also i will die on the hill that the only pet name ethan uses is ‘baby,’ and, less frequently, he’ll say ‘my benji.’

it’s like another way of saying i love you. because every time he thinks about or looks at benji he’s so overwhelmed and bursting with how much he loves him and all the things he loves about him that his mind and his brain just shut down and he can’t process any of the thoughts into words. all he can do is call benji baby, or whisper ‘my benji’ into his hair, or simply tell him he loves him.

and when he does say ‘my benji,’ it’s something more when they’re alone together and it’s a quiet expression of love, something murmured into his shoulder, neck, cheek, lips.

and sometimes, he’ll say “i love you, baby,” say them together, and benji melts because he knows all that ethan’s trying to say with such few words. it’s the culmination of everything ethan feels for him and then too, is benji overwhelmed.
