Morton's syndrome: understanding and relieving foot pain
Introduction
- What is Morton's syndrome? A simple explanation of plantar nerve compression, using a metaphor (for example: imagine a pinched electrical wire...).
- Who is affected? Risk factors (age, sex, physical activity, type of footwear).
- Why is it important to talk about it? The impact on quality of life (pain, difficulty walking, etc.).
Tumblr media
The symptoms
- Typical pain: burning, tingling, numbness, sensation of a foreign body.
- Where do they occur? Precise location of the pain (between the toes, often between the 3rd and 4th).
- When do they appear? Triggering factors (walking, wearing tight shoes).
The causes
- Nerve compression: Detailed explanation of the mechanism (narrow shoes, flat feet, repetitive sporting activities).
- Risk factors: anatomy of the foot, professional activities, etc.
Diagnosis
- How do you recognise Morton's syndrome? The various examinations (clinical examination, X-ray, MRI).
- When should you consult a specialist? Warning signs.
Treatment options
- Conservative treatments: Rest, orthopaedic insoles, anti-inflammatory drugs, infiltrations.
- Surgery: When is it necessary? Different techniques.
Prevention
- Choosing the right shoes: Advice on how to avoid compressing the nerve.
- Caring for your feet: The importance of daily care (pedicure, moisturising).
- Appropriate physical activity: Exercises to strengthen foot muscles.

what are some ways hypermobility can effect your body that no-one really talks about?
it's interesting actually because i don't think hypermobility is inherently disabling. we've all heard about those freaks (affectionate) who are active and healthy, but just happen to be able to contort their bodies into unbelievable shapes. so much of hypermobility seems to be the way it interacts with other factors. I'll go over some stuff that i know is directly related to hypermobility though!
hypermobility has little to do with joints, and everything to do with everything else. see, muscles are connected to bone by tendons. hypermobility increases the stretch of the tendons. this is like making the ropes attaching your hammock to the trees really stretchy. so when the actual muscle flexes, it first must pull the tendons tight before it can start moving the bone that it's attached to. ergo, hypermobility makes the muscles work harder to achieve the same results as non-hypermobile bodies.
for a lot of people who have hypermobility and don't realize it, and now have chronic pain, this is often due to the overuse of muscles. you are not weak, you are not frail, you are just very, very tired. please look at my pinned post--learning how to treat trigger points has allowed me to treat my pain!! it's reversible!! you CAN get better!!
relatedly, this is why building muscle can help combat the negative effects of hypermobility. but you can't build your muscles until they've been treated for overuse. this is where i think a lot of physiotherapy falters.
seems to be related to estrogen! because estrogen is involved with collagen synthesis, and collagen is the thing in the tendons that makes things stretchier. I've yet to read more into this in detail, but considering hypermobility seems to affect those with higher levels of estrogen in the body, I'm not surprised.
similarly, pregnancy causes the tendons and ligaments to loosen, presumably due to the aforementioned effects of estrogen. whether or not things go back to normal after pregnancy, I don't know.
hypermobility can also affect the veins and nerves, making THEM stretchy as well. I'm more knowledgeable about the muscular impacts, but I've seen suggestions that varicose veins are more likely, causing the veins to stretch around blockages rather than. be blocked by them.
in a fit of irony, i, personally, think that hypermobility actually saves the body from the effects of stress--or more specifically, body wide muscular tension. because when your muscles get tight enough, they pull on the bones and start pinning nerves and crushing veins--literally crushing you to death. having a wibbly, squishy body could totally counter that. could even be why women tend to live longer than men! this bullet point is pure speculation on my part though, so take that with a grain a salt (or however much you want to trust my hypotheses gjfj)
the way hypermobility presents in people can make it difficult to diagnose. for instance, people who aren't super stretchy could be hypermobile, except their muscles have stiffened up so much that they seem like they have normal range of motion. my mother, queen of eds, is like this! that's why it's important to look across a broad range of diagnostic criteria, and consider your history and the current state of your body.
