Kagami goes to a different school, per ...I think an Adrien comment on the in-character Instas? And I wouldn't actually put it past Tomoe to insist on Kagami only owning clothes Tomoe approves of, and therefore a stack of uniforms from Kagami's previous school is all the clothing Kagami owns for everyday purposes.
Nor do I particularly doubt that the show creators are well-intentioned, or at least that they're well-intentioned with regards to subjects on which the fandom is not dogpiling Astruc on Twitter. (Special highlight to Sabine's everyday outfit being arranged like she's going to a funeral, not like it's an ordinary day. Not to the Imperial Japan flag in "Ephemeral" bc I cannot figure out how that could have been an innocent mistake, like, they could have put in distinctively shaped Japanese architecture or the actual current flag of Japan, and the latter should have come up on internet searches earlier and lots more frequently than the flag they used did.)
I'm even willing to believe the Exceedingly Ethnic akuma designs for Tomoe, Kagami, Sabine, Uncle Cheng, and (to a lesser but still clear extent) all Alya's siblings, to say nothing of the one where a Black man is literally animals, are deliberately to indicate Gabriel being racist. Not sure I actually believe that, but I'm willing to.
I have less space for benefit of the doubt with how all three characters we've seen with dragon related transformations were also, until Socqueline's introduction, all three of the East Asian teenage girls in the cast. Or how the redheaded character with a Torah derived given name and a Yiddish surname is one of the ones whose superhero design has horns. Or—though to be fair this one hasn't been in the show proper, it might be a Feri design the show has no intention of using even after including Ladybug wielders Feri designed in "Reunion"—how fully half of the known historical Miraculous wielders from sub-Saharan Africa are, when transformed, literally animals. (I mean there's only Mudekudeku and her Black Cat to begin with, unless we're counting Max and Alya, but that the Himba Black Cat's superhero design is a black lion, instead of someone whose attire evokes a black lion...) I'm pretty sure I've also seen reason to believe there's something Off about giving the only Vietnamese character the Monkey Miraculous, but I'm drawing a blank on what the reason is.
And Tomoe's only character traits that aren't "she's Japanese" are "she's rich", "she's blind", "she's abusive", and "she's working with Monarch".
Kagami wears a school uniform at all times, even if its just an issue with the model she could just wear different clothes. She has never even mentioned going to school.
Two of her akumas are based on onii-chan and hikikomori, which is just more references that she's Japanese.
Tomoe uses a shinai as a walking cane, which is absurd for multiple reasons.
Tomoe is a blind samurai which is another reference.
Tomoe wears hakama pants with an obi, which is her only outfit.
Kinda feels like we're well past teetering the line.
I don't really have a problem with this? It makes sense that Kagami and Tomoe would wear more traditionally Japanese garb, they just moved from Japan this school year, and I'm not even sure whether they're planning on sticking around or not. Likewise, their akumas having Japanese-ish names makes sense, seeing as that would logically be their native language, unless there's something weird in their backstories that we don't know about yet. The shinai as a walking cane thing is impractical, but makes sense for Tomoe's character.
I don't think just "these characters who are Japanese and just came from Japan wear Japanese clothing and have Japanese akuma names" is an issue.
If the show was mocking them for their Japanese aspects and wasn't using that as some sort of storyline showing why that's a bad thing to do, then that would be different. As it is, it seems to be well-intentioned and I quite like it, personally.

