Mozzie got kicked out of boy scouts for cheating, something about the pine box derby and magnets.

WELL. I was watching white collar with my dad and he grabs the remote and goes “Oh my god. I know what he’s talking about!! That happened when I was in scouts!” So story time.

Boy scouts way back when used to have a race called the pine box derby. Scouts would have to build some sort of a car out of carts/boxes/whatever they could find. They’d attach wheels and basically make as good of a little race car as they could. Now. At the start of the race, all the cars would line up on a hill and be held in place by a big metal slab. When the bell sounded, the slab would fall forward and all the cars would roll down the hill. But because the slab was metal, that meant it was magnetic. If you wanted to cheat, you would find yourself some industrial strength magnets and imbed them in the front of your little car. They would attach to the slab and when it fell forward the magnets would pull your car forward with it giving you the extra boost forward to win.

Mozzie’s been out here playing work smarter not harder since he was a literal child.

Mozzie did this to me. He was getting ready to jump up on the counter (illegal in our house) so I got between him and the counter and was like "no dude, not okay."

He gave me a mildly irritated look and moved to a different spot and got ready to jump up.

I got between him and the counter.

We went back and forth for a few rounds, and I swear, every time I got in his way, he gave me this "dude, what is your DEAL I am trying to DO SOMETHING here" irritated kind of look, like I was interrupting his Important Task.

The only thing that got him to stop and move on was to let him jump up, then immediately evict him. Goofball cat.

love when you stop a cat from doing something and instead of understanding that they shouldnt be doing that theyre just like. ah sorry my good sir you seem to have interrupted me. no worries let me just shimmy past you and get a taste of that pan of hot oil. please.

I'm so tired today.

I was getting ready to sleep, I heard a buzzing by my ear, I turned my light on, slapped the little mosquito and went back to bed...

I heard a buzzing by my ear again, frustrated I turned the light on, slapped ANOTHER little mosquito and went back to my bed... I heard ANOTHER BUZZ and I felt like I was going mad.

I turned the light on, swiveled my head in all directions and saw the new aggressor was on the ceiling. I frantically waved at it hoping it would move lower down the wall but he kept dancing across the ceiling.

Luckily he was above my chair, I needed something long with reach so with duster in hand I smooshed him.

My boyfriend pointed him out on the wall, I was annoyed he was still alive but grateful someone else had seen it, I wasn't going mad after all.

I smack him with a slim beam of wood I had been hoarding for some unknown reason, unaware that fate had led us to this moment, weapon in hand we struck. I struck again and again and again reaching the other side of the room finally he had lowered himself, perhaps feeling pity for me, but this was his mistake. I bested him finally, his remains painting my cream coloured walls.

Tired and defeated I said "I'll sleep on the couch tonight, I've kept you awake for long enough."

I breathed a sigh and clutching a pillow I trudged to the door and saw it. Another mosquito. I slapped it lazily and chuckled at how absurd this all was.

I made my way to my new camp for the night, the grey mottled couch was where I'd be resting my head. As I drifted into slumber it occurred to me, had my boyfriend been wearing his glasses when he pointed out the mosquito? Perhaps he had seen the remains of a previous escapade I'd had with an unlucky insectoid weeks prior. I couldn't worry about that now, sleep had me in her sweet embrace.

When I awoke the next morning I groggily wandered back to the bedroom, back to where it had all happened. "So that wasn't just a dream huh?" I said under my breath looking at my discarded weapons. As I picked them up to put them away (why I was still holding onto the wood I'll never know. Perhaps fate has more plans for us in the future), I lifted my head to see the result of my fight and...

Trovo in un vocabolario, come esempio, questa frase (tratta dalle «Storie fiorentine» di Benedetto Varchi: «Volentieri faceva stravizii, e si trovava, benché vecchio, a tafferugli in giuochi e tresche con giovani».

È una bella frase, con tre divertenti etimologie.

«Stravizio» non è un accrescitivo (col prefisso «stra-») di «vizio»; ma una parola che viene dalla Croazia: «zdravica» in croato è il brindisi, e per metonimia la festa. Un’occasione per trincare, insomma (e, già che ci siamo: trincare è ovviamente parola germanica, da «trinken», bere – da cui anche il «drink, drank, drunk» inglese); e nel trincare, si sa, facilmente si rischia l’eccesso. Bere troppo è un vizio, bere troppo continuamente è straviziare: ovviamente la somiglianza tra «vizio» e «stravizio», e l’illusione che «stra-» fosse un prefisso accrescitivo, ha facilitato l’accostamento delle due parole.

