highly specific aaron headcanons because i think about him often
(warning for abuse, eating disorder, drug mention)
his favourite type of shark is a bullshark
he knows an abnormal amount about sharks because he had this book he borrowed from the library on a trip when he was like 8 but he never returned it and then they moved away and he took it with him and now it's somewhere in the attic of the columbia house. anyway it was all about different types of sharks and facts about sharks and it was the only book he owned until around highschool so he read it a lot. (hidden under the covers of his bed holding his breath at the sound of footsteps) he used to spend long nights staring at the pictures when he was high and his mom was out and his head was too loud to think. he didnt look at it after tilda died until after he graduated.
his favourite hoodie is a thick green oakland A's one
his favourite season is spring
texts with punctuation but no capital letters
his favourite movie is toy story
he doesn't like christmas music
he did a stick n poke on his thigh one time as a kid. the ink is barely visible because his mother stubbed a cigarette one it when she saw but it used to be a flower
when he was really little he wanted to be a marine biologist and before that an author
he gets katelyn's favourite flower tattooed on his shoulder on their honeymoon
pierced his own ear with a safety pin age 14. thought about it again age 19 and realised he was lucky as shit it didn't get infected
favorite radiohead album is ok computer
first ever concert was bruce springsteen
is a lot better with kids than people expect him to be
very good liar. andrew is usually the only person who can see through him, but not always
was bulimic as a teenager. didn't know that was what it was until it came up in class when he was 21 and he sort of realised. oh. swings in and out of having trouble eating, mostly relying on bland stuff he doesn't have to taste for when he can't eat much.
age 26 he drives past his old house in san jose. there's two kids playing in the driveway and their mom watching them from the doorway with a smile on her face. he keeps driving, pulls over once he makes it out of the suburbs, and calls his brother.
can do a backflip
can play wonderwall by oasis on guitar
his favourite time of day is sunrise
bad circulation. his fingers, feet, and nose, are always cold
can't sleep on planes
his favourite song is dancing in the dark by bruce springsteen
gets a tongue piercing on a whim in med school and then he just has one
needed braces as a kid but never had them so he has a slight overbite
he's broken his nose three times and it healed crooked
hunches over a lot and it is definitely not good for his posture. this also means he looks smaller than he is and so relies on the fact that he's also a lot stronger than he looks
learned how to cartwheel from katelyn and regularly just goes outside and does a cartwheel or two to make sure he can still do them
weirdly good at making up stories on the fly. lies about his past to most of his coworkers/colleagues just to avoid questions
loves debates tho. he and kate regularly pick a topic to lovingly argue about while they make dinner together
when kate started learning sign language to communicate with her younger patients better, aaron learned it with her and they use it together a lot to keep them both on their toes
likes the smell of bleach, petrol, and smoke
sleeps lightly, on his side, hunched up in a ball. little spoon
can't sleep in any kind of light whatsoever
#aarons favorite shark is OBVIOUSLY the bullshark youre so right!#good on him for just. getting holes stabbed into his face.#very admirable#aaron minyard#aftg#the need to prove he can still cartwheel#yes king! give us aging stubbornly!

what if Kevin did see more than the court? but he saw contrition and abuse and repercussions, too, and knew if he kept his head down and focused on exy instead of Jean that he could keep them both safe? what then?

aaron: if i tell you i'm going to kill you it's probably not serious. unless i feel like killing you that is
jean: been getting really into astrology lately. going to start blaming my psychological issues on jupiter. that bitch can handle some of them
jeremy: men love me because i am emotionally stunted just like their hero, michael myers

seth: all good things come from dubious sources :) mr computer virus has my best interests at heart

matt: they never should've let me drive. do you know you can just hit curbs now. you can drive on grass and it doesn't even put you back to the start of the race
wymack: dude don't you dare kill yourself or i'll kill you

thinking about Nicky putting himself and the twins up in a hotel before he got the Columbia house. one with two rooms and 4 beds and he still chooses to sleep on the shitty pull out couch because Aaron gets antsy sharing private space and he knows Andrew would kill him for the suggestion
and its expensive, and he cant afford it, but there's a small kitchen and the twins have comfortable beds and they have those double chocolate muffins that Andrew likes every morning.
and its so much better than living with his parents. sure its incredibly expensive and slightly uncomfortable but anything is better than him living with his father, Andrew living with someone who didn't believe him, and Aaron not being fed his fathers bullshit.
they're safe, they're comfortable and that's all Nicky could ask for

"Andrew is actually the normal one in the relationship even though from outsider standpoint it looks like Neil is"
It's wrong, I think. The point is that they both are freaks and match each other. That is the idea. They are socially weird and traumatised so they can understand each other. None of them is supposed to be the "normal" one