Miraculous Ladybug Theory
One thing that always confused me in ML was ladybug's 'de-evilization' ability and how specific it seemed to be to Hawk Moth(like her yo-yo is the perfect size for the moths). It got me thinking, since there aren't many things that could fit inside her yo-yo, is it possible that the moth miraculous has basically always been the go to villain miraculous? Nah, that's would be incredibly lazy writing. Maybe there's something else. Something that requires purification the size of a moth that isn't a miraculous. Maybe there were anti-miraculous weapons/tools created, guarded and distributed by a separate group of devotees. Or maybe(and this is the one that makes most sense to me and I like the most), the ladybug miraculous changes. Like, it adapts to gain a solution to a current problem (which isn't too hard to believe considering the ability, lucky charm).
In conclusion, Ladybug's 'de-evilization' ability is likely a new one specifically designed for Hawk Moth's Akuma's.
Side note: did you know all previous ladybugs used a yo-yo as a weapon? Like seriously, what the fudge? Are you telling me that the first ladybug used an invention that was invented over 2500(at least) years later? Why do you do this to me? It holds the power of creation, why the fudge is it only the outfit that changes and not the weapon to a tool that the current user would be familiar with using(you wouldn't give a fencer a bow and arrow and expect them to be happy about it).

I’m still brain storming on how everything is actually going to function in my ML fic (once I get the play by play down then the actual writing process will prob take no time) but I’m really excited since I’m going to be featuring Ladybug meeting some past holders!! I want to keep it to a minimum of 3-4 meetings (maybe I’ll do some bonus chapters with other holder interactions outside of the main events) but I want opinions!!
Which past LB miraculous holders do you guys love the most? I’m currently thinking I may add in Jeanne D’arc, Pian Dao, Hippolyta, and Mudekudeku! Is there any that you REALLY wanna see or ones you think may be more relevant than those four? Please comment or send me an ask so I can know your thoughts!

Submitted prompt: (untitled 5)
My only suggestion would be adding more male Ladybug holders, more female Black Cat holders, and nonbinary holders for both :)
After a while, Miraculous holders can speak with the spirits of past holders of that Miraculous.
Marinette gets the sympathy and support she needs from past Ladybugs.
First there's Bọ Rùa, who had to deal with her own fair share of racist and racist-enabling Frenchmen who wanted to date Asian women but didn't want to respect them.
Then there's Tentomushi, who has zero tolerance for rudeness and people who abuse their positions of power to inflict their will on others and saw a lot of that among men of wealth in her era.
Finally, Mudekudeku's Black Cat Miraculous Holder was in love with her, but he stopped flirting when he realized she wasn't interested and even supported her at her wedding, so she's advocating for getting the Black Cat Miraculous to someone deserving, rather than letting Adrien keep it.
Adrien, meanwhile, is getting dragged by past Black Cat Miraculous holders.
First there's Huyền Con Mèo, a mixed race French-Vietnamese Black Cat Miraculous holder who considers Adrien an embarrassment to all Frenchmen and proof chivalry is dead and buried. "You are every stereotype of a horny Frenchmen in existence simultaneously! Stop it! For God's sake, man, get it together!"
Then there's Toraokuro, who is absolutely furious that someone is taking this amazing power that could be used to help others, help the people of the city and those suffering under unjust systems, and is instead using it to play around and harass others like an entitled ten year old.
And finally there's Pakamali, who, like Mudekudeku, lived to be old enough to be married and have kids, and subsequently has an adult's take on superheroism, power and responsibility, and is furious with how Adrien's been acting. "I was in love with my Ladybug too - and you know what I did when she fell in love with someone else? I moved on with my life. Do you know why? Because she was happier with someone else. If you actually love someone, you don't view yourself as the only option for them! This isn't about true love, it's about you being selfish!"
By the time they're down having talks with their respective predecessors, Ladybug is feeling completely validated in her feelings, confident and ready to punch Chat Noir in the face.
The question now is, what is he like, after a night of being berated by the ghosts of literal superheroes? Does this, finally, get through to him? If he doesn't change, does Ladybug act on the advice of Ladybugs past and take his Miraculous from him?