«Tafferuglio» è parola araba: «tafarruǧ», ovvero piacevole spettacolo; entrata in italiano nel senso di «baldoria chiassosa», così chiassosa (e stravizievole, magari) da includere l’idea di qualche scappellotto che vola (e: sì, lo scappellotto è una sberla da dietro, che fa volare via il cappello). Una volta si trebbiava spargendo il grano sull’aia e saltellandoci sopra, magari a suon di musica o canti: quindi «trescare» arriva in Italia nel senso di «ballare in gruppo» (un «ballo saltereccio», come dice il Tommaseo); trattandosi di un ballo nel quale spesso ci si incrociava e ci si scambiava di posto, entra il significato di «intreccio»: perciò «trescare» si avvicina a «tramare», nel senso di «organizzare un intrigo». Ma a che cosa serve, sapere queste cose? A niente, se volete; ma serve a molto avere coscienza, quando si scrive, di che cosa è la nostra lingua e del suo spessore storico.

I love reading but I can’t finish a book for the life of me. I mean I do eventually. I just almost finish like five books then finish them all at once so I can say (hey look I’ve finished five books in one day) I can actually read quite fast if I’m motivated to but boredom, mental illness and my screentime sorta make that less of a rare thing, more of an endangered on.

I made this rlly good online friend last year and they were a marauders fan and introduced it to me and got me to read choices. They lived across the globe from me so I’d stay up all night talking to them on insta and then we’d tell eachother about our days and shit. Then my mum found out I had an online friend and tried to like… organise a call with their mum and shit, then there was a whole kerfuffle and both of us just stopped talking to eachother, it was rlly sad. But when we were talking we were so exited we’d talk in all caps and misspell everything so my phone just got used to it and started autocorrecting like that. So if you ever see one of those random words just know they happened out of fervent gay maraudersness.

neal caffrey x fem!reader (romantic)

summary: when neal falls in love with a girl who owns a bakery in the city and dreams of a cottage in the woods . based on this request .

the first time neal met her, she had just come out of the bakery’s kitchen, smiling at him as she laid out new loaves on the shelf labeled, “sourdough.” elizabeth had been raving about the new bakery that opened up not too far from the office, and he felt a pull to go there. he found it especially ironic that he once bought a bakery, chuckling to himself about how different this one would be. it definitely wouldn’t involve him jumping out of a window onto the awning. 

he walked inside, the door chiming a voice from the back yelling out to give her just a minute! he stood in front of the display case, met with some of the most beautiful pastries he’d ever seen. a variety of croissants, pain au chocolat, peach and strawberry chaussons – there were so many of them. and the amount of bread that adorned each shelf was incredible. each bread was separated from one another, a label underneath each and atop it all was a sign with the labels “boule – 6.50” and “batard – $7.50” 

the rest of the bakery was beautiful as well. the walls were covered in golden oak panels, refinished to look like they had a long history. there was a case in the front right corner of multiple different flowers, and there were baskets near the pastry display cases of lavender and wildflowers. they were tied together with various colours of ribbon, a bow at the front of each bouquet to complete them. on the opposing side from the flower case was a shelf of honey jars, with a cute yellow sign reading, “honey, home-grown and fresh! bees are well taken care of :) $5.00”

he smiled at how sweetly everything was put together. he knew a lot of thought had gone into this place, and everything was so pretty. not only that, but the smell of pastries in the case made his mouth water. he knew he needed to buy a bunch to bring back to the office, and a few extra on top of that to give to mozzie.   

when she walked out from the kitchen area as he was surveying the palce, sourdough loaves in hand and smiling at him, neal thought he’d gone to heaven right then and there. she had the brightest, most beautiful smile he’d ever seen. he wanted to see that smile over and over again for the rest of his life. he felt his own mouth immediately rise into a smile as well as he looked at her restocking the sourdough loaves. 

“i see those are popular,” he said once she turned back towards him.

“oh, yes! they go out of stock really early in the morning, but today i made some extra. poor cin-dough-ella is being put to serious work every day for that bread,” she said, frowning at the end.

“cin-dough-ella?” neal asked, curious to what she meant. what the hell is a cin-dough-ella?

“that’s what i named my sourdough starter! she’s been in the family for years now, it felt right to finally give her a name,” she nodded, content, before continuing, “anyways, what can i get you today?” 

“definitely one of those sourdough loaves,” neal replied, grinning at her.

after the loaves of bread, he got two entire boxes of pastries filled: one for home (to share with mozzie and june, of course) and one for the office. he kept making small-talk with the bakery owner, liking her more and more as the minutes passed. once he paid, he thanked her and left. he was only 20 steps away from the bakery when he decided to turn back around and ask for her number. so began their love story.

he since learned that she always wanted to own a bakery, but she never expected for it to be in the city. she always thought it’d be in the countryside, where she’d live in a cottage and perhaps even have her own animals. plans change, though, and she ended up moving to the city for reasons out of her control. she was quite happy here, though, and having the bakery at least solved one part of the equation. 

neal was happy that she moved here, and that he had met her when he did. they’d gone on three dates since their first meeting before making it official. it’s been three years since then, and they were more in love than the first time they met.

