A bit of white collar fanfiction and the ramblings of a restless mind. "After the dazzle of day is gone, Only the dark, dark night shows to my eyes the stars; After the clangor of organ majestic, or chorus, or perfect band, Silent, athwart my soul, moves the symphony true." -WW

I wish depression were an emergency. I wish someone could take one look at how sick I am and go “oh my god, we need to get you to a hospital!” and then when we get there I get rushed into surgery and the surgeons say “it’s a good thing you brought her here when you did, this is a seriously advanced case” and then they put me under and spend the next ten hours pulling metres of long, sticky black strands of gunk out of my body, throwing it immediately into an incinerator so that it can’t infect anyone else. And then they could stitch me back up and I could rest a few days, and when I leave the hospital everyone can see how much better I am and they congratulate me saying “well done, you’ve been so brave, I’m so glad you’re ok. I love you.”

Americans, if you donate at least $60 to PBS, you get access to Passport, their streaming service.
The $60 can be a one time donation (access for a year) or $5 a month. (Or of course, you donate more if you have it.)
Passport streams all the PBS programming, so documentaries, mysteries, musical programs, and news that you can get through PBS. Like Grantchester or Wolf Hall or other period dramas, or Ken Burns docs, or cooking shows, travel shows, Lucy Worsley stuff, mysteries, Jane Austen. All the nerdy things!
You also will occasionally get notices about local events where you, as a PBS member, can get in free or discounted to museums or concerts in your area.
This is just a bonus. You can also just donate whatever, whenever you feel like it.
You select a local PBS station but your donation goes across the entire system. You can do monthly or one time.
Also some employers will match donations. Your employer might!

