soft!sebastian headcannons - part 5
Tumblr media
Author's Note: *shakes this post like a bag of cat treats* i'm back with some more soft sebby :) as a reminder my taglist is open, and if you'd like me to write any specific hc, feel free to send me an ask! and if you'd like a break from the fluff i did post some angsty!seb hc (link in my masterlist)
he’s an advocate for house elves. his parents found the idea of keeping house elves bound to their family barbaric, so he never had any growing up. stands up for house elves being mistreated by cruel students, so he’s a natural favorite among the Hogwarts house-elf community
boy is Public Enemy Number 1 for Peeves. they’ve hated each other even before the poltergeist ratted him out in the restricted section. he once dedicated an entire restricted section trip to finding books on how to cast spells to make his day a living hell (most common spells pass right through him). Peeves was livid, and so began a relationship of mutually-assured destruction
(they’ll never reach a truce, but they’ve both decided to keep their distance from the other to avoid further headaches)
back to the house elves, the kitchen elves are especially friendly towards him. he recruited their help to bake you a birthday cake, and they gladly obliged
he inherited his father’s pocket watch. his father had pasted a beautiful photograph of his mother on the inside. he has since stored the picture safely in an album and tucked a candid photo of you in its place
Anne is two minutes older than him, and she uses the ‘older sibling’ excuse to justify bossing him around. he makes it a point to wake up before her on their birthday every year so that he can feel ahead of her for once
if you’re smaller than him, he absolutely loves just picking you up. loves patting you on the head, comparing hand sizes, scooping you into his arms to deposit you in your bed if you fall asleep in the room of requirement
when he’s sick, he’s a total drama queen about it. (especially if he thinks you’ll fuss over him for it). his extra-large slytherin scarf is wrapped around his neck. he’ll pull it over the bottom half of his face and burrow into it while napping during professor binns’ notoriously dry lectures. he positively refuses to take medicine. boy has faced everything from trolls to dark wizards, but will sit and pout like a toddler if madam blainey faces him with a spoon of cough syrup
(it’s gotten to the point where Madam Blainey calls you to the hospital wing before she sends for sebastian because she knows you’re the only person who could convince him to take the medicine)
his parents used to take him and Anne to the seaside every summer. every once in awhile during the warmer months he’ll fly you to the Clagmar coast for a picnic lunch. he ties a basket laden with little sandwiches, delicate cakes, a bottle of champagne, and a blanket to the broom handle before you both take off
he’s constantly keeping an eye out for pretty shells and stones he thinks you’ll like. he's constantly running up to you with his latest "treasures." once he was so excited to show you a whelk shell he tripped over a sand dune and dropped it. he spent nearly half an hour digging through the sand to find it until you reminded him that he is, in fact, a wizard, and could use accio
he manages to find a pearl in one of the clams in a tidepool and uses the muselet from the champagne bottle to fashions it into a ring for you. he kneels in front of you in the sand, exaggerating a proposal and sliding the ring onto your finger. (naturally it’s a perfect fit. he’s spent so long memorizing the warmth and shape of your hands for it to be anything less). you laugh at his antics, but he’s sincere when he tells you it’s merely a placeholder for the real thing

After running into Malfoy at a New Year's Day party and overhearing some choice opinions he has on Harry’s character, Harry decides to change his life for good. Quit smoking, drink less, dress better, excel at his brand new role as Puddlemere’s manager, and find a nice, adult man he can settle down with. Sounds easy, right?
“This is… for me?” Harry asked. Cautiously, he pried the lid open and peered inside, immediately hit with the scent of sweet fruit and rich butter. Malfoy nodded. He walked over to Harry’s sideboard. He looked at the cup for about a millisecond before he started fussing with Harry’s tea set, grabbing a couple of fine china teacups and flipping them over.  “Weren’t you listening when I said I have something for you, Potter?” He twisted the champagne bottle’s muselet, tossing it onto the table. “It’s galette,” he said primly. He winced as he popped the champagne, holding it at arm’s length. “I made it last night.” Harry frowned. “You made me a galette?” “You catch on quick, don’t you?” Malfoy drawled.