neal often came home to their shared apartment and found her baking. she was always trying new recipes and wanting to welcome him home with a fresh pastry. he had absolutely no complaints about that. he also found a way to make her cottage dreams come true, being able to get his hands on a beautiful home in the countryside that they could go to for vacations. he still has the memory etched in his mind from when he surprised her with the cottage, the smile she had on her face as happy tears rolled down her face. she hugged him so hard, whispering thank you’s into his neck.

he would always do what he could to make her happy, and she gave back as much as she could. they both had their bad days. ones where she would have an unsuccessful day at the bakery and felt discouraged, and he’d remind her that tomorrow is a new day. he’d hug her and comfort her and love her all the ways she needed to be loved. and there were the days where neal would come home after an awful day working on a new case, feeling hopeless and like he couldn’t do anything to help. and she’d remind him that he was the smartest man she knew, that he knew what he was doing, and that maybe he needed to look at the case from a new angle. she’d remind him of how beautiful his heart was and hold him and love him all the ways he needed to be loved. 

from the moment they locked eyes on that first day, smiles adorned on both of their faces, it was written into the world that they were it for each other. there was no love greater than the one they held for each other. always putting one another above anything else, making time to spend together, ensuring that they were always prioritized and never felt pushed away. it wasn’t always perfect, but they were a team as much as they were lovers and it worked.  

neal’s love with the girl who owns a bakery, one who loves wildflowers and wants a cottage in the woods is one he wouldn’t give up for anything. and maybe one day, when they no longer want to live in the city, they’ll move full time to that cottage in the countryside and raise cows and bees and sheep together. she’d teach him how to make sourdough bread and pain au chocolat, and he’d do the handiwork around their home and make the best wine they’d ever tasted. this love would be absolute bliss, and it would last forever. it would leave them sitting on their porch, old and grey, hand in hand as they still love one another just as much as they did when they were young.

Yuki Note:

I adore this story so much! I have often thought Dick would’ve been a better parent to Tim than (canon) Bruce so I love seeing that play out in this fic (and in rec 3 too). And Dick working a job that fills him with so much joy as a gymnastics instructor is just mwah! This fic is set a little more in the real world than some others because it’s about Tim joining Dick’s gymnastics class and so Dick slowly noticing everything off about Tim whilst emotionally adopting him. Does that emotional adoption become real adoption by the end? Well, you’ll have to read it and see! I cannot recommend this one highly enough.

Oh My Gosh! Oh My Gosh! Oh My Gosh! This is such an amazing story! I love it so much! Please, give this read. Unless you dislike Roy/Jason, you are going to love this fic! I promise, it doesn’t matter if you haven’t watched White Stuff, you really don’t have to have watched it. as I haven’t either. This story just tells itself. I love Jason and Lian’s daddy-daughter relationship, I love how the White Stuff team and the Batfam pull together to support Jason looking after his new daughter, I love Jason pining after Roy (they’re not together in the beginning) and his and Lian’s quiet grief about Roy’s possible death. Just, this story is so perfect. Highly recommend!

Jason and Roy are in an already established relationship (I think they are married!). This one is more of a bit of a fun, rather than rec 2’s more serious take. So, if you want a comforting read, then this is for you. Recommend!

I actually want to recommend the entire Little Red series (but the series has so many tags on it that the first fic was easier to include in this post). It’s so good! It’s written non-chronologically but it’s good. The series is about Jason Todd as Red Hood adopting little kid Tim Drake as his kid. To clarify, Tim is a lot younger than in canon in this fic and he’s never been Robin but instead he had been following Batman around with a med kit to fix as much as his little hands can. This is such a sweet, fluffy with just a touch of angst read. The series is 18 fics long but, Goodness, is it worth a read! Recommended!

A riveting story of mystery and intrigue, as both the characters and us readers try to find the truth beneath in this fic. Whilst this isn’t a parental former Robin fic like the other recs on this list, it is a crossover like recs 2 and 4 so it felt like a good time to include it in a rec list. Although, the crossover is with Criminal Minds – a series I also have not watched so you don’t need to have either! Honestly, I don’t want to say too much in case I spoil this thriller of a fic. Dick Grayson: A Case Study will keep you on the edge of your seat to the very end. It is really worth a read. If you are considering it, then go for it! Highly recommend!

Update about rewatching the 2009 crime drama, White Collar with my 60 year old mother: I have successfully completely convinced my mom that Neal Caffrey is gay and is 100% in love with his FBI partner, Peter Burke. Every single episode when the show has Neal flirt with women, my mom comments about how little she buys that relationship, and whenever the show has Neal and Peter visibly care about each other, my mom comments that it’s because he’s his boyfriend. We are in Season 3, and she has framed Neal’s decision to stay with Peter or go on the run with his crime partner Mozzie as a gay love triangle. Today, my mom told me how much she enjoys rewatching it specifically because seeing it as a love story between the two leads has added a dimension that wasn’t there before. Welcome aboard the ship, mom. 👍
