This does tell us that Megatron here is likely a viviparous species, which typically with sharks I think the larger ones are indeed typically are livebearing? If I can recall, only a few species of shark have the intrauterine cannibalism, as it's uncommon enough to be a "uwu! Look how neat this is!" Thing in documentaries.

I don't think eels can purr but some fish can and that gives me enough of an excuse to say that the twins do too lol

I like to think that they're a lot more expressive in their merforms than in their human forms since there's a lot of body language stuff that they don't always realize. I think the stripes and speckles on their bodies glow not only in response to being underwater and needing to see, but also to their emotions.

Surprisingly, Floyd is a lot better at hiding his body language than Jade, mostly because he is already outspoken and doesn't hide most of his emotions (most...not all of them). Jade on the other hand, it's like his body knows he's trying to be secretive and mysterious. The reality is that he doesn't like to be vulnerable with others, and part of that is being honest with his emotions. So his merform compensates all that repressed emotions by making him a motherfucking glow stick.

It's great though when cuddling with one of them! You have to go into a shallow pool of water if on the beach or go to the side of the pool that lets you sit. But you can tell he's content when his tail sways back and forth and there's a little rumbling coming from his chest. It sounds a mix of growling and purring, and vibrates your chest as he holds onto you.

He's especially fond of the way you run your fingers along his fins and spines. You know as a kid when your mom would gently scratch your back or arm to help you fall asleep? It feels like that, very pleasant and almost tingly. It's also just nice to be with the person you love and have them shower you with such soft and sweet affections, so he can't really help the way he reacts. If it happens to be dark, you might even see him dully glow in response, getting brighter every time you scratch a particularly good spot! Even his ear fins will react, drooping down when pleased, it's awfully cute.

It's nice to be soft and sweet, everyone else is so scared of him and worried about pushing the wrong buttons that they forget he's just a dude! He's just a guy who loves his partner and their sweet way of loving him! But maybe that's intentional, maybe only you are allowed to see this side of him. A privilege, truly.

Yes yes! The first information we receive about Azul being stronger than he looks is from Floyd during Beanfest, who explains,

"Who said anything about Azul bein' weak without his magic? He's real strong. He's slow on land and in water, and he's got lousy athletic reflexes, but that doesn't mean he's weak."

"Azul's bigger than me in the water, and he's got eight huge, heavy limbs. His submission holds are bad news, and he's got crazy grip strength. If he so much as snags you, he can snare you with your arms pinned.

Octopi are, like, all muscle. Seems to me like that wouldn't go poof just 'cause he took a potion to turn himself human.

I'm just spitballin' here, obviously. But all I'm saying is that writing Azul off is a bad idea."

(All of the above dialogue is 100% accurate to the original game! Floyd's "I'm just spitballin' here" line might make it seems like he is just guessing and doesn't actually know, but his original line is closer to, "I don't know all the details," and sounds more like he knows this information is fact, he just can't give a physiology lesson on how it all works.)

But Floyd's information is a little vague: he says Azul has "crazy grip strength" and his "submission holds are bad news," but that is the same line where he talks about Azul in his merform--so is he talking about mer-Azul or human-Azul? Or is he not making a distinction because there isn't one?

Can Azul snare people and pin them down on land, or was Floyd half-relating an anecdote from when they lived underwater?

But then came Book 6 and a line from Azul himself saying that his "arms are quite powerful," unlike Riddle's.

This seems to confirm that Azul is physically stronger than most people, but then comes the thunder spear:

Riddle asks for help lifting it and Azul struggles under its weight, despite how this would have been the ideal opportunity to illustrate how physically capable Azul really is.

But maybe the thunder spears are a tall order for anyone to lift? They're weapons from the age of the gods--maybe they just weren't designed for humans (or creatures in human form) to lift on their own?

Except:

There is Leona, who both lifts and wields the thunder spear entirely on his own, twice (he gets help from Jamil the third time).

But the rules of the thunder spears are unclear: after Team-OctaHearts' spear goes into energy-saving mode Riddle says, "I should be able to handle it now on my own," insinuating that when they are not in attack-mode they are easier to wield.

Azul carries it at first but, due to his infamously poor stamina, he does eventually give it up to Riddle.

When Azul comments on how easy RIddle makes carrying the spear look Riddle explains, "I spend most of my time learning magic. I have ever since I was born," insinuating that he is using a form of magic (perhaps levitation) to carry it and maybe does not have it physically in his arms at all.

(Vil explains that the spears are difficult to control in attack-mode due to the amount of energy they give off.)

