hot stuff
@steddiemicrofic prompt: stuff, 483 words rated: t | cw: none | tags: pre-relationship, steve has a crush, he blurts it out while helping eddie pack to move to his new trailer
***
Steve shoves another DnD handbook into one of the boxes scattered around Eddie’s room. “Dude, why do you have so much stuff?”
Across the room, Eddie snorts. “Excuse me for wanting my bedroom to have some personality, Mr. Plaid-Wallpaper.”
Steve rolls his eyes, putting away some sketchbooks next. His eyes catch something else on Eddie’s desk. “This doesn’t match your personality. You hate sports,” Steve bitches, one hand on his hip, the other holding the basketball.
“Oh, that’s not mine.” Eddie smirks. “I stole it from some jocks.”
“You stole- a basketball?”
The smirk turns into a grin. “Assholes thought it’d be funny to hit the freak, so when they did, I grabbed it and ran like hell.”
A startled laugh leaves Steve’s lips when he pictures Eddie fleeing with a basketball in his arms, flipping off the assholes that he stole it from.
Then he frowns.
“I wasn’t one of them, right?” He doesn’t remember it, but he tries not to think about that time too much.
Eddie’s eyes soften. “No, Stevie. You were never a dick to me, we never really crossed paths.”
“I wish we had,” Steve says. It’s not the first time he’s thought about it. Since meeting Eddie, he often wishes it happened sooner.
“You really think we would’ve been friends? The King and the Freak?”
“We’re friends now,” Steve shrugs.
“After a damn apocalypse! Besides, you’re different now. King Steve wouldn’t be caught dead with me. I was a loser.”
Steve sniggers. “Was?”
“Fuck you,” Eddie squawks, throwing some socks at Steve’s head- and missing.
Steve throws them back, hitting him on the forehead. “You’re supposed to be packing those!”
Eddie sticks his tongue out. “What I meant is- I looked like a loser.”
Steve thinks of the photo he packed earlier while helping pack Wayne’s things- the one of Eddie with a buzz cut, drowning in Wayne’s hand-me-downs, no tattoos or rings. So different from the guy in front of him.
“Now though, I look cool,” Eddie waggles his eyebrows.
“Nah, man. Now you look hot,” Steve blurts out.
He panics when Eddie’s jaw drops and he gapes at Steve, but he doesn’t look upset, just shocked- and a little hopeful.
The door opens then and Robin pops her head in, glaring at the empty boxes. “You dinguses aren’t done yet? We finished packing all of Wayne’s mugs and there’s dozens of them! I’m getting Nance!” She huffs and leaves.
Steve grimaces. “We should get to work before Nancy comes. But, um, wanna ditch the girls after and hang out?”
When Eddie shakes his head, Steve backtracks. “Unless you don’t want-”
Eddie shakes his head even harder at that. “Like fuck if I don’t.” He grins. “Get to work, big boy, then you can tell me how hot you find me and we can kiss about it.”
They finish packing everything in record time after that.

mrs magic — wade wilson x reader (1.1k)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
warnings: sorta deadpool & wolverine spoilers, wade jokingly calls reader ‘pookie’ and ‘shnookums,’ cussing, mention of blood, slightly suggestive, not proofread
summary: wade talks to reader while she’s in the shower about his latest adventure with the wolverine.
authors note: i love wade sm!! also i don’t have any photos of him w his mask off because when i search deadpool no mask on pinterest it gives a warning. heavily inspired by shower talk by @eternalsunrise . check out their oneshot, it’s super good! sorry if this is dogshit
Tumblr media
soft droplets of water rain down onto the shower floor. hot water runs down your body, and soap foams on your arms. your hair quickly becomes drenched in water, becoming as straight as it can be.
you hold a bar of shampoo under the water and rub it, soap foaming on your hands. you scrunch it into the hair on your scalp, careful not to shampoo the hanging hair. as you grab your scalp scrubber, you hear shouts of your name.
“y/n? pookie? shnookums?” you recognize the voice as wade. “i brought someone home!” he exclaimed.
“i’m in the shower, wade!” you yell, ready to see him barging into the bathroom.
you pause when you hear two pairs of footsteps, only being used to one pair. you then remember wade said he brought another person with him, so he must trust them. you continue scrubbing your scalp.
the door swings open, revealing your bloody boyfriend in his iconic deadpool suit.
“oh, i have so much to tell you!” he exclaims, nearly ripping his mask off.
he keeps the door cracked open, something you previously asked him to do so the mirror wouldn’t fog up as much. he dramatically sits down on the toilet, tilting his head back.
“what happened, wade?” you ask, looking to your right to see a big, red blob sitting on the toilet.
“so, basically. wolverine is here! i got taken in by the TVA people, like how you did a few months ago, and i got into this huge argument with this one guy, i forgot his name. anyway, he tricked me and i traveled through different timelines to find another logan because, you know, ours is dead and we needed one to keep our timeline stable—“ he rambles.
you ask a question, “wait, logan was the one keeping our timeline stable? god damn it, why did that bitch have to die?”
you smile at his hands flailing around, animating his every word, he continues, “no idea! but i used his bones to kill off like, 100 guards from the TVA! it was so cool, you should’ve been there! anyway, i got another logan, who was supposed to help me out and save our timeline. but mother of asshole, he’s an asshole! fucking grumpy all the damn time, wanted me to shut up, and never talk! but i think we’re friends—“
you interrupt, “wade, sweetheart, you’re getting off track.” remembering to remind him when it happens, something he’s asked you to do in the past.
“oh, right! thanks! anyway, the logan i took got us stuck in this void thing. he kept stabbing me repeatedly like it was my fault! yeah, i did get us stabbed with this stick thing that sent us there, but whatever.” he continues talking as you rinse out the shampoo in your hair and add the conditioner.
you listen as your boyfriend talks about his mission. his voice never falters, you know how important the story must mean to him. he’s always focused when he tells a story, though he does get off track sometimes, he’s always excited to talk about his journeys.
he talks about how he ran into 100 more deadpools, and how he brought a dog home too, who happens to be a variant of him. as he’s talked shit about the honda odyssey before, he talks about how he and logan fought each other for hours in there. both of them were later taken to a hideout with four other superheroes.
one of them was laura, x-23, someone who people had considered as logan’s daughter. she had regenerative healing and adamantium claws, like logan. another was blade, a half-vampire, and half-human who was an evil vampire hunter, but would have to drink blood or else he'd die. elektra was a skilled assassin with superhuman abilities, and a master of many fighting skills like martial arts, gymnastics, and ninjitsu. wade claimed she had many weapons on hand. remy, who people knew as gambit, was an interesting man with an interesting cajun accent. he was a man who loved his liquor for himself and could control kinetic energy, skilled with cards and making them ‘go boom,’ as wade claims.
he continues talking even as the water stops running down your face. as you turn the water off and slide open the shower door with a towel around your body, he keeps talking. he then pauses to look at your body standing next to his sitting one.
“you are the most beautiful woman i’ve ever seen, man!” he chuckles and shakes his head.
he stands up and hugs your head, having taken his bloody suit off, though not replacing it. he sways you back and forth with his body, causing you to cling to him as well.
“i’ll introduce you to peanut. he’s kind of rude though, so don’t mind him. ooh, i’ll bring you some clothes!” he quickly switches topics and runs out of the bathroom, leaving you alone in your towel.
he returns with a shirt, shorts, and underwear in a messy pile. he lays them on the counter and sits down on the toilet, kicking his feet although it’s difficult for him to.
you take the towel off, putting on your underwear first, and earning a light spank from your boyfriend.
you squeal, “hey!” and swat his hand away.
“sorry, couldn’t help it!” wade replies.
he stands up from the seat and walks towards you, smiling at you as you cover your breasts. you sheepishly smile up at him, he leans down and places his lips against yours.
you continue to cover your chest with one arm, using the other to bring wade in closer.
he keeps pulling your lips back to his whenever you try to pull away for air. the kiss is filled with passion, intimacy, and love, though different from your past kisses. this one is different, there’s more to it than you think.
the two of you eventually pull back, your hand still placed on his chest. the two of you stare at each other for a moment, as if your eyes are shaped like hearts.
“i love you, wade.” you smile, rubbing your thumb on his chest.
his eyes squint as he giggles, “i love you too!” and traps you in a warm embrace, arms around your waist.
“now tell me more about your mission,” you add, wade immediately returns to ranting.

A request for Miguel O’hara x reader with this photo (the famous spiderman kiss) 🙏please
𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝
Tumblr media
Pairing: Miguel O'Hara x Reader
Summary: The base is quiet, so you mess around with Miguel a bit :3
Warnings: None! Just silly little shenanigans, haha.
Some days at the Spider Society it was just quiet. No major missions happening, no drama, just pure utter boredom.
So what better way to relieve that boredom than going to harass Miguel?
You sneakily slip into the monitoring room, not making a single sound. The good thing about Miguel is that he didn’t have that spider sense that all the other spiders had (though you had to admit his senses were still far superior), so if you tried really hard, then you could slip by undetected.
Lyla seems to take note of you though, glancing in your direction but instead waiting to see how everything would play out.
Slowly you begin to scale the walls, climbing up to the ceiling with ease until you’re right overtop of Miguel where he stood watching his screens.
Shooting out a web, you let it stick to the ceiling before making your descent, dropping down like those spiders you spot right in front of your face as you lie in bed.
A devious look rests on your face as you became eye level with Miguel, though he couldn’t tell with your mask on.
Lyla only snorted as she watched, before throwing up a peace sign and disappearing.
“Hey, how’s it going?” you say with a giggle.
“Sweetheart…what are you doing,” he sighs, glancing away from the screens to look at you. He can’t help the smile on his face though.
“Oh, you know, just hanging around,” you snicker at yourself, “you know the deal.”
“Hanging around, huh?” he says, before slinging one of his own webs onto the ceiling much to your surprise. Now both of you were hanging upside down, eye level with each other.
“Not very comfortable, is it?” he asks.
“Eh, it's fun though,” you reply, and he only hums before wrapping the web around his ankles, releasing it from his wrists.
“What are you-” you begin, but he cuts you off as he slips the bottom part of your mask off, grasping both your cheeks with his hands as he presses his lips to yours.
“Oh,” you whisper, grinning goofily at him. “Missed me, hm~?” He only huffs out a little laugh.
“Shut up,” he says, pressing his lips to yours once more.
A/N: Just a lil something, short and sweet. Thank you for requesting!!
Taglist: @beiroviski, @scaraza, @blueoorchid, @remuslupinwifee, @phobia0325, @local-mr-frog, @johfaam0, @raweggohan, @honeycriess, @alexenoirex

Hard & Soft: An Explanation of Light
I was watching a video from one of my favorite tech YouTubers, Mr. Whose the Boss. He was showing off some of his favorite tech and pulled out this tiny LED light.
Tumblr media
And then he placed a diffuser on the front and said this...
Tumblr media
"You can equip a softbox on the front which *massively* softens the light on your face."
Sorry, Arun.
No it doesn't.
I sometimes wish I could get a job as a YouTube lighting advisor. So many creators have to set up and use professional lighting but very few actually have an understanding of how their lighting works. And with just a little knowledge they could up their lighting game big time.
If nothing else, I could stop the plague of ring lights.
Ring lights are my nemesis.
*shakes fist at ring lights*
Arun repeated a classic myth. Diffusing a light does *not* make it softer. And despite the name, a softbox is fully capable of producing hard light. Especially if it is only the size of your granddad's wallet.
I'm afraid softboxes are a bit misnamed—much like how the tremolo system on a guitar is technically a vibrato mechanism. Tremolo is a fluctuation of volume, not pitch. Personally, I just stick to calling it a whammy bar because that is more fun anyway. And, like, what does "whammy" even mean in the context of a guitar? I'd rather call something by a nonsensical name than an inaccurate one, ya know?
What the hell was I saying?
SOFTBOXES!
They should probably be called "light homogenizers." Which is a mouthful, but more accurate.
Or, hear me out... WHAMMY BOXES.
Froggie Note: I am trying a color coding technique to help make the most important information stand out. Red means PAY ATTENTION and blue means "do your best to remember this." Let me know if this is helpful or annoying or if a different color combo is preferred.
