just out of curiosity i went and sorted my fics into four canon-compliant-ness buckets:

4 are full non-canonverse AUs

"canon-compliant" means it doesn't "disrupt" canon and is basically a missing scene type of thing; post-canon is what it says on the tin, for given value of what would have been "post" the canon at the time; canon-divergent means a full deviation starting at some canon point in time; and non-canonverse AU is also what it says on the tin. it's very funny to see that the non-canonverse stuff was all written within, like, a year or so? and one of these is kind of like... alternate canonverse... so clearly i realized VERY quickly what i actually like to write lmao

I finally made my wolves :] their names are Fern and Thorn (both she/her). I'm still figuring out how this game works, it's so much new things. The packs are confusing to me and I can't find much lore to read to understand it. I joined Murkwood but may move to Darkspine or something. Idk, none of them particularly spoke to me.

Here's what I've considered so far: Fern has fended for herself her whole life by wandering between territories; she is cautious, self-sufficient, and not keen on making friends. With her dark coat she easily blends into the undergrowth; however, she was still somehow discovered by Thorn. Thorn has had difficulty finding a home to stay in, and is determined to prove her worthiness to Fern. If they work together, they could defend their own territory!

How broken would a Servant with the ability to create counter-fighting styles on the fly in response to just about any attack be? I'd argue not that broken, honestly. I think most Servants could do something like that anyway, and more importantly most servants have OHKO skills that nullify said ability, owing to how they bypass the endurance fights needed for that skill to work.

Not very. Gilgamesh already has a counter weapon / item for every single heroic spirit in existence and it's not stopped him from losing sparring battles to straight up dying in multiple Fate entries.

When it comes to defeating a heroic spirit, duels like Achilles vs Chiron in Fate/Apocrypha where one guy simply outperforms the other in a fair and honest match is a lot less common than a servant simply pulling out a bullshit noble phantasm or dirty trick and ending the fight.

Not doing the latter is why Gilgamesh ended up losing in UBW, he fought Shirou head on instead of pulling out any of his 1 million NPs and destroying Unlimited Blade Works and it turns out he's not unbeatable when in a swordfight (In the VN they actually mention this weakness right before their fight. Shirou sees Gilgamesh moving away from Saber, realizing Gilgamesh is well-aware he wouldn't stand a chance against her in melee, betraying his weakness in close combat)

Meanwhile in the Fate route when Gil actually tries and spams Ea against Saber to overpower her, Saber pulls out Avalon to nullify his attack and cut him down with Excalibur during the opening. This is the likely end for a servant whose thing is reacting to the opponent; many servants can create an uncounterable gotcha moment that just wins a fight without there being anything you can do without your own pocket bullshit.