Okay so re: the African Ladybug! This one actually seems like some genuine culture stuff! The Himba in Namibia use red clay/mud called otjize on their skin and hair to protect them from the harsh desert. If you look at images of the women, they look almost exactly like Mudekudeku, minus the black spots making the Ladybug pattern.
That said. Though it does have some basis in reality and culture, I think they could do more on how it's presented and go into it a little bit. Maybe we could get an episode about the previous Heroes and their cultures.
Ohhh!!!!! I see!!!! Okay so i was wondering about the thing, good to know about that. Thanks dude

Past Ladybug Lore
Absolutely obsessed with the idea of previous miraculous holders. All this and more can be found on the fandom wiki page
 https://miraculousladybug.fandom.com/wiki/Ladybug_Miraculous
Tumblr media
The lady in the spell book is Piáo Chóng  and is the first and oldest reference to Miraculous holders. She dates to around  5,000 years ago.
Tumblr media
La Déesse Coccinelle  was an Egyptian woman around 5,000 years ago. She was a past Miraculous holder, wielding the Ladybug Miraculous and transforming into Ladybug when Tikki inhabited them. She stopped King Tutankhamun I from sacrificing an innocent woman in order to resurrect his deceased wife, Princess Nefertiti. A depiction of her as a hieroglyph on a papyrus appears in the Louvre.
As depicted in the hieroglyph, to transform, she owned the Ladybug Miraculous. She also wore a kalarisis with spots on the fabric and pasium around her neck as well as an Egyptian wig.
In the drawing by Feri González, she is referred to as the Oracle of Khepri, the Egyptian God of Creation, the movement of the Sun, and Rebirth.
Tumblr media
Hippolyta is the mythical Amazonia Queen and confirmed Ladybug. Dates to around 3,000 to 2,000 years ago. She is the first ladybug who was royalty.
Tumblr media
Tentomushi was a Japanese kunoichi in federal Japan. She wore a haori with stitching near the sleeve hems and hakama, along with the Ladybug earrings. Underneath her haori, she wore a sarashi while holding a tessen in her hand and a naginata on her back.
She was friends with  Sasuke Sarutobi a past holder of the Monkey Miraculous.
Tumblr media
Micazoyolin was an Aztec warrior who lived 700 years ago. Was seemingly the first male Ladybug later followed by Adrien Agreste as ‘Mister Bug’
Tumblr media
Jeanne d'Arc, also known as Joan of Arc, (January 6, 1412 - May 30, 1431)[1] was a French warrior and lived approximately, 600 years ago. She helped put Charles VII on the French throne during the Hundred Years' War.
Tumblr media
Mudekudeku was an OmuHimba girl 500 years ago. Mudekudeku wore a traditional calfskin skirt and jewelry that depicts her social status. On her ankles were jewelry that protected her against venomous animals. Because her entire body was red with black spots, indicating the area protected by the Ladybug Miraculous — which she used to transform — it can be assumed that the magic acted like otjize paste. She had several otjize hair plaits.
Tumblr media
La Coccinelle was a French musketeer who lived somewhere around approximately 200 to 400 years ago. She was a musketeer and that her second weapon was a rapier, which suggests that La Coccinelle had excellent swordsmanship skills and was good at dual-wielding.
Tumblr media
La Mariquita and she is from Mexico 200 years ago.  According to Feri González, La Mariquita was born a mestiza (one of her parents was indigenous Mexican while the other was Spaniard) during the times of the Spaniard rule in Mexico. She is the second known person of Mexican origin to wield the Ladybug Miraculous, succeeding Micazoyolin. She also fought in the Mexican War of Independence. Her superhero name is a reference to the spanish song La Mariquita.
Before the destruction of the Order of the Guardians she and Bo rua were the last of Ladybugs before Marinette.
Tumblr media
Bọ rùa was a Vietnamese girl who dates to a 100 years ago. Her áo dài included a red tunic with black dots and black edges on the sleeves, collar, and flaps. The front flap of the tunic over the chest features designs of black curls connected to the black edges and a white flower button with a black center over it. Also, she wore black trousers and black shoes.

