Comm - Starter Set (Pokemon TF)

This week's TFTuesday comms come as another set, this time being various YCHs by @Kadvok! Spanning a number of different projects, they've bit by bit been putting out a series of YCH offers based on each region's starter Pokemon. Fan of the series I am (and especially attached to my starters in most games), I naturally had to jump on the chance. Again, and again, and again... The result was one pick from each generation, as much as I may at times have wanted to double down (apologies, Cyndaquil and Mudkip). But what we got are all still delightful, and include my male sona becoming a Squirtle and Turtwig (turtle power?) and my femsona turning into Chikorita and Torchic!

squishmallow pikachu - citrus. idk it's 11 pm and I wanted to come up with something

pompompurin squishmallow - pompompurin. he already has a name

pancham 1 - pancake. felt like a cute name

pancham 2 - pancho. also was a cute name kinda

big pikachu - lemon. I already decided on this name a while ago when I was still active on twitter

normal size pikachu - thunder. was planning on using this name for the big pikachu but it didn't really fit him since he is constantly sleeping

chimchar - fire. there was a small manga series for pmd eot/eod/eos where the protagonist is a chimchar called fire so I just used that name

turtwig - nae (pronounced nai). taken from turtwig's japanese name (naetle)

sobble - mesochan. taken from sobble's japanese name (messon)

piplup - piplup. you can't change perfection

You know what games could really use some updated remakes? Diamond and Pearl. And it better still have Contests, the Poketch, Poffin making.... the works, man! (Although considering it’ll likely be for the Switch, they might have to change two of those a bit...)

Turtwig’s our Grass-type starter for this generation, and... well, it’s just very cute! Its shell is actually made out of hardened soil, and on a healthy Turtwig it’ll feel slightly moist! Additionally, if it’s not getting proper hydration the leaves on its head will wilt. Take good care of your little tortoise buddy!

again--this is NOT a panic, "tumblr's going down!!" situation; but it is a kind of time where... it's good to prepare alternative ways of being in touch with people while there is a warning that all is not well, instead of waiting until the moment it is a last-minute scramble to find somewhere else to be.

and i guess the background here may not be as well-broadcasted as i thought, so here's the nucleus of it: there was an internal communication among Automattic (tumblr's parent company) that since tumblr is still failing to meet money-making goals despite the large amount of money and work that's gone into it, they're skeletonizing the workforce and putting the majority of staff onto other automattic products.

this isn't something that indicates an immediate "get out before the whole thing comes down" situation, but one where you can expect the website to go on a gradual decline of support until eventually something happens to make the site no longer work and it doesn't get fixed.

I don't have the knowledge to know how long that will take. But, while we're still in the "tumblr's servers are still on and the site mostly fulfills its core functions with no end of life date firmly predicted" stage, I want to be able to find ways of keeping in touch with the people that make tumblr such an enjoyable experience for me. Hence, the mass-tag and offer of other ways to get or keep in touch.

i wish there was some kind of @ mutuals thing to tag all my mutuals at once. would have been a cool thing to see on the social blogging website. ah, well, missed opportunities.

anyway, with the whole "we're basically giving up on this website and gutting the moderation/support team" thingy going around i'm going to be pursuing a dual strategy of "drive it until the wheels fall off" and "start looking for a new car in the meantime" and in that vein I sent a handful of mutuals a post about a potential alternative before i realized that i'm not sure that alternative is currently accepting new users. hmm.

anyway, i'm gonna mention most if not all my mutuals here on a reblog and if we're mutuals and you'd like to prepare for tunglr going down (eventually, someday, in an indeterminate but visible future), send me a message or an off-anon ask or whatever and I'll give you my discord handle and maybe if you're interested also some information about an alternative that i know you can join right now, although the join rate is throttled so it wouldn't be everyone all at once

Sinnoh Pokémon → Turtwig, the Tiny Leaf Pokémon ɴᴀᴛɪᴏɴᴀʟ ᴅᴇx #387

Turtwig (Japanese: ナエトル Naetle) is a small, light green, quadruped Grass-type Pokémon resembling a turtle or tortoise. Its eyes, feet, and lower jaw are yellow. Its body is covered by a brown shell that is comprised of earth. The shell has a thick black stripe and a black rim, and hardens when the Turtwig drinks water. On a very healthy Turtwig, the shell should feel moist. A small seedling grows on a brown patch on a Turtwig’s head. This seedling will wilt if it becomes thirsty. As a plant-based Pokémon, Turtwig usually nourishes itself through photosynthesis.

I barely remembered Giratina movie. Heh. Reverse World kinda reminds me of Ultra Beast worlds, and Giratina’s ability to open up those holes? Somehow really reminds me of Ultra Holes. I wouldn’t be surprised if Game Freak got the idea for Ultra Beasts and Wormholes from Reverse World, as in wanting to expand the idea further. :D

By the way. When does Naetle/Turtwig evolve? I came to realise I haven’t seen its evolution episode and it’s still Naetle/Turtwig in Giratina movie. :o I don’t remember if it’s Hayashigame/Grotle already in Arceus movie, I’ll rewatch that movie later. But like, it certainly took a while for Satoshi’s starter mon to evolve in Sinnoh :o