Hard Light vs. Soft Light
Hard light is a less flattering light source that creates high contrast, sharp shadows, and accentuates texture.
Soft light is a more flattering light source that creates soft shadows and reduces texture like pores, blemishes, and wrinkles.
You can *only* get hard or soft light by changing the apparent size of a light source from the subject's point of view.
If you remember only three things about light, they should be...
Bright light = sharp photos, less noise Hard light = small light source Soft light = large light source
Tumblr media
Now, it's important to remember that hard light is not *bad* and soft light is not *good*. In photography, the oft-used parlance "flattering" just refers to the rendering of facial features and blemishes. So you might use a more flattering lens to make sure faces do not distort or a more flattering light modifier to reduce wrinkles.
But there are situations where soft light can be very boring and hard light can be much more dynamic and interesting. But if you have someone who is insecure about their skin or has a lot of blemishes, you can mitigate that by making the light softer. But if you have someone with great skin and a lot of angular facial features, you might use a hard light to show that off.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which of these do you prefer?
The one on the left was taken with a 7 foot diameter light source and is *very* soft. But the other had a 1 foot diameter and I think it is more dynamic and interesting.
You can also mix hard and soft light. And with something like a parabolic reflector or a beauty dish, you can even modify a light source to be hard and soft at the same time.
Tumblr media
This technological terror of a light modifier is sort of like having 24 individual small lights around the edges but the entire surface of the reflector also acts as a single large light source.
And when it isn't atomizing Alderaan, it is taking photos like this...
Tumblr media
This creates a falloff of light around the edges of her face, nose, and arms while also reducing the intensity of the shadows. Lenses with longer focal lengths prevent distortion of facial features but also flatten our faces. So a modifier like this can bring back dimensionality.
Neat!
Now I just need $8,000 to buy the Death Star light.
There are a ton of possibilities when it comes to modifying light sources, but most people typically want the main light on the subject to be in the realm of soft and use hard light sources as edge lights.
Tumblr media
Also, everything is a spectrum and light is no different. There is a giant space in between hard and soft to play with. In fact, the hardest light possible would be cast on a subject floating in space.
And the softest light possible would be on a planet that has 100% cloud coverage that still allows sunlight to scatter through.
So, I have determined the surface of Venus to be the most flattering light in the universe.
Tumblr media
Look at how dark and sharp that astronaut shadow is! And I'm sure Venusian photography would be quite popular if you wouldn't burst into flames.
On planet Earth, noon on a clear day would be the hardest light and a very overcast day would be the softest light.
Tumblr media
How can the sun be both hard and soft light?
Well, the sun is quite large, but it is very small in the sky and very far away. It is the only thing humans can observe that is close to a "point" light source—the smallest light source possible that shines light equally in all directions.
But on an overcast day, sunlight scatters through all of the clouds and becomes a HUGE homogenous light source. The clouds become a singular giant light above us. And as you can see, the light is so soft the woman does not have a hint of shadow on her face. And shadows can draw attention to pores, wrinkles, blemishes, and other textures.
But wouldn't the smallest light source be a laser or something?
When photographers refer to a small light source we mean from the perspective of the subject being lit. This is referred to as apparent or angular size.
Tumblr media
But you also have to account for the size of the area the light source can illuminate.
This is the area a laser can light up.
Tumblr media
And this is the area the sun is able to cats cast light upon.
Tumblr media
It doesn't matter if a laser is close or far away, it focuses light onto a very small area. But the sun lights up half the planet. So look at imagine the apparent size of the sun in the sky and compare its size to half of the Earth. In that relative circumstance, the sun is a super tiny light source.
And the sun becomes an even tinier light source on the moon because there is no atmosphere or clouds to scatter and enlarge it.
You can change the apparent size of a light source in two ways...
The physical dimensions of the light and the distance from the subject.
A light with small dimensions can be a large light source if it is close enough and if the subject is small enough. So a flashlight could be a large light source for an ant if that flashlight is directly next to said ant. But a flashlight could never be a large light source to a human.
However, we can enlarge small light sources with modifiers.
A modifier can be a softbox. It can be a piece of paper. A large poster board. A wall or a ceiling. Anything that changes the nature of a light source can be a modifier. But not all modifiers increase the size of a light source.
So, you can take that flashlight, shine it on a wall, and reflect the light to make a giant light source capable of producing softer light.
But what you cannot do is put diffusion material directly in front of a flashlight and make the light it produces softer.
When Arun put that diffuser on the front of that tiny light, he was not making the light any bigger. He was only making the light more diffused.
What does diffusion *actually* do?
Diffusion scatters light. It makes light bounce in all directions and keeps it from being focused. And while this is an important aspect to making a light source larger, it does not change the apparent size of a light source on its own.
Diffused light is homogenous.
A homogenous light source has the same intensity across its entire surface area. And that homogenization is the key to creating a better soft light source. It can *assist* in making a light source larger, but only if you know how to wield that diffusion properly.
When you shine a flashlight toward a wall, you increase the apparent size of the light source.
Fantastic! You now have a softer light. Mission accomplished.
But if you do not diffuse it, you will create a hotspot.
Tumblr media
That bright hotspot will reflect more light than all of the other light reflecting off the wall. That reflected light has different intensities across its surface area and you end up creating TWO distinct light sources—one hard and one soft.
Tumblr media
This can sometimes be desired if you want to create graduated light that falls off like I showed earlier. But if it is not controlled well with a specialized modifier a hotspot can cause more problems than benefits.
This can reveal unwanted texture, double shadows, cause harsh glare, and it may not achieve the desired amount of soft, flattering light you were hoping for.
However, if you diffuse the light from the flashlight before it hits the wall, the light will scatter and reflect off the wall more evenly. You will create a more *homogenous* light source that acts as a single entity of light.
Tumblr media
Diffusion does reduce the overall intensity of the light, but that is usually a worthy trade off for the increased homogeny.
These pesky hotspots are actually a big problem with those cheap softboxes you can buy off Amazon.
Tumblr media
Many of them do not have enough diffusion to create a single homogenous light source. So they end up with a hotspot that gives you that double light source effect.
I was able to fix this with my friend Katrina's softbox by adding a layer of tracing paper in front.
Tumblr media
You can see the chip clip holding the tracing paper in place on the right side.
Photography is just problem solving all the way down.
A higher quality softbox will have a second layer of diffusion already built in to prevent this, so make sure the softbox has this feature before buying.
Tumblr media
Or invest in a roll of tracing paper and some chip clips.
Softboxes are an ingenious light modifier when built properly. They take a small light, diffuse it, enlarge it, and then focus it toward your subject. It's essentially a paradox of scattered & focused light. And since all of the scattering only happens *inside* the softbox, it gives you great control over how that light hits your subject. And you can focus it even more by putting a grid on the front.
Tumblr media
This keeps light from "spilling" off to the sides though it can reduce intensity a bit and create unusual looking catchlights in the eyes.
Whereas a cheap shoot-through umbrella kinda "shoots" scattered light all over the place and causes a ton of extra reflections off the walls and ceilings. That may end up giving you unwanted second, third, and fourth light sources contributing to your exposure.
Tumblr media
You can see light hitting the left and right walls and the ceiling—those pesky photons are going everywhere! And while it is giving a soft, flattering result due to that umbrella being so freaking big, you have almost no control over the light and how it affects your background.
So, yes, a softbox can make a small light source bigger, but that doesn't always mean you will get "soft" light.
This softbox takes a 10 inch LED panel and creates a 12 inch light source. This is mostly a scam product.
Tumblr media
The marketing says it makes the light softer.
Tumblr media
And while that is *technically* true, I'm afraid people are going to be disappointed if they think this thing is going to dramatically soften their light. A small increase in surface area like that would only be dramatically different if you were lighting a little toy car or the hypothetical ant friend I mentioned earlier. Something the size of a person is not going to see a difference in softness. Not to mention you are going to decrease the power of your light by adding diffusion and have no softening benefits.
Photography gear companies love taking advantage of new photographers because the desire to buy more gear to improve the quality of photos is quite strong. This is jokingly referred to as G.A.S. or "Gear Acquisition Syndrome." And while there is absolutely gear you can buy to improve your photos (lights, lenses, tripods), knowledge trumps any piece of gear at any time.
So, no, this scam softbox will not make the light appreciably softer. The only way to make this light softer is to find a softbox that enlarges it more than 2 friggin' inches, bounce it off something larger, or bring it closer to the subject. Move your light as close as possible and you will enlarge its apparent size.
Or, conversely, you can move your light farther away to make it hard.
Meaning you can technically make a softbox a hardbox.
Seriously, can we just do the whammy box thing?
So, what have we learned?
Soft light is more flattering to skin and reduces texture and harsh shadows.
Hard light increases contrast, sharpens shadows, and highlights texture.
Neither is good or bad. Soft light can be boring. Hard light can be interesting. A mixture of the two often produces the best result.
The only way to make light softer is to enlarge the light source.
You can enlarge a light source by...
Increasing the physical dimensions with a modifier.
Moving the light closer.
Reflecting the light off a larger surface.
Diffusion alone does not make a light softer.
Diffusion makes a light source more homogenous by mitigating hotspots.
Softboxes create homogenous light that you can direct and focus.
A softbox can still produce hard light if it is really small or really far away.
We should call it a whammy box.
How can you use this knowledge?
Well, the first thing you can do is...
DON'T BUY A RING LIGHT.
YES, I AM RANTING ABOUT RING LIGHTS AGAIN!
That giant hole in the middle of your light is a great spot for extra light.
And as we just learned, a larger light source is softer. So unless you specifically need a ring light and know how to use it (facial close-ups, camera goes in the hole), you are better off getting the biggest light you can fit in your space.
Look at how much bigger this light is than if it were a ring light.
Tumblr media
It's like all of these influencers are throwing perfectly good light into the garbage.
Sorry, let's try this again.
Once you avoid ring lights, how can you use this knowledge?
I know a lot of you reading this are not influencers or YouTubers or photographers. And you may be thinking all of this knowledge I just shoved in your dome is useless.
But here's the thing...
We all take photos.
And I think we all want our photos to look their best.
If you start thinking more about light when you take photos, I promise you will be able to improve their quality.
If you are taking a selfie, think about where you can go that has a larger light source. Perhaps you have a large window. Or you have a big overhead light or floor lamp that shines up into the ceiling.
I actually had this idea to create a mega light that could blend in with a house's decor, but secretly be a photography light for taking pictures of people and pets indoors at night.
Secret Photography Light Ingredients Cheap Floorlamp Dual Light Socket Adapter 9000 Lumen LED Bulbs
(Seriously, if you put that together, stick it in a corner, and turn it on when your kids or pets are playing, you will never have another blurry photo from inside your house unless they are going full zoomies.)
If you are outside on a sunny day, don't stand in direct sunlight.
Remember, THE SUN IS ACTUALLY SMALL, angularly speaking. Find a shady spot under a tree. Or put the sun behind you and face a big white wall so the reflected light smacks you in the face.
Walls are light sources!
The ground is a light source!
Remember that moon photo?
Tumblr media
You were looking at the sharp shadow earlier because I drew your attention to the sun being a small light source.
But the surface of the moon... HUGE LIGHT SOURCE.
How do you think the front of that space suit is lit when the sun is behind him? Either Stanley Kubrick has a big reflector offscreen or the ground is a soft second light source.
If you can't make it to the moon, just wait to take that selfie on a cloudy day. I think overcast light is a little boring, but your skin will look buttery smooth without using those stupid Facetune apps.
You can also wait for good light. Sometimes sunset has some nice, soft directional light because it has more atmosphere to scatter, diffuse, and enlarge it.
Tumblr media
If you are indoors, don't use direct flash on your phone. Never ever use direct flash if you can avoid it. But perhaps you are with friends and they all have phones too. Use one or more phones to bounce the flashlight off a nearby wall. Or open up a paper napkin and hold it just out of frame and shine light through it and diffuse it.
A piece of paper can even work!
Flashlight 3 feet away shining directly onto my face...
Tumblr media
Flashlight shining through a piece of paper a few inches in front of it...