thoughts about mayura and the broken miraculous
did anyone notice that mayura is the only miraculous holder when transformated that undergoes a skin pigmentation change?
like NONE of the other miraculous holders we've seen, even the temporary ones, have been like this. all they've had is suits and maybe hair/eye changes (e.g. cat!marinette's eyes being green, pupils to slits, and her hair being lengthened like a tail).
so why does mayura's skin change?
it’s a side effect of the miraculous being broken.
since kwamis are supposed to be like gods of the universe and have magnificent powers and stuff, it seems like giving that to a human can be harmful because their bodies aren't equipped to handle that power. so maybe the miraculous itself restricts the kwami's power only to create a protective force for the user (the suit) and a conduit to summon the gift of the kwami (the ability).
but in mayura's case, her kwami's power is leaking out and onto her, giving her that blue skin just like duusu.
maybe it was a similar situation for mudekudeku, the omuhimba ladybug, who had red and black covering her whole body. maybe gabriel is also looking into the history of the miraculous for this reason, because emilie contracted the same illness from using the peacock miraculous and he wants to cure her and fix the miraculous.
and a stretch, but maybe this is the same premise for the curse on félix from the pv days. his ring was broken in some aspect and his probability in bad luck increased. but the ring wasn't damaged enough for it to cause him illness.
or maybe not.

Past Ladybugs
A List w details (Pictures in Same Order)
Jeanne d’Arc
The Martyr
Robert de Baudricourt granted Joan an escort to visit Chinon after news from Orleans confirmed her assertion of the defeat. She made the journey through hostile Burgundian territory disguised as a male soldier, a fact which would later lead to charges of "cross-dressing" against her, although her escort viewed it as a normal precaution. Two of the members of her escort said they and the people of Vaucouleurs provided her with this clothing, and had suggested it to her.
After years of one humiliating defeat after another, both the military and civil leadership of France were demoralized and discredited. When the Dauphin Charles granted Joan's urgent request to be equipped for war and placed at the head of his army, his decision must have been based in large part on the knowledge that every orthodox, every rational option had been tried and had failed. Only a regime in the final straits of desperation would pay any heed to an illiterate farm girl who claimed that the voice of God was instructing her to take charge of her country's army and lead it to victory.
However, his decision to exclude her did not prevent her presence at most councils and battles. The extent of her actual military participation and leadership is a subject of debate among historians. On the one hand, Joan stated that she carried her banner in battle and had never killed anyone, preferring her banner "forty times" better than a sword; and the army was always directly commanded by a nobleman, such as the Duke of Alençon for example. On the other hand, many of these same noblemen stated that Joan had a profound effect on their decisions since they often accepted the advice she gave them, believing her advice was divinely inspired.

