Okay. So. Two of these are inspired by me lol. The first is the soda shop bc Nicky’s texts are my go texts (with the location changed) because all of my friends are lactose intolerant and i want to try these weird drinks!!! I also eat dry pasta and i think Andrew would, too, even if it’s bad for your teeth. The rest are either taken from Twitter, tumblr, or my weird little brain!

Neil loves his name. One time he wrote his name in his notebook with a heart instead of a dot above the 'i'. Aaron caught him by looking over his shoulder and laughed so hard he almost passed out. Years later on the invitation for Katelyn and Aaron's wedding Neil's name is written with the heart. Andrew thinks it's just how Katelyn writes, but Neil knows that it's Aaron trying to piss him off.

"Why are you writing Neil's name with a heart?" Katelyn asks her fiancé as they are filling out the wedding invitations.

Aaron looks at her with a diabolical smile on his face. "It will piss him off, you'll see."

Don't get me wrong, there's never a point in aftg where Aaron and Neil are close personal friends, but I think that the slow escalation of their hostility towards each other actually offers an important insight into who they are as characters. I think it makes so much sense that Aaron and Neil dislike each other more as they learn more about each other, because the two of them are mirrors in a lot of ways.

There is, of course, the Andrew of it all, which is sort of at the center of everything and what gets the most focus: it's how Aaron looks at Neil and hates him for holding Andrew's attention in a way Aaron feels like he's never been able to, and it's how Neil sees Andrew's unyielding commitment to Aaron and how him being Andrew's brother gives him the sort of belonging Neil desperately wants.

But I think their similarities only fuel the negative feelings that arise because of those things—they both had complicated relationships with their mothers, and continue to be affected by the memory of them. They both have a goal for their lives and work toward it with an intense focus. Neither of them feels the need to hold back from shit-talking people (Aaron just doesn't care enough to do it as often). Neither of them is willing to talk to Betsy about their trauma (a fact which probably makes Aaron even angrier about Neil's plan being to get the twins in therapy together, because this fact paired with Andrew's relationship with & comfort around Betsy makes these sessions an uneven playing field).

And so, while tensions are already building for other mafia- and Andrew-related reasons, these things, little similarities between the two of them that are mostly tied to bad memories, are adding fuel to that fire, giving them more reasons to dislike each other.

Imagine Andriel kisses on the court after a game and that is how the public learns about their relationship. Neil as the captain has to do the press and he sees that as an opportunity to do something hilarious, so he grabs Aaron to go do the press with him and one of the reporters asks the wrong question.

“Are the two of you officially together?” He asked and Neil couldn’t help, but laugh at Aaron's red face. 

“Do you want to take this one, honey?” He asked away from the mic so only Aaron would hear. 

“I will kill you.” Aaron gritted through his teeth, but he approached the mic and addressed the reporter. “Can you read?” 

The reporter was taken aback by the question. “Excuse me?” He asked. 

“It’s quite a simple question. Can you read?” Aaron repeated himself, but didn’t wait for an answer this time. “You see this.” He said while gesturing to his jersey. “This is a five.” He said and held up five fingers to emphasize his point. “Andrew wears one with a three on it” He held up three fingers this time. “Either you can’t read or you are just a shity sports reporter and have no idea who either one of us are and are only interested in silly gossip. So which one is it?” Aaron paused, waiting for the reporter to answer. 

There was only silence so Aaron turned to Neil. “Which one do you think it is, Neil?”

Neil smiled and faked being deep in thought. “I think the latter. He looks the type.”

Aaron nodded. “Yes, I agree it’s the-'' He paused, gesturing in the direction of the now fully embarrassed reporter. 

“It’s the face.” Neil said not really caring that he didn’t make much sense.

“Yes! Thank you Neil. It’s the face.” Aaron agreed like it would bug him all night without Neil input. 

“Any other questions? Preferably about exy this time since that’s why we’re here.” Aaron said and Neil never thought that he would hear the blonde willingly suggest talking about exy. 

After their little stunt no one dared to ask about anything other than exy for the rest of the conference.

knowing Andreil is forever means that Aaron and Neil will also forever be in each others life.

at some point they’ll get to a frenemies stage. they still hate each other but they have their friendly moments every now and then.

i’m sure Aaron will be able to stand Neil being with Andrew after Andrew chose Neil over him.

they still very much hate each other tho. just not as much as in tkm. they worry about Andrew together.

AU where Aaron meets some earlier iteration of Neil, before his mom dies and Abram/Nathaniel start showing through the cracks.

They’re not close or anything but they hang out sometimes, maybe study together. And the whole time they’re both just like, ‘I am doing so so well at passing for normal, I even have this normal-ass sort-of-friend and he doesn’t have a whiff of suspicion that I’m secretly a profoundly damaged individual. This is going so great :)’

They are soon to change their minds however.