I DONT...actually think stretching makes hypermobility worse. but i do think stretches need to be targeting the right spots to be effective. unfortunately this requires knowing things both about the human body and your own body. it's a lot of work.
oh also hypermobility can make your body feel less stable and more unbalanced. and when you feel unbalanced you start clenching muscles so you don't fall over. and then those muscles get overused and tired, so you clench other muscles to keep THOSE muscles from failing. it's a nasty little feedback loop that can be difficult to break, and if allowed to continue, it can really fuck your shit up.
but i really do want to stress that so many of the problems related to hypermobility are not only treatable but reversible. muscle overuse is a HUGE problem with hypermobility, but after reading the book in my pinned post (and realizing that every pain pattern in there matched MY pain patterns) I've been able to work on recovery.
like i had symptoms of carpel tunnel, of tendonitis, bursitis, even some symptoms of diabetes and pancreatitis, (and more but if i keep listing them we'll be here all day) and the muscle treatment in that workbook has steadily reduced and eliminated those symptoms. my mother was practically bed bound by her disability and now she can go on short walks and feels better than she has in a very long time. it's reversible. you don't have to be in pain forever. we can all get better (it'll just take a while, I've been doing this for a year and a half and I'm still working at it, but what matters is that I'm better)

A month or so ago I made a video about eldest daughter syndrome, a term I saw being talked about online, and so many of your related to it. As I began to research and explore family dynamics, family PTSD, sibling order and sibling traits, I saw a lot of research around the golden child. What is the golden child? It's often the child that does everything perfectly, but also has the highest expectations from their parents. The golden child or the favorite child may often have to deal with things that other children don't. Or, perhaps you may feel like the least favorite child or kid in your household, and were ignored versus a sibling who was the golden child of your home. What was your experience as a sibling in your house? Do you relate to being the golden child? Or was one of your siblings the golden child?

and who could forget dear ratboy
My popular opinion is that the koopalings are bowser's adopted children. My unpopular opinion is that they all aged up tiny kong style between the events of super mario world & new super mario bros wii and that bowser, suffering from empty-nest syndrome, wished for another baby turtle and soon got one courtesy of a very unfortunate stork. Junior's introduction to the koopalings was a little tense at first - particularly for Ludwig, whose unspoken assumption of succeeding the Koopa throne was immediately shattered - but once everyone got over themselves (including Ludwig, who never really wanted to rule anyway), Bowser Jr. was welcomed into the fold as yet another annoying baby brother.
Reasons bowser jr looks up to his siblings
Larry: knows all the shortcuts to wii games, helps him download secret cartoons without netflix
Morton: big teeth, physically impressive, nice to him
Wendy: highly aggressive demeanor to scare off potential adversaries
Iggy: scary as fuck, invents all types of crazy crap (inspired bowser jr to make the boss robots in super mario galaxies)
Roy: cool with the sunglasses, knows everything (i.e. if you ask him any question he will just make up an answer on the spot)
Lemmy: does not care at all what people think of him, gives good advice
Ludwig: "i don't know. he's kind of a nerd"

re: Ethan's gentle reserves nature - not sure if you've watched TGM but I'm curious if you get the same vibes from older Mav? for me it's a tossup if TC is just like that in recent roles or if Ethan in particular has terminal eldest daughter syndrome because all his spy parents/mentors sucked and he just didn't have any siblings to shepherd around until GP
Ok so I have to be honest TGM was the first non-MI TC movie I watched so it was a while ago now. And so I don’t feel like I’m entirely qualified to speak on it. That being said from what I remember Mav is—very kind, and definitely tired, but he doesn’t seem to have Ethan’s particular kind of careful reserve around people. He’s very outspoken in general, and it shows in his demeanor and his body language. I remember him as being somewhat more physically expressive than Ethan, and although they have a similar sense of kind playfulness I wouldn’t necessarily describe Mav as intentionally gentle (when he is, it’s more situational and less of a character trait). Mav is also quicker to anger than Ethan, and quicker to get drawn into petty disputes than Ethan, who keeps himself very carefully cut off from that sort of thing. Mav engages with the kids and tests and teases and pushes them where Ethan tends to treat even his closest teammates with—lots of care, but a constant emotional distance, rarely if ever bringing up grievances/past hurts. For example, I can’t imagine mcquarrie era Ethan shoving a teammate the way Mav shoves Rooster in TGM. TC’s later roles….with the exception of Nick Morton and Barry Seal (love of my life hiiii) you tend to feel their age, a sense of tiredness, a stubborn doggedness, but IMO there’s not one of them that has Ethan’s particular carefulness and gentleness when dealing with people. Thinking here of Nick Morton, Barry Seal, Maverick, Jack Reacher in Never Go Back. That was part of why I was so struck by that quality of Ethan’s on rewatch, cause my first experience with TC was mission impossible and I unconsciously ascribed a lot of that quality to an older TC’s general vibes—not realizing that…in a lot of his other movies, including the later ones, he usually plays relatively brash characters. Ethan is a kinda unusual TC protagonist and what’s more, TC didn’t have to act him that way…the writing doesn’t demand it, although it occasionally subtly suggests it. Most of that gentle quality is coming from the acting. Anyway it’s interesting to me that Ethan is TC’s longest-running role. Would love any TGM-loving mutuals to weigh in on all this if you have thoughts btw

Pro Wrestling Illustrated : APRIL 1996
RING SIDE with Bill Apter
Transcript Below!!!
