All Blacks Sevens players have won the World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year on five occasions; Afeleke Pelenise (2007), DJ Forbes (2008), Tomasi Cama (2012) and Tim Mikkelson (2013). DJ Forbes holds the record for most appearances having appeared in 89 tournaments before retiring at the end of 2017.

New Zealand is such a weird place. Like... I was hungry at around 5 in the morning and don't have any food, so I pop out to the local dairy in pjs and without shoes, and there's about 3 other people there doing exactly the same thing. I went out to the south island for 3 weeks to go skiing, and forget to close my garage door. NOTHING HAPPENS. It just stays open. No theft or anything. The ocean is 15 fucking minutes away. I can't die from murdery animals or plants here either.

After a brief overnight in Wellington we headed onwards to Stratford on the edge of Mt Taranaki in the SW corner of North Island. To me this is the perfect volcano but on route we had to go to Palmerston North to the NZ Rugby Museum. We had the place to ourselves and a very knowledgeable volunteer Marj who showed us lots of stuff not on display. It was a fascinating trip though it was disappointing that there were no All Blacks shirts on sale.

The views approaching Taranaki were not favourable with thick cloud obscuring the Mountain. Our accommodation was beautiful, 6km towards the mountain from the town of Stratford and in the middle of nowhere and was a spa (though I didn't know that until we got there). We ate well at the local pub and just hope for better and clearer views tomorrow.

round fifteen would be sua’s last game as fullback since ryan papenhuyzen got the all clear from the doctors and will be back next round. although, he was upset about going back to sitting on the bench, sua quickly remembered that his girlfriend had a few days off from work and perked up at the thought of her being in the stands to cheer him on.

y/n quickly picked up the phone and placed it against her laptop.

“hey, babe” sua rolled onto his stomach as y/n typed away, she was quickly getting everything done before they flew over to new zealand for his game

“hi, baby. how was training?” his immediate response was to groan before burying his head into the pillow. y/n has heard all the stories about how intense his coach can be — don’t get him wrong, sua is grateful for being put in the fullback position, but craig bellamy is harsh.

“don’t remind me, how’s work?”

“almost finished, have you showered?” sua raised his eyebrow with a teasing smile that made y/n roll her eyes

“i’m going to hang up”

sua just laughed

“we’re leaving wednesday morning, right?” y/n asked, quickly glancing towards her phone to see sua hum

“yeah, straight to training when we land though” the couple frowned simultaneously at not having time to spend together since he would be busy training and doing team stuff — sua said he could lie and say he wasn’t feeling well, but y/n worried that his coach might find out and bench him for the game

“have you packed?” sua froze at her question and y/n could sigh

“give me a few minutes and i’ll be over”he cheered loudly before getting yelled at by his roommate to be quiet

“WELL, SORRY FOR BE HAPPY ABOUT MY AMAZING AND LOVING GIRLFRIEND COMING OVER, NOT LIKE YOU CAN RELATE” sua yelled back and quickly got up to lock his door upon hearing footsteps make their way towards his room

it was late, cold, and rainy: a perfect saturday night for some footy in auckland.

since sua was training from the early morning to the late night, they could only spend a little time together. y/n wasn’t bothered by it since she loved cuddling with him and watching tv, but sua wished they could explore together instead of having to leave her for his teammates.

y/n yawned as she entered the change room since sua had to leave earlier and tried to convince her to accompany him, but she refused in order to get more sleep. y/n looked around before quickly spotting her boyfriend who was talking with eliesa katoa. the older male saw her approaching which made sua turn around since eliesa was no longer looking at him and smiled once he saw that it was his girlfriend.

“hey” he kissed her instantly which caused teasing words to leave the mouths of his teammates, but sua just ignored them and focused on his girlfriend who wore a storm shirt over her hoodie

“you’re wearing mine, right?” y/n turned silently for him to see the ‘fa’alogo’ printed on the back

“good, gotta use to it since it’ll be yours soon” he leaned into kiss her again, but was stopped by his captain — harry grant

“going a bit quick, aye?”

sua shrugged before answering, “when we make it to the final rounds, imma propose”

sua has been clear about his goals and proposing to y/n after a big game ( that they would hopefully win ) has always been one of them. harry’s eyes widened and everyone turned towards sua in surprise.

“don’t say that” she whacked him making sua gasp

“babe, i gotta play soon”

“i didn’t even hit you hard!”

“yeah, it did! look! you even left a mark!”

“there’s nothing there!”

the couple bickered which made the other players chuckle, some reminiscing about their own relationships while others sighed in hopes of being in a playful relationship like there’s.

throughout the sea of green, blue, and white was y/n in her purple poncho. the warrior fans were very admirable and y/n couldn’t help but find herself lost in the crowd and cheered for them too before sitting back down in shame. the other family members that had came in support laughed as she pulled down her hood.

sua wasn’t doing too bad, but he hadn’t scored yet and upon seeing his face as he went back onto the field filled her with worry about what craig bellamy could’ve said since going into halftime and being only six points up wasn’t exactly ideal for them. however, with marcelo montoya being sin-binned not far into the second half definitely seemed to boost their confidence.

y/n stood up from her seat and cheered loudly at seeing sua score. she bounced up and down, but stopped once she saw him slowly walk back while clutching his side.

“must’ve landed wrong” someone said and y/n hoped he didn’t get too hurt

the game progressed with dallin watene-zelezniak also getting sin-binned and joined marcelo montoya since he still had at least three minutes left before re-joining the field. xaiver scored not longer after dallin went off which put the storm up further, but when they came back on, it didn’t take marcelo long to score and y/n worried about the warriors coming back within the remaining few minutes. she’s aware that it can happen and silently prayed for a miracle to stop them.

she didn’t think the miracle would be her boyfriend.

“GO SUA!” y/n yelled out with her hands cupped around the side of her mouth as she watched him dodge the other players

thankfully, he scored like a normal person and didn’t come with a potential injury. she sighed in relief before clapping excitedly.

as sua walked back to join his teammates, he looked up at the camera and showed one of the names that he had written on his wrist tape — “y/n” it read with a heart which he kissed before pointing over at the stands. y/n smiled as the camera focused on her before quickly turning around to show that the shirt she’s wearing had his last name printed on it.

the warriors went for a short kick, but it didn’t end well for them and with the siren blaring in the back they knew it was over and that the storm won. y/n clapped for both teams before slowly making her way down to the change room

footsteps and chatter echoed through the hallway and the players were met with their families who were also waiting to congratulate them.

“good game, baby” sua leaned down to kiss her lightly before dropping into the chair next to her with a bottle of water in his hand

“your side okay?” she giggled lightly at the question and sua looked at her in disbelief

“babe! i was really hurt!”

“you shouldn’t have done that then”

“i practiced!”

“obviously not enough” he gasped in offensive and y/n just shook her head

it went silent between them, but it was far from being uncomfortable. y/n knew sua would be feeling tired yet somehow still energetic and exhilarated. she leaned her hooded head into his shoulder and it didn’t take long to feel the weight of his head on top of hers.

“thank for coming” he whispered

“anytime” she whispered back
