Set long after the 1992 anime series in the Crystal Tokyo era, the revived Nephrite (age 25) has joined in a polyamorous relationship with Osaka Naru (age 20) and her other boyfriend Umino Gurio (age 20). Probably Naru/Nephrite from Sailor Moon. Even though at age six I really only had access to one or two episodes with them because of what tapes my cousin had made, the masquerade ball episode really left an impact on me and made little Psi decide, “I am going to look further into these two someday.” (And now that I’m watching the whole show with my best pal, we’ve gotten to see their whole arc and I ADORE them.)

i don't like to be one of those annoying manga supremacists but sailor moon is one franchise i have to beg people to read the manga to understand takeuchi's original intentions. to this day people spread misinformation about the franchise because of things the 90s anime did. no, usagi and mamoru are not a pedophilic couple, they were only 2 years apart in the manga and their relationship is MUCH healthier. no, sailor moon doesn't have multiple grooming plotlines, the naru and nephrite shit was exclusively in the 90s anime, and the amazon trio are much less creepy in the manga.

i won't deny the 90s anime played a part in making sailor moon as iconic as it is today but it being perceived as the default adaptation of the franchise did so much damage to the way people perceive certain characters and story elements. i won't deny the manga had problematic stuff but as a huge sailor moon fan it pains me to see people denounce the entire franchise as problematic for something only one adaptation did.

Nephrite Headcanon.

His blood isn’t actually green.

The thorns of one of the youma he was fighting (while he was rescuing Naru) grazed his arm and released a neurotoxin into his bloodstream, causing his blood to turn green.

Even if it wasn’t for the stabbings that occurred later, Nephrite’s blood was fatally infected and he would’ve died a couple of hours later, anyway.

Late submission for Day 6 of @smvillainsweek 2023, Theme: Weapon / Shield. Based on a scene from chapter 6 of "A Gift by Starlight" by Mina Martin, a story tagged "Naru the Vampire Slayer" 🩸✨ The story absolutely lives up to that premise and is cool as hell. This gritty hospital fight scene captured my imagination and I wanted to see it from the moment I read it. If you aren't familiar with Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I'm not very), the story still mostly makes sense and fills you in on what you need to know- I absolutely recommend it to any Neph/Naru fans!! One of the very best.

Nephrite's Death

From the 90s anime. This is the one of the saddest scenes in the first season minus the final battle against Queen Beryl.

This location is the closest I could find to where Nephrite died. Notice how this area also has a cliff. Wish I would have taken some more pictures of this area. Future trip goals.

HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13th NEPHRITE DIES TODAY!!

This isn’t a hate post btw I love this episode to BITS and am glad I can finally liveblog about it lol

It’s so masterfully done. From Naru’s confusion and desperation of being in love with someone everyone is saying is a bad person to trying to help him with nothing but her honesty and effort

If I HAD watched sailormoon utterly devoid of spoilers, I would have absolutely been convinced that Naru could’ve possibly been the moon princess, if only in the red herring sense:

Naru is genuinely so selfless and pure that the Dark Crystal reacts to the sincerity of her love. She has this tragic love w one of the villains, and even when everyone doesn’t THINK she should be able to be of any use to him, her first impulse is always to help Nephrite despite the odds, and she usually pulls it off. She even almost got the thorns out before everything went to shit (and in shows like WITCH, I feel like she inspired the side character friend having a power moment, because you almost expect Naru to succeed for a minute before Nephrite has to sacrifice himself)

Nephrite is my favorite. It’s very obvious that to him, he’s still very much unattached. But Zoicite knows he’s being honest even if it’s not to himself. It’s suuuuuch a classic and staple romance trope 😩😩 if you’re not introduced to it here, idk what to tell you, I’ve never watched another anime that does it as simply yet poignantly as sailor moon did 🌙
