Rawls. DT Tony McDaniel (concussion) is also out.

Sunday Dolphins @ Steelers *Ryan Tannehill (knee) returned to a limited practice Friday, but he was never going to play this week. Despite the practice, Tannehill said he is “uncertain” if he will be ready for the Divisional Round if the Dolphins pull an upset in the Wild Card game. Matt Moore will continue to start at quarterback. Miami will also be without CB Byron Maxwell (ankle), who is listed as doubtful but will not play after missing the entire week of practice. Tony Lippett (thigh, questionable) and second-round rookie Xavien Howard have been playing better than expected, but Antonio Brown should get some revenge after being held to four catches for 39 yards in the first meeting between these two teams. WLB Jelani Jenkins (knee), S Bacarri Rambo (chest), and C Kraig Urbik (knee) are also questionable. *Ladarius Green (concussion) is officially questionable, but he looks unlikely to play after missing Friday’s practice. Coach Mike Tomlin said the team did not get the results they wanted from Green’s tests following Thursday’s practice, suggesting he failed his exam with the independent neurologist. With Green likely out, Eli Rogers figures to see a few more targets across the middle of the field, which is where Miami has been vulnerable this season. Sammie Coates could also see some more work in his return from a hamstring injury, but he is still dealing with a finger issue which could require surgery after the season. He is just a shot in the dark in DFS tournaments. Jesse James is a touchdown-or-bust option even in the best of times. On the defensive side, OLB Anthony Chickillo (ankle) and DE Ricardo Mathews (ankle) have been ruled out while S Robert Golden (ankle) and ILB Vince Williams (shoulder) are questionable. DE Stephon Tuitt (knee), who missed the final two games of the regular season, was not listed on the final injury report. His return is a big boost to the defense.   Giants @ Packers *Jason Pierre-Paul (core muscle) remains out and DE Owa Odighizuwa (hamstring, doubtful) will join him on the sidelines, but CB Janoris Jenkins (back) was left off the final injury report and should be ready to play a full complement of snaps after being limited in the season finale. Even with Pierre-Paul out, the Giants are a much better defense and much healthier in the secondary than the last time they faced the Packers. Unfortunately for them, Aaron Rodgers is also playing at a different level. *Randall Cobb (ankle) is officially questionable, but he looks on track to play after a limited week of practice. Even so, Cobb cannot be trusted to last the entire game, and Geronimo Allison has been playing well enough to demand snaps even with Cobb available. In a bad matchup, Cobb is an easy fade. RT Bryan Bulaga (abdomen), OLB Jayrone Elliott (hand), OLB Nick Perry (hand), CB Damarious Randall (knee), ILB Joe Thomas (back), and C J.C. Tretter (knee) are also questionable. Randall looks likely to play after getting in full practices Thursday and Friday, which is good news with Quinten Rollins (neck, concussion) ruled out. James Starks (concussion) remains out as well, leaving Ty Montgomery as the lead back against a team the Packers were able to run against Week 5. Montgomery is a big risk after it looked like he was benched last week for going the wrong way on a screen pass, but he has big upside in a short slate. He is a great DFS tournament option.

Future Group Stream Announcement

Hey everyone! It’s taken a bit to hash everything out, but it looks like we’ll be hosting another group stream with our friends Narhar and Viren!

The Mario Party stream was a lot of fun and people seemed to enjoy it quite a bit so we’re bringing them back for our next group stream game:

While there is no official release date other than “2019”, our friends have signed on and we’re eager to get the hype train rolling! For those who don’t know:

FFCC is a co-op game where a caravan of travelers try to get by in a world polluted by a strange miasma. The poison is all around them but they have ways to repel it. It’s gonna take a lot of teamwork to get through so expect a lot of bickering between us as we fight our way to victory.

Oh, and I forgot to mention this will be a PLAY UNTIL ITS FINISHED STREAM! Meaning we won’t stop streaming until the credits are rolling!!!