One of the men allegedly responsible for the brutal attack on Shawn Michaels outside a Syracuse, New York, nightclub on October 14 has been charged with second-degree assault. According to the Syracuse Post-Standard, Douglas D. Griffith, 23, a U.S. Army soldier from Canastota, New York, was arraigned in Onondaga County Court on December 6, then released into the custody of military police pending a hearing scheduled for December 14. Depending on which report you read, there were anywhere from four to 10 men involved in the October 14 incident. At first Shawn opted to not press charges, but he changed his mind a few weeks later.
Michaels did return to the ring just three weeks after he was beaten up, but he was sent home by his doctors after collapsing in the ring during a match with Owen Hart on November 20. He has since been diagnosed with post concussion syndrome, and it could be several months before he is allowed to wrestle again.
WWF President Gorilla Monsoon is confusing me. He’ll strip some wrestlers of their titles, he’ll fine others who blatantly break rules or sneak-attack their rivals, yet when Bob Backlund attacks broadcaster Jim Ross, a sound engineer, and World champ Bret Hart all in the span of two days, Monsoon does practically nothing! All he did was issue a statement that said he will have Backlund arrested if he attacks any other non-wrestling employees of the WWF. Come on, Gorilla, what does this guy have to do to get suspended or banned, procure the chicken wing on you?
[Shawn Michaels returned home to rest after collapsing in the ring on November 20. Meanwhile, one of the men involved in the beating of Michaels outside a nightclub in October was charged with second-degree assault.]
By the way, have you seen how chummy Bob–I mean, Mr. Backlund has become with Dean Douglas. Backlund presented Douglas with the “Board of Education” at a TV taping in November. The “Board” is a paddle similar to the ones teachers used to use on unruly students years ago (not me, of course). He may not get much to use it much, though, because from what I hear, with the exception of Mr. Backlund, Douglas isn’t getting along with anyone in the WWF and may have left by the time you read this.
ECW’s Taz is a bit surly these days as well. “I don’t need any friends in this sport!” he told me when I reached him by telephone recently. Well, he does have at least one friend in ECW these days–his new manager, Bill Alfonso. Yes, it’s the same Bill Alfonso whom fans in ECW despise because he tried to make the wrestlers in the federation more rule-abiding. “You know, when I look at everyone in ECW, I think Mr. Alfonso is the only man I can truly trust,” Taz said. “He’s the only friend I need!”
Manataur, now Bruiser Mastino, is not doing well in ECW so far. He lost his first three matches in that federation …  More federation jumping: The Heavenly Bodies have entered ECW, where their feud with Public Enemy was cut short when Rocco Rock and Johnny Grunge decided to leave for WCW.
[Hes at it again! Bob Backlund attacked Bret Hart and a few non-wrestling WWF employees with his chicken wing in late-November. WWF President Gorilla Monsoon has done very little to deter him from doing it again.]
[Swinging chairs at opponents’ head is something Johnny Grunge and his partner, Rocco Rock, have done regularly for the last few years in ECW. Soon they’ll be trying their luck in WCW]
I asked the boys if their confidence might have been affected by their recent sub-par effort against WWF tag team champions The Smokin’ Gunns (see story on page 39). Their reaction was, well, predictable.
“Apter,” Rock spat, “it’s amazing that you’ve been around this sport so long and still ask such stupid questions!”
I guess that means no.
Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson, better known as The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express, have patched up their differences and are appearing together in independent federations all over the South. Also, Morton and Beau James won the Southern States Wrestling tag team belts in December, beating Death and Destruction … AAA’s Chicano Power is now wrestling without a mask after losing a mask vs mask to Tinieblas Jr.