Tumblr media
Flashlight shining through a piece of paper 2 feet away that is just out of frame...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I started with a small light source.
I then made the light source a little bigger with the paper, but the diffusion was too close and it created the dreaded hotspot of doom.
And then I made the light source as big as I could by moving the paper as close to my face as possible without being in the shot. This also gave the light more room to scatter and diffuse making it homogenous.
Froggie Tip: I was using a pretty powerful flashlight, so with a phone you might get better results *bouncing* the light off the paper rather than shining the light through the paper.
So, before you take a photo, just think about how you can make your light source bigger, brighter, and more homogenous and you might be surprised how much better you look.
ANYONE CAN DO THIS!

Sam: it’s also a stand against the oppressive stereotype that men can’t have long hair and must always have it short in order to appear masculine! Danny’s showing individuality and sticking it to the patriarchy at the same time!

The Center Cannot Hold
Charles Leclerc x wife!Reader
Summary: one cruel diagnosis sends your hopes and dreams crashing down in painful shards around you
Warnings: cancer, medical procedures, infertility, religion, recommendation to terminate pregnancy
Tumblr media
The sun sneaks through slits in the blinds, casting patches of warmth on your shared bed. You’re nestled against Charles’ chest, his heartbeat a gentle hum beneath your ear.
“Morning,” he murmurs, voice thick with sleep.
You smile, shifting around to meet his gaze. “It’s beautiful outside.”
Charles brushes a stray hair behind your ear. “Every day with you is beautiful.”
There’s a silent pause as the two of just stare at each other. You both know there is more to this morning than mere pleasantries. You think of the tiny stick in the bathroom, far more significant than its small size would have you believe.
“Should we?” You ask hesitantly.
He nods, pressing a soft kiss on your forehead. “Together.”
You both rise hand in hand, making the short walk to the bathroom. Your hands tremble as you reach for the plastic stick on the granite counter.
With a deep breath, you pick it up.
Two lines.
Positive.
Tears prick your eyes and you turn to Charles. “Look,” your voice barely a whisper.
He chokes on air. “Is this ... are we really”
“We did it,” you confirm, tears streaming freely.
Charles’ eyes shimmer with unshed tears of his own. He pulls you into his arms, burying his face in your hair. “We’re going to be parents.”
You pull back slightly, placing a hand on your stomach. “Our baby.”
He nods, laughing softly through his tears. “Our little miracle.”
Holding the test between you both, you share a look of wonder. It feels like the universe has just shifted and realigned in the most beautiful way.
***
The waiting room is a sea of neutral tones and the soft murmurs of hushed conversations. You sit, nervously tapping your fingers on your knee, while Charles wraps an arm around your shoulders in an attempt to calm you.
He leans down to whisper in your ear, “You alright?”
You give him a small, tense smile. “Just a bit nervous. First-time jitters, I guess.”
Charles gives your hand a reassuring squeeze. “Everything will be fine. It’s just a routine check-up.”
Before you can respond, a soft voice calls out, “Mrs. Leclerc?”
You both rise and follow the nurse as she leads you into a cozy exam room, pastel walls adorned with photos of smiling babies and happy families.
After a series of routine checks and questions, the mood remains light. However, when the doctor enters, a middle-aged woman with a kind face, there’s a subtle shift in the air, a feeling that’s hard to pin down.
“First-time parents?” She asks with a warm smile, trying to put you at ease.
Charles nods, beaming with pride. “Yes and we’re over the moon about it.”
She returns the smile but then her expression becomes more clinical, professional, as she reviews the ultrasound. The room is filled with the sound of the machine and your quiet exhalations.
Minutes stretch on, the silence growing more pronounced. The doctor’s brows furrow, her lips pressed into a thin line.
Charles, sensing the change, grips your hand tighter. “Is everything alright?”
She hesitates for a moment before turning to face you both. “Your baby seems healthy but there’s something concerning about your cervix. I would like to run a few more tests to be sure.”
Your heart plummets, the room suddenly feeling colder. “What ... what do you mean?”
She chooses her words carefully, “There is a chance that it is just a benign irregularity but we need to be certain.”
Tests turn into more tests and the hours seem to blur. Charles is fidgeting anxious mess beside you but his thumb never stops stroking your hand.
Finally, the doctor returns, the weight of the world seemingly on her shoulders. “I won’t sugarcoat it,” she begins heavily. “The results point to cervical cancer.”
Silence deafens the room. The world around you blurs and you feel Charles’ arms wrap around you, holding you as if you might shatter.
“No,” Charles whispers, his voice breaking. “There must be a mistake.”
The doctor looks at you with sympathy. “I wish there was. We caught it early but it’s aggressive. My recommendation would be to terminate the pregnancy and begin treatment immediately.”
Your mind races, heartbreak and disbelief clashing within. “Terminate? But our baby ...”
She gently cuts you off. “It’s the best chance to save your life.”
Your vision blurs, the reality of her words crashing over you like a tidal wave. The room, with its softly painted walls and happy baby pictures, suddenly feels like a cruel mockery.
Charles eyes are clouded over with tears and despair. “Please,” he whispers, holding your face between his trembling hands. “I can’t lose you.”
You choke back a sob, the enormity of the situation making it hard to breathe. “But our baby, Charles. Our little miracle.”
He hugs you close, his voice muffled as he buries his face your hair. “I know. But I need you. We promised each other forever, remember?”
You clutch at him, memories of shared dreams and whispered promises flooding back. The villa by the sea that you would fill with warmth and laughter, growing old together, watching sunsets side by side.
“I can’t imagine a life without you,” he continues, voice breaking. “Not a single day.”
The pain in his words cuts deep, each syllable a raw wound. You hide your face in his chest, tears soaking his shirt.
“We wanted this baby so much,” you whisper brokenly.
“I know,” Charles chokes out. “But I need you with me. I can’t be alone. I can’t live without you.”
***
The soft glow of a lamp casts long shadows, making the room feel both intimate and immense. You sit on the couch, a soft blanket draped around your shoulders, staring blankly at the tea that has long gone cold in your mug.
Charles sits opposite you, unmoving. He clears his throat, searching for words, “I’ve been thinking ... about what the doctor said.”
You look up, meeting his gaze, a storm brewing within it. “So have I.”
Charles closes his eyes, struggling with his emotions. “I can’t bear the thought of a world without you in it. I would be content, you know? To grow old, just the two of us, if it means I spend every day of my life with you by my side.”
Your heart aches, tears pricking your eyes. “Charles, our baby ...”
He cuts you off, voice filled with raw emotion. “I know. But you’re my world. I can’t lose you. I won’t lose you.”
A heavy silence settles between you two, the weight of unsaid words pressing down.
You take a deep breath, “I want this baby. I want our baby. But I also want to grow old with you, to be there for every race, for every win and every loss, on and off the track.”
He reaches across, taking your hand in his, fingers interlocking. “We’ve faced so much together. But this is tearing me apart. I just want you safe.”
You squeeze his hand, searching his eyes. “If I choose the baby, will you ... will you resent me? Will you resent them? If I choose the baby, and ... leave you alone?”
He looks away, the pain of thinking about it clear on his face, “Never. I would be lost. Completely and utterly lost. But I’ll never hold it against you. Or them. I’ll cherish our child but my heart ... my heart would be forever broken.”
You both sit in silence, lost in your thoughts.
“I’ve made up my mind.”
Charles looks at you intently, waiting.
“I’m going to keep the baby.”
He shuts his eyes tightly but a tear manages to slip through the crack and down his face. “I will support whatever decision you make. I just ... I love you so much.”
You move closer, wrapping your arms around him. “I love you too. We’ll face this together, no matter what.”
As you lay down beside Charles, the comfort of the familiar sheets beneath you, he wraps an arm around you, pulling you close. You can feel the tension in his body, the struggle to be the rock, to be strong.
In the quiet darkness, you feel more than hear his silent sobs, the tremors that shake his frame. You reach out, intertwining your fingers with his, offering the only comfort you can as the world falls apart around you.
***
“Please, mon amour, just eat something,” Charles implores, voice laced with worry as he holds out a plate of your favorite pasta.
The aroma drifts to you, making your stomach churn, but you force a weak smile. “I’ll try.”
It’s been months since that fateful doctor’s appointment. The specter of cancer looms over your pregnancy like a dark cloud, casting shadows on the joy you should be feeling.
Days blur into one another. Doctor visits are now your routine. Charles, who once sped around racetracks with fearless abandon, now navigates the hospital corridors with a silent determination.
There are days when weakness consumes you, moments when you can’t summon the strength to get out of bed. Charles has become your lifeline, helping you dress, making sure you eat, and even carrying you when your legs give out.
“I can’t do this,” you whisper to him one night, tears tracing down your cheeks. “I’m not strong enough.”
He cradles your face, his own eyes brimming with tears he refuses to shed. “You are the strongest person I know. You’re carrying our baby. That’s the bravest thing anyone can do.”
The pain is relentless, a constant companion. Each doctor’s visit brings more bad news. The cancer is spreading and your body is weakening. Yet, you cling to hope, to the belief that your love for each other can conquer anything.
One evening, you're curled up on the couch, aching and exhausted. Charles, sitting beside you, traces a finger along your cheek, his touch gentle as he tries to be strong for both of you.
“You’re my world,” he murmurs, voice thick with emotion. “I hate seeing you like this but I would rather be with you in this darkness than without you in the light.”
Tears well up in your eyes as you reach for his hand. “We’ll get through this together. Our love is stronger than anything. Even cancer.”
But you’re not sure how much you can believe that anymore.
***
“You’re playing with fire,” your sister blurts out the moment she steps into your living room. Her eyes are red, mascara messily smudged around them.
Charles’ jaw clenches but before he can retort, your father interjects, his voice roughened by age and worry, “She means you’re risking too much. We all see it.”
You sink further into the couch under the weight of their stares. “I know what I’m doing.”
“Do you really?” Your mother questions wetly. “Every time we see you, you’re paler, weaker. Is it worth it?”
Charles steps forward, taking your hand. “It’s her choice. And I’ll stand by her through everything.”
Your best friend sighs deeply. “We’re just scared for you. We don’t want to lose you.”
The room becomes a whirlwind of opinions, tears, and pleas. They all mean well, you know that, but the their concerns feel suffocating.
The tension escalates, words sharper than intended, when suddenly Charles explodes, “That’s enough! It’s her decision and it’s not up for you to debate.”
The room falls silent.
Your sister speaks up, “We just love you, that’s all.”
Charles collapses onto the couch beside you, burying his face in his hands. “And you think I don’t? I don’t want to be a widower. A single father looking at our child and seeing only the love we lost,” he admits in a hushed tone, his voice breaking. “It’s the only thing I see whenever I close my eyes. It plagues my dreams. But that love means supporting Y/N even if seeing what she’s going through breaks my heart.”
You pull him close. “I know. But I need to hold onto hope. To believe we can have it all. Our baby and a lifetime together.”
He gazes deep into your eyes. “I love you. More than words can say. I just want you with me, always.”
Tears flow freely down your cheeks as you reach for his hand. “I know you’re scared. I am too. But I believe in us, in our love. And I can’t bear to let go of our baby.”
He wraps you in a hug and you can feel his body trembling. “I don’t want to lose you but I can’t stand to see you suffer like this either.”
***
“Do you think they’ll have your eyes?” Charles murmurs, his hand gently resting on your swollen belly, fingers tracing small circles.
You smile weakly, feeling the flutter of tiny kicks in response. “Or your fearless spirit?”
He chuckles softly, leaning down to press a gentle kiss to your baby bump. “Hey there, little racer. Promise me you’ll take after your mother more.”
Despite the weariness that constantly lingers, these quiet moments fill your heart with warmth.
“Imagine,” you whisper one evening, “our little one’s first day of school or their first race if they decide to follow in their papa’s footsteps.”
Charles grins, “And inheriting their maman’s stubborn streak will surely mean they’ll be a world champion.”
As your body grows heavier with the weight of the pregnancy and growth of the cancer, your time spent outside the confines of your bed becomes increasingly limited. The facade Charles wears for your benefit becomes increasingly brittle. He’s your rock, never letting his worries show in front of you, but you still see the toll it’s taking on him.