Tease Tidbit Tuesday 🍾
Tagged by the devastatingly talented @wikiangela @daffi-990 Thank you, loves 💖
Continuing on in you're where I wanna go (prev snippets here). Buck and Lucy survived their big day and I needed them to have a moment to unwind. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it.
Buck steps out of the way, narrowly avoiding Lucy as she pushes past him towards a bottle of champagne he hadn’t noticed before. She lifts it from the tub of ice perched on a bar cart and holds it up victoriously, like she’s won a trophy.  “Well, Buckley.” Lucy lands on the couch in an inelegant heap that makes Buck snort. When she settles, she rests the champagne next to her and begins pulling at her laces until they’re loose enough that she can kick her boots off. “You want to get the glasses or just share?” Years of etiquette lessons — coupled with dinners, luncheons and parties where he needed to know which fork was for salad and which spoon was for sorbet — make him want to retrieve the two champagne flutes nestled next to the ice bucket. But then he realizes he doesn’t have to. It’s him and Lucy, who just offered to share the bottle between them. No one else is there to judge or shame him.  “You know, you’re a Buckley now, too,” Buck teases. He quickly snatches up the bottle and begins to twist the muselet.  “Only on paper,” she reminds him. “I hope you know what you’re doing with that thing.”  Buck huffs a laugh while he continues uncorking the champagne. “You think I never swiped one of these from a party or two?”  His face splits into a wide grin when he manages to remove the cork and not spill any of it. “I’ll even let you have the first sip, because I am a gentleman.” “Ohhh, is that what you are?” Lucy smirks, accepts the offer, and takes a lengthy sip. When she’s done, she lowers the bottle, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand.  “At least as much of one as you are a lady,” he counters.

Global Champagne Day
Global Champagne Day is celebrated every year on the fourth Friday in October and this year, it falls on October 25. The beverage is a sparkling wine that originated and is produced in the Champagne wine region of France. Most champagne is produced with Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay grapes; although smaller amounts of Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris (called Fromenteau in Champagne), Arbane, and Petit Meslier are also used. Traditionally, it is served in a champagne flute, whose characteristics include a long stem with a tall, narrow bowl, thin sides, and an etched bottom. It’s usually reserved for celebrations, especially New Year’s Day, right as the year begins, and the winners of racing competitions tend to spray champagne at each other and the crowd.
History of Global Champagne Day
The oldest recorded sparkling wine is Blanquette de Limoux, which was supposedly invented in 1531 by Benedictine monks in the Abbey of Saint-Hilaire, near Carcassonne. The process was achieved by bottling the wine before the initial fermentation had ended. A hundred years later, an English scientist named Christopher Merret documented the addition of sugar to a finished wine to create a second fermentation. He detailed to the Royal Society what is now called ‘méthode traditionnelle,’ in 1662, but it would not be used for champagne until the 19th century, about 200 years later.
In France, the creation of the first sparkling champagne was accidental. It was called the “Devil’s Wine” because bottles exploded or corks popped as a result of the pressure in the bottle. At the time, the bubbles were considered a fault. The invention of the muselet by Adolphe Jaquesson in 1844 helped prevent the corks from blowing out. Even when it began to be deliberately produced as a sparkling wine, for a very long time champagne was made using the ‘méthode rurale,’ in which the wine was bottled before the initial fermentation had finished.
The production of champagne saw massive growth in the 19th century, from a more regional production of 300,000 bottles a year in 1800 to 20 million bottles by 1850. In that century, champagne was noticeably sweeter than the ones from today. A taste for drier champagnes began when Perrier-Jouët decided not to sweeten his 1846 vintage before exporting it to London. Thus, in 1876, the designation of ‘brut’ champagne was created for the British, to identify the driest champagne, made with less than 0.4 ounces of added sugar per liter.

Global Champagne Day FAQs
What does champagne symbolize?
It is perceived by many as the wine of happiness and celebration of excellence, which presides over all moments of celebration and success. This is why we always drink it to celebrate important things.
Is champagne stronger than beer?
In most cases, yes. A bottle of beer usually has around 4.5% alcohol whereas a bottle of champagne has around 12 to 20% alcohol.
Is champagne the healthiest alcohol?
It contains antioxidants that prevent damage to your blood vessels, reduce bad cholesterol and prevent blood clots; proteins that are beneficial for your short-term memory; fewer calories than both red and white wine, and can lower your risk of contracting diabetes by 13%.
Global Champagne Day Activities
Pop open a bottle: This one is self-explanatory. Gather some friends or family and drink your favorite champagne.
Learn how to open a bottle with a champagne saber: If you’re a big enough enthusiast of champagne, you’ve probably heard of this unusual act. There are specific sabers you can buy that are made for cutting the top of champagne bottles. You need to follow some special instructions, so make sure you know what you’re doing before you try it in front of others.
Visit the Champagne region: The ultimate way to celebrate. You can learn first-hand how champagne is made, visit a palace and a cathedral, and fly over the vineyards on a hot-air balloon.
5 Mind-Blowing Facts About Champagne
Right to the name: It is illegal in most countries to use the word ‘champagne’ to refer to any sparkling wine that doesn’t come from the Champagne region in France.
It was called ‘shampanskoe’ in Russia: This translates to "that, which is of Champagne," only in 2021 did Russia ban the name for imported sparkling wine, but it’s still used today for some brands produced in former Soviet republics.
High velocity: When popped, a champagne cork can reach a velocity of 24.8 miles per hour.
177 feet and nine inches: That is the longest recorded cork flight.
$2.07 million: That is what the most expensive bottle of champagne costs, designed by Alexander Amosu and Swarovski, handcrafted from 18-carat solid gold, and with a deep-cut 19-carat white diamond at its center.
Why We Love Global Champagne Day
It’s a day to share our favorite champagne with others: Usually, people only drink champagne at celebrations, but if you’re a big enthusiast, this day is a good excuse to drink with friends and family. If you own several bottles, you can make a show out of it and have them try different types.
It’s a chance to learn more about champagne: The history and process of making champagne is quite lengthy. There are many books and internet articles, and videos documenting everything very well.
It makes us feel like James Bond: While it’s often said that the Vodka Martini is the secret agent’s favorite drink, he has drunk champagne more often in the films. It shows up over 35 times, and his favorite brand seems to be Bollinger, which is seen in 14 movies.

