New promotional picture for the Spring-focused 7 Seeds stage play.

Some interesting things, there:

-At the bottom, under the title, are multiple photographs of scenery depicting nature at different seasons. 1 in color, representing spring, then 4 in black and white, with the last one being halfway cut. Looks like a hint that the producers might be interested in making more stage plays for other parts of the manga

-The presence of Mozu and Aramaki seems to indicate this stage play might cover content from volume 5-6. Which I hadn't thought about but isn't too surprising a possibility.

-On the other hand, the characters on the left? They very much look like the cleaning robots builders from the big final arc of the story! I'd be very curious to learn what role they'd have to play in this particular play.

Crewel entered the headmaster's office shortly after dropping off the new exchange student and their direbeast at their temporary residence. The sight he was greeted with was not one he was expecting. Professor Trein held quite the serious expression, but that wasn’t strange. No, what was strange, was that the other two in the room had matching looks. Crowley was leaning back in his chair, hat placed  on the table and his fingers raking through his hair as a stress-response. Ashton was in his chair, still, not animated as normal. His arms were crossed as he stared at the paper the new student had written on.

Crewel raised a brow at the unexpected atmosphere and quietly closed the door behind him. “You’re all still here I see. The young pup is safe and sound in their new room, so why are the lot of you looking as if there’s been a murder?” He asked as he approached the desk.

“Divus, I believe you should have a look at this,” Trein grabs the paper, then hands it over to Crewel. 

Crewel's eyes narrow in puzzlement at Mozus, but takes the paper. His eyebrows furrow as he begins to read what was written, then lift when his eyes widen as realization begins to set in. “Is this–?” He eyes lock onto Mozus, then quickly dart over to Dire for confirmation.

Crowley nods. “It’s as you expect. The ancient dead tongue: Terran.”

Divus pinches the bridge of his nose with a sigh and takes a seat in his chair, eyes closed and head leaned back, much like Dire’s was when he first entered. “...I feel things are going to become much more complicated than I was expecting. That reminds me,” he opens his eyes and tilts his head to look at Dire, “When were you going to mention that our new exchange student was actually an alien instead of having to learn that from the source himself? Normally I would write it off as a fool’s delusion, but this situation is certainly not one for them to be joking about such a thing.”

The other two professors seemingly had no idea either, as they too looked to Dire for answers.

“Well, um, now, I suppose?” He answers sheepishly. “The reason we’re being so accommodating for them was because I first expected they were not a being of the mundane, and a young one at that, who had gotten lost on this side. When he first mentioned being an alien to me, I presumed it was them distorting the truth of their heritage without telling an outright lie, but now I believe it is safe to assume he was in fact being truthful about everything. The fact that he’s seemingly fluent in Terran just adds more to this mystery,” he gestures towards the paper still in Divus’ hand. 

“It seems we’ll be having meetings together quite often this year.” Mozus states as he rises from his seat. “Seeing as you are the most well-versed in Terran, Dire, it would be quite helpful if you would provide us with translated copies by our next meeting.” Not waiting for a response, he walks to the door, his cat asleep in his arms.

“Translated copies by… Well, yes, I suppose I the most capable one for the job,” Dire accepts, praising himself a bit.

“Good,” Mozus looks over his shoulder at the three of them when he reaches the door.. “Then, I shall see you all here again, same time tomorrow.” He exits the office, leaving no room for argument

“Same time–wha–but–you can’t possibly–!” Crowley sputters, realizing he must now spend the rest of the day translating.

“Gahaha!” Ashton, having also stood, claps Crowley on the back with a bit too much force. “Don’t worry, Dire! I know that if anyone can do it, it’s you!” He smiles brightly before taking his leave as well.

“I suppose I should get going as well,” Divus stands up, “the humanities aren’t quite my strong suit, you see,” he smirks a little as he turns and starts heading for the door. “I should mention though, per his own request, I took our new student to get the seasonal vaccines, but we’re going to need to find them a trustworthy GP for the non-seasonal ones. Bloodwork is going to have to be done as well, since we’ll need to consider foreign illnesses too. As the headmage of Night Raven College, I’m sure you have plenty of connections to make sure this is all taken care of pristinely for their own protection.” Hand on the doorknob of the already open door, he stops and looks at Dire over his shoulder, “Oh, and just one more thing. I think we’re all going to have a talk about future safety measures against fire.” He smiles a wide, tight-lipped smile with narrowed eyes as he shuts the door, just weak enough to not slam.

Crowley stares at the closed door, mouth slightly agape. He groans and buries his face in his hands. “Why are they always so unfair to me?”

