The Lord of the Rings Trilogy ☀︎︎

I started my journey with watching the Lotr trilogy in 2021. Prior to that time, I had only seen glimpses of movies and heard about the franchise through various pop culture references. The only characters I knew were Gandalf, Gollum and Frodo. Hell, as a kid I thought Gandalf and Dumbledore were either brothers or the same person. 🤣

I didn't really grow up with the movies. I refused watch them because they were so long. But now my adult neurodivergent brain loves long youtube videos and movies. So at the behest of my bestie and curiosity, I watched them. And I absolutely adore the movies. The pacing, acting, music and cinematography made the hours go by in a breeze. Since then I've re-watched the trilogy several times (extended edition only in this house!), and I catch little details I didn't notice before. Needless to say the lotr films had me in a grip!

The Hobbit Trilogy ♥︎

The same bestie told me about the hobbit trilogy and suggested I watch it next. At the time I wasn't interested in the hobbit films because I thought they were unrelated to the Lotr trilogy! 😅

I hadn't read the books at all so I wasn't familiar with the timeline and I remember seeing some harsh criticism of the movies. It kinda deterred me. In December 2024 after yet another lotr marathon I randomly watched the hobbit trilogy. Maaaan I fell in love every character (especially all of dwarves and Bilbo) and cried during The Battle of the Five Armies. Watching the hobbit trilogy altered my brain chemistry! I jumped headfirst into the lotr/hobbit fandom shortly after that.

The Silmarillion|The Hobbit|Lotr Books ☾︎

Okay so at this point I haven't read any of the books. I attempted to read the Fellowship in 8th grade but it seemed sooo dry to me. My 14 year old brain shutdown and I returned it to the library ASAP!! 🏃🏾‍♀️‍➡️

After that experience I actively avoided reading the books. But as an adult I felt differently. After diving into the various wikis and reading some of the amazing works of writers on Tumblr, I realized I was missing out on so much by not reading the books. At first I was going to start with the lotr trilogy but my ocd would not allow me to read Tolkien's works out of order😭

So I decided to decided to purchase The Hobbit and then eventually order the lotr trilogy...but then I found out the Silmarillion existed. So I decided to order just the Silmarillion and The Hobbit. I got them both for under $10 from ebay in pretty good condition.

I've seen some people report the Silmarillion as a difficult read and comparing it to the Bible or a an ancient nanuscript. As a former religious studies student, I was ready to take on the challenge, and honestly it does read like a bible. I'm actually enjoying it. I love lore, details and world building. Plus I enjoy "studying" it as I read. ldk maybe my brain is weird like that.

I'm not yet finished with the Silmarillion nor have I gotten to any of Tolkien's other works. This where I am currently in my Tolkienverse journey. I'Il update here once I finish the Silmarillion. Thank you for reading my rambling post, especially if you made it this far. ☽︎♡︎☾︎

Ashaf as a First Class Mage

One thing I absolutely love about Ashaf's character is that it takes for the plot to move on a bit for readers to notice that, like Guideau, he's also high game.

That's done very smoothly and efficiently, because the story at first naturally tends to focus on introducing Guideau as a monstrous force to be reckoned with. So during the first arcs, Ashaf is often "reduced" as their supervision and support. But the more the plot moves on, the more we realize Ashaf is even more mysterious than Guideau and might as well be considered as dangerous.

Finally, in the on-going arc (spoilers+++), we're introduced to the summoning of Dragons (plz that scene was absolutely epic) being one of the highest feats of magic...

...and they speak of "only one person who managed to summon an entire Dragon in history".

Later, in the latest published chapters, we're also introduced to the concept of Witche's Disciples through 2 new characters...

and Ashaf is once more rudely looked down upon by another magic user (Dunward was also hella rude during Orlencia Sett), which leads him to say this :

So now I ask you : could it be that Ashaf, the first class mage with many animal familiars, is the one man who once managed to summon an entire Dragon ? Considering I also believe it's not far-fetched that Ashaf may know Angela from a time long past, I wouldn't be very surprised if it was the case (maybe he too received a Witch's favor). :D

Anyway, while we wait for the answer, I gotta show you Ashaf brilliantly beating that fake dragon's ass in a very classy and satisfying way ! :D

It was so not a challenge to him that he managed, mid-fight, to send crows to deliver Guideau's coffin (that lil exchange made me smile a lot xD)

TL;DR let's all agree to stop underestimating Ashaf. x) He's not Guideau's partner just because they randomly met 3 years ago.
