to contextualise for any other poor soul that gets diagnosed with cgd/swyer and resorts to tumblr for resources like i did bc the only other things are a vice article, a novascience vid, NORD and sagepub (and also bc i am sad and need to vent):
yesterday i went to the doctor bc i was bleeding heavily for like a month. which i was like annoyed but not too concerned bc i figured it was the lack of progesterone. also the ultrasound guy said my uterus was the size of an adult female’s which is good, right?
my endocrinologist essentially told me it might be due to not absorbing the oestrogen and that she was going to put me on an oestrogen pill to see if i could develop a bit more (i have no boobs and my whole left side is like three months behind the other in terms of body shape development etc)
anyways turns out she misread my lining size and actually it’s pretty thick so she needs to put me on combined so i don’t wind up with cancer. which is fine, but that also means that like my development stage is pretty much at an end
and it’s not even about boob size or anything but like? one of them just isn’t there? and the other hasn’t finished developing yet either? and my fat deposits on my left side haven’t redistributed the same as my right so my waist is higher and i have a singular ‘love handle’ or wtv on one side?? i’m also having kind of coarse hair growth on my chin etc and i’m kind of stressed i’m growing a beard ngl??
and so she told me it was just my karyotype (46XY) and i was always going to be a little different (eg tall, big feet, etc). which is fine. except it also really hurt.
because turns out my mother had realised this the whole time because the doctor had told us in her own way. and no one had thought that i, being autistic, may not have understood that? and normally my mother is pretty good at that so it’s not really her fault tbf.
but i just wish i had known because then i probably wouldn’t be so upset because i could have adjusted my expectations like i always do so that i don’t have to be disappointed? because honestly from the way my doctor said it, i hadn’t thought to question whether i would turn out normal
and i feel stupid for admitting this but like i guess i’ve had this idea of like what i will be when i’m older? and i think part of this was because i used to have no friends and binge eat and be generally miserable but like in my mind, older me had lots of friends (which i now do), was skinny (i definitely look like i am, even if i am not 100% happy with my weight), etc
and i’ve been trying to get my head around the fact that i can’t have children genetically related to me for like the past two years which was hard enough tbh. but i had always kind of assumed that i would look a certain way and i guess i just feel kind of misled? and stupid as well because apparently i’m the only one who didn’t realise? and idk people have been telling me how resilient i am for dealing with all this (i was diagnosed at 15) but honestly i don’t feel super resilient rn lol. idk.
honestly no one will ever read this but whatever in case someone five years from now decides to scroll the swyer tag it might be worth posting it?? idk honestly i’m just kind of sad and a bit stressed and need to vent somewhere
does anyone else go through phases where they notice their adhd more and kind of forget that they also are autistic (or vice versa)??
because lowkey my adhd has been such a bitch for the last 2 years that the asd has been more low profile but yesterday I got a dose of crushing autistic disappointment and it hit me like a kick to the gut

On an adorable 2012 episode of the PBS series NOVAScience, popular astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson challenged Chaser, the amazing border collie who understands over 1,000 words to a memory game. Tyson took several items from Chaser’s enormous pile of toys without the dog’s knowledge and then asked her to retrieve each item as he named them. Chaser scored 100% on that test. Tyson then decided…

Immune System Dominant Role in Tissue Homeostasis, Neo-Oogenesis, Regenerative Medicine, and Cancer Growth and Treatment
Antonin Bukovsky
The dominant role of the immune system in managing homeostasis of distinct normal tissues and in stimulating cancer growth in regenerative medicine for gonadal infertility and aging diseases, effective immunotherapy without adverse events of inoperable epithelial ovarian cancers (EOCs), and long-lasting cancer immune prophylaxis are reported. Beside their well–known role in immunity, the blood mononuclear cells belong to the complex tissue control system, where they serve the homeostatic function by stimulating the proliferation of tissue stem cells followed by cellular differentiation, which is stopped after attaining the tissue-specific functional stage. Transfused blood from young donors could temporarily restore fertility in infertile individuals and alleviate aging diseases.
This can be enhanced by the honey bee propolis that activates the thymus. An additional promising aspect for neuronal, vascular, and heart disorders is combination of sex steroids stimulating proliferation and differentiation of endogenous stem cells. Growth of cancers exhibiting expression of allogeneic antigens, is in vivo enabled by fusion of cancer cells with the host cells. This mechanism is physiologically reserved for the mammalian ability to support implantation of allogeneic embryo and fetal growth. Treatment of EOCs conventionally consists of cytoreductive surgery and platinum-based chemotherapy, but 80% of patients experience relapses with a median progression-free survival of 12 to18 months. So, the prevention of relapses, particularly in EOCs, remains problematic. Beside partial improvement of cancer treatment by immune checkpoint inhibitors that, however, cause adverse events ranging from mild to lethal, the EOCs exhibit objective reply in about 10% only.