And that asks questions about levitation that I have always wondered about!

During Glorious Masquerade Epel is only capable of carrying one crate of apples at a time.

When Malleus levitates an entire apple truck Epel comments, "I'm pretty sure only Malleus could pull off a feat like that…"

Are levitation and physical strength connected? Malleus says that he is physically stronger than humans even without his magic, so he does not serve as a good example.

Is Epel only capable of levitating one crate of apples because that is the limit of what he would be able to accomplish physically? Or do his magical limitations mirror his physical limitations by coincidence?

We know that Leona is extremely powerful (re: Leona's Power). Is Leona both physically stronger than an octopus mermaid and magically stronger than Azul, or is Azul physically stronger than Leona, but his magic wasn't enough for the spear?

And then there is the fact that Azul is, magically, extremely strong:

Jade comments that Azul's unique magic is too strong for even him to control (which is why he designed the golden contracts--to artificially rein himself in). Does that apply to all of Azul's magic, or is it just his UM?

Someone with the muscle of an octopus and a magic too strong to be wielded by its own user seems like they should be able to control a thunder spear on their own--but maybe Leona is just that strong? 🦁

Yes! It is canon that Floyd has said that Azul is insanely strong, and Azul himself has repeated it, but--

In a vignette we have Azul volunteering to carry a load of wood for Kalim. He pretends to be struggling under the weight in order to leave a lasting impression of his efforts, but as we cannot tell how much wood there is that he is hauling it can be difficult to tell how heavy it truly is--but then there is Vargas👀

At Trey's request, Jade and Azul are assigned the task of evacuating a bound Grim and Vargas from the mine. Jade takes Grim and runs away, leaving Azul behind alone with the prefect to handle Vargas--did he know that Azul would not struggle with carrying him?💪

Azul does ask for the prefect's help, but only because he is worried about bumping Vargas' head against the rocks--he does not say anything about struggling to carry him!

And this sounds very similar to a comment from Malleus on carrying Idia and Azul through the narrow stairwells of the bell tower during Glorious Masquerade! 🐉🐙

So, I'm thinking of creating an au where there are also all-female magic schools that, instead of having the dorms based on the sevens, they're based on the sidekicks or the sevens most trusted person For example: instead of the queen of hearts its the king, instead of malefica its the crow, for ursula its the eels, etc. basically a female version of NRC and also RSA where they adore the sidekicks??

I do already have a few ideas for the character and thier own spells, the most concrete one is for the housewarden from the eel one: a third year merwoman who's a caulophryne pelagica (angler fish, like the one from finding Nemo), so she's almost completely blind and has bioluminescent features that she can control, in human form she has a mostly white/very light attire that seems almost trasparent and long straight hair and an eearie presence, once in the water and in her merform all changes and becomes a darker colour except the biolumi parts. She's also particulary ineterested in poisons and poisonous plants. I'm undecided about her name so I'll leave it up to votes.

Big underwater world. Unicron injured from a fight barely awake falls deep to the bottom of the water floor.

He crushes lot of abandoned dead eggs but one. His blood is absorbed into the egg and it comes back to life and creature inside grows

Some time passes Moon finds him slumbering..Earth pops out staring him down with dark eyes and munching on a "fish" (she collects parasites from body of her savior and eats them Cron is a sleeping buffet basically)

She refuses to leave the area. Moon not being a deep dweller creature(eventualy he adapts) tries to visit as much as he can and keeps her company and teaches her stuff(and tries to give her better diet because "No! Stop that that is not healthy! " *cue her chewing faster*)

Once when she convinced him to sleep in the area Moon almost cried histericaly when the giant in his slumber shifted and hugged Earth and by proxy Moon to himself

The two used to(moon saw her doing it and decided to teach her properly and joined in) groom scales of Cron when he still slumbered (if Unicron knew he rumbled happily once during these he would deny it forever)

When Unicron wakes they all start traveling together. She outgrows Moon but is not bigger than Cron

Ooooh this is a fun merformers idea! Allow me to mess with it a little bit!

In the beginning, Primus and Unicron were twin leviathans born of the same pod. Primus was intended to settle and brood, raising generations of new life forms. Unicron on the other hand was created to guard and destroy the threats to his brother's fledgling offspring. Their conflict began after Primus grew to see Unicron as a threat to his firstborn. Unicron didn't like sharing his brother and Primus would rather die than watch his children be slaughtered.

