You’d still had feelings for your ex although looking back now, it must have been nostalgia, and the fact that along with him, you had left girlhood behind for good. Going off to college meant becoming an adult and starting this new chapter was scary. When you met Sonny, all you needed was a friend. And he had been an amazing friend to you all these years, without ever asking for more.

‘What’s that?’ your girlfriend asks, pointing at your chin and you avert your gaze from Sonny.

But you can feel something shift. It is the way he looks at you as the sun goes down on that first day of your 4th of July weekend. Between laughs and giggles your eyes meet and he gets all quiet and serious, and there’s something in the air you can’t quite grasp. Or maybe it’s the way that friend of a friend asks you about him. If he’s single, and her smile in his direction when you tell her he’s not seeing anyone as far as you know. And then as you get tipsy in order to forget about it all, you realize that he’s keeping his distance for some reason, when he would normally be right by your side, having shots with you, annoying you with his lame jokes.

Your phone vibrates and it’s a text from Sonny. A song by one of your favorite artists that you weren’t even aware he knew of. You look up to scan the crowd for him and find him sitting by the pool by himself, a bottle of beer in his hand.

• He was born in 1988, making him two years younger than Robert (and Andy) and six years older than Victoria

Happy Storyteller Saturday! I saw some comments recently that Memento Vivre was played as a game, but now it is unrecognisable, could you explain the game-to-story writing process? :)

Happy STS, and thanks for the ask!

So some context for this - I write RPG murder mysteries for my friends:

In that folder, it contains an in-game introduction and rules of the game, a list of friends who were playing, a character introduction for each character (for character claims), and character information & secrets for each character.

The problem with character introductions is for characters like Dawn and Miriam to be compelling, you kind of have to reveal their secrets right away, so they had extra information before the game even began. Other problems that occurred were that the player of Jordan Walsh didn’t link Westminster to Aidan the way I’d intended (a culture clash, I assume), one of our players was new to playing and was pretty quiet, and two people had to leave part way into the game.

(And that the characters in my head were different to the characters that got played, but hey)

The first draft was pretty close to the way the game was played - specific insults like “fuckhead” and “shut your fuck” made their way into the narrative; john dalton essentially has a very long monologue; medical inaccuracies aplenty; just straight up listing occupations; a remarkable lack of character from three characters. There were differences, of course, considering I was writing a story, and some parts of what I wrote then I liked a lot - Aidan’s backstory moment changed very little between the first and third, as did Dante and Cassandra’s kiss.

But it got ironed out: Nate has a whole moment featuring a whole breakdown; John Dalton doesn’t talk as much as his secrets are forced out of him; Dawn gets a brilliant character, new and improved by me, and the throw away line “you cheated on me” now has life; most of the superfluous expletives were cut down so it now actually has an impact; there’s more, of course, but I could go on all day.

Only a few things are the same as the game, now, and one of those is Isabella’s death. To those who know, they know, and those who don’t - well, you’ll find out :3

I finally hit 1k followers again on my new blog! I'm sorry that it has taken me so long to release my 1k followers celebration event, I've just been really unmotivated recently. Thank you all so, so much for getting me to 1k followers. I would not have got this far if it was not for all of you.