-favorite new heroes character(s): i wanna say glen? hes probably the most fave-fave who was added this year. shout out to characters like yukimura, mozu, hayato, arlen, the solm and elusia guys (and their hound ghbs), and the last batch of fe6 guys for becoming playable, theyre cool. and shout out to fallen ursula for making my memes canon. you go girl, also you deserve better.

-favorite special heroes character(s): ponytail alear is really cute, and both of the twin stewards' seasonals were neat too (even tho i prefer their base forms). the summer hrid is real, which is great. tho thats kinda the extent i feel super strongly towards positively lol.

-favorite legendary/etc character(s): hraes and nid babeyyyyyy!!! tbh the only ones i liked this year and they ate all my orbs RIP. but that said i did also get m shez for no orbs so he gets a shout out.

-favorite resplendent of the year: ofc my favorite character wise is laegy? but i dont like her resplendant art or theme (which is weird bc the voice lines were good). i like the art for cat, brave miccy, and bk i guess.

canon plot

-you have to say one thing nice abt this year's book (whether characters, plot, music, etc?): its nice that hraes and nid are two cool characters in the book, and as far as main villains go, laerdhar is meh but not as just. despiseable as someone like frej ya or eit ri.

-you have to say something nice abt tempest trial too: pyazi is cute and cool and im glad we have one jotun who is tolerable (her art is weird that she looks much happier than her voice lines? but idk i think it kind of works). it also didnt seem like tooooo much of a retcon and like book 3, only enforced the negative traits of the main characters rather than retconned their personalities (like b2's)

-things you didn't like/criticisms: the music for b8 i find kinda forgettable compared to bangers like 7, 6 (elms theme specifically), and 4 and insulting bastardizations making fun of a musical genre like 3 and 5. speaking of insulting the april fools was not so good but then again the only ones ive liked were the 8bit parody (which was ok i guess) and the legendary f eh one. i feel similarly to b2's tt for b5. like really, of all the interesting angles you have to just introduce a new concept out of nowhere and do nothing for pre existing characters???? it was disappointing but not surprising tho imo.

-if you had to choose a favorite character in the main plot/tempest trial (theres gotta be at least one): hraes, nid, and pjazi. i like them all. literally all the rest of the characters, hard pass.

-favorite fb/tempest trial story(stories? if were lucky): bors and lut at the end just pulling out all the stops. easily the best interaction ive seen in a while. the ogier one was nice too. honestly i think a lot of fb were fine, the bad ones just leave a bad taste in my mouth. nothing really stands out to me tt wise tho lol. ig the chrom and luci one was wholesome tho.

-if you had to describe the theme/vibe of the book (fic) in 1-2 words? self-improvement, next step?

-what oc do you feel like encapsulates the message of the book fic the best? like idk. em for book 6: imean theres two, eostra and eadgyth. i guess with the theme of self-improvement, then eostra. it doesnt really count but i think elanor also fits both themes tho shes in the side story lol. im also just realizing everyone has an "e" name. rush e was the friends we made along the way.

-what is your favorite character interaction of the book? i love every bit of the plumisurla dynamic. evil ladies snarking at each other. they got mad disney villain energy, but like. if two slay queen disney villains also were fond (in a wholesome way) of a two braincells princess/protagonist and became part of the squad (not in a bad way, in a fun and neat way, not in a stupid way like in actual movies). i feel like kaze got some good scenes, being the glue that keeps everyone from tearing each others throats lol.

-what is your favorite character development of the book? delthea being the main character of the nidavelir theme. also i havent written yet but herrinthr and otr standing up to eitri bc she was mean to sola.

-whats one criticism/change/something youd do differently if canon was different: i feel like 7 and 8 both dont have as grounded plots, partly bc theres so many damn characters. i think 8 is a bit better, with eostra and eadgyth acting as surrogate main characters kind of. more development/screentime from "spy" to get us more invested in his fate, and more development/screentime just adventuring abt yggdrasil with eostra and eadgyth. tho i feel like the latter could easily be a spinoff material for like a "five minute disney story" but heroesverse.

-if you could change one thing in canon to fit the fic better, what would it be and why/how? angsty otr + fafnir reunion scene (hey it could still happen) to introduce spack, more jeritza screentime and a happy end if he was added in the 16 banner (in canon he will get an unfortunately sad end)

Ok, Joy, so I was thinking about this a lot last night, and had originally thought that they would have 3 biological kids, Mai and Ty Lee get different sperm donors. Mai would get pregnant first and have a girl, and then Ty Lee would have twin boys. They would also foster orphans and teach them etiquette and how to defend themselves (but I'm not going to include them since they're only there until they age out of the system with some dope skills, or are adopted)

BUT THEN!!!