Thus, they fought. In the end, Unicron was cast away by Primus's thirteen firstborn. Unicron fled to the deep parts of the world, hiding away in places where Primus's children would be unable to handle the pressure and thus leave him to recover in peace. He bitterly planned his revenge even as he fell into a deep slumber, unaware of the fact that the place he had chosen to reside was filled with the pods of a creature killed in his and Primus's skirmish.

Deep in the trenches and slumbering his injuries away, Unicron's blood infused the pods he slept upon. Most were unable to handle the taint and perished. Some grew too quickly and emerged malformed, dying soon after their birth. But one of the pods received the perfect amount of Unicron's blood, and it was from that pod that Earth was born.

Colored like the kelp that grew further up in the trenches, Earth was perfectly hidden as he fluttered about the form of the one she immediately claimed as her father. After all, mothers merely lay the pods. Fathers say with them. Unicron may not have looked like her in the slightest, but to Earth, that was irrelevant. He watched over her, and she in turn cleaned his wounds, removed parasites from his scales, and ensured that he was in as good as health as possible. She only left Unicron's side to feed on the plant life further up the trenches closer to the surface.

That was how Moon found her. He saw her merrily collecting kelp and other plants to take back down into the trenches and he decided to follow her. As one of Primus's second generation spawn, he was larger than the rest and his and his siblings purpose was to fill the void left by Unicron. Of course he had to investigate a young mer without a guardian.

He almost lost his mind when he found just who Earth was returning to and caring for. He tried to get her to leave, but Earth was having none of it. She did not know his language, but she made it quite clear that Unicron was her father and she had no intention of abandoning him. With no other choice, Moon resolved himself. He couldn't leave Unicron unobserved, especially not when a strange creature like Earth was guarding him. She was not strong, but she was... interesting.

Moon took it upon himself to visit her whenever he could. He forcefully adapted to the deep and learned to force his body to glow brighter than normal to pierce the gloom of the trenches. Slowly, he earned Earth's trust, and together they worked to keep the Unmaker comfortable. Moon did so in order to hopefully keep the slumbering leviathan calm. Earth was just happy to have someone to teach her how to clean her father's scales properly. As time passed, Moon grew larger to compensate for his extended time in the deep, and Earth became stronger. They came to rely on each other.

Moon would go up and drive away threats that were too much for Earth to handle. Earth would in turn forage and hunt for food for all three of them. Unicron didn't eat much in his slumber, but every now and then he stirred for a snack, which Earth was all too happy to provide. Mars and Pluto became involved when Mars took it upon himself to set up shop on the surface near the trenches. He was afforded protection in exchange for his silence regarding Unicron. Pluto was a pain to convince to say out of it, but he too agreed to leave Unicron alone in exchange for regular cleaning from Earth who was quickly becoming well known for her gift in putting scales in order.

By the time Unicron woke, he had unintentionally garnered a pod of four leviathans, one of which was technically his spawn. Did he still want to crush Primus? He wasn't entirely sure anymore. After all, despite their disagreement, Unicron couldn't exactly find himself disappointed in Earth or her choice of companions.

Like merformers starscream had gotten a beating from megatron for whatever his latest takeover scheme was and the reader found Starscream injured on the strip of inlet her backyard is on. She nursed the merformer back to health and now he’s kind of spoiled because whenever he can’t get food or just doesn’t feel like hunting he knows he just has to show up and the readers house and she will have some sort of food for him. He won’t admit it but Starscream is developing a crush and puff up his fins and Gill frills to look bigger (he’s totally posturing) 😂

•Starscream retreated back into the water but he didn’t leave, he just sort of swam circles where he could still keep an eye on you

•You figured some food might help him feel better so you went in to get the rest of the fish you’d cooked earlier that day

•You set it on the beach, on a plate of course and sat back down to wait 

•Starscream smelled the fish and hesitantly swam closer to the shore, grabbing the fish quickly and stuffing it into his mouth before diving back under

•This became almost a daily occurrence, Starscream would appear on the shallows behind your house and you would feed him whatever you happened to have at hand 

•He also let you take off his bandages after about a week of this whole trust building exercise

•Starscream started to bring you gifts in exchange for the food, things like sea shells and fish, but he mostly brought the fish so you would cook it and give it back to him because he was starting to get a bit spoiled

•Every time you come to bring him food, he tries to look as big as he can because he wants to impress you and seem strong

•One night you were going for a little swim and Starscream appeared and started swimming slow circles around you

•You were just floating there, looking up at the night sky and smiling

I imagine it's quite cute when they're sleepy. Even in their human forms, they still have some mer features that translate over.