Even though The Undertaker did not win the WWF World title in his series of matches against Bret Hart, manager Paul Bearer believes his man is still capable of winning the belt. “Diesel, Davey Boy Smith, Owen Hart, Yokozuna–they all interfered when my Undertaler was on the road to glory against ‘The Hitman’” Bearer told reporters at a recent press conference. “It is no fault of his own that he is not wearing the gold belt.”
“Yeah, it’s unfortunate that people ran in and destroyed an excellent competitive match,” Hart said. “Undertaker and I pushed ourselves to the limits, and either one of us could have won had there been no interference.”
[Hunter Hearst Helmsley is a man of refined tastes, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he hasn’t enjoyed having Henry Godwinn dump his bucket of slop over his head after some of their matches.]
Star Ryder is the new Pro Wrestling Federation junior heavyweight champion after beating Masked Maniac on December 5 in Charlotte, North Carolina … Former WWF World champion The Iron Sheik, a 22-year veteran, has signed for several matches in the PWF … Lanny Poffo, the brother of WCW World champion Randy Savage, is negotiating with WCW.
Hunter Hearst Helmsley told reporters he is “completely disgusted that the World Wrestling Federation persists in allowing that Henry Godwinn fellow to dump buckets of hog slop upon my beautiful body.” Someone should remind that Helmsley fellow that when he signed for a series of “slop” matches against Godwinn, he had to know he was likely to get slop thrown on him at some point!
Capt. Lou Albano has been managing former Headshrinker Fatu on several independent cards up and down the East Coast … Give Savannah Slim some credit. He tried to be brave and defend the IWA tag team title by himself when his partner, Hollywood Hubie, didn’t show up for a scheduled title defense in Springfield, Ohio. Their scheduled opponents, Kenny “Hurricane” Hendrix and The Wrecker, showed Slim no sympathy. They destroyed him and are now wearing the belts … Mexican WWA champion Rey Mysterio Jr. is still feuding with Psicosis and Juventud Guerrera in Mexico.
Remember Dark Journey? She was a manager/wrestler in the old UWF back in the mid-1980s. She had been retired from wrestling for a few years, but she came back to help her old friends Chris Adams and Action Jackson at a Confederate Wrestling Association card in Texas. She was in their corner when they faced Bull Pain and Firebreaker Chip, who had Gen. Skandor Akbar in their corner. As you might have guessed, Akbar didn’t do much interfering with Journey around.
When I first became a wrestling fan many, many years ago, I used to love to watch (little person) matches, so you can imagine how I felt when I learned of the death of the great (little person) star Little Beaver. Beaver, whose real name was Lionel Giroux, died in St. Jerome, Quebec, on December 4 after a long battle with emphysema. I remember him telling reporters years ago that his greatest moment in the ring was when he faced King Kong Bundy, who weighs 446 pounds, in a tag team match at WrestleMania III. I also fondly remember his classic bouts against Sky Low Low. They were great. Little Beaver, who was 61, is survived by his son, Lionel Jr.
[Little Beaver, one of the all-time great (little person) wrestlers, died in December at the age of 61. Beaver, who wrestled professionally for nearly 40 years, was voted (Little Person) of the Year in 1973.]

hey op uh. i also have a fibro diagnosis! and i get all of these things! and in the last year or so, I've had a lot of time to do research into my own chronic pain and the chronic pain of people around me, and I've found a very widespread, consistent link between a lot of it. the fact that you emphasize your difficulty with standing and walking really makes me think that it might apply to you as well
it's called Morton's Foot Syndrome, but it's also been known as the Greek Foot, flatfootedness, high arches, and many more terms. i personally call it Neader Foot, because this foot type seems to have come from our Neanderthal ancestors, whose feet were more equipped for sprinting than they were for walking.
the short of is that Neander Foot reduces the stability of the foot. a foot adapted for walking and standing has three points of contact with the ground, which allows the rest of the body to relax. on the other hand, Neander Foot only has two points of contact, a bit like walking around on ice skates. people with Neander Foot often feel like they're going to fall over.
and it doesn't stop there--this instability in the body forces a person with Neander Foot to clench their muscles in order to stop their ankles and legs from buckling. standing for more than 30 minutes is long enough to promote overuse in a muscle, which leads to triggerpoints begining to form. triggerpoints cause just about every symptom under the sun--symptoms that I've discovered strongly resemble those of fibromayalgia.
over time, as the muscles in the legs weaken and grow tired from overuse, muscles throughout the rest of the body are then recruited to help keep the body standing upright. again, it only takes about 30 minutes of keeping a muscle continuously flexed for triggerpoints to form--and this was the cause of my widespread pain.