I thought.... Ty Lee is 1 or 7 identical sisters WHAT IF instead of having twin boys, she had like quintuplet (5) boys!!! But she gave them all very different names and made them do very different activities so they were their own people, unlike how she felt with her sisters. Of course the five of them would end up forming some sort of group gymnastics team or something so they could spend more time together.

Yaisha (F) Firebender, 29: Yaisha is Mai's biological child, yet very much has personality close to her Titi (Ty Lee). She isn't a very skilled firebender when she starts, but cousin Ichika (Azula's daughter), trains her to become a pretty an average bender before heading off to the Royal Fire Academy for Girls. She latches onto Kya (steambaby) who is 3 years older than her and they become close like sisters. Seeing that Yaisha isn't the strongest bender, she is also taught dagger throwing, which she excels at like Mama. Although her firebending skills are quite avaerage, she uses them masterfully in the kitchen, specifically as a baker. She ends up marrying an earthbender at some point in the future (I have no other info on this dude yet, sorry lmao) and they settle down in Ba Sing Se and open a pastry shop next to the Jasmine Dragon.

Yaisha is there in both iterations of my idea. The rest of these OCs will be split between Ty Lee having twin earthbending boys (bc her sperm donor was an earthbender) or two firebenders, an earthbender, and two non-bender quintuplets.

Twins:

Siju and Dizai (M) Earthbenders, 27: Siju and Dizai are pretty skilled earthbenders for people who live in the Fire Nation without any proper training. While Yaisha trains at the Royal Fire Academy for Girls, the twins are shipped off to train with Toph. The twins get super close with Suyin they become a trio until Su gets sent to Gao Ling to live with her grandparents. Siju is quite a skilled metalbender, but Dizai turns out to be a lavabender. Once they hone their skills, both of them come home to show Mama and Titi their skills. Everyone is very impressed.

Siju stays home and meets a midranking officer in the Fire Navy and they fall in love.

Dizai travels around the world and meets Sokka and Suki's daughter, Alayi. Even though Dizai is 6 years younger than Alayi, the two fall in love and settle in the SWT where Alayi wants to teach the new waterbenders how to master their element. Together, they have two children, an earthbender and a firebender.

Quintuplets:

Jaree (M) Non-Bender, 20: Jaree is a skilled chi blocker like Titi, but is also interested in welding. He becomes the youngest and best-known welder in the world but the age of 15. People come from all over the world to get beautifully designed weapons made by the boy. Jaree makes customized weapons for his Mama and Zaija on a regular basis as 'practice'. When he turns 18, he only does commissions because he enjoyed spending his time with his brothers dancing and messing around.

Zaija (M) Non-Bender, 20: Zaija on the other hand, takes after his Mama and is a skilled thrower. Jaree makes customized throwing stars, daggers, knives, etc for him. They are perfectly balanced and ensures that he never misses his target. when he's not small weapons and going on top secret missions for Shushu Zuko, he writes under the name Wang Fire (courtesy of Sokka). Wang Fire is the best-selling author for teen dramas. Only Sokka knows his secret.

Mozu (M) Firebender, 20: Mozu is an awful combat firebender, but he's very skilled in firebending as a healing art. He studies under the Bhanti sages to learn how to energy read with firebending. From there he learns the power of Reiki and massage therapy to heal people. Mozu and Shain start a healing business together, as Shain is a skilled acupuncturist and acupressurist. In his small amount of free time, he likes to study teas. Eventually, after the quintuplets stop competing, Mozu goes to help Iroh in Ba Sing Se at the tea shop.

Yaro (M) Firebender, 20: Where Mozu could barely fight, Yaro excels. Yaro is sent to the Sun Warriors to learn firebending from Ran and Shaw. After returning, he makes it his life mission to learn how to control the colors of his fire. By 17, he is able to create any color flame he wants. He explores how different things react based on the different temperatures and colors the flames are. Yaro becomes a potter, creating unique bowls, plates, etc for the nobles. He and Jaree open a gallery together to sell their masterpieces.

Shain (M) Earthbender, 20: Shain is the odd man out, being the only earthbender in the family. He is sent to train with Ayi Toph and discovers he's a very skilled metalbender. Between his metalbending abilities and knowledge of muscles and pressure points, Shain creates a better way of doing acupuncture than the experts have done for the past 300 years. Shain spends one season each year in Zaofu with Suyin and Bataar to better his metalbending and teach other metalbenders his acupuncture technique.

The five of them are all super flexible and able to get some height when jumping. They form a gymnastics and dance troupe of the five of them. They compete in the group version of bending dance competitions that Tiao Wu does. He's a big fan of them and is always siked when they let him dance with them.

