Paris: A Year Abroad in a short film
Audio: "Burnt Norton" by Lana Del Rey, a rendition of the original poem "Burnt Norton" by T.S. Eliot.
Where do I even start? Paris has wholly shaped me in ways I never imagined. We refer to Paris as the city of love, but I'm now more inclined to call it the city of art - which only leaves more room for love in your heart. There is so much to contemplate and appreciate in frequenting the vast array of art museums here - from the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Musée de l’Orangerie, the Centre Georges Pompidou, and many more. Not only has my perspective on art expanded, but so has my worldview. That’s because art is truly everywhere in this city; art can be found in the walkable streets amidst the rich architecture, the fashionable outfits seen in daily life, and even the exquisite decor in stores and when you cheekily peek into Parisian appartments!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's always something new to discover in Paris, I'm almost saddened at the thought of the things I've yet to discover or missed. The treasures to unveil in Paris move far beyond the typical tourist hotspots we all know and love. I am obsessed with Parisian boutiques; they are chic and unique (that unintentionally rhymed) in the best way possible. One of my favourites is La Tonkinoise à Paris, located in the 11th arrondissement. This particular arrondissmenet is the best in Paris to be honest, it holds a special place in my heart as I had the wonderful opportunity of living there, so perhaps you can say that I am somewhat biased. Still, I can confidently say that this animated, hip and creative neighbourhood is one everyone should have the chance to explore.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
La Tonkinoise à Paris, owned by the lovely Chantal, is my favourite hidden gem in Paris. I had the pleasure of befriending Chantal as I ended up frequenting her store one too many times; I've garnered quite a collection over time. This boutique offers a wide range of eccentric and sustainable jewellery, with her earring creations being the show stoppers, in my opinion. Her jewellery is composed of rings, pearls, brooches, charms, and watches, all unearthed in flea markets and recycled. I love that every piece of jewellery indeed is a unique piece. The decor changes based on the season and theme of her new collections, making it an ever-changing and exciting shopping experience. This is honestly the best jewellery store I have ever been to in my life! I wish the pictures I took could do the jewellery and the boutique's decor justice, but it simply won't, I'm afraid.

Now, onto food, I genuinely need to figure out where to start here. My favourite authentic French restaurant would have to be 'Le Potager du Père Thierry', located in Montmartre. Although it's incredibly small, I love the cosy vibe; I feel like I can enjoy delicious food with friends without feeling surrounded by strangers. Surprisingly, it's also very quiet (yet packed) - I guess the food is just too distracting.
As of late, my favourite non-french restaurant has to be 'Big Black Cook' (let's ignore how inappropriate that pun is, though funny). It's located in the 2nd arrondissement and serves Caribbean food, my friend claims that it was the best meat she's had!
For brunch, I recommend Café Méricourt in the 11th arrondissement. Their green Eggs & Feta are absolutely incredible and quite innovative as far as brunch places go.
As for a boulangerie - seriously, anywhere, literally anywhere in Paris, go to your nearest bakery; there need not be a big fuss - you're in for a scrumptious baked treat regardless!
Tumblr media
I'm ever so grateful for the chance to have lived in Paris for an extended period; you cannot appreciate Paris in its entire splendour from a mere short-term visit. The city is an actual work of art; art is everywhere in the city, from the street performers and musicians, the light filters through the trees, the city's many architecturally rich bridges, the picturesque cafés and boulangeries, the beautifully presented food, the way that the city's many different neighbourhoods each have their own distinct character and vibe. In Paris, art is everywhere.

Did i mention art nouveau is one of my favourite styles?

{ OOC / HC } Morty lives in a penthouse style apartment in the tallest building on the Citadel. It consists of two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, dining room and an en suite bathroom.
As for the detail, I'll be describing his bed area inside of his bedroom. He sleeps on a queen sized mattress. The bed has four posts that form a canopy of sorts. He's draped a thin white sheet for a more royal look over the posts. Despite his favorite color being orange, his duvet is of a royal, dark purple. His sheets are usually either white or black. And his pillow cases are satin orange.
On either sides of his bed are two nightstands. One of them he has a speaker system that he can dock his phone on, to play music for his morning alarm and simultaneously charging it. Next to that is a coaster to hold drinks, it's wooden and has a geometric design on it. On top of that is a mug that's usually empty, where he stores paper clips, pencils and the occasional chocolate bar inside.
The other nightstand holds a few books that he likes to read before bed. His portal gun, in case if he needs to leave in the middle of the night, and inside the drawer he has a knife and a gun. Used as protection in case if someone tries to break in.

