(sub)Genres: Disaster
We were ignorant, and we were ignorant of the fact that we were ignorant! This was ignorance squared, and it often led to disaster.

What are your four favorite film genres(Plus favorites of those genres)
I'll go first
Sci Fi-I am NOT a scientifically minded person but I love Science Fiction .For me Sci fi is a genre of posibilities,it asks"What if" and examines humanitys place in the vast cosmos .It can be pondurus and existential...But also can be fun cause robots ,spaceships and aliens are neat
Favorite:Metropolis
Western-Once one of the most popular genres ,now heavilly misunderstood .It might seem weird that this is one of my faves.....But it is my fave genre for examining good and evil, doing both straight good vs evil stories or deconstructing the very idea/examaining the line of hero and villain
Favorite:The Good The Bad and the Ugly
Fantasy -Fantasy is so versitile ,ranging from our world but theres a little magic to far off lands where the dragons fly and the giants roam .It is sort of a sister genre to Sci Fi,also being about possibilities but more wonderous, with set pieces either whimsical or dangerous and if done well awe inspiring
Favorite The Neverending Story
Horror-If Sci Fi asks What If,horror asks "Wouldnt it be fucked up if-".Horror is a genre of emotion, exploring fear, with that fear ranging from the fears of reality to the impossible .I tend to lean to ghosts2,demons,and other beasties as well as atmosphere over slashers
Favorite:Frankenstein

Does anyone have a name for the whole genre of weird vaguely supernatural usually tech related action thrillers from the late 2000s/early 2010s that they don't really make anymore, like The Adjustment Bureau, Stealth, Deja Vu, Eagle Eye and In Time

New Movie Genre Idea
THIS IS SATIRE, DO NOT TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY
Okay so, hear me out. A high school love drama, but in the format of a nature documentary. Imagine it, it would be like this kid flirting with people and figuring out themselves and how to navigate life and difficulties, but David Attenborough is narrating it the entire time. It would be so funny to watch, and it would make no sense whatsoever.
"Here we can see a young adolescent male human named Jake going to attempt to court a young female his own age named Adeline. He had been trying for a long time, but other males had beaten him to it. But little did he know, that this female was what's called "lesbian" and was going to tell the world today. His courting would be unsuccessful, and he would have to find a different female to court."
Of course this is satire, do not take any of what I'm suggesting seriously. Calling people males and females is creepy and dehumanizing and should not be done unless in a medical standpoint by professionals.

Apparently people think that if a movie is funny it's a comedy and I am now extremely annoyed. A comedy needs to be intentionally written as such or it's not a comedy. Or am I wrong? Tumblr seems intelligent enough to set this right for me.
#Someone said that the 2005 Pride and Prejudice movie was a rom-com cause the scenes with Mr.Collins are funny#its been making me angry all day#comedy#movies#pride and prejudice 2005#movie genres

Not to derail this, but in a broader sense, there seem to be more and more people who are interested in certain aesthetics, but disinterested in their origins.
I know it’s not a new thing. Plenty of fashion trends are based off of pop-culture ideas of older eras instead of actual older styles.
But this whole kind of thing kind of blows my mind. Like, what do you mean you like this aesthetic but you don’t want to bother learning about the trends that it consist of.
Music genres, story genres, fashion trends, architecture, interior design. These all make up all of your favorite aesthetics!
I think some people just don’t care, and that’s fine. But I also think some people just don’t realize it’s an option. They don’t realize these things were real trends with real history beyond whatever media they learn about it from. And the real history is fascinating and worth learning about!
These aesthetics and trends and styles have names! And they’re not just “whatever you associate it with”-core
its fascinating how very very surface level 1920s-ish jazz age inspired aesthetics are very popular (see: hazbin hotel and electroswing and the endless wave of bowtie pinstripe character designs from the 2010s) but the vast vast majority of people who are into that seem fundamentally disinterested in actually engaging with actual jazz age art and culture because that would require engaging with black art

animation being treated like a genre instead of a medium is something that actually makes me go insane. beauty and the beast is a romance. the emperor's new groove is a buddy comedy. big hero 6 is a superhero movie. moana is an adventure film. the lion king is a drama. treasure planet is sci-fi. if i was talking to someone who hadn't seen these movies before, and they weren't specifically interested in animation as a medium, then i wouldn't necessarily assume they'd enjoy all of these. and that's just disney movies! try telling an anime fan that fruits basket and fullmetal alchemist are the same genre and see how they react!
#i swear next time someone recommends a movie to me i'm just gonna be like 'sorry i'm not into the live action genre' 🙄#star.txt#animation#disney

Proposed new genre of movie: November movies.
November movies are movies tonally well-suited to the transitional period between Halloween and Christmas. As far as kid-friendly iterations go, they aren't really Christmas movies, but they have some of the aesthetics (childhood nostalgia, light fantasy, etc.) that we often associate with Christmas media, and though falling short of being actual horror, and either lacking or having reduced aesthetics that we normally associate with Halloween (monsters and ghosts and such), they are often (but not always) darker or more sinister than standard family media.
On the adult side, this would be a good place for feel-good movies that are sometimes classified as Christmas, but have little to do with Christmas.
Examples of November movies:
The Wizard of Oz.
Mary Poppins.
The Man Who Came to Dinner.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
The Shop Around the Corner.
It Happened One Night.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