There's gonna be a one-short story were Twisted Wonderland meets Obey me!

Here's the concept of it...

If you know Diabolik lovers season 2 (More blood) Episode 1, that one scene were the car nearly killed the Sakamaki brothers and Yui. Well here's what happen.

Anthy has been acting strange or more specifically being spacing out /daydream recently, Yuu and Grim are worried even the fairies in the garden too.

Mozus Trein took her to the infirmary when she nearly hurt herself in the potion room and Divus Crewel had to report this to him, this made the whole college began talking even Sam had to check his girl (yes the two are in a fluffy relationship).

Dire Crowley had to call Anthy mom, Mia and found out this. She also find it strange too but Anthy had to shrugged it off...that's when the magic mirror look into Anthy aura and said there's something pulling her.

This made the NRC gang worried as Malleus check her vision, their he saw 7 figure sitting in the throne and felt an immense aura in them, powerful and sinister.

As soon Malleus told this, Crowley knew who is he talking about and told them to keep Anthy safe knowing the eldest son will take her.

This put everyone on edge and decided to take her back to the human world by bus that they recently got and built thanks to Epel and Asthon Vargas.

That's when shit hit the fan, as night fell. Anthy began to feel as if bad things is gonna happen and boy is she right when the bus began to loose control and flip causing each dorm heads and the rest startle.

Anthy was the first to scream, but luckily when the bus is exploded. They manage to get out with the help of Malleus and Lilia. Leona sniff the scent of devil and saw them on top of the cliffs looking below to them.

But all their eyes were on Anthy...Malleus and Leona protect her as they have to head back.

And thus, the hunt begins.

Ikue Mori is a vital figure on the 'Downtown New York Scene' and the international avant-garde community. 

She is a pioneer of the use of electronics in music. Mori's career began as the drummer for DNA, one of the leading groups of New York's "No Wave" movement. Following her time with DNA, she began performing as part of the New York experimental community with notable figures such as John Zorn, Zeena Parkins, and Jim Staley. In the mid80's, she transitioned her primary instrument to the drum machine and immediately developed a highly distinctive sound and style, culminating in her first solo recordings in the mid90s. In 2000, Mori made the switch to laptop which opened a virtuosic depth and range to her electronics. Key groups at this juncture include Mephista and Phantom Orchard. She continues to release solo albums as well as perform and record with the top musicians and composers of the experimental community, constantly breaking ground at the forefront of the sonic arts.

I’m gonna dig for some, but a couple stood out immediately to me! Some of ‘em are..................extremely NSFW, but in the cases I’m thinking of, it’s done such sweet justice to the pair that it’s made it hard for me to consider these characters with anyone else. I’ll mark the NSFW ones.

1. Krem x Merrill, from Dragon Age (Inquisition and 2, respectively). One of those pairings that didn’t occur to me until I saw a fic, and now it’s the only one I can ever think of ever. I...I can’t even put into words why it fits so well, so I’ll link the NSFW fic that convinced me when I didn’t even know I needed convincing: Loose Skirts by WrenAndPoppy. Pls read it. So in-character with so many different characters that it feels like canon. It should be. It probably is.

2. Craig Cahn x Robert Small from Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Sim. I think I was looking for fluffy Craig/MC fic when I found this instead (I couldn’t find much of what I was originally looking for, anyway) and now it’s the only pairing I actually think about for the non-MC guys. Craig needs to chill out. Robert chills too much in some ways and way not enough in others. I think their ways of emotional processing are...kind of similar. The overextending until collapse. The need to block out all else and not think too deeply about the real problems. Anyway if you want very very very NSFW seriously look around you first, then read the Bros Helping Bros series by Tenebrosa

Oh hey did anyone wanna hear about my many favorite Naruto rarepairs? No? Here’s three!

3.  Hidan & Temari (in friendship, but it’s going here anyway). Right? RIGHT???? Who the HECK would think? Not me, that’s for dang sure. I still don’t. The only way it works is in a contemporary AU centered on soldiers and the people back home that has nothing to do with ninjas at all but somehow still keeps the most important elements of Naruto. Somehow. But they play off each other so well! Temari’s no-nonsense, tenacious outlook and her fierce love for her family is such a good, idk, balance to Hidan’s impulsiveness and brashness and self-centered attitude that’s not based so much on pain or trauma or whatever as much as it is the fact that he really does just....think only of himself. I’m not selling this well. I’ve said so before, but A Remedy for Lassitude by firefly is the fic that has positively moved me more than any other.