One evening, after ensuring you’re comfortably tucked in, Charles kisses your forehead softly and whispers, “Rest, mon amour. I’ll be right here.”
Drifting into a fitful sleep, you wake to the muffled sound of heart-wrenching sobs. Curiosity pulls you from the warm cocoon of your bed with the last of your strength, guiding you towards the soft light spilling from the slightly ajar bathroom door.
Listening closer, you can hear Charles’ broken voice, “I can’t ... I can’t lose her. Not like this.”
You press your hand to your mouth, tears spilling down your cheeks as you realize he’s on a call, probably with one of his brothers.
“You don’t understand,” Charles continues, his voice trembling with emotion. Every time I look at her, I see our future slipping away. Our dreams, our plans ... everything is fading into ashes.”
There’s a pause, punctuated with stifled sobs. “I have to be strong for her but it’s tearing me apart. Every smile I wear, every reassurance I give, it all feels like a lie because I am so freaking scared.”
Your heart aches, hearing the raw pain in his voice, knowing all this time he’s been shielding you from his own agony.
Silently, you retreat, not wanting him to know you’ve overheard. Slipping back into bed, you grapple with the weight of the shared pain, the collective heartache that has become your reality.
Minutes later, Charles returns to the bedroom. His eyes red-rimmed but determined. He sends a shaky smile your way, “How’s my brave girl?”
You reach out, trying to pull him against your chest with tired arms. “Let’s be brave together.”
He nods, choking back fresh tears. “Together. No matter what.”

The old church stands quietly in Maranello, its tall steeple pointing skyward, as if reaching out to the heavens. Inside, the soft glow of candles flickers as the side door swings open. Don Pietro, an aging priest with kind eyes lined with crow’s feet, is startled by the sudden entrance.
“Charles?” His voice, filled with surprise, echoes softly in the hushed space.
Charles’ normally confident stride is replaced with hesitation. “Don Pietro,” he tries to muster a smile but fails. “I ... I didn’t know where else to go.”
The priest approaches, eyes filled with concern. “I’ve been worried. When Ferrari announced you were taking a season off, I prayed for you.”
Charles chuckles bitterly, “Prayers. Never thought I would be seeking those.”
Don Pietro studies him for a moment. “Pain has a way of making us turn to the unexpected.”
Charles’ face contorts in anguish. “I’ve always called myself an atheist. After Jules ... after my father ... I felt abandoned by any god that might exist. But now, she’s ... she’s everything to me and I’m powerless to stop losing her.”
The priest’s voice is soft when he replies, “Life may test us in ways we can’t comprehend. But God never gives us more than we can bear.”
Charles’ laugh is hollow, devoid of mirth. “Bear? I can’t bear the thought of a world without her. Tell me, how does a loving god allow such pain?”
Don Pietro sighs, the weight of many years shining through. “I won’t pretend to know all the answers but sometimes faith is all we have.”
“I feel like I’m being punished, like I’m cursed. Why else would I lose the people I love most?” Charles looks at the ground, his shoulders slumped in defeat as he takes a shuddering breath. “I would give anything ... anything to save her. I have thought to visit mosques, synagogues, temples ... anywhere some higher power might listen to my pleas. I’m desperate, Don Pietro.”
The priest speaks gently, “Turning to God in times of despair is not weakness. It’s human. But faith is not about bargaining, it’s about having trust.”
A tear rolls down Charles’ cheek. “I’m so scared. Every night, I watch her sleep, wondering if it will be our last night together. I would gladly give up everything else if it means she stays with me.”
The priest reaches out, placing a comforting hand on Charles’ shoulder. “Then let’s pray, my son. Let us pray together.”
The tears turn to a steady stream rolling down Charles’ cheeks as he falls to his knees. “Please ... I’ll do anything. Just don’t take her away.”
Don Pietro kneels beside him. “God hears you, Charles. And He knows your pain.”
They stay united in prayer. Two souls reaching out to the heavens and begging for a miracle.
***
“It’s too early,” you gasp, clutching the bed sheets as another contraction grips you.
Charles is by your side, panic evident in his eyes even as he tries to keep you calm. “Breathe, love. Just breathe. We’ll get through this.”
But the pain is relentless, each contraction more intense than the last. The hospital room is a blur of activity, doctors and nurses rushing around, preparing for the premature delivery.
“You need to stay strong,” one of the nurses urges, trying to guide you through the pain.
Charles, pale and shaking, holds your hand so tightly it’s almost painful. “Stay with me,” he pleads, his voice breaking. “You and our baby, both of you, stay with me. Please.”
The labor is grueling, each passing minute a test of your willpower and strength. Charles is crumbling into pieces beside you, every ounce of his pain clearly written across his face.
“I can’t lose you,” he whispers, leaning close. “Not now, not ever.”
But the world around you is fading, the pain becoming too much to bear. “I love you so much. In this life and the next,” you choke out with the last of your strength as your vision tunnels.
Suddenly, alarms blare. The room becomes a whirlwind of organized chaos. “We’re losing her!” A doctor shouts.
Charles is pushed aside as they work to save you. “No! Please, no!” He screams in agony.
You’re dimly aware of being rushed into another room, doctors shouting orders and starting emergency procedures.
Then, everything goes black.
Charles is left in the corridor. A broken man, waiting for news, praying for a miracle. Hours feel like days, each passing second an eternity.
Finally, a doctor emerges, his scrubs covered in spots of dark blood. “The baby is fine,” he begins, “But your wife ... we had to put her in a coma. The cancer is advanced. We’ll do everything we can but she’s not out of the woods.”
Charles sinks to the floor, tears streaming down his face. “Please, just save her. Please.”
***
“It’s a girl,” a nurse approaches Charles with a small bundle wrapped in a soft pink blanket.
Charles, tears still fresh on his face, looks up, momentarily stunned. “A ... a girl?”
The nurse nods, offering the tiny newborn to him. “Would you like to hold her?”
He hesitates, then slowly reaches out, cradling his daughter in his arms. Her small face, a canvas of peace among the chaos, is a stark contrast to the turmoil surrounding them.
“She’s beautiful,” he whispers, tears starting anew. “Just like her mother.”
The nurse smiles gently. “Have you thought of a name?”
Charles nods, “Juliette. After my godfather.”
Gently rocking the infant, he leans down, pressing a tender kiss on her forehead. “Hey, Juliette,” he murmurs. “I’m your papa. Your maman and I have waited so long for you. We love you so much.”
Juliette stirs, her tiny fingers curling around one of Charles’ own.
“I promise,” Charles voice breaks, “to protect you. I will be here for you, always.”
A doctor approaches, clearing his throat. “Mr. Leclerc, your wife’s condition is critical. But she’s a fighter and she has a lot to fight for.”
Charles nods, looking down at Juliette. “She does. We both do.”
Gently rocking your daughter, he loses himself in the rhythm of her soft breaths and the warmth of her tiny body against his chest. It’s an odd feeling — holding the fresh promise of life in his arms while the love of his life hangs in the balance.
***
“We’ve run all possible tests,” the oncologist begins. Charles, clutching a sleeping Juliette to his chest, waits with bated breath. “The cancer has progressed aggressively. To give her a fighting chance, we need to perform a hysterectomy.”
The room grows cold as the gravity of the doctor’s words sinks in. Charles’ voice trembles, “But that means ...”
The doctor nods, voice as gentle as the situation allows. “She won’t be able to bear children again.”
Silence stretches as the weight of the world seems to fall on Charles’ shoulders. He gazes down at Juliette, the embodiment of the dreams and hopes you both had.
“We had plans,” Charles whispers, more to himself. “We wanted more children, a big family.”
The doctor waits. “I understand how hard this is. But without the procedure, her chances ...”
“I know,” Charles cuts him off, voice breaking. “Do it. Do whatever it takes to save her.”
The doctor nods, squeezing Charles’ shoulder in a gesture of comfort. “We’ll do our best.”
As preparations for the surgery commence, Charles sits in the dimly lit waiting area, holding Juliette close. The baby, as if sensing the heavy atmosphere, remains unusually quiet.
“It’s not fair,” Charles’ lips form words meant for the void. “She’s sacrificed so much already. She deserves a world filled with joy and laughter.”
From across the room, a nurse, having overheard, speaks up, “Life has its cruel twists but the love you both share … that’s rare. Hold onto that.”
Charles nods, taking solace in the nurse’s words. Time seems to lose all meaning, each tick of the clock amplifying the uncertainty and fear.
Finally, a surgeon approaches, fatigue evident in her posture even as her face remains carefully professional. “The procedure went as well as could be expected. Your wife is stable for now.”
Relief floods Charles so rapidly that he has to stop himself from falling to the ground as he murmurs a heartfelt, “Thank you.”
But as he sits by your bedside, watching the steady rise and fall of your chest, the reality of what you had lost sets in. The dreams of a large family, shared laughter, and memories, all stolen by this cruel twist of fate.
***
The world around you is a haze of light and shadow, the sounds a distant echo. Your eyes flutter open and for a moment you’re lost, disoriented, and overwhelmed. Then, you see Charles, his face etched with relief and sorrow, tears glistening in his eyes.
“Welcome back,” he whispers, his voice cracking with emotion. “We’ve missed you so much.”
You try to speak but your throat is too parched to make a sound. Charles offers you a sip of water, his hands trembling as he helps you drink.
“What happened?” You finally manage to croak, your eyes darting around the unfamiliar room.
Charles takes a deep breath, his gaze never leaving yours. “The cancer ... it had advanced. They had to perform a hysterectomy to save you.”
The word hangs in the air, heavy and final. Your abdomen feels sore and you reach down, fingers tracing the bandages. Panic seizes you and the tears pour down without permission as the reality of what’s been taken from you crashes down.
“It’s gone,” you sob. “Our dreams ... our family.”
Charles leans in, tears mingling with yours. “Shh, mon amour. None of this is your fault. We’ll find another way, another path to happiness. We have Juliette and we have each other.”
But the weight of guilt is crushing. “We dreamed of a big family,” you cry, the depth of your loss piercing. “And I’ve taken that away from us.”
He brushes your tears away. “You have nothing to be sorry for. This is not your fault. We’ll make new dreams together, I promise.”
“I just wanted to give you everything,” the grief wracks your body.
“You already have,” Charles insists. “You’ve given me love, you’ve given me our little girl … our Juliette. That’s more than I could ever ask for.”
With great effort, you lift your arms, weak from the ordeal. Charles, understanding your unspoken desire, carefully places Juliette against your chest. You’re too weak to hold her on your own but together, you and Charles support her tiny form.
“Hello, Juliette," you whisper, tears of joy mingling with your earlier tears of grief.
She blinks up at you, her eyes wide and curious. You’ve never felt anything like what fills your heart as you look at the perfect human you both created, the embodiment of love and resilience.
“I love you both so much,” you whisper, heart swelling with a dizzying mix of joy and sorrow.
Charles, his own eyes filled with tears, leans down and kisses both you and Juliette gently. “We have each other and right now that’s all that matters.”
***
“I never imagined it would be like this,” your voice wavers as you lie propped up by pillows in the dimly lit bedroom.
Charles, his fingers intertwined with yours, meets your gaze. “Neither did I.”
The weight of all that’s transpired hangs heavily in the room. The joy of Juliette’s arrival is marred by the pain and loss you both feel.
“I feel ... incomplete,” you admit, tears forming in your eyes. “Like a part of me is missing.”
“I wish I could take away the pain,” Charles responds. “If I could trade places with you, I would in a heartbeat.”
You squeeze his hand. “It’s not your burden to bear. But it’s … hard. I wanted to give Juliette siblings, the big family we always talked about.”
Charles leans in to rest his forehead against yours. “We still have a family. We have each other and we have Juliette. We can still have a full, beautiful life together.”
You sigh, “But do you ever wonder why? Why us?”
He hesitates, searching for words. “Every day. Sometimes, there’s just no answer, only a path forward.”
You curl into him, drawing comfort from his warmth. “What does our path forward look like?”