Cork, cap, muselet, foil
A bottle of champagne is sealed by a combination of four elements, disregarding the shape of the bottle itself.
The cork is a stopper, usually made from the tree of the same name, which is compressed to actually close the bottle. There's so many corks that our demijohns overflow, and not just from the champagne ones.
The cap is a little metal thing that is placed atop the cork to keep it in place. There's so many caps that our cups cannot hold them all, they spill out into the floor if you jostle the shelves too much.
The muselet is a tiny wire cage that secures the cork and cap to the bottle. There's so many muselets in our drawers that I could sink into them and be wrapped up completely.
And lastly, the foil covers the cork and neck of the bottle to keep it nice, clean, and presentable. There's so many tins that have turned into balls of dirty gold and silver, if their holders would break I would surely drown.
But I just don't see the appeal, I've always liked cider more anyways.

How do I open a sparkling wine bottle?
Sparkling wine is synonymous with celebrations and special occasions. From Champagne to Prosecco, the effervescence and elegance of these bubbling delights add a touch of sophistication to any gathering. However, opening a sparkling wine bottle requires a certain level of finesse to ensure a successful and enjoyable experience. In this blog post, we will provide a step-by-step guide on how to open a sparkling wine bottle, referencing the website The Fine Wine Company, a reputable online destination for exquisite sparkling wines.
Tumblr media
Chilling the Bottle:
Before opening a sparkling wine bottle, it's essential to ensure that it is properly chilled. Sparkling wines are best served cold, as lower temperatures help retain their effervescence and enhance the taste. Place the bottle in a refrigerator for a few hours or in an ice bucket filled with ice and water for about 30 minutes before opening. The website mentioned offers a variety of sparkling wines to choose from, each with specific recommendations for the ideal serving temperature.
Removing the Foil:
Start by removing the foil or the capsule that covers the cork. Hold the bottle firmly with one hand, and with the other hand, untwist the wire cage (muselet) securing the cork. Keep your thumb on top of the cork to prevent it from popping prematurely. The website may provide additional tips or recommendations on handling the specific sparkling wine bottle you have chosen.
Loosening the Cork:
To loosen the cork, hold the bottle at a 45-degree angle, keeping your thumb firmly in place. Slowly and gently twist the bottle, not the cork, while applying slight upward pressure. The goal is to ease the cork out gradually without any sudden movements or loud noises. The website might have specific instructions or suggestions for the optimal technique based on the type of sparkling wine you have selected.
Controlling the Release:
As the cork begins to loosen, you will start to hear a soft hiss or a gentle pop. Maintain control over the cork by gently guiding it out of the bottle using your hand. Avoid pointing the bottle towards yourself or others to prevent any accidents. By controlling the release, you can prevent excessive foaming or spillage. The website might offer insights into the expected level of effervescence and provide guidance on handling the specific type of sparkling wine.
Pouring the Wine:
Once the cork is safely out of the bottle, it's time to pour the sparkling wine. Hold the bottle by the base or the punt, ensuring a steady grip. Tilt the glass slightly and pour the wine gently down the side of the glass to preserve the bubbles and maintain a controlled flow. Allow the foam to settle before topping up the glass to ensure an optimal tasting experience. The website may offer specific serving suggestions, glassware recommendations, or insights into the ideal pouring technique.
Savoring the Moment:
Now that you have successfully opened the sparkling wine bottle and poured the wine, take a moment to appreciate the occasion. Raise your glass, make a toast, and enjoy the delightful effervescence and flavors of the sparkling wine. The website might provide tasting notes or pairing suggestions to enhance your enjoyment and make the most of your sparkling wine experience.
Conclusion:
Opening a sparkling wine bottle is an art that requires finesse and a touch of elegance. By following these steps and referring to the website The Fine Wine Company, you can confidently open a bottle of sparkling wine and celebrate in style. Remember to chill the bottle, remove the foil and wire cage, loosen the cork gently, control the release, pour with precision, and savor the moment. Cheers to the joys of sparkling wine and the special moments it accompanies!