4. Hidan x Hinata okay this is only going here AGAIN because of One Fic, and yes, it’s another contemporary AU (this one about working in journalism?????). But this is more plausible, right? Foul-mouthed Hidan and sweet but strong Hinata? Read Bluescast by stones if this intrigues you. That fic still makes me laugh out loud at parts.

5. Kimimaro x Sakura. I do wish there was more of this!!!! I’d write it myself, except I don’t want to dive down the Naruto-lore rabbit hole to get everything ninja-y right. Everyone ships Sakura with literally everyone, but this is one Bad Guy example I get behind and can see it being at least reasonably not terrible! (I know I wrote a 40k word SasoSaku fanfic but the whole point of that was how unhealthy it was, leave me alone) “Only Sakura could heal Kimimaro’s physical condition” aside, Sakura knows a lot about brainwashing (especially where ol’ Orochimaru is concerned) and there were other reasons why Kimimaro is good for her that I forget. It’s been a long time since I’ve read Canon-ish Naruto Fics, for a GOOD REASON, because once I start, I p much never stop. Here’s Marrow by DeGlace--the author rewrote it completely from when I first read it in 2006, and it’s now rated M when I remember it being T, so...maybe it’s NSFW now? I don’t think it had been finished when I was following along 12 years ago...Well, read it and tell me about it.

6. Wayne x Siluka from Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns. LEAVE ME ALONE, I’M THE ONLY ONE WHO WROTE IT BUT YOU GOTTA TRUST ME ON ITS PERFECTION. Here’s my super frickin’ fluffy fic on it, Sunshower, but you can start with the Siluka-less one-shot for some quick background before beginning called Stars In Her Eyes. The series is called Farmer’s Almanac because maybe one day I’ll finish part 3.

7. Saizou x Mozu from Fire Emblem: Fates. When I was playing Birthright, I had Saizou protecting little villager Mozu like, all the fricking time, because villager class is best class but it takes a LONG time to get there, and Saizou Ninja is strong af. Naturally, they started getting support convos, and....oh, god. They’re sweet. They bond over being from small villages, eating stew, missing their hometowns....it’s so domestic and it kills me. For whatever ungodly reason (probably because I knew I’d never get someone else writing anything for them), I wrote a softly smutty fic for them. It’s pretty lame in feeling plot-y at all because I hadn’t (and still haven’t) finished the game or gotten close, but who cares when it comes to sweet n sexy love? It’s called Borrowed Moments I guess oh and also it’s NSFW obviously.

Pizza Headcanons for Fate Characters

All Path

Corrin: Corrin (both male and female) Like any kind of pizza really. They mainly go with either plain cheese or pepperoni, but they don’t mind any other topping really

Azura: Despite other peoples distaste for it, Azura actually really likes anchovy pizza.

Felicia: Veggie Pizza. She may not be a vegetarian but there’s something about veggie pizza that she just loves

Jakob: Honestly can’t stand pizza tbh. He’d rather eat horse dung before he even considers eating 1/10 of a slice

Silas: Is  simple man with simple taste, he’s a pepperoni pizza kind of man and can eat it all day if you let him.

Kaze: He likes hot sauce on his pizza. The hotter the better, you would assume it to be his brother, but no, Kaze is the one who likes spicy pizza

Mozu: People usually assume she is eating pepperoni pizza, but she isn’t. She has carrot slices on it, and it just looks like pepperoni.

Hoshido:

Ryoma: He’s a sucker for seafood on his pizza. Crab meat, lobster meat, shrimp, anything goes except anchovies. He finds them too salty

Takumi: He’s not a huge fan of pizza but he does enjoy it when he’s in the mood and he’ll eat it. Just don’t give him pineapple pizza, tbh, any pineapple does/doesn’t belong on pizza war you see he probably started because he said it doesn’t belong on it

Hinoka: She likes fruit on her pizza. People find it weird when they see her with bananas or apple slices on it, but she loves it. 

Sakura: Only pizza Sakura will have is bacon pizza and if its the maple kind of bacon. other than that she doesn’t really eat it that often

Saizo: He likes olive pizza. Everyone finds it weird that he starts from the crust first though, but Saizo just like to get that out of the way first.

Kagero: Extra cheese pizza is her style, the more cheese the better.

Azama: He’s a weird one. he likes pizza, without cheese. Like he would literally pick off the cheese and eat it like that. He doesn’t even have a reason, he just does it.