I think they still can purr and chirp, as well as clack their jaws. It's a big unnerving to hear such sounds from someone who looks human, but also you know they're not human.

It might just be a bit weird, hearing a clicking sound come from his throat when you scratch a spot on his scalp that feels juuuust right. But it's him, your spooky scary eelmer, and you can be at ease knowing that the sounds he makes are because he's content and comfortable.

Floyd might be more inclined to vocalize his pleasure, he's never been shy with his feelings. If he's getting a good back scratch and kisses from his mate, then why shouldn't he be loud and proud about it? Occasionally you'll have your friends walk into Ramshackle and find a large Floyd completely engulfing you in his arms as he rests on your belly. He's purring and smiling as he cuddles into you, it's almost a sweet view if the others forgot just who Floyd was. You'd think rumors and jokes would spread about him being a big soft sap, until someone makes the wrong comment about him being your little pet. Then they remember the strengths that morays are known for when they feel a crack in their ribs.

Jade, on the other hand, is always reserved in his affections. He doesn't hide that he's without, everyone knows, as he's quite blunt about it. People also notice that he is a bit more close and touchy with you than others: hovering around you, touching the small of your back, offering his arm to walk with you to class. It's all quite gentlemanly, which is the exact image Jade wants everyone to have. It's why you will only ever catch him curled into your side, arms wrapped around you as he breathes into your neck. It's not quite as loud as his merform, but you can feel the vibration from his soft purrs as you scratched his back under his loose shirt, dressed for sleep instead of the usual suits and uniforms. You two are in his room, where no one else can interrupt you or see him so vulnerable. Except Floyd and Azul, the former making increasingly complicated efforts to barge in mid-cuddle to take pictures for their mom (and blackmail). Unfortunately, Jade has a sixth sense for his brother and his mischief (mostly to join in) and you'd often find yourself mid-scratch when Jade suddenly launches up to tackle a barging Floyd. Swiftly and smoothly, Jade is able to kick Floyd out and hold his phone hostage for a few more hours until his brother starts trying to crawl in the vents, in which case cuddles are canceled until Floyd is bored again.

Cauliflower jellyfish is a pacific jellyfish species found in the Indo-pacific and the Atlantic Oceans. It is a giant old-world water jellyfish with an odd purple umbrella-shaped bell! They are sometimes called crown jellyfish, which may confuse with the completely unrelated Attollas, also called crown jellyfish.

Cauliflower jellyfishes tolerate freezing water and often live in depths over 3000 meters (9842 ft). They mostly live in the Pelagic zone of many oceans and seas. Their diet consists of Algae, shrimp, plankton, fish eggs, and invertebrate larvae.

Description

you usually lived your days floating around the sea and enjoying the currents as you went. you had a large somewhat inverted bell at your hips your tentacles hanging below. you are about 3 feet tall in your mer form, with about 1-foot-long tentacles hanging below you. your skin is a pale semi-translucent purple. You have blue frill-like things on your shoulders. You have short, dark, purple hair and the bell at your hips is a pretty golden/orange color with light blue tentacles hanging below your form.

In your human form, you have fairly pale and near-grey skin, it is a grey-purple color in direct sunlight. Your shoulders are a blue color, almost like they are constantly bruised. you enjoy more flowy, light clothing and wear easy-to-slip-off sandals. You are fairly boneless like other invertebrate merfolk. along your lower legs are lines that mimic your stinging tentacles. your stinging ability is mostly stuck to your legs and feet. so if you ever felt threatened a good kick would have someone doubled over for a few hours.

Azul: didn’t realy pay you much mine since you just wandered around campus like some sort of ghoul. If you were dumb enough to sign any of his contracts he’ll try to have you waiting tables. When someone tried to harass you and you knocked them out with a strong slap kick. You were then just kinda set to wander with light waiting and secondary security when Floyd skips work. After his overblot he’s glad you’re pretty easy going and forgiving.

When he got to see your enemies he definitely saw a nice money opportunity. Your mer form was regal and beautiful! It would be a beautiful display and you could just float around the tank! But if you didn’t want that then he wouldn’t pressure you much. But he does admire your strange beauty and colors. Is anyone tried to make fun of your for looking like a stupid or weird jellyfish rest assured he will defend you.

Jade: was interested by your pale and somewhat deathly complexion. Asked about your health and you just said it was normal. Under the sunlight then it finally clicked what you were. He liked to observe how you were daily relaxed in your way of thinking. Yet wouldn’t hesitate to kick someone and leave them with a painful aching spot. A bit surprised that your stinging venom is only in your legs but can’t help but smirk when you jump kick someone. might ask you to teach him how to use his legs in a similar matter.