Charles pulls back, looking deep into your eyes. “It’s filled with love, with hope. We heal together. We face challenges together. And we build a future together. No matter what.”
“I’m scared.”
He brushes away your tears. “So am I. But we have each other and that’s a pretty good place to start if you ask me.”
***
“She smiled, Charles! Did you see that? Juliette smiled!”
Charles rushes over and peers into the crib with gleaming eyes. “There it is! That little grin,” his voice is filled with wonder. “Our little miracle has the most beautiful smile. Just like her mother’s.”
Juliette, seemingly aware of the shared happiness in the room, gurgles softly, her small fingers reaching out to grasp a lock of Charles’ hair.
You watch them, a gentle smile playing on your lips. “She brings us so much joy. It’s amazing.”
Charles nods, his eyes never leaving Juliette’s face. “She’s our light in the darkness.”
Leaning over, you press a soft kiss to Juliette’s forehead. “I’m so thankful for both of you.”
He shifts closer, resting his head against yours. “You know, mon amour, I’ve been thinking ...”
You turn to him, curiosity piqued. “About what?”
He takes a deep breath. “About our dreams. I know it’s not what we originally planned but what if we consider adoption?”
Your heart skips a beat at his words, love and hope blossoming. “Adoption?”
Charles smiles warmly. “Yes. We’ve always dreamed of a big family. And there are so many children out there who need a home, who need love. We can give a child all of that and more.”
Tears well up in your eyes but they’re tears of joy and gratitude. “That’s a beautiful idea.”
He leans in, pressing his lips to yours gently. “Our love knows no bounds. The path to our dreams may not be as simple as we once imagined but we will get there, one step at a time.”
***
Charles’ phone buzzes with an incoming call in the early hours of the morning. Seeing a familiar name flash across the screen, he answers immediately. “Don Pietro? Is everything okay?”
“Charles, you need to come to Maranello. Both of you. As soon as possible.”
Charles exchanges a puzzled glance with you. “Is something wrong?”
“Just come,” Don Pietro insists, “and bring your wife. I believe there is a miracle waiting for you.”
The drive to Maranello is filled with anticipation. Your mind races with possibilities, questions whirling in a tornado of confusion and hope.
Upon arriving at the church, you’re met with the sight of the elderly priest holding a tiny bundle. The baby, with soft tufts of hair and eyes wide with curiosity, looks up at the two of you.
“This,” Don Pietro begins, “is Enzo. He was left on the steps of our church last night. And the moment I held him, I thought of you two.”
Charles’ eyes widen. “Enzo ... like Ferrari?”
Don Pietro nods with a soft chuckle, “It’s as if the universe is trying to tell us something.”
You reach out, taking the infant into your arms. Enzo’s little hand wraps around your finger, his eyes meeting yours. The connection is instant, like two souls recognizing each other.
Charles’ voice is thick with emotion, “It’s as if he was meant to be with us. A sign, maybe?”
Don Pietro smiles warmly, “Perhaps a nudge from above, reminding us that miracles happen when we least expect them.”
Tears spring to your eyes, the weight of the moment overwhelming you. Charles is equally moved, his eyes glistening and lips trembling.
“We talked about adoption,” he murmurs. “But this ... this feels like fate.”
Don Pietro nods. “He needs a family, love, and a home. And I believe you two can give him that.”
As Charles takes Enzo from your arms and cradles him close, a bond that goes beyond words quickly forms. You lean in, touching Enzo’s chubby cheek, your heart swelling with love.
The moment feels destined — a new piece seamlessly fitting into the puzzle of your family.
***
“Look at that, Julie and Enny! Those cars go vroom vroom,” you point out with a smile playing on your lips as the roar of engines fills the air.
Juliette’s eyes widen in awe, her tiny hand pointing excitedly. Beside her, Enzo claps his hands, giggling. “Vroom!” He mimics.
Charles, his racing suit on, kneels to their level. “Would you like to see papa’s car up close?”
Both children nod eagerly, their eyes sparkling.
As you make your way through the paddock, team members and other drivers stop to meet the kids. “Look at these future champions!” Exclaims one of the engineers, ruffling Enzo’s hair.
Juliette, ever the social butterfly, giggles and offers a shy “Hello.”
Reaching the Ferrari garage, the team breaks into smiles. “Looks like Charles brought his lucky charms today,” someone comments, causing a round of chuckles.
“Ready for a photo op?” Charles grins, lifting Juliette into the driver's seat as you follow suit with Enzo, placing him right beside his sister.
They look so small in the cockpit, faces full of wonder. “Beep beep,” Juliette laughs, pretending to steer.
“Future Ferrari driver right here,” Charles beams.
As the team gathers around, cameras flashing, you take a moment to soak it all in. The laughter, the joy, the memories — this is what life is about.
“There were times I thought this day would never come,” Charles whispers to you, his arm wrapping around your waist. “Our family here, all together.”
You squeeze his hand, tears of happiness threatening to spill over. “Our dream is now … and it’s only just beginning.”
***
“Henri and Helaine, look it’s your sister!” You cheer, pointing to the massive screen as Juliette’s Ferrari speeds past, making your young twins cheer and clap clumsily in excitement.
Charles grins as an orange blur follows shortly, “And Enzo’s not far behind. What a race!”
The atmosphere in the paddock is electric. Red for Ferrari, orange for McLaren, the colors of a family divided by teams but united by love.
Suddenly, a microphone appears as a familiar reporter approaches. “A quick word for the fans? It must be a thrilling day for the Leclerc family!”
Charles grins, adjusting his half-Ferrari, half-McLaren cap. “Oh, absolutely! We couldn’t be any prouder. A bit of sibling rivalry never hurt anyone, right?”
You laugh, nodding in agreement. “We’ve always said, as long as they’re safe and enjoying themselves, that’s what matters. Though,” you add with a playful wink, “I always wear both colors, just in case!”
The reporter chuckles. “And the young ones? Future racers in the making?”
Henri, with all the innocence of childhood, pipes up, “I wanna go vroom too!”
Helaine nods rapidly. “Me too! Super duper fast.”
You and Charles exchange a glance in amusement. “Well, there you have it,” Charles says with a smile. “Looks like the tracks will be seeing Leclercs for many years to come.”
The race ends with both Juliette and Enzo clinching a podium finish. The celebrations are loud and filled with joy, but for you, true happiness is seeing your family — past, present, and future — come together just like you always dreamed.

DPXDC prompt. Granny al Ghul
Ra's al Ghul believed that there were no former members of the League of Assassins. Maddie understood that perfectly, but it didn’t make her any more prepared when she saw her father.
"Hey, are you my favorite sweet grandpa?" Danny, who noticed his mother freezing in fear after opening the door, immediately stood in front of her. "Want to hug?"
"It was you again! I know for sure." The head of the league hissed in anger. ''Get out!"
"But this is my house." Her son shrugged his shoulders and smiled in a strange snide way. "Do you want me to show you my room or do you want me to chew a cookie for you? You look totally senile. Even your feet can’t hold you."
Ra's Al Ghul was shaking with rage. "Don’t play dumb, I know you’ve been tinkering with water in my Lazarus pits." "They are part of the nature reserve of the Ghost Zone." Danny was rightly outraged. "Write your name on them even a hundred times, they will not be yours."
"But you’ll get a fine for vandalism. You’re lucky I didn’t report you to the authorities." Danny threatens grandpa with his finger. "But it’s only because we’re family, you know?" Ra's frowns but stops arguing. "Would you like a cup of tea?" Danny’s offering a truce. Ra's sighs. "Well, I wouldn't say no."
~~~~~
"Do you like your drink?" Danny asks, pouring grandpa more green tea with milk. "Disgusting." The head of the League of Assassins answers sincerely. "Good." Danny’s smiling like a gremlin. "Hey, do you want to see an album with photos of baby Danny, Ra's?" asks Jack, who doesn’t notice the tension around. "No." Maddie was sitting there with her eye twitching for the last 40 minutes. "I would like to see a family photo album, Madeline." Ra's, who saw an opportunity to embarrass his insolent grandson, did not want to lose it.
~~~~~
"For the last time, why should I participate in this abomination?" Ra's stared angrily at his grandson pushing him into the classroom.
"Come on, grandpa, you saw my photo from kindergarten with a piss on my pants." Danny looked at him, batting his eyelashes.
Ra's rolled his eyes."And why does it mean I have to join this circus?"
"We’re definitely family now! And I promised Mr. Lancer I will take on Career Day this year anyone but not mom or dad. I’m definitely not gonna call Vlad. So that leaves you." Danny pushed him again.
The guard at the Demon's Head got nervous, but Ra’s hand stopped him. "I did not agree."Grandpa moved one of the swords to Danny’s neck.
Fenton just brushed it off with a frown. "Come on, tell everyone a little bit about your plans for immortality and world domination. Maybe I’ll be interested in being your heir then. I promise to listen carefully!"
~~~~
"The most important thing in educating your minions is control. They must feel an absolute fear of your authority." The inspired Ra's continued his speech after the bell. Lancer was taking notes. Tucker looked at it.
"I don’t like it, guys. I stick to the good old-fashioned disciplinary measures, you know?" Techno geek whispered.
"Well, I’m totally fine with it." Danny, who had noticed that after a fascinating lecture about the most effective tortures Dash was sitting two desks further away from him, showed his grandfather fist with the thumb up.
~~~~
"I changed my mind, I’ll kill him." Danny roared, running around the stadium after his thirtieth lap. What idiot from the school board took his crazy grandfather’s advice about organizing extra fitness classes? Next to him Wes fell to the ground. "Do it, Phantom. Avenge us." The boy wheezed at the last breath. "No distractions, five more laps!" Ra's stood on the field with the hand fan. "This bastar-r-rd." Danny roared furiously. "What? My favorite grandson wants to run another ten? Well, I can’t say no, right, coach?" Demon's Head yelled.
~~~~
"You know, it is really nice to take a vacation sometimes. I feel an unprecedented surge of strength." Ra’s reached out to Mr. Lancer standing next to him. "Would you like to meet for coffee sometime?"
"How about Friday, around 7:00 p.m.?" Mr Lancer looked at his schedule. "No, I’m busy at this time." Ra's sighed with regret. "We have a ritual sacrifice scheduled for six p.m." "You have a great sense of humor, my friend." Mr. Lancer laughed. "Who knew Mr. Fenton had such an intriguing and well-read grandfather. You’re full of surprises, Mr al Ghul." ~~~~ Damian, sitting on the roof of Casper High, lays down his binoculars and sighs. "Yes, mother is right, grandfather finally lost his mind." "Well, I’m glad you noticed too." A voice filled with relief rang very close. "Who’s here?" Damian took out the katana. "Um, boo?" Void’s voice answered.
At War
Luke Castellan x Reader [fem!daughter of Apollo]
Summary: There's nothing like some friendly competition, but when planning rival parties, you and Luke are a little less than friendly.
Word count: 2k
Tumblr media
Every year, there came a time for the retreats- a chance for children of the gods to bond and have some special fun. One big retreat seemed pointless, so camp faculty allowed two. The two retreats accidentally split the boys and girls, and naturally, they turned into an (unofficial) competition. As one of the oldest and most experienced campers- you’d been volunteering to champion a retreat for years. Traditionally, you’ve hosted a slumber party equipped with PJs, dancing, games, movies, braid trains, nail polish, and basically anything anyone could want. You also, of course, have the best food. Each year, it’s been a hit, and it’s only gotten better with time.
The only problem is that you have tough competition. The day after the retreats, you always hear about what happened at the other one. Paintball, camping, fishing, mad romps through the wood, scary stories- barbecue. Everyone loved it. And every year, you’ve had to quietly conceal your anger and jealousy. It pains you to admit that Luke sure can throw a party (maybe even better than you can). But this year, you are more determined than ever to outdo him.
The two of you have long been in competition, and things have only escalated. As hilarious as Mr. D found both your antics last year, Chiron was extremely unhappy about the fact the two of you had exceeded the budget by miles. He’d told you both to reign it in this year or no more retreats. When he felt that didn’t sufficiently move you, he threatened to let other people plan them. You both caved and vowed to stick to the budget this year.