If all goes well, I'll be moving into a new place that'll likely become a permanent home (for the near future at least). My family regularly moved around when I was growing up, and I've been changing homes every few years or so since I graduated from university, so I've never actually moved into a place with the intention of staying there.
Of course, I don't know the future, and it's possible I'll move again, but I might actually get to, like, decorate my space with things I never bothered getting because I didn't want to have to move them in a few years.
Like, y'know those giant mirrors people just prop up against the wall? My friend found one of those at a garage sale once. She hauled it home, spray-painted the frame black and gold, and put it in her bedroom. I've always thought it's gorgeous.
Another friend has all these massive art pieces. Huge canvases, sculptures, easels, paint-dappled sheets packed into this bulky steamer trunk given to her by a relative.
I always enjoyed the freedom of being able to do most of my moves with only boxes. I could've had bigger things, or stayed in places longer, but I think I just enjoyed the allure of uprooting everything and moving somewhere new, even if it was only to the next district over or to a new apartment in the same city.
The one thing I didn't really get to do by moving around so much was form a community and make a long-term home. So that's the hope this time. I think I'd like to live somewhere with intention. To become part of a community in a way I haven't before.
And to get some big, heavy things for my space, things with weight that represent roots and stability. <3

Yes, yes - I want to hang the art in front of the books, too. Just layer all that stuff and let your eyes go crazy trying to look at it all.
I toured a house yesterday and when we walked through the "formal dining room" all I could think was, "FUCK NO, this is the library!" Seriously - fireplace and great old crystal chandelier and hardwood floors... all it needed was bookcases all around.

The strangest thing for me, having returned to tumblr after years away using other sites (like Reddit) is how much my tastes have evolved but also the tastes on tumblr.
When I was younger, it was easy to find crisp minimal interiors and fancy modern houses and think "how beautiful."
Now however, even houses like this make me sigh and feel "how impractical." Those lovely A-frame segments are just going to make day to day life more difficult, in spite of their aesthetic appeal.
But additionally, the rise of maximalism is shocking. Far more than images like the one above, I'm seeing houses filled to the brim with trinkets, walls covered in art, pillows everywhere... And I simply can't get behind that either.
That extreme visual clutter, even done intentionally would give me anxiety attacks

Salon from Hôtel Lambert de Villacerf on display in Musée Carnavalet in Paris.
Paneling of the cabinet of the Colbert de Villacerf hotel
Around 1650
Carved, painted and gilded wood
Acquired by the city of Paris for the Carnavalet museum in 1867
In the 17th century, Parisian hôtels (mansions) of a certain importance had their main apartments paneled – that is to say covered with wall woodwork.
The woodwork of the cabinet of the Hôtel Colbert de Villacerf, built around 1650 in Rue de Turenne, not far from Place des Vosges, was acquired in 1867 by the Parisian municipality and reassembled in the museum around 1913-1914. Rare complete decoration from the mid-17th century, this cabinet constitutes a characteristic example of “French-style paneling”. The decor innovates with the choice of a vaulted ceiling, dethroning the traditional beams and joists or the flat ceiling with compartments. The paneling is divided into panels decorated with a decorative motif: its ornamental language introduces a lot of fantasy mixing the human figure with animals and plants.

Ultimate Interior Designer.
Two potential flavors.
One with Angie's charisma and Gonta's innocence. Highly influenced by Kondo aesthetic. Names things and thanks them and helps you keep the things you want in your life and shows you how to arrange your house for that. Highly specialized interior design per person.
One who comes paired with the Ultimate Construction Lead. Highly influenced by HGTV shows. They are always together. They are marketable. They have their own line in some store that you know off the top of your head. Multiple TV shows. Constant coverage. For added bonus, make the Ultimate Construction Lead a girl. Can be specialized, but usually vibes with current trends. Very modern aesthetic. Sometimes uncanny valley vibes.