When he saw your mer form he chuckled a bit at your odd shaped bell and bright colors. Assured you it’s fine and that you look very pretty in the water like this. Such vibrant colors would make a fine display in t he lounge aquarium. There would be many happy to watch you float around. If you say no he’ll understand though. Just an offer~

Floyd: little anemony! squishy little thing. With a stinging kick. Likes to poke and prod at you since you’re so jelly like. Calls you anemone since you remind him of a darker type of anemone he’s seen. He just giggled when you try to use your stoning kick against him. Demands asks you to teach him how to kick like that. And in turn he teaches you how to squeeze someone.

when he first saw your merform he realized you were a cauliflower jelly and started to call you by that. Loved to poke and bounce your shoulder frills and just bike at your squishy form in general. He’s a menace to jellyfish and bounces you lol a ball. Launching you through the water despite you trying to sting him. His slime is too thick he’ll explain while bouncing you more. Makes sure you’re fine but love to play with you.

Ace: teases that you look like the ramshackle ghosts with your pale almost deathly complexion. He likes to poke and prod at you many times during class and when just waking around. He tags along on your wandering so he has an excuse to get away from his regular responsibilities. When he saw your blue shoulders he was a bit conserved. Joking at how clumsy you are. You just remark that those are normal. They don’t hurt and nothing wrong. He likes to look at you in the sunlight since your skin is a pretty purple.

when he first saw your mer form he laughed. Pretty rude but once he got himself together he explained that he eats laughing because for 1 the completion made sense, 2 Floyd name for you was dead on, and 3 you did look kinda funny though. Liked to bounce the blue frills on your shoulders and poke at the golden ring around your hips. Careful to avoid your stingers. Other than that though he doesn’t really care that you’re a mer person. As long as you’ve got his back then he’s got yours.

He was once bound to his job at the Mostro Lounge through a contract, but after Azul's overblot, he has continued to perform out of his own free will... though it tends to be based on whether he feels like it that day, which is deeply upsetting to Azul (who would much prefer Cyrus to at least show up on a consistent schedule). However, Cyrus literally does not care. He lives on his own time. Much like he does with Floyd, Azul just has to deal with it.

Cyrus is Azul's voice trainer. This is a leftover aspect of the contract, from when Azul needed to plausibly sound like Cyrus for Swim With Us to activate. Post contract-destruction, however, he still serves as Azul's voice trainer "because Inky soooo needs it. Where would he even be without me? Don't ever say I'm not as generous as the Sea Witch."

The contract she made with Azul was in her sophomore year (Azul's freshman year, when he started the Mostro Lounge). It dictated that in exchange for continual updates on the life of Cyrus's ex (super messy, we do NOT have the time for that), Cyrus would attract customers to the newly opened cafe using any means necessary for as long as Cyrus attended NRC. For the deal's collateral, Cyrus gave up Swim With Us.

However, Azul was rarely allowed full use of Swim With Us because 1) Cyrus needed it to continually perform duties at the Mostro Lounge, since the contract's terms lasted for as long as he was at NRC and 2) Cyrus pointed out that Azul would have a hard time completely taking Cyrus's voice for himself, considering everyone at NRC likely had heard Cyrus sing or speak at one point. They settled on imbuing Swim With Us into a cheap Coral Sea souvenir shell-shaped pendant that Cyrus would wear around his neck and which Azul had the right to take off of him and wear whenever he needed it.

In the heyday of Cyrus's contract with Azul, Cyrus didn't only use Swim With Me to lure students into the cafe. She'd also use her magic to subliminally message customers into staying longer, buying more and more items off the menu, and tipping generously. Definitely unscrupulous business practice, but hell if Cyrus cares. It's not any worse than targeted advertising. Post-contract destruction, she's toned down on using Swim With Me to influence customers. Mostly only because the spell drains a lot of energy that she could be using to.... I dunno. File her nails and scroll through Magicam while Azul glares at her because she's still technically on the clock even if she's not singing.

Although Floyd refers to her as Koi Fish / Nishikigoi-chan, Cyrus's merform actually more closely resembles a clearfin lionfish.

FULL SPRITE:

In her human form, she bears a striking resemblance to Prince Rielle-- from afar, they look incredibly similar, save for hair shade, hair style, and eye color. She sometimes leverages this similarity to her advantage, but generally dislikes the comparison. Her merform is much more distinct in appearance so she pretty much only gets this comparison when she's on land.