if you're interested, take a read through my blog! i talk about the intersection of Neander Foot with other traits such as hypermobility, estrogen based symptoms, pregnancy, etc etc and I've recently brought my thoughts and research to my doctor, who seemed very interested in what i had to say
the best part is that I've been forming a treatment for ailments stemming from Neander Foot based on my research with a lot of success, both for myself and the many, many people with Neander Foot around me (I've yet to meet someone i know for certain that DOESN'T have Neander Foot, which despite the inherent bias of my social circle is uh. well it seems that it's Extremely Common.) and even within a week of adding appropriate padding to the shoes there's SO much improvement in both pain and fatigue. my own pain and fatigue are the lowest they've been in years, in fact.
so maybe it can help you too?
Things That Hurt When You Have Fibromyalgia That Should Not Hurt:
Blood pressure cuffs when doctors take your blood pressure.
A simple poke from someone else, especially on the tender points
Tripping over something - only mildly, not a bad trip. I trip over things and it hurts like a Bitch.
If I accidentally graze my arm or my body against a wall a bit or something, it also hurts like a Bitch. Again, I'm not talking about badly, I'm not being pushed into a wall or something.
Standing. Just for a few seconds. I actually don't know for sure if this is really a part of my fibromyalgia or actually normal for everyone. But it really fucking hurts to stand for even a few seconds.
Walking for even just an hour hurts. And the longer I walk, the worse it hurts.
The simple act of. Cooking. It hurts to hold the pots/pans, especially with one hand. I can't really lift pans/pots because I'm weak, but also it just Hurts. It hurts to mix things in the pots/pans.
(Others can feel free to add on).
Common Descriptions Of Pain When You Have Fibromyalgia:
Feeling like your whole body is bruised, or some parts of your body.
"Feels like I was in a car crash"
Stiffness, throbbing, aching, soreness, tenderness, fatigue. Your body feels exhausted, and not even necessarily that YOU feel tired, but your body feels tired.
"Feels like being stabbed with a knife"
"Like someone has taken a hammer and hammered all over my body"
"Like I'm hungover"
"Like I ran a marathon"
"Like perpetually having the flu", "Like you have a fever constantly"
“It feels like I’ve been carrying two huge buckets of water that I can’t put down.”
"Like I did a full body workout"
(Amongst many other descriptions)
Common Habits I've Developed Throughout My Life As A Result Of Having Fibromyalgia:
Constantly leaning against walls and frequently switching which foot I'm leaning on more.
Asking people if they wanted to sit down, or if they wanted a chair to sit down somewhere, because I thought they were in pain too. Them declining and me thinking "but doesn't it hurt to stand?? You've been standing for like 15 minutes, aren't you in pain??" They are not.
Constantly sitting down, and/or wanting to sit down, wishing I had a place to sit down.
Not really a habit, but I always end up freaking out a bit when I worry that I've hurt someone. I realized that I would constantly apologize to my girlfriend because I thought I hurt her accidentally (very mild things I mean, I'm not saying I fucking punch him or some shit lmfao), only for her to be confused and say that it didn't hurt. It takes conscious effort to remember that what hurts me does not hurt most other people without fibromyalgia or a different chronic pain condition.
I've had fibromyalgia for pretty much my entire life.
I believed that these things were normal for everyone.
I would look at people and watch how they'd do things like simply lifting up a box or the ways people talk about walking for hours just for fun and just not understand why they were doing it because that hurts?
Growing up, when my brother would ""lightly"" punch me, or my dad would poke me, etc., it always hurt really bad, and my brother shamed me (my brother was severely abusive in many ways, yes) and would go "oh my God, please, you're being dramatic, I didn't even punch you/poke you hard at all." I truly don't think he WAS punching me that hard, I just had fibromyalgia so it hurt like twenty times worse (I'm not excusing his behavior, by the way, I'm just explaining that things that would hurt somebody with fibromyalgia wouldn't hurt most other people without it).
I grew up constantly wishing that I could float so that I didn't have to walk or stand.
I was always aware that I had certain spots around my body that felt much more painful than other parts of my body, such as the sides of my arms, my hips, etc. I also just figured this was how it is for everyone.
If you relate to anything this post, I definitely suggest seeing a rheumatologist or a neurologist (I was diagnosed by a rheumatologist) and finding out the cause of your pain.
None of these things are "normal."