Setsuna: She likes chicken pizza. If there is none, she’ll settle for what ever is there but she really just want chicken pizza

Hinata: Is a total pizza fanatic and will eat any kind, and especially loves pineapple pizza. He is also a source of pineapple pizza discourse if Takumi isn’t the cause (tbh, they are always fighting each other over what topping to get)

Oboro: She’s a sausage kind of pizza lover. Mainly because is was something her parents like to put on top of it, so it brings her back to the memories she has of them

Hana: Anything that isn’t meat pizza. She’ll usually eat what ever pizza Sakura leaves since she knows she only really likes the maple bacon one, but if it was a meat kind, she won’t go near it

Subaki: To keep his perfect figure he tries to avoid eating pizza, but Hana has spotted him eating a few slices late at night when no one is around, though she could never tell what the topping is, she knows he likes it more than he lets on

Hayato: He thinks pizza is bland. like he’ll eat it if he has to but he’d rather have something else. He feels its too childish to like pizza anyways.

Kaden: Okay so funny story. Kaden use to love pizza but ever since the time he got sauce and cheese on his fur, that changed. It got caught and he had to cut some of his beautiful fur off and because of that, he vowed to stay away from it to keep his fur nice and clean

Orochi: She likes mushroom pizza. she especially loves when the mushroom has been seasoned before being put on the pizza. She doesn’t know how she got into it though since she use to hate mushrooms

Rinkah: Hates pizza just as much as Jakob. Don’t give it to her, she will yell at you.

Xander: He doesn’t eat pizza that often but is a fan of it, and does enjoy a slice from time to time. His favorite has to be a BBQ chicken pizza but he would eat any kind no problem.

Camilla: Meat, meat, and more meat. She’s a total meat pizza lover. Bacon, Chicken, Beef, Sausage, you name it she will have it on hers. Hell, maybe all in one pie if you’d let her.

Leo: He likes pizza dipped in ranch. Its funny, he use to eat it with tomato chunks until Odin got him into Ranch pizza. The two could be seen shareing a whole pie of ranch pizza together

Elise: The only pizza she is having is dessert pizza. She once had someone make a cookie sheed that she covered in chocolate sauce and sprinkled candy on top, then cut it as if it was a pizza. She doesn’t really like regular pizza (mainly because she’s allergic to the sauce)

Lazlow: He will eat any kind of pizza but his fav has to be a ham pizza with extra cheese. He says he gets it from his parents since his father liked ham pizza and his mom liked extra cheese

Peri: She likes all pizza and even learned how to make it herself. It comes out great and no one knows how. It always taste better when she makes it. She said its a secret in the sauce, which leaves some people on edge on to ask what the secret is but they’d rather not ask spoiler alert, its not blood

Selena: She will never admit it but she loves pizza. She acts like she hates it, even going as far as to slap it out the hand of anyone who offers, but Laslow and Odin have both seen her go on shopping sprees where she has stopped by a local pizza shop to get a pepperoni and olive pizza. Maybe that’s why she doesn’t let anyone know because she thinks they’ll think she is weird for liking pepperoni and olive pizza

Beruka: She eats pizza, but the stone face she usually haves leaves people to wonder if she actually likes it, or if she hates it. Some argue she wouldn’t eat it if she didn’t like it. Other say as an assassin, you’ll do anything to survive even eat something you don’t like. No one knows for sure and have never been able to confirm otherwise

Odin: Ranch Pizza. he would drown his in ranch sauce, even getting Leo into it. Laslow usually has to have him tone it down because, if you let him, he would pour a whole bottole of ranch on one pizza slice and still eat it.

Niles: He calls Odin and Leo weird for liking ranch pizza but he is one to talk. he would take his pizza and dip it into more marinara sauce. Niles would get regular pizza, any topping and just dip it in more sauce. He leaves the crust though, he doesn’t like crust.

Effie: Another meat pizza lover, like Camilla. She would, and has, put every kind of meat she could find in camp and put it into one pizza. No one could really stomach it except her and Camilla who happily enjoy it.

Arthur: As much as he likes pizza, he can’t bring himself to eat it. its either too hot that it burns his tongue or completely frozen that its hard to bite. even if its a good kind, a near by bird finds its way to use his slice as target practice

Nyx: While she doesn’t hate pizza, she wouldn’t eat it. Unless its the only thing left and she has no other option to eat, she just wont eat pizza and no one really knows why.

Charlotte: She puts on a great act in front of men when they get pizza together and would happily eat it no problem. But in reality, she can’t stand the stuff. Its slimy, its gross, who eats this? Ugh, she just cant understand how anyone would like this stuff, but if a guy got her a slice, she would happily eat it just to make him happy.

