Character name pronunciation
I wanted to make a post about it in case anyone was wondering, because I know these names can be a handful. (and I didn't even choose long names. There were much, much longer ones in use)
According to my knowledge, we don't know for sure how the words were pronounced. Historians and linguists can only compare Ancient Egyptian to other, later languages that evolved from and around it, such as Coptic, which probably sounds similar, but we can't be completely sure because the language likely evolved a lot during the thousands of years.
Here is how I pronounce them (whether it's correct or not):
Narmer: Nahr-mer
Qenna: Ken-nah
Zaia: Zah-yah
Tabiry: Tah-bee-ree
Ahmose: Akh-mo-seh (where the kh is a strong h)
Hudjefa: Hoo-jeh-fah
Petepihu: Peh-teh-pee-hoo, correspondingly, Pihu is just Pee-hoo
Ramesses or Sesi: Rahm-ses and Seh-see (with s every time, not z)
Nedjemut (captain's mother): Neh-jeh-moot
Ebo: Eh-boh
Harkhuf: Har-kh-oof, where the kh is a strong h from the back of your throat
Heset: Heh-set
I think that's all. If I forgot someone, just ask! :D

This is one of my favorite things ever (or saying their name, it’s the same. I love it.)

me: this is a background character who's in one scene, has two lines, and is completely irrelevant to the rest of the story. i am going to stop obsessing over what to name him and use the random name generator on behindthename.com. i am going to accept the first thing it gives me and move the fuck on.

Melanie is not the same as Malanie or Mèlanie or Melany or Melony or Melonie or Lemony.
I’m very curious so…
No doesn’t apply to me button because I will die on that stupid hill, if you must click use your imagination. Though to be honest these days I don’t imagine there are that many people who don’t have alternate spellings to their name…

For the purposes of this poll please just stick to birth names! I'd like to do another poll for names people chose themselves later in life.

#a teacher in hs told me that babies couldn’t be baptized Catholic unless they had a saints name#or a name from the Bible or smth idk#I believed him then but have since realized how illogical that is#but I do have a fair few saints names picked out for future kids
I mean, you see people picking like, a baptismal saint, which is kind of similar, but not actually the kids' name? Sort of? I have a friend whose baby was baptized, and was kind of unnerved that the priest was like, "Oh yeah, we'll just use the saint of the same name as the kid!" only to find out that the saint in question was brutally martyred.
I sometimes see the notion in Catholic circles that one's child must be named after a canonized saint (and the Catholic hipster book I read suggested early Church saints' names).
I disagree with that notion.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health released a report on Thursday, including the names of more than seven thousand Palestinians who were martyred in the Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip.
Red color highlights 0-4 years old age group
Green color highlights age group 5-17
White color highlights the age group between 18 and 59 years old
Gray color highlights the age group over 60
These are not just names, but people killed in the midst of a brutal war. Remember their names.