TikTok's "Eldest Daughter Syndrome" Made Me Feel Seen . . . and a Little Attacked
If you ask me, my 24-year tenure as the eldest daughter has been totally fine and super chill - but not everyone remembers it that way. My parents love to rehash the time I organized a weekly meeting to make Christmas presents with my two younger siblings. In exchange for my crafting supplies, they were made to sign Crayola contracts, swearing their dedication to the holiday spirit. I was shocked when they later attempted a Christmas coup . . . but the gifts that year were still impeccable. To be fair, I held the same high standards for myself. In school, I was an avid rule follower, sometimes referred to as "bossy." When I got to middle school, this meant that everything had to be perfect - I had to be perfect. I stayed up all night erasing and rewriting my homework because my handwriting wasn't neat enough. I decorated my history notebook with ribbon and stickers and scrapbook materials just so it would stand out to my teacher. Outside of class, I went to ballet five days a week, chasing the rush I felt from even the most wayward compliment. I took piano lessons for ten years even though I hated it. I read to my sister and walked my brother home after school, once hiding us in my parents' room and grabbing a baseball bat to defend from an intruder (read: the UPS delivery man). On paper, it seems like I'm certainly a candidate for "eldest daughter syndrome" - a buzzy term on TikTok used to describe why so many eldest daughters are the way that we are. As a note: eldest daughter syndrome is not an official diagnosis. As explained by Kati Morton, LMFT in a TikTok with over 500K likes, "It's a term coined to describe the unique pressures and responsibilities placed onto the oldest daughter in the family." According to Morton, this stress can lead to: * Intense feelings of responsibility * Anxiety * Trouble setting and maintaining boundaries * People-pleasing behaviors * Resentment for family * Overachieving * Guilt * Difficulty with adult relationships The idea that birth order can influence one's character isn't new, but some might consider it a bit outdated. Psychotherapist Alfred Adler was one of the first to suggest that birth order might have an effect on personality, and even life outcomes. In 2021, a study published in Frontiers of Psychiatry found that younger siblings in Japan had the fewest reported "difficulties" and considered themselves the most resilient. By contrast, middle children were found to be the most unhappy. That being said, some researchers remain skeptical about the relationship between birth order and personality, due to mixed evidence and a myriad of confounding variables (family income, family structure, state of caregivers, etc.). Still, as long as eldest daughter syndrome doesn't claim to be a legitimate mental health diagnosis, it seems like it's helping people feel seen (if not a little attacked) . . . myself included. "So much truth it hurts a little," one commenter wrote under Morton's TikTok, along with many others, eldest daughters or not. "This is me. But not anymore. You can change this," another wrote, offering some hope to the collective. Exact circumstances vary, but the eldest daughter syndrome discourse gives emotional validation to kids who took on more than they should've. I spent a majority of my childhood feeling like a bit of a villain, but the truth is, I was just an anxious kid desperately trying to stop her little world from falling apart. I wish I could tell her that one day, her "bossiness" would become a great asset. Her handwriting is still perfect, her siblings are fine (happy, even). And let's be honest, there's no way Christmas would've gone on without her. Related: What Is High-Functioning Anxiety, Exactly? takes your hands gently. i know all the advice online says that stretching shouldnt hurt, that recovery shouldnt hurt, but for a lot people this simply is not true.
stretching should not be agonizing--you should not feel powerful, acute pain that lights up all your brains warning systems. but it does burn. it does ache. and when you do all your stretches properly, this often "wakes up" other aches and pains in the body.
the lower back post i made, for instance. those exercises hurt! they are uncomfortable! they make other parts of the body hurt!
but every day when i wake up, theres a little less tension, the exercises are a little easier. i get pain in the upper back but it pales in comparison to the other pains, and as i strengthen the lower back im given more "slack" in the upper body to stretch the sore muscles there. it still hurts but it feels better.
for a lot of people, especially people with neander foot whove had it gone untreated their entire lives, you have to take into account all the years youd spent twisting the body into the shape that it is now. how much it hurt getting to this point. untwisting it all isnt easy, it isnt painless, and will leave you feeling more exhausted than you ever have in your entire life.
but it feels better, and with neander foot specifically there is a clearly defined goal waiting at the end of the tunnel. it makes all the pain meaningful. it makes it all make sense. it makes it satisfying to have that glowing image in your mind and a way to claw yourself closer to it every day.
it hurts, and its hard work, but its deeply satisfying. and THAT i think is closer to what recovering feels like.