nicky + the twins headcannons
andrew was a little blindsided by nicky taking custody. after tilda passed, andrew was expecting to go back into the system and he was ready to fight tooth and nail to stay with his brother and keep them both safe, or make luther and maria regret taking them in everyday the twins spent under the hemmick's roof.
andrew gave nicky a really wide berth for a really long time. in his mind, an adult man he doesn't know flies halfway across the world, leaving behind what sounds like a happy life, to get two underage boys alone in a house with him. at first, there's no "this is my cousin, this is my family." he doesn't know this person. he's never known this person. but he knows nicky's father. and andrew doesn't want that person alone with his brother.
neither twin really thought nicky was going to be a good guardian. both were expecting to fend for themselves a lot more than they ended up having to.
nicky spends the first several weeks cataloging every little detail about the twins that he can. aaron likes spicy food, andrew does not. andrew tears all his food into tiny pieces for some reason and aaron eats like a normal human being. andrew has a major sweet tooth. aaron also likes sweets, but prefers salty snacks. both twins always seem to be cold. both twins like to color-code things. both twins are right-handed and have horrific handwriting.
all the twins' teachers tell nicky that the boys are incredibly smart but don't seem to engage with their full potential. andrew excels at english and writing based classes while aaron flourishes in math and science.
nicky bakes a (pretty okay) cake for the twins birthday and presents it at breakfast. it's the first time someone actually bakes aaron a birthday cake.
nicky would purposely say or do things to get negative attention from the twins because he saw the way they would make eye contact across the room/the table when nicky would annoy them. he decides that letting them have a common enemy may help bring them a little closer than making an enemy out of each other.
it's nicky that teaches the twins to drive.
aaron and nicky bond over television shows.
nicky remembers the first time each twin chose to spend time with him. aaron sat down beside him and silently watched the show nicky was finishing. andrew helped nicky clean up the kitchen on their birthday after nicky made them the cake.
#the fridge is cluttered with school work and pictures and achievements#it still has aarons first b+ essay#nicky loves to take pictures of family time#usually andrew doesnt allow this but birthdays and holidays are the exception#so there are loooots of photos of annoyed aaron and a few of neutral andrew#nicky had no idea what to do in terms of like consequences#so they were never grounded but he did get creative#like they had to help him cook dinner or work together to tidy up or smth#he still has no clue if it was effective but he knows theyre both alive so

maybe unpopular opinion but i kinda don't want jeremy to ever react to something violently because i don't want jean to have to live with that sliver of fear that jeremy could be capable of violence toward him like there's definitely something appealing about like jeremy getting a red card defending jean but at the same time i find the idea of him *never* resorting to violence really appealing too. jean seeing jeremy very very angry and yet still not hurting anyone with that anger? proving to jean that violence is not guaranteed? yeah

Hehe have a short Jean, Cat, and Jeremy story!
Neil: Back at the airport. Flight lands at 3pm
Andrew: k
Kevin: How is Jean?
Neil: Alive. Talk later.
...
Andrew and Kevin were waiting for him at the airport when Neil landed. He was exhausted. After he'd dropped Jean off back at his house, Neil had gone to meet Stuart at a hotel room where they had talked strategy late into the night. He'd verified that his hit on Grayson had reached the right people and would be taken care of in the next day or two. And he asked Uncle Stuart for one extra favor. He went to the airport after that and slept on the plane.
He gave them a brief rundown of what had happened, omitting the parts about Grayson and Elodie. He wasn't sure Jean would want him sharing about that with Kevin. He'd fill Andrew in on the rest later, when they were in private.
A week later, a package was delivered to his school mailbox with no return address. Neil ignored all of Kevin's questions about it. The next day, he dragged Andrew down with him to the school post office and mailed off the package to Jean.
...
Cat grabbed the mail from the mailbox before she went inside the house after practice. It was more of the same, junk mail, a bill for electricity, some catalogues, but at the bottom is a large white envelope. There was a Palmetto return address but no name and it was addressed to Jean. Curious, she beelined for the boys' room.
They were both in there. Jeremy was afraid to leave Jean alone after what had happened with Grayson. That was only further complicated by Grayson's second suicide attempt. This time he'd succeeded and it had sent Lucas into a spiral. Jean had barely reacted, which only served to concern herself, Laila, and Jeremy even more.
"You got a package, Jean. Looks like it's from Palmetto," she said, handing the package to Jean. He took it tentatively, like he was scared to find what was inside it. Cat hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should stay or let him open it in peace. She decided that if he wanted to open it alone, he could set it aside. Instead, he carefully lifted the tape that was sealing the envelope closed.
He waited a moment before he slid the contents out on the bed. It was a pile of photographs.
"Wait, is that you?" she asked as she caught sight of a familiar scowling boy about ten years old. It was strange seeing him without his 3 tattoo. Jean didn't answer but instead gently reached his finger out to touch the little girl next to him in the photo.
"She was so young," he whispered. Jeremy had moved over to Jean's bed as well.
"Do you want to look at them alone?" he asked.
Jean hesitated a moment, then shook his head.
"Stay," he said, almost too quiet to hear. Jeremy sat down next to him and Cat sat on the other side.
"Who is the girl?" Jeremy asked.
"Elodie," Jean said. "She was my little sister."
Cat felt her blood run cold as she realized what Jean was saying. Neither she nor Jeremy said anything as Jean slowly flipped through the small pile of photographs. Each one was of him and Elodie. In some, he was holding her hand or playing with her. In one, he was glaring at the camera and holding her protectively against himself. In the last one, Elodie was crying and Jean looked angry. He was hugging the girl. It was the oldest he looked out of all the photos. Cat didn't say anything when she saw a tear slip off of Jean's nose and splash onto his arm. She leaned her head against him comfortingly.
As Jean set the last photo aside, Cat saw there was a note underneath it. In messy handwriting was scrawled a short message:
You're worth just as much as she was -N