You’re always a little frantic the day of, and today is no different. To your chagrin, Luke is cool as a cucumber. It pisses you off to no end.
“Nervous?” A smug voice voice asks from behind your back. You drop the spoon you were using to push mashed potatoes around your plate.
You turn slowly on the bench, “Why should I be?"
“Usually, you’re pulling out your hair before the retreats,” he says skeptically, “perfectionism taking its toll.”
“Yeah? Well, my perfectionism makes my parties perfect,” you flaunt. The few sisters that can stand to be around you when you’re stressed roll their eyes. It’s clear to them this is escalating.
“What about when Susie vomited in your bouncy house last year?” He taunts, and you glare at him. That girl should not have been jumping after four bags of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and two Redbulls- it was hardly your fault.
“How about when Aidan got a concussion after falling off the mechanical bull?” You snap back.
You don’t notice Luke’s shadow until he pipes in, “Are these people okay?”
“They signed waivers!” You say at the same time, and the new Poseidon kid takes a defensive step back. You send Luke a glare when you realize you spoke in sync. He huffs before smirking at you.
“Good luck with your sleepover,” he mocks, “You’re gonna need it.” Before you can reply, he marches away, protégée in tow.
“Eat shit!” You call out after him.
“That was weak, girl,” one of your sisters says.
“Shut up, I know,” you shake your head at her, “now come help me set up.” You drag her up by her elbow to make your sacrifices, then get to work.
Five hours later, the main hall looks great. Your disco ball is glimmering, the mini photo booth is equipped with feather boas and pink cowboy hats, the food is all laid out, and the stage you bribed some Hephaestus kids to build looks great.
“Perfect,” you whisper, pleased at your surroundings.
“Fucking finally!” Your sister throws her hands up and walks away. You’ve very likely driven most of your half-siblings insane today.
“Thanks for your help!” You call after her, and as she goes, you spot some prying eyes through the window. Percy, you think his name is, looks afraid now that you’ve caught him peering in through the window. In a few swift moves, you leave the room and block his exit from the patio.
“Can I help you?” You ask suspiciously.
“Just admiring your excellent disco theme,” he says, putting an ultra-sweet smile on his face. As charming as the boy is, you take your retreat very seriously and feel a deep-seated urge to protect it from potential sabotage.
“Mhmmm,” you nod, “and you wouldn’t happen to be reporting back to anyone about what you’ve seen?”
“Whaaaaaat?” Percy asks, awkwardly chuckling.
Your shoulders drop, of course, Luke would stoop to employing spies. You dig into your pocket and pull out a ten-dollar bill, “I’ll give you this if you act as a double agent.”
He eyes your money suspiciously, “Do you really think I can be bought?”
You roll your eyes and pull out another bill, “How’s twenty?”
“Pleasure doing business with you,” he grabs both bills from your hand and shakes it. Percy happily walks past you, shoving his new earnings into his pocket.
You grin, “Make sure he hears all about how awesome my party is!”
“I’m on it, boss,” he calls over his shoulder. After a short walk, he’s back to the boathouse lounge where Luke has been waiting for his report.
“Well?” The older boy asks him, jumping up from his spot on the couch.
Percy shakes his head solemnly, “Bad news, boss.”
“What?!” He asks, eyes wide. “Don’t tell me she went over budget. She didn't get another mariachi band, did she?” Percy shakes his head and files this new information away. With what he’s been hearing about the last few retreats, he’s almost sad to have missed them.
“No, but it does look super cool,” he nods, and it really wasn’t a lie- he saw a chocolate fountain on that snack table.
“Damn,” Luke’s face twitches in annoyance.
“But your party will be great too, I’m sure,” he smiles, nodding reassuringly.
“Of course, it will,” he says defensively, “make sure you check back in over there from time to time. I want to know how it’s progressing.”
“Sure,” Percy nods, but his concern at the competitiveness underlying this event grows. He wonders just how bad this will get tonight. But check back in he does, and he won’t deny he enjoys himself at the sleepover. Every time he visits, you give him a new sparkly mocktail, and the Aphrodite girls give him a new feather boa. At one point, he’s wearing heart-shaped sunglasses and eating some cake. He was very impressed when M&Ms fell out of the middle as you cut it. Apparently, it’s also one of your newest sisters’ birthdays- he’s heard whisperings of some big special present for her yet to come.
Each time Percy returns to the other retreat, he can see Luke get a little more tense. The fact that he’s exaggerating doesn’t help either. When he tells the older boy that you have an ice sculpture spitting Dr. Pepper, he thinks he sees steam pour from Luke’s ears. It’s not like people aren’t enjoying his party, but Percy can that Luke wants to one-up you and feels like he’s falling short.
“And I’ve heard she has a special surprise in store for Sophie since it’s her birthday. Apparently, she’s the newest addition to their cabin, so she wants to do something special,” Percy nods at him, eating a taco he had brought back from your party. Luke cuts him off by grabbing the taco from his hand just as he’s about to take another bite. “Hey!” He protests when Luke puts it right in the trash.
“When is this surprise?” He asks the twelve-year-old.
“The Aphrodite girls told me I should be back in like twenty minutes so I wouldn’t miss it,” Percy tells him.
“And when was that?”
“Like twenty minutes ago,” he shrugs, and Luke just stares at him. “Ohhhhh,” he says when he realizes how long it’s been.
“Come on,” Luke shakes his head and starts out the door, Percy in tow. They can hear the surprise before they see it, an ABBA song blasting out of the building. Only, they don’t realize who's performing it until they walk in. Along with two of your musically-inclined Apollo sisters, you’re dressed in bell bottoms and sleeves. And you look like you’re having the time of your life- until you spot them, that is.
“Look, look, look, look,” you pull the microphone away to mutter to Tanya. Her shock is visible, but you both keep performing anyway. The crowd goes wild at the end, and Sophie runs up on stage to give you a big hug. You let Tanya take over host duties and make your way through the crowd to the party crasher.
“That was,” Luke starts, but you are not keen to hear whatever he has to say about your outfit, or your performance, or your party.
“What the hell are you doing here?”
His expression instantly sours, “I wanted some Dr. Pepper from your ice sculpture, where is it?”
“What are you talking about?” You’re highly confused until Percy gives you the cut-it-out motion from behind Luke’s back. “We put it back in the freezer,” you say, and Percy gives you the thumbs up. No matter what you think of him, Luke’s not an idiot. He turns around in time to spot Percy’s gestures.
“Wait a second, are you two colluding?” He looks between the two of you in shock.
“You were colluding with him first,” you shrug, crossing your arms. “You really earned that twenty dollars, by the way,” you compliment the kid, and he gives you a pleased nod.
“Dude,” Luke turns toward Percy, betrayed.
“She outbid you,” he shrugs. “Hey, what if you guys just went to each other’s parties?”
You both eye the boy suspiciously, “Why would we do that?” You ask him, and Luke nods in agreement.
“Well, you’re both so desperate to know about the other’s party, so why don’t you just experience it for yourselves?” Percy asks, and when he feels you aren’t sufficiently moved by it, he tries again. “If you attend both parties, you can decide who wins.”
“Good enough for me,” Luke wanders off into your party.
“Yeah, okay,” you head for the door.
“Hopeless,” Percy mumbles, shaking his head.
An hour later, you and Luke meet in the middle of your respective parties. You stare at each other for a minute before you admit in sync, “I had fun.”
“We have to stop doing that,” you shake your head.
“Agreed.”
You’re both silent again for a minute. “The slip and slide was a good idea,” you say reluctantly, soap still in your hair, “low budget but lots of fun. Tubing was good too. And the campfire.” You had changed out of the disco attire and into shorts and a T-shirt over your swimsuit.
“Did you try-“
“Chris can really grill,” you nod. After some hesitance, you finally choke out a confession, “I am very displeased to call you the winner.”
“No way,” he shakes his head.
“What?”
“You totally won,” he shrugs, “the disco was killer.” You only now realize he changed into pajamas.
“You actually embraced the sleepover?”
He flicks some grass off your shoulder, “You gave my party a fair shot.” That’s true, and you nod, looking away for a second. “The chocolate fountain was a nice touch.”
“Thank you.”
“And I was trying to tell you earlier, but your performance was really cool,” he admits.
“Yeah?” A genuine grin grows on your face at this. Most everyone in the Apollo cabin loves music, but some of your half-siblings are more keen to perform than you. Hearing this, and from him especially, means a lot.
“Yeah,” he nods, smiling now too. “You’re the winner here.”
“Let’s call it a draw?” You offer, and he nods.
“What if we just worked together and planned one party next year?” He asked, and you pretend to consider it for a moment.
“That could be cool,” you nod, “imagine what we could do with the combined budget.”
He grins and scrunches his nose, “How about we enjoy this year’s party until then?”
“We could do that,” you nod, “where to?”
He swiftly wraps an arm over your shoulder and starts guiding you back to your party, “Let’s boogie.” You laugh, and he thinks it’s a sound he could get used to.
I've been awake for too long so idk if this is coherent but I had fun <3
Aizawa x student!reader - a handful of trouble
Tumblr media
Hiya I have a request for aizawa if that's alright. Maybe like Aizawa × student reader where R always tries to sneak out after curfew and he knows that so he just catches them again before they get out of the building with his scarf? - Anon💜
Looking at your phone, you grinned as you stuffed it into your pocket, zipping it up, and you made your way to the balcony of your room.
Jumping on the railing, you flexed your wings a couple of times to stretch them, then you jumped down.
“Nice try.”
You were tangled in Aizawa’s capture scarf, dangling from the side of the building.
“Busted…” you mumbled.
“Yup, and in a world of trouble.”
Aizawa lowered you down to the ground, keeping you in the scarf while All Might stood in front of you with his arms crossed.
Aizawa let you go, and you grinned up at All Might, planting your hands into the grass behind you.
“Double busted huh?”
“You know this is for your own safety.”
“Come on! It’s so boring!” You whined.
Aizawa walked back over, tangling you back into his scarf, making sure you couldn’t fly away.
He dragged you behind him.
“Come on Aizawa, is that really necessary?” All Might sighed.
“Yes! The kid won’t stay still long enough if I don’t! You try bringing them back inside one night!” He huffed.
You grinned proudly, looking up at both your teachers as you were lifted up, feet placed on the floor so you could get up the steps.
You waddled into the building, and sat down on the floor.
Aizawa walked over, and he stood in front of you with his arms crossed.
“Do I seriously have to put child locks and bars on the damn windows?” He snapped.
You rocked back and forth, trying to wiggle free from your captivity.
“Let me be free Mr Aizawa!”
“No! Why do you insist on breaking out every night?!”
“Let me be free!”
“No!”
Mr Aizawa sighed.
“I’m giving you a week of detention, and your on house arrest for two days!”
You grinned proudly.
“Freedom!”
“I’m going to be here with you so don’t even think about it!” He scolded.
You let out a groan of annoyance, and you threw yourself again the floor with a heavy thud.
“Don’t ignore me!”
You grinned proudly, staring up at the ceiling.
Aizawa sighed again, letting you go.
“Go back to your room, and you better not try sneak out again.”
You jumped up, beating your wings a couple of times to steady yourself before landing in the ground, and you grinned at your home room teacher.
You ran back to your room.
You just had to wait longer this time.
So you did, reading, studying, trying to wait until it was later in the night, and then you opened your balcony door.
You didn’t wait this time, you flung yourself out of the window and took straight into the skies with a big grin.
There was no reason why you broke out most nights, you just enjoyed the late night flights over the city.
You looked down at the city lights, and you stopped in one spot, wings keeping you in place there as you looked around.
You looked at the lights below, then looked up at the stars above.
It was almost like looking at the reflection in a lake, it was peaceful how they matched.
You turned around, looking up at the night sky, and you pulled out your phone to take a few photos.
While you were taking phones your phone started to ring, and you answered it, sticking it on speaker.
“Hello?”
“Seriously?! Again?! Where are you?!”
You held the phone away from your ear and let out a loud laugh.
“You’ll never find me Mr Aizawa!”
“I have Hawks looking for you! You’re in so much trouble (Y/N)!”
You snickered a little bit, going back to flying around, getting a little higher.
“I’m free!”