Benny: There are rumors of Benny putting rocks on his pizza slices and eating it like its nothing. He’s just that intimidating that he would eat a rock just to survive. Some one said they could have sworn they saw it themselves. In reality, he is just eating a sausage pizza. It’s his guilty pleasure tbh

Keaton: Keaton won’t eat pizza but loves the crust, especially if its been in the fridge for a while. You could see him taking the pizza crust Niles has thrown out and taking it for himself. He says its because he is lactose intolerant and can’t have cheese, so people wondered why not just get it without cheese and he just says he doesn’t like the sauce.

10 Representative Jdramas of the 2010s (so far)

This post is inspired by, or rather, is a reply to this excellent question posted by an anon to @jdramaconfessions. I meant to reblog the post with a reply but then this post got MASSIVE so I decided to just make a new one.

Of course, the best answer to that question of what are the representative dramas of this current decade can only be written in about 2025, when there is enough time to look back and take stock of what dramas actually stood the test of time. As it is, there are still 3.5 years left to the decade – and if 2013 and 2016 was any indication, one fairly good year could give us a couple of hits. That being said, I’m going to try.

I think the best place to start, when trying to curate a list of representative dramas is first to ask – how exactly does one define representative and what are these dramas supposed to be representative of?

The word ‘representative’ is tricky to me because it implies something different than ‘favourite’. When asked for a list of ‘favourite’ dramas, it’s definitely personal, and there’s no need to try to choose something objectively. But the word ‘representative’ implies that there has to be some sense of objectivity to one’s choice, even though I agree with the admin of jdramaconfessions that at the end of the day, personal preference still comes into play.

I define representative in three ways.

Firstly, by memorability. We are still living this decade out, so it’s hard to say which dramas will stand the test of time in the next decade or so. Still, I’m sure that there are a number of dramas from the early 2010s that cling on to our minds and are still referred to often.

Secondly, by popularity. I don’t mean to say that every popular show that has come out in the past decade is automatically memorable or representative drama. In fact, quite the contrary. Every season will inevitably have its own popular drama. But there are a number of dramas that have exploded in popularity and I feel that it is then valid to give them a spot on the list. After all, to an extent, popularity indicates a show’s ability to resonate with a wide audience. I will also try to choose dramas that are popular both domestically and internationally. Making popularity a criteria is also why I sadly exclude excellent dramas like the Oguri-led BORDER and gothic drama Karamazov no Kyodai – both were insanely memorable and unique to me, but perhaps not commercially popular enough to make them ‘representative’.

Thirdly, by innovation. This is also a way to address the question of ‘What exactly are these choices supposed to be representative of’? Jdrama is a big umbrella of many sub-genres. A representative drama of one sub-genre (say romance) may not always be representative of the entire group. Though to be sure, there are times when they overlap. So what I mean by ‘innovation’ is any given drama’s ability to give fresh life to their genres, and bring something new to the table. It’s a drama’s ability to be either be excellent within the constraints of its genre, or conversely, its ability to push the boundaries of the genre.

With that being said, I’ve got chosen a couple of dramas I think fit the bill – In no particular order after the cut!

1)     Hanzawa Naoki

I’m putting this one first because @midnightrain910 brought it up. Yes. Personally I didn’t think Hanzawa Naoki was THAT great, but boy was it adored by repressed salarymen all over Japan. I literally had 2 of my (Japanese) managers come up to me to ask me if I’d watched it – on separate occasions! I mean shame on any 2013 Japan enthusiast who didn’t know the “bai-gaeshi” catchphrase. It also cemented Masato Sakai’s reputation as a credible and commercially viable actor.

2)     JIN 2

I thought JIN 2 was inferior to the first season, but I included it anyway because I wanted to somehow squeeze JIN into this list. JIN is the historical, time-travel, medical drama OF DREAMS. It was so well-acted and so unexpectedly good. Just last year my Turkish colleague was raving about it to me. In that sense, I think it is an internationally accessible jidaigeki with a lot of heart.

3)     Strawberry Night

Ok so, if you were to compare Strawberry Night with the MANY other Japanese crime/detective dramas, you wouldn’t find it definitive or groundbreaking. But still, it was GOOD. Sure I may be biased, but look, it lasted 2 SPs, 1 full season and 1 movie. If that’s not a testament of its popularity I don’t know what is. It managed to weave a bit of romance into it too. Also I think this is the series that threw Nishijima Hidetoshi into the limelight. He’s been around for ages, but I don’t think he had done anything since Asunaro Hakusho that was really popular until Strawberry Night. 

4)     Juhan Shuttai!