Metallurgy of Rare Metals
A.N. Zelikman, O.E. Krein, G.V. Samsonov (Editors)
Rare metals play an important role in the development of major branches of industry, such as vacuum equipment, semiconductor electronics, nuclear power and rocket production, as well as in the production of special steels and hard, refractory and corrosion-resistant alloys. Rapid development and improvement in the production of rare metals took place in the ten years which have elapsed since the publication of the first edition of this book. These ten years have witnessed the beginning of large-scale production of titanium, zirconium, and germanium, and a significant increase in the production volume; new, improved methods for the separation and purification of metals and compounds (ion-exchange, extraction, crystallization methods) as well as arc and electron-beam melting processes for metals were developed. This made it necessary to rewrite most of this book. In view of the growing importance of the lanthanides and rhenium, chapters on these metals were also included. At the same time, we decided to dispense with the chapters on lead and antimony, since these are not usually listed as rare metals. In describing the metallurgy of each metal, much attention was paid to its physicochemical nature and to the practical operations involved in the main technological processes for the production of its chemical compounds and of the pure metal. This book is a textbook for students specializing in the metallurgy of the rare metals. It is assumed that the student is familiar with the physicochemical fundamentals .of metallurgy, ore dressing, metallurgical furnaces, and processes and apparatus used in extractive metallurgy. The description of standard equipment (leaching apparatus, thickeners, filters, comminution installations, etc.) has accordingly been omitted. The references are grouped together at the end of the book.

The Vasculitides. Volume 1: General Considerations and Systemic Vasculitis (Second Edition)
David Steven Younger, MD (Editor)
Systemic and nervous system vasculitides are a heterogeneous group of related disorders, each characterized by vascular inflammation such that they have the potential to cause serious morbidity and mortality if unrecognized and therefore untreated. Systemic vasculitis affect all populations and every nationality and walk-of-life, from childhood to older age. The first edition of The Vasculitides, published in 2014, met the urgent need for a clear, concise, and reliable textbook regarding the epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical presentation, laboratory evaluation and management of these disorders, assembling participants of the 16th International Vasculitis and ANCA Workshop in Paris, France. Five years later, two subsequent meetings have taken place in London and Tokyo. Participants of the 19th International Vasculitis & ANCA Workshop will gather in April 2019 at the University of Pennsylvania for an exceptional venue to share translational scientific discoveries, data from clinical trials, and advances in the clinical assessment, pathophysiology, genetic biomarkers, standard-of-care, and novel therapies of vasculitis. The Workshop participants regathered to update the The Vasculitides, producing an even more cutting-edge two-volume set of books. This is the first book in the set, covering general considerations and systemic vasculitis. (Imprint: Nova Medicine and Health)

Siberia: Ecology, Diversity and Environmental Impact
Tabitha Robbins (Editor)
This book discusses the ecology, diversity and environmental impact of Siberia. Chapter One discusses cultural interaction and mutual influence of the civilizations of the Ancient World and the Middle Ages: China, Japan, Korea, Iran, Central Asian nomadic empires, Turkic Khanate, Byzantium, Russian kingdoms, the Ottoman Empire and the Arab Caliphate to Siberia and the Urals. Chapter Two presents issues regarding the current state of soil resources in the world, and focuses on agricultural development of Siberian land within Russia and the world and its hidden productive potential, which in the process of time will have greater economic importance. Chapter Three reviews the impact of recent climate changes and technogenic contamination with fluorides emitted by aluminum smelters on the microbial transformation of carbon, the regimes of functioning, and the state of agroecosystems on gray forest soils (Luvic Greyzemic Phaeozems) in the forest-steppe zone of the Baikal region on the basis of data of the long-term agroecological monitoring. Chapter Four studies the ecological interactions that take place within the vast region of Siberia among the avian reservoir hosts and viral populations, and the environment they utilize. Chapter Five presents the results of hydro-chemical research conducted in the spring of 2013 and end of August of 2014 in the northern part of Western Siberia. Chapter Six presents the results of research on selected terrestrial surface waters in the arctic tundra of Western Siberia conducted during the Spring of 2013, Fall of 2014, and Winter of 2015. The Activated Sludge Process: Methods and Recent Developments
Benjamin Lefèbvre (Editor)
In this collection, the authors report on the pretreatment methods for waste activated sludge based on pulsed electric field and corona discharge techniques. The effects of pulse magnitude, frequency, temperature and pretreatment time are demonstrated on the basis of cell membrane electroporation. The influence of voltage polarity, frequency, magnitude, treating time and temperature has also been demonstrated.
A description of fundamental techniques in molecular biology for the analysis of the microbiota of activated sludge is provided. Activated sludge is a heterogeneous system of organisms, organic and inorganic material, and therefore giving a specific protocol for each molecular technique would be imprudent.
The authors go on to discuss the Monod model, which provides a functional relationship between specific growth rate and substrate concentration in the bulk. Important research efforts dedicated to adequate use of the Monod model are presented, consolidating knowledge from activated sludge and biofilm modelling, identifying misdirections, and setting parameters for further research.

January is #GlaucomaAwareness Month. Read up on the specifics of the disease here: Uveitic Glaucoma Stephen D. Anesi, Jamie Lynne Metzinger, Olga Cerón and C. Stephen Foster (Editors)
Uveitic Glaucoma provides an overview of the disease, as well as the pathophysiology, diagnosis, management, and an examination of the disease in specific populations. The term “uveitic glaucoma” is used to describe glaucoma associated with uveitis or ocular inflammation. It is an important, yet underappreciated condition, as uveitis and glaucoma separately account for a substantial proportion of cases of blindness worldwide. Their co-occurrence, however, provides an additional layer of complexity for patients and their treating ophthalmologists. In this publication, we emphasize a “hands-on” medical and surgical approach aimed at educating patients and practitioners with topic sections crafted in a concise, manageable way.