Well here is the excerpt!!! (With mild fic spoilers )—-the name stuff is at the end of the excerpt:
*************
It was Monday morning and Peter was feeling good. He loved Mondays. He knew the rest of the world was programmed to hate them, but something about a fresh week, fresh cup of coffee, and a pile of cases on his desk made him nothing short of giddy. He thumbed through the cases, reading their summaries and deciding which one he and Neal should get started on today.
Possibly the last case in our arrangement. He thought and smiled at this. No, Neal hadn’t exactly accepted Peter’s job offer yet, but with the events of late, Peter was certain that he would.
He lifted his head and scanned the office, spotting Neal sauntering in, coffee in hand.
“Neal!” He called out, beckoning him into his office.
Neal grinned and came to meet him. “‘Morning, Peter!” he flipped off his fedora, rolled it down his arm, and plopped it on Peter’s desk.
Peter eyed Neal as the smile did not leave his face.
Peter chuckled, “Well I’d ask how you are but your face says it all.”
“What?” Neal said, still smiling.
“Oh nothing,” Peter murmured, pulling up an interesting file he’d glanced at earlier.
You’re happy.
“Take a look at this: original musical manuscripts from the Baroque to Impressionistic Eras were discovered to be forgeries last week.” Peter glanced over at Neal, “Want to take a look at ‘em?”
Neal’s smile grew even wider (if that were possible). “You know I do!”
“Let’s head to the Met.”
“Oh Peter,” Neal placed a hand on his heart with a sarcastic fondness. “Why are you catering to my needs today?”
“It’s our last case with your jewelry,” Peter nodded at Neal’s anklet, blinking emotionless at his feet. “I need it to be one that convinces you to keep working with me.”
“Does that mean I get to browse the modern art gallery—”
“Don’t get carried away.”
They both grinned, Neal grabbed his hat, and the two men walked towards the elevator.
It’s going to be a great week. Peter thought blissfully.
Once they reached the Met, it took every inch of Peter's patience reign Neal in and keep him waiting for their contact in the Lobby. He was like a child in a toy store, wanting to explore, eyes large and eager.
“Peter please can I just go take a peek at the Modern and Contemporary Gallery? Real quick. I just want to—”
“No.”
"Renaissance Art? It's right around the corner. You know getting the lines right with that genre is a specialty of mine."
"Was a specialty, I hope and also...no."
"Okay there is a sculpture literally fifty feet away---pleeeeasseeee..."
Neal's blue puppy dog eyes were having zero effect on Peter, who was quite over this conversation. The last thing he needed was Neal getting tempted right before his sentence was up. He needed Neal focused. He needed this case to go smoothly so when the papers were signed next week there were no doubts in anyone's mind that Neal deserved to be free.
"Neal we are on a case, this isn't a field trip!" Peter barked quietly.
Neal leaned in, whispering, “In two weeks…I will be free to browse it all I want. Why restrict me now?”
“Because we are on assignment, it’s not free time.” Peter huffed and then paused, his heart doing a little jump. “Wait. Are you considering…staying?”
They locked eyes, the gentle hum of the museum falling silent. Peter studied Neal’s expression, which, although he’d been grinning ear to ear since coming in this morning, had grown more serious.
Neal broke the air with a half-hearted smile and gazed longingly in the direction of the sculpture he had mentioned earlier, “Well Peter, I think my decision was made for me.”
Peter's heart softened.
Oh Neal.
He wanted to reach out and touch the kid, to talk to him about the whole you're-gonna-be-a-dad thing, but considering he'd just lectured about them being "on assignment," Peter just stood there and observed the dark haired man starting at an ancient sculpture with concentrated eyes, lost in another world. Peter hadn't stopped to consider that Neal had been thrown a lot of life changes in the course of a few days and despite all of them being positive, they were still changes. They were changes that solidified Neal's life here in New York. Something that Peter wanted for Neal, but sometimes was unsure whether Neal wanted it for himself.
Nonetheless, there was something hidden behind Neal's half smile that betrayed an emotion other than happiness, but Peter couldn’t pinpoint that. Peter didn’t always know what was going on in Neal’s head, but he often could see what was happening in his heart…and right now…he wasn’t completely certain.
“Well, whatever you decide, I support.” Peter said, “Even if it’s not working with me everyday.”
Neal shoved his hands in his pockets and kept his eyes on the sculpture.
I'm losing him. Peter thought quickly how to draw Neal back down to earth. Humor.
“But if not, then I fully expect to see Peter Jr. at game night.” Peter threw Neal a lop-sided grin.
“Oh…no…Peter,” Neal spun around and gave him a horrified expression. “No. I mean Peter is a great name and um you’re great and all but…”
Peter chuckled, knowing full well that he was completely joking, but enjoyed that Neal was back peddling a bit. “Well you know Peter means ‘rock’, right? Quite literally a solid name.”
At this point Neal caught onto the banter and chided back, “Neal means passion.” he shrugged. “And that’s superior, in my opinion.”
Peter raised his eyebrows, “It also means cloud. Flighty, transparent. Ever-shifting and changing.”
Neal’s eyes glittered at this. “Even better,” he gave Peter another concerned look, “You looked up what my name means?”
Peter shrugged, “When I was chasing you I looked at you from every angle. You’d be surprised what I know.”
"Like my horoscope?"
Peter laughed as they both relaxed and jovially recalled a car conversation they'd had in the past regarding a three out of ten day for an Aeries.

This is from the fic, Echoes , chapter 3. Warning it’s a self-indulgent fic and part 2 of a 2 part series—it’s not my best but haha I just did it to have fun and process some personal things 😅 however, the first fic in the series, Ghosts, I am a little bit proud of sooo maybe check that out instead 🤣😅
Buddies :D Today I googled what does the name Neal mean...and it said - "Origin :Irish. Meaning: Cloud, passionate; Champion. Sometimes, it's okay to have your head in the clouds—the name Neal is sure to remind baby of this.".....majority of the pages had the same to say...however certain pages also said - "hero", "spirited", "the guy with dark hair" or just "blue"
And these align with Neal Caffrey and his personality perfectly!!!

I just learned the meanings of the names Peter and Neal and I'm not okay
Peter
Tumblr media
Neal
Tumblr media
Their names literally mean rock and cloud are you kidding me?
Neal is literally cappuccinos in the clouds and Peter is his rock??
That's not even starting on "passionate" and "champion" I see you there I just can't that's too much to get into right now
Was this intentional? Did Jeff know? Did he do this on purpose? There's so much symbolism here I don't know how we haven't talked about this before but I'm losing my mind over this.