Juhan Shuttai! never set out to be critically acclaimed or sold itself like it was a precious gem filled with top actors. Nah, it set out to be a feel-good show but boy was it that and MORE. It just goes to show that great characterisation and a solid plot will bring a show far. That’s not to say that the actors weren’t good. A few of them were excellent, some of them were serviceable. I just wanted to point out that unlike some shows (cough Triangle, cough Rich Man Poor Woman, cough MOZU), they didn’t overpromise and underdeliver. Also, oftentimes well-written dramas happen to be so serious. I would really love to see more in the vein of Juhan Shuttai! (And Legal High, if I might add).

5)     Quartet (2017) - Not to be confused with the other jdrama of the same name

Putting this in despite not having watched it because all the reviewers that I trust to give an honest opinion found that it lived up to its hype. THANK GOOD HEAVENS. After giving the couple of examples above of how a good cast doth not a good drama make, I’m glad that Quartet can now live on as the drama which BROUGHT IT. Also I wasn’t about to make this list without Mitsushima Hikari (If Quartet hadn’t made it I would have put in Woman). She’s one of most excellent actresses to have surfaced this decade. It’s so odd because I remember her from Folder5 days – and who would’ve known she’d be here today.

6)     Marks no Yama

To me this must have been the drama that put WOWOW on the map. It was that drama that made everyone sit up and realise that WOWOW wasn’t just a second-rate channel airing foreign shows. It had a good strategy going – a very strong understanding of its niche, and the willingness to ignore popular models and idols and go for gritty, well-written fare instead. Because I’m ultimately quite a frivolous drama fan, I must have to say most of WOWOW posters (and shows) don’t really attract me, but the couple that I have watched have wow-ed me (pardon the pun).

7)     Itazura na Kiss ~ Love in Tokyo

Ok it was a toss up between Good Morning Call and this one, neither of which I watched by the way. Well I did attempt one episode of GMC but I just….couldn’t. The truth is, now that I teach Japanese high-schoolers, it’s very hard for me to watch dramas with them in it. Though in a sense I’ve outgrown the genre, it’s more of a ‘this hits too close to home’ thing. That being said, high school dramas are a staple of drama world and it’d be weird not to include at least one. So I just went with which one I heard about the most.

Admittedly, the early to mid 2000s were a heyday for high school dramas to me. I’m hard-pressed to find a Stand Up! or Nobuta wo Produce among the current lot of dramas. They just don’t make them like they did anymore. That’s not to say it has been bad. I thoroughly enjoyed Narimiya Hiroki and Niigaki Risa trying their darndest to act like teens in Yankee Kun to Megane Chan. I was impressed that Piece managed to build itself into a dark mystery cum social commentary despite having pretty weak actors. I heard Sprout was cute. THAT SAID, none of them could be considered representative in my book.

As such, Itazura na Kiss stands out for being one rare remake that actually became as popular as its predecessor – and which was one teen drama to capture the hearts of international tumblrites.

8)     Saikou no Rikon

Not only was this the show that introduced me to the genius that is Ono Machiko, it was the drama that turned the romance drama genre on its head. Its dialogue was witty, it was unapologetically real. And I think it made more writers sit up and realise that it’s the 2010s and they should really be challenging romcom stereotypes, not mindlessly rehashing them again and again.

9)     We Got Married as a Job

@repinipi brought this up and yes, HOLY SMOKES this was THE romcom of 2016. It took Japan by storm. Till now theme song Koi is still on the top 10 of karaoke charts. My kids went wild when we teachers danced it at grad party. People still talk about the drama and Hoshino Gen is capitalising on it. Solidly written, it managed to be realistic, though the circumstances were obviously way to fictional to happen in real life. In 2020, I think this drama will still be looked upon fondly.

10) HiGH & LOW

I thought about this. I thought about this long and hard because, should H&L even be considered on the same plane as other dramas? At its core, it’s more of a promotional vehicle. But it just threw the delinquent/gang genre and shook it up into it’s own visually brilliant spectacle. It will probably never find its place among mainstream audiences in Japan. But it has grown its own dedicated fan base. If anything I’d compare it to Tokusatsu and Takarazuka fandoms. They are niche, but there are there, they are proud, and they are ready to throw some bills. LDH took J&A’s ambition and promotional ideas, then stepped it up a couple of notches. If anything, the business savvy of this company puts the entire series on this list. 

Final Thoughts

I am just one person who simply hasn’t had much time to watch as much jdrama as I’d like. So its inevitable that I would have missed some out. Also, to make the arbitrary number of 10, I was unable to put some other picks on (trust me I would put either SPEC, Yae no Sakura, or Sanada Maru in in a heartbeat). Well, it wouldn’t be representative if too many made the list eh? Lastly, please remember, objective as I try to be, feel free to agree or disagree. Let me know your picks! :)