“You’re breaking curfew!”
“Yeah! Yeah! I’ll be back before the morning!”
“(Y/N) get back here now!”
“Bye!”
You hung up, turning your phone off and you stuffed it into your pocket with a grin.
You spotted the red winged hero not far ahead of you, and you gave him a little salute as you folded your wings against your back.
“Get back here you little rebel!”
You dived straight down, lightening building up around your wings, and in a flash you were gone.
A cool trick you had was when you went fast enough you could build up electricity, then using that you could teleport into another location as long as you knew where it was.
You appeared in front of the dorms, and you came crashing to a stop, tripping over and stumbling over your own two feet, falling to the ground.
“(Y/N)!”
Aizawa caught you in his scarf and pulled you into the dorm.
“You’re in a world of trouble!”
You threw yourself to the ground as he began to shout at you, and then he sighed, walking over to look down at you.
“If you keep this up you’re risking your studies to be a hero.”
You huffed a little.
“Look, I get your restless, but you have to quit this now, before I seriously consider having to expel you.”
“You can’t do that.”
“You want to test that theory?!” He snapped.
You huffed again, sitting up, folding your wings against your back.
“You’re on house arrest for two weeks, someone will be in your work by for you, you’ll be catching up on chores.”
“Boring!”
“Well stop breaking out! This isn’t a prison!”
“Then why can’t I be free?!”
“Because it’s not safe!”
Aizawa crossed his arms.
“If you stay in the dorm for a month like you’re supposed to I’ll consider asking hawks if he can take you on a flight with him every so often.”
Your face lit up.
“Seriously?!”
“You need to follow the rules for a month (Y/N). Then I’ll think about it.”
You jumped up, wings puffing up a little bit with excitement.
“Okay!”
“Good, now go to your room and stay there.”
You nodded your head and ran off.
Aizawa sighed, truth be told he was already arranging something like that for you, you clearly had a lot of energy, you needed to fly to burn that energy you had.
Aizawa came to check on you a few times, and just like you said you actually stayed in your room this time
It's forty minutes into the latest state of the company press conference and Bruce has had to mute his mic entirely to avoid being turned into a meme AGAIN for sighing too much at his own event. For all that he's spent almost 20 years coaching his own children on not making scenes, he's really not much better. It's hot and he doesn't want to be here. His ribs hurt. He's tired. He's hungry. He's every excuse Dick or Jason have trotted out over the years.
(Tim understands company manners and can almost always be trusted to stick it out as long as he's allowed to vent his frustrations afterwards. He's recently taken to smashing ugly thrifted dishes. Stephanie and Damian have been collecting any ceramic not entirely pulverized and turning them into pavers for Alfred's garden.)
(Bruce gave up after Tim. He really only needs one kid to tag along to social events. If the kid start to outnumber him they start getting IDEAS.)
His distraction is why it takes two very rude repetitions of his name for him to take notice at the young reporter pushing his way to the front. Lucius stands, cutting off the project manager currently presenting and speaks into the mic.
"Please keep hold all questions until the end of the presentation, thank you."
"Mr. Wayne," the reporter tries again and Bruce waves away Lucius's further protests.
"Can I help you?" He asks, smiling with the full force of Brucie Wayne's charm behind it. It's been awhile since his last scandal, but if the press is inventing drama then it's less work for him.
The man holds up a photograph almost accusingly. He reeks of gotcha journalism.
Bruce squints towards him, unable to fully make out the contents of the photo. Dick may have been right when he gently suggested Bruce add glasses to his Brucie Wayne persona but that was a hill Bruce was still willing to die on. It was bad enough he had to have a prescription COWL.
"What do you have to say about the presence of your adopted son, Timothy Drake at the illegal mob in Robinson Park last Saturday?"
"Drake-Wayne," Bruce corrected because Tim hyphenated, damn it. He was the first of his children to let Bruce tag the Wayne name on and it mattered, damn it. "Wait do you mean-"
"How about reports of him kissing a man while there?"
"A blond man?" Bruce asked, finally giving up and crossing to take the photo for himself. "Oh. No, that's his boyfriend."
There was a beat of silence before Bruce realized his mistake. Just as the reporters began to squall, he dropped the blurry photo and began to speed walk off, phone suddenly in hand.
Through the podium's microphone, the gathered reporters heard one thing as Bruce evacuated the immediate vicinity.
"Tim? Don't be mad."
---
Despite Bruce's best efforts, he becomes a meme.
---
Immediately following the bombshell that Timothy Drake-Wayne had a boyfriend, social media blows up, clamoring for more information. They're ravenous for it, desperate. Tim doesn't have a personal social media presence but they stalk his professional accounts religiously. Bruce does have personal social media, but he maintains radio silence.
In the end, a Gotham based "influencer" stumbles across Dick Grayson and Damian Wayne getting donuts at Kosher Donuts and Co. Dick is personable, as always, and stops to speak with the young woman briefly.
"Yeah, Tim wasn't mad," he laughs when asked. "Just disappointed. But man, he knows how to milk it."
"Bruce is in the doghouse, huh?" she asks, full of false sympathy.
"A little bit," Dick says as Damian mumbles, "Titus would never share."
"But," Dick continued. "Tim's spun it so Bruce is on the hook for like, half a million in donations for local LGBT charities. Tim says it would hurt less if he sponsored a new shelter too, so that's something to look forward to."
"That's a lot of money! Where's it all going?"
"Oh you know," Dick says and gestures vaguely. "A lot of different programs."
"Yeah? Anything you personally want to see done with the funding?"
"Drag story time," Damian answers before Dick can. He looks intense. "But not for children. For dogs. In the shelter."
---
A day later, Tim breaks the silence. He goes live on Bruce's Instagram.
"So the problem was that Bruce thought the reporter was saying I was being unfaithful," Tim explains. "He totally forgot I wasn't out to everyone yet. Bruce was just worried because he's already told me if I break up with my boyfriend, he's not uninviting him from any future family events."
"Luckily, I was in fact just kissing my boyfriend at PRIDE. Just because people got shifty with the permits at the last second because of protestors doesn't make it an illegal mob. If you wanna hear about Wayne's and illegal mobs, talk to Dickie about his younger years. Nothing I do can compare."
call it what you want pt8.
matt sturniolo x fem reader
an: yall my taglist is not working. trust me i have tried to tag you guys it just won’t let me 💔
Tumblr media
“well this is a sight for sore eyes”.
you had never moved so fast in your life, you launched yourself off of matts lap, scurrying to your feet, turning to face the voice.
“mom, what are you doing here?” you asked out of breath.
“i could ask you the same thing. what are YOU doing here? in the boys locker room, with him?” she said, folding her arms, raising her eyebrows, and pursing her lips, staring straight at your red face.
“we were just-“ you began before matt, stood up cutting you off.
“mrs kats, i’m matt sturniolo” he said, jabbing his hand out for her to shake.
she didn’t even flinch, she just looked down at his hand in disgust, before bringing her eyes back up to his in a jagged stare.
“i know who you are, and i know what you are, and from what i can see you’ve already made your mark on my daughter” she spat.
“mom” you muttered, as a warning for her to stop.
“what? i’m not the one getting into fights, i’m not the one sticking my tongue down someone’s throat in the boys locker room, while that poor girl nurses a broken nose” she said, raising her voice slightly.
she was pissed.
she stared at you for a second, and when you gave in and looked to the floor, swallowing, she moved her gaze over to matt, letting her eyes linger on his for a second before speaking.
out of the corner of your eye, you watched him squirm under her cold regard.
“and as for you, i suggest you stay as far away from my daughter as you possibly can, or i will have your whole world come crashing down and you will land straight on your ass” she sneered at him. her voice was low and intimidating.
any normal person would’ve crumbled under this type of hounding, but whatever voice spoke inside of matt sturniolo’s head, was a fucking menace.
there was a brief pause, both of them just staring at each other, and when you finally looked up, you wished you could’ve took a photo.
your mother stood in front of matt, face hard, with her arms crossed, looking like she was about to ring his neck, and the devil child of matt sturniolo stood with his hands behind his back, looking calm and collected, with that shit eating smirk on his face that made your knees a little weak.
you weren’t sure how much longer this stand off was going to carry on for, but the anticipation was eating you alive.
suddenly, matt sucked in a breath, turning away from your mother, and sauntering over to you before placing a kiss on your temple and speaking up.
“i’ll meet you in the car baby” he cooed.
lord have mercy.
-
“and i don’t know how she didn’t drag me home by my hair, she just let me go!” you exclaimed, throwing your hands up in the air and dropping them back down.
“she didn’t even try to stop you?” nick asked, quirking his brow.
“i mean yeah but she didn’t put up much of a fight, she just told me i shouldn’t go, and that he’s a bad influence and shit” you replied, pulling your knees up to your chest.
“same old story” chris added, not taking his eyes off of his phone.
somehow, you had ended up at the triplets house, without your mother starting ww3. you hadn’t heard a word, from your dad or caden, and it was a little more concerning than you would like to admit.
the 4 of you were in the living room, chris slumped on the couch, playing some game, you and nick sitting on the floor, and matt on the other couch, mindlessly scrolling through his phone, not even paying attention to the conversation.
neither of you had spoken to each other since the locker room incident. he hadn’t even looked at you.
it was so confusing, because every time you felt like the two of you were getting somewhere, matt would push you back out again.
in a weird way, it was a comforting atmosphere. chris and nick didn’t know, and neither you or matt were prepared to mention it, and realistically, it was better that way.
talking about it would solve nothing. both of you would still hate each other, and you would both still regret it. so what was the point.
-
3:46am
this is exhausting. tossing and turning. you just couldn’t fall asleep. the whole day had been playing on your mind. you couldn’t wrap your head around how so much had happened in such a short amount of time.
nick lay next to you dead asleep, chris and matt upstairs in their own rooms. maybe if you just tried to talk to matt, you would stop thinking about it.
imessage
y/n: are you awake?
matt: what do you want.
y/n: can we talk?
matt: sure.
you found yourself outside his bedroom door, too nervous to go in. why? this needed to be done. you were confused and the two of you were just going in swings and roundabouts.
“are you gonna come in or just stand there like a creep?”
fuck.
you pushed the door open, to be met with matt sitting on his bed, with his phone in his hand. this was awkward. you’d never been in his room before, despite knowing him for 10 years. you never had any reason to.
you padded over to him and took a seat on the side of his bed, next to his legs. you sat silent for a second, looking at him and waiting for him to acknowledge you. he sighed and threw his phone down before meeting your eyes.
“um…i wanted to talk about what happened earlier” you spoke, voice shaky.
he just blinked at you, waiting for you to continue.
you sucked in a breath before just accepting defeat.
“i don’t know what’s going on matt. you treat me like shit and act like you hate me, and then you kiss me? you stood up against elijah, but you’re still so cold towards me? what does this mean?” you frowned at him.
he chewed on his lip for a second, dropping his gaze to his hands in his lap.
the truth was, matt didn’t know what was going on either. he was just as confused as you were and it had completely knocked the wind out of him.
“i just kissed you. it meant nothing. you’re thinking way too deep into it. i figured someone would walk in so that’s why i did it” he shrugged. looking at you with no emotion behind his eyes, and it made your heart ache a little.
“but the whole elijah thing…” you trailed off. “i want to be with him, matt, you can’t kiss me and then pretend like it was nothing.”
“that was just to keep up the act y/n. you’re getting ahead of yourself like you always fucking do” he spat. his voice firm.
you dropped your eyes to your feet, as he stood up, walking over to his desk and messing with something.
“you can’t just kiss me matt, it’s not fair” you whispered, still not looking at him.
he scoffed. “why y/n? because you’re scared of finally getting over him?” you snapped your head up to meet his face, his eyebrows raised in question.
“what are you talking about?” you asked, confused expression on your face.
he turned to face you, looking down like he had the upper hand. he shoved his hands in his pockets before taking a breath in.
“don’t try to act dumb y/n. you crave whatever fucking havoc he brings you. and that is the whole reason you want to be back with him” his voice was quiet but harsh.
“what are you saying matt?” you just simply couldn’t understand why he was talking about this. matt kissed you and that was your concern, not what elijah brought to the table.
