For the record, my current special interest is steel/titanium gothic accessories. I love them. They make me happy and feel warm inside. I wouldn't say I'm goth, but I do love to look terrifying. 70s gothic alt, maybe? I dunno. I'm not a style expert.

Also its a funny coincidence that I'm making a poll about a guy called Brian Johnson, because I'm wearing an AC/DC shirt as I type this lmao.

His gimmick in the show is trying to learn how normal people behave, which feels like an accidental autism allegory to me. He doesn't know social cues at all and solves social situations in weird ways. He misinterprets things. He gets fixated on different things, like his spoon collection and pen collection. When he's fixated on something, he wants to act on it right away instead of being patient, causing frustration in those around him.

Rating 500+ Theme Tunes - #7: My Parents are Aliens

This one is for all the British people of certain vintage... not that much vintage to be fair, but a certain one nonetheless! This CITV sitcom follows three orphan siblings with their new adoptive parents, who just happen to be a pair of stranded aliens. For those not in the know, this was a fairly successful show on CITV from 1999-2006 that I know many remember well, helped by many reruns. Did you know they just erase all memory of 7 seasons for season 8 to be a reboot that got cancelled? Wild.

While this show is most famous in the UK for being on CITV, it even aired on Nickelodeon! I'm unsure if it ever reached many audiences overseas, so you'll have to let me know. It's a show I hear a lot of people a few years older than me look back on with reverence, even if it has slipped through the cracks slightly for many in my generation. These sorts of sitcoms are absolutely a lost art in the modern day, but that's a wider change in British television and television as a whole in my opinion.

While it was likely reruns by the time I was watching it, I definitely remember My Parents are Aliens being one of the premier shows on CITV. These reruns lasted until 2017! This show is super iconic, I don't care if you don't remember it! I honestly can't remember much other than the intro and title, because I was pretty young when I was watching it properly, but I know I watched it a lot. My Mum used to bring this one up quite a lot, and from what I understand it was pretty popular as a whole family show. Now: theme time!

Now musically, it's a fairly simple tune. There's that science fiction twang to precedings here, which is a natural fit for the subject matter, but its definitely not something that sticks with me too much beyond the show's beginning. I don't really think it goes anywhere, and just sort of jumps around from sound to sound as it tells the story of the show through the visuals... very ugly visuals I must say. Still, it's a perfectly fine tune overall.

I don't have lots particularly great to say about this intro. but I also don't have much particularly bad to say about it. It's pretty simple, but still memorable in its own special way. Hence, I know exactly what I will be rating this theme tune, and that is a C!

From adorable newborn pups to trouble making younglings, these three will always be up to mischief.

Wy'ld (12): Essentially the leader of the trio. She got the spicy attitude to pull it off while also causing tons of troubles herself because of her adventurous and curious spirit. She may be a little pup, but she already knows how to use a knife, so don't cross her or her gang.

Sam'wa (10): The muscles of the trio that can and WILL use those sticks and rocks without hesitation. Wy'ld is the child that causes disasters, while Sam is the child that's 'disaster proof', making her the ideal partner in crimes for her.

Sav'Kat (9): He's the little brother that loves to hang with his cool older siblings. That also picks up the funky things they find in their adventures in his sack. Fun fact, that bone isn't for him, but for his hound. Which WILL maul you if you get too close to the blue pup.

Rhiannon Davies (Sister of Ianto Jones): Submitted by Anonymous. Rhiannon kept in contact with her brother despite him leaving shortly after their father died. Rhiannon trusted Ianto enough to let him borrow her car and laptop when he was on the run from the government. As soon as he called her to let her know that the government was lying to them she trusted him.

Mel Barker (Older Sister of Josh + Lucy and Foster Sister of Harry + C.J.): Her top priority was always her brother and sister, Josh and Lucy. And later made it clear that Harry and C.J. counted as her family.

It’s not an purposeful parent trap on Tim’s part. He’s just pissed he can’t be Robin anymore and thinks it’s because his dad just doesn’t like Bruce (ignoring Jack’s totally normal concern for his safety). So what else would convince his dad other than the power of friendship?

Tim starts planning hangouts with them. Jack’s thrilled because his son is trying to bond! Bruce is less thrilled because he doesn’t want to make Jack any more mad, but he doesn’t miss Tim. Only… the hangouts are always at the same time and same place.

The first time, Tim plays it off as an accident. It’s a baseball game and they all just stand there awkwardly.

The second time happens a while later; he doesn’t want the men to get suspicious. It’s a school event of some sort— photography exhibitions or a spelling bee where he ensures they’re seated next to each other.

The third time is an amusement park field trip. Tim told them both that there’s a shortage of chaperones (he gave the usual volunteers a healthy dose of poison), so they naturally volunteered. School policy (Gotham) states that at least two chaperones have to be with a group at all times. Tim, Darla, and Bernard straight up ignore the chaperones the whole time. The kids give Jack and Bruce gray hairs. (They have to ride rollercoasters too. Jack is doing everything in his power to not scream lest he be bested by Wayne).

By this point, the two tolerate each other. Jack is assured Bruce isn’t a pedo and Bruce comes to understand that Jack is just a worried parent. They still “secretly” compete for Tim’s attention, but it’s like 20% less hostile.

Everything changes with the fourth time.

This time, it’s at an international history museum or something. Tim “won” three tickets and invited the both of them, saying they’d both be interested in it and he’d hate to have to choose who to make happy. They’re starting to get suspicious but they let it slide. Tim stays until the tail end of the museum tour before excusing himself to the bathroom. He asks them to tell him the rest when he’s back.

Well. The last portion of the tour had to do with cultural artifacts from around the world. Jack starts getting into heated debates/arguments because the museum worker is getting things wrong— like three of the artifacts were his findings too and some were Janet’s (“are you trying to discredit me AND my dead wife?”).

Bruce is holding him back from punching this college kid in the face.

But then the kid says something wrong about… idk like Tibetan monks(?) and now Bruce is the one yelling about stereotypes and misinformation while Jack is “trying” to hold him back.

They get kicked out.

Tim gets back from the bathroom, hears about this, and fears for the worst. Jack and Bruce are just ranting in the parking lot about the idiocy of the museum. Jack and Bruce continue to rant the whole car ride over (Tim had convinced Jack to uber in the hopes that his plan would rise above expectations).

Tim has the vague feeling he might have made a mistake, but hopes to continue his plans…

Amity Park absolutely adores her little ghostling, her little Gatekeeper who was of her own ectoplasm, reborn from her own blood in the center of her new heart. She absolutely adores her baby, practically a newborn, being only a year dead! 

So of course she had to gush and boast about her little phantom to the other city spirits! They all got together to gossip sometimes after all. And both Smallville and Fawcett started to gush about their own little ones back! 

Gosh they should set up a playdate at some point, her little phantom could use some friends in the mortal realm. Well some more friends, three is obviously not enough. Oh, Gotham and Bludhaven have come over as well! It’s a playdate then! 

Now if only each of their world’s timelines were synced up, but at least everyone is around the same age!