Ladybug- Son of Man
You ask, I deliver. Btw, anyone that wants to make an animatic of this go right ahead. Seriously, I want this to be an animatic.
(Dark screen, then the Ladybug Miraculous appear. The screen brightens up to show the Miraculous in Piao Chong’s hand. Piao stares at them curiously, then looks determined as she lowers her hand. Camera rotates behind her as she changes to her Ladybug suit.)
Oh, the power to be strong (Shot of Piao Chong blocking an attack to protect a civilian. We can see she’s putting all of her strength into it.) And the wisdom to be wise (Scene change to Piao Chong meditating.) All these things will Come to you in time (Piao opens her eyes a little as a butterfly lands on her hand.) On this journey that you're making (Scene change to Oracle of Khepri sitting cross-legged on the ground and analyzing multiple scrolls. She is searching for a plan to defeat the Pharoah.) There'll be answers that you'll seek And it's you who'll climb the mountain (Scene change of the Oracle defeating the Pharoah. The force of the blast knocks her down.) It's you who'll reach the peak (Realising he’s vanquished, she gives a relieved and tired smile.)
Son of man, look to the sky (As she gets up, the scene changes to Hippolyta. Hippolyta smirks as she charges into battle with her Amazons.) Lift your spirit, set it free (Scene change to Mudekudeku running across the savanna.) Some day you'll walk tall with pride (Split screen of Piao Chong, the Oracle, Hippolyta, and Mudekudeku standing tall and proud.) Son of man, a man in time you'll be (The camera moves up to Mudekudeku. The camera moves up to the sun. The sun changes into a hat. The hat soon falls down as the camera tracks its movement.)
Though there's no one there to guide you (A hand catches the hat. The camera zooms out to reveal Bo Rua. She smiles at the camera and puts her hat back on.) No one to take your hand (She unsheathes her yoyo and twirls around. As it lengthens, the yoyo covers the screen for a split second.) But with faith and understanding (As the yoyo moves off the screen, the camera shows a young Joan from behind in the distance praying in a field overlooking the countryside.) You will journey from boy to man (The camera rotates and zooms in until we just see her face. She opens her eyes and the camera zooms back out. We see her donned in her Ladybug armor. She raises her sword and leads her troops to attack Orleans.)
Son of man, look to the sky (Shot of Joan running from the side. Scene change to Micazoyolin running in the other direction.) Lift your spirit, set it free Some day you'll walk tall with pride Son of man, a man in time you'll be (Micazoyolin swings through the jungles. He somersaults through the air and past the sun.)
(The sun shifts to the moon. Tentomushi lands and leaps across the rooftops of Japan.)
In learning you will teach (Tentomushi spars with Kuro Neko. Tentomushi spins to dodge an attack and covers the camera for a brief second.) And in teaching you will learn (As Tentomushi moves past, it changes to La Mariquita dance-fighting some thugs in an alley.) You'll find your place beside the Ones you love (La Mariquita smirks as she makes a web with her yoyo and traps the thugs in it. She smirks even wider as they try to reach her and fail.) Oh, and all the things you dreamed of (Scene change to a blue eye.) The visions that you saw (In the pupil, you see a shape that looks like a guillotine.) Well, the time is drawing near now (The camera zooms out to reveal La Coccinelle standing on top of a barricade. She smiles confidently and draws her sword, leading the rebels into battle.) It's yours to claim in all (La Coccinelle unsheathes her yoyo and swings off the barricade.)
Son of man, look to the sky (Scene change to present day. All the past Ladybugs are racing each other across the Paris rooftops.)
Lift your spirit, set it free
Some day you'll walk tall with pride
Son of man, a man in time you'll be
(They stop and start to look for someone. A shadow passes over them. They all smile as they look up and begin to follow it.)
(A familiar Ladybug-print suit is seen from the waist down as a young superhero runs across a rooftop, occasionally leaping to avoid chimneys.)
Son of man, Son of man's a man for all to see (The hero stops running as they reach the edge of the rooftop. The camera rotates to the front and moves up. Ladybug is revealed, smiling in awe. The other Ladybugs are right behind her, smiling proudly at the young hero.)

Note
"Son of Man" and "He Lives in You" could be great for Miraculous animatics, especially in a comparison between the modern Miraculous Heroes (LB & Co.) and the ancient Miraculous Heroes (like Mudekudeku, to stay in tune with the "tribal" theme of the songs). These songs could be representing their kwamis' POV, who encourage and guide their human partners as they see the similarities with their respective former pupils...
I love this idea so much! Gave me Past!Ladybug Connecting with Marinette AU vibes. I have a thing for animatics for years now (From Heather to Waitress to Hamiltion and etc.) so thinking about this made me draw up some thumbnails with descriptions (below are some of my drawings, not all- cuz they are really rough sketches), action shots, concepts and a ½ of a cover. I even made a little script on how everything would play out for both of the songs. I’ll post it if anyone is interested. I even check out “Here Comes a Thought” from Steven Universe and thought of a pre/post-reveal scenario when it came up on my feed. Cuz you know butterflies=Akumas.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(If you can guess what scene this is- thank you)
I was doing all of this, ignoring my responsivities and my essay. All before it hit me. . . .
I can’t know how to animate anything.
So everything I did was in vain. (I’m learning tho)
BUT THIS CAN’T BE ANY IDEA THAT GOES DOWN! I have seen other blogs getting this ask so hopefully, someone can take up the challenge to animate this idea. If someone does, DM me cuz I will support and love you the whole way.
Thanks for the ask.