“you are too fucking weak to walk away from him. you don’t see what he does, but everyone else around you is laughing it up, watching you fall at his fucking feet. he’ll call you mean names, cheat on you, lie to you, humiliate you, then he will wrap you up, tell you he loves you, let you cry in his arms for his behaviour, and you will believe it. just like the 200 fucking times you have before. but it’s okay right? because his presence is the cure to all the damage he’s done” he spat. he was now in your face, seething.
tears brimmed your waterline. the heavy weight of his words, pressed on your chest. partially because it was true. partially because of the fact it was so obvious what he had done to you.
this was not matts call to make. he had no business knowing this and it was definitely not his place to make you feel like this, because out of all the things elijah has done, he has never been as fucking vile as matthew sturniolo.
“yeah that’s right, you’ll cry, and you’ll say ‘you’re right’ and everyone will feel bad for you, and then in a months time when elijah has you under whatever fucking spell it is that makes you fucking swoon, you’ll go back to him, because whatever damage he has done is so deep rooted and rotten inside of you, it is permanent and you will never get rid of it, no matter how had you fucking try.” matt hissed. his words were dripping with venom, and every single one had poked a hole in the small part of you that still had hope for matt being anything less than the most vile human being to ever walk the earth.
the tears were now full force streaming down your face, as you stared at him with wide eyes, desperately trying to process where this was coming from.
matt almost laughed at your state. his face was cold and switched off and the look behind his eyes was nothing but complete loathing.
you couldn’t even string together a sentence, you just sat there weeping like a wounded dog, trying to fathom how someone who never even gave you the time of day, had you all figured out.
the sound of you sobbing, changed something in matt, and it was like he had suddenly snapped out of this evil trance. his face fell, and his chest ached.
he knew it wasn’t your fault. it was familiarity, consistency. elijah was a fucking disease that you couldn’t fight off no matter how hard you tried.
matt breathed and took a step closer to you, placing a hand on the side of your head. “y/n”. he whispered, in a sad tone.
you shoved him off and stood up abruptly, wiping your face. you wasn’t going to let him pull you back in.
“no matt, you got your point across” you spoke with a shakey voice, putting distance between the two of you. he just stared at you with furrowed brows. before reaching a hand out to grab your arm gently, but you pulled away before he even got the chance, and walked out of his room, slamming the door behind you.
he was on your tail instantly, following you down the hallway.
“y/n wait”
no reply.
“i’m sorry, please just stop”
no reply.
“will you fucking stop!” he yelled. reaching out and grabbing your arm just before you got to the stairs.
when you turned around, he almost fell to his knees and begged for forgiveness when he saw you.
your eyes were glossy and red, and your nose and cheeks were pink, and stained with tear lines.
he did this to you.
“what matt? you got a few more in you, go ahead i’m all ears” you yelled back, with a broken voice.
he sighed and shook his head.
“i’m sorry” he whispered. you just laughed sadly and looked up at the ceiling. he wasn’t sorry.
“i didn’t mean what i said” he swallowed.
“oh i think you meant every fucking word so don’t try and lie to me” you spat through clenched teeth.
he just stared at you wide eyed, trying to think of some way he could make this better.
matt wasn’t lying. he was disgusted with what he has said. it was just one of those moments where angry people say mean things.
he watched as your face contoured. brows furrowed. pursed lips. eyes pinched. desperate to hold in any more tears that so dangerously threatened to spil.
you scoffed in his face, and turned, bolting down the stairs and as far away from matt as you could get, he didn’t even try to stop you. he just stood staring at the spot where you used to be.
and suddenly he realised, you would never truly heal. the pain would eventually be gone but the heart shaped scars elijah left behind would never fade.
Texas Heat | Joel x Reader
Tumblr media
Chapter 1 - Worst Decision, Best Decision
Series masterlist
Chapter Summary: You've just finished a Masters back home in England, and, with little idea of what you want to do next, decide to spend the summer in Texas, staying with your mum's cousins, the Adlers. But its not the Adlers who pick you up from the airport: it's their handsome neighbour, Joel. Rating: Teen (for now) Tags/warnings: slow burn, eventual smut, age difference (reader is 25, Joel is 37), AU! no outbreak, porn with plot. Word Count: 1.7k
The Texas heat is something else. You’ve hardly been stateside more than two hours and already it feels overwhelming, cloying and claustrophobic. It doesn’t help that the air-conditioning in the airport is sporadic and patchy. By the time you make it through security, into the dry heat of arrivals, your shirt is sticking to your back, hair plastered to your forehead and you’re wondering why you ever let your mother persuade you this was a good idea.
“Go to Texas,” she’d suggested, when you arrived home from your last university term, unsure of what to do or where to begin with starting a life for yourself, “stay with the Adlers – they’re family and god knows Connie would love to see you. Spend the summer there – see what happens.”
And so here you are, too old for a gap year, really, at twenty-five, too young to commit to anything for more than a summer, dragging your suitcase – one broken wheel courtesy of British Airways – through arrivals, wondering if you’ve just made the worst decision of your life. Danny and Connie are strangers but for the fact that they’re your mum’s cousins, though you’ve seen enough photos of them to know who you’re looking for. You look out over the crowded lounge, trying to spot them.
The man your eyes fall on definitely isn’t Mr or Mrs Adler, but he’s holding a sign that bears your name (along with an assortment of hearts and two poorly drawn butterflies). He’s younger than Danny and Connie, maybe late thirties, dark hair curling around his ears, a patchy beard that only accentuates the strong line of his jaw and nose. His eyes – dark, hooded – are searching the crowd of passengers emerging from arrivals. You slow, watching the man, wondering who he is, wracking your brains to remember if the Adlers have a son or brother they haven’t mentioned before in their letters and Christmas cards, but you come up blank.
Eventually, while you’re still wondering who this man is and why he’s got a board bearing your name, your eyes lock with his. He raises his eyebrows – a question – and you sigh, start off towards him, the broken suitcase bumping against your ankles. When you reach him he holds out a hand for you to shake.
“’m Joel,” he says, voice deep, a smooth Southern drawl that you thought only existed in movies, “I’m Danny’s neighbour. They’re sorry they couldn’t be here, they had to take Mrs Adler – Nana – to a hospital appointment. I’m gonna drive you back to theirs, if that’s alright?”
“Of course,” You take the offered hand, shake it, trying not to think about how large it feels compared to your own, how much strength seems to rest in the callused palms and thick fingers. I’m guessing you didn’t make that sign?”
Joel looks at the name card in his other hand, colour rising on his cheeks as he takes in the love hearts and butterflies that have been painted onto it.
“I can’t say I did.” He replies, “You’ve got Connie to thank for that.”
You laugh and he smirks too, mouth curving up with amusement, eyes crinkling as he does.
“I’m parked right outside,” he says, “I can take that, if you want?”
You hand him the suitcase, about to warn him about the broken wheel but he lifts it easily by the handle, the weight nothing to the shifting muscles that stretch the sleeves of his t-shirt.
His truck is huge, obscenely large compared to the cars you’re used to seeing back home in England. You clamber in, take in the toolboxes in the bed, a hard hat strewn on the back seat, large work boots in the footwell that dwarf your own battered Converse.
“‘scuse the mess.” Joel says, getting into the driver’s seat. “Been a busy week.”
“You’re a builder?” You ask.
“Contractor. Me ‘n my brother, though mostly me, if I’m being honest. You?” He asks the question without looking at you, already starting the engine, something grating in the ignition as he does so.
“Nothing, yet.” You reply, pulling your seatbelt on, “I just finished university – college – and I’m still kind of figuring it out.”
“What did you study?”
“Maths, then a Masters in Theoretical Physics.”
“Shit, smart girl.”
Something about the way he says this, his eyes lingering perhaps a little longer than they need to on your face as he does so, makes your stomach flip.
“Know what you’re going to do with it, now you’re done?”
“Not a clue,” You reply, looking out of the window as the city opens out around the truck.
“Well, don’t rush into anything. Nothing like your twenties to spend messing around trying things out.”
“That what you did?”
He scoffs out a laugh at this, gives you a sideways look. “Not exactly. I had a kid at twenty-two and spent the rest of my twenties figuring that out. Still am, really.” He pauses, flicks his sun visor down and taps a small polaroid that’s slid into the back of the mirror. “She’s thirteen now. Sarah.”
The girl in the photograph is pretty, all bright eyes and curly hair. She’s leaning back in a chair, giggling at something the photographer has just said.
“She’s beautiful,” You say, and you can see the pride bubbling up in him as he flips the visor back up.
“Smart, too. Struggles a bit with math, now they’ve started bringing in algebra. I’m not much help, either. Once you get past adding and minusing, I’m lost.”
You laugh at this, grin at him. “I’d be happy to help out. God knows I’ll have plenty of free time, and I like teaching.”
“Might just take you up on that.” He replies, giving you a soft smile in return.
There’s a dimple in his cheek as he does so, visible only through the patchiness of his beard. He seems to get more and more handsome the longer you look at him. Leaning back in the truck, you can’t help but let your eyes trace his profile, the strong curve of his nose, plushness of his lips. It’s more fascinating than the concrete jungle that’s passing by the windows of the truck.
He’s a good driver: steady, reassuringly confident. He lets one arm rest across the back of the truck’s long seat, the other gently holding the steering wheel, guiding the truck down the freeway. If you laid your head back against the seat it would rest in the curve of his wrist. You don’t, but you can feel the heat rolling off of his arm anyway on the back of your neck, warm in contrast to the cool air blowing through the AC unit. You let your eyes gently close, jetlag starting to creep up on you. Your limbs are stiff and sore from the long plane journey. The hot sun beats down through the windscreen, casting patterns on your closed eyelids. It’s peaceful, here, in the truck with this handsome stranger, and before you know it you’ve fallen asleep, head lolling back on the seat.
Next thing you know Joel’s gently saying your name, one large hand on your shoulder, rousing you from sleep. You open your eyes, squint against the bright sun. He’s parked up in the driveway of a large, brick built house on a suburban street. The garage door is open: tools are stacked up inside, ladders and racks of scaffolding. The drive and lawn are neat, a little scrubby from the heat. You turn, look over at a house you recognise as the Adler’s, the one you’ve seen in it family photographs sent with the yearly Christmas card. Your new home, for the next three months.
Joel holds the door of the truck open for you and your climb out, get your feet down on the solid concrete driveway. He moves round to the back, tugs out your suitcase like it weighs nothing, even though your arms are still aching from dragging it through security hours earlier.
“Connie left me the key,” Joel says, reaching a hand into the back pocket of his jeans and pulling out a brass key on a flowery keyring. “I’ll help you get your stuff in, then leave you to settle in. Connie and Danny should be back in an hour or so.”
The Adler’s house is nice. Quaint, a little dated, décor straight from the 1980s, but it’s homely. You feel settled immediately. There’s a photograph of your mum on the bookshelf, from back when she was a kid, long before she moved from Texas to London.
Joel puts your suitcase at the foot of the stairs, asks if you want him to take it up for you, but you’re not sure which room you’re staying in so you tell him to leave it, that you can sort it out later. There’s a whining from the back room and you look at Joel, questioningly.
“That’ll be Mercy,” He says, moving through the hall to the kitchen, swinging open the door.
A bundle of fur throws itself down the hallway towards you, tail wagging. Joel watches, grin on his face as you bury your face in the dog’s soft coat and wrap your arms around him.
“I’d better head off,” He says when you stand up, brushing fur from your clothes. “You need anything, just give me a shout. You know where I am.”
“Thanks, Joel.” You say, watching him pull open the door, t-shirt bunching up around his shoulders revealing a tanned strip of skin just above the waistband of his faded jeans. “And I meant what I said about helping Sarah with that maths homework.” You add as he steps out onto the porch.
He turns back, shields his eyes from the sun to look at you, mouth turned up in a grin. “And I might just take you up on that, darlin’.”
And then he’s gone, long strides taking him back across the lawn and towards his own house. You lean back against the closed door and shut your eyes, basking in the imprint of Joel’s handsome face etched on the back of your eyelids, wondering if you’ve just made the best decision of your life.
