The fateful introduction between newly wed Ysabell Duchess of Sto Helit and Lady Sybil Ramkin, thus kicking off a marvelous lifelong friendship.
or: I take a throw away line mentioning Sybil knowing a 'charming young couple needing a new captain of the guard in Sto Helit' and wonder what their first meeting was like...

Seriously why even care that JKR exists when Pterry wrote trans rights in 1989, in a fantasy kingdom which is otherwise chronically conservative and hasn't changed in 7000 years for plot reasons

Ysabell - Mort (Discoworld by Terry Pratchett)
Last year, @mirtadraws and I, we started to read together, to each other, because I'm really bad for reading for my own, but reading for her is so nice and funny 💕
For a long time I wanted to read something by Terry Pratchett and fortunally Mirta is a huge fan than wanted to read again the books with me and we started with Mort!
I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!
I didn't spect how fucking funny it is and all the horrors at the same time that a moderm reference appears with a gigant note. That has caught me a lot, i didn't spect that I will love so much Terry's writtings!! I'm really glad that to now enjoy everything at the same time that I'm sad to not read all his books before 😩
I want to draw more of this funny and silly characters!
Please NO SPOILERS , I just read Mort , Maurice and now I'm with The Colour of Magic , thanks so much :'-)
Special thanks to @albaharu to lend me all the books!!!

I think the funniest running gag in Mort is that nobody will say morts name no matter how much he insists, and it's not that Death forgets Morts name,,,, it just get a bit confusing when your apprentice keeps saying your name in French whenever you call him

“I'VE NOTICED THE WAY YOU TWO ALWAYS AVOID EACH OTHER. He gave Mort a conspiratorial nudge – it was like being poked with a stick – and added, ALBERT'S TOLD ME WHAT THAT MEANS.”

...lately I've been thinking a lot about Susan Sto Helit. Specifically her introduction and farewell in the Discworld series.
About how her introduction in Soul Music is through the eyes of Miss Butts who goes on describing this recently orphaned girl as:
"something frankly unloveable about the child. Academically brilliant in the things she liked doing, of course. But that was just it. She was brilliant in the same way that a diamond is brilliant, all edges and chilliness." *
And then the very last we see of Susan within the Discworld series, is in Thief of Time, ending with... well no matter one's personal opinion of Susan and Lobsang Ludd... the Death series ends with love. ( I could go on a tangent about how each Death book is about some version of Love but thats for another time)
ANYWAY the last we read of Susan is:
"She put the chocolate in her mouth, and shut her eyes. A faint cardboard-y sound made her open them. The lids were lifting on the boxes of stars. They spilled out, and whirled up into the shadows of the cupboard, brilliant against the darkness, a galaxy in miniature. Susan watched them for a while, and then said: "Alright, you have my full attention, whoever you are." At least, that is what she meant to say. The peculiar stickiness of the nougat caused it to come out as: "au-rite ou av my full at-em-ntion." Damn. The stars spiraled around her head, and the cupboard's interior darkened into interstellar black. "If this is you Death of Rats," she began. "It's me," said Lobsang. Tick! Even with nougat, you can have a perfect moment."
It ends with love!! Love for a girl who was described as "something frankly unlovable" we bid farewell to Susan in the series with a Perfect Moment!!
Does this mean anything? Do you see the glimpses of what I'm feeling and barely managing to articulate?!
*Please forgive me if the quotes aren't entirely accurate in terms of punctuation etc, I only have the audio form and transcribed it while listening.

I don't understand why everyone around her is painting her terribly fat. I think it suits her very well to be a LITTLE plump🤍

Actually, what's the political situation in Sto Helit like now?
I mean, I'm pretty sure there hasn't been a Duke of Sto Helit since Mort and Ysabell... well... (look, i'm still super sad about them ok!) I mean, there IS a Duchess of Sto Helit, but she spends 95% of her time as an extremely cool governess and 5% as the Disc's most annoyed Grim Reaper, so I'm not sure how much governing she's actually doing now. Is the new Duke just someone Susan left in charge while she pursued her dream of becoming Goth Mary Poppins? Or was Mort subscribed to William's newsletter before... uh... he left the series for good?

choose your fighter
(not included: the literal actual grim reaper, who is currently making burgers)
[ID: Five rough pencil sketches on a lined notebook page, all of characters from Mort by Terry Pratchett. Starting from the top left, the first sketch is of Mort. He is standing in a stuff neutral position with a worried expression on his face. He has slightly shaggy, curly hair and is wearing a sleeveless tunic with a shirt underneath, rolled up to his sleeves, and trousers stuffed into knee-high boots. He is also wearing a cape with the hood down, which is obscuring one of his arms. The second sketch is of Ysabell, who is standing with her arms on her hips with an annoyed expression. She has long wavy hair, and is wearing a long empire-style dress with a square neckline, slippers, and elbow length gloves. The third drawing is of Keli, who is standing with her arms crossed looking affronted. She is wearing a long corseted dress, with long bell sleeves with a sharp puff at the shoulder. She has straight hair in layers, with some hair flicking out at her ears while some goes down past her shoulders. She is wearing a tiara. The last two images only show the characters from the waist up. The fourth is of Cutwell, who is has slumped shoulders and a vaguely confused expression. He has short black hair and is wearing a wizard hat and gown with stars on it. The last sketch is of Albert, who is hunched over with an annoyed expression. He has thin hair tied up in a bun and is wearing a plain shirt and sweater and trousers. Each character has an arrow with writing pointing to them. For Mort, it reads ‘gradually losing his humanity’. For Ysabell; ‘Been 16 for 35 years’. For Keli; ‘The universe thinks she’s dead’. For Cutwell; ‘Literally just wants some food’. And for Albert; ‘Has enemies waiting for him in hell’. /End ID]

Tittle: Mort
Author: Terry Pratchett
Year: 1987
Rating: ★★★
Favourite quote: "He remembered being summoned into reluctant existence at the moment the first creature lived, in the certain knowledge he would outlive life until the last being in the universe passed to its reward, when it would then be his job, figuratively speaking, to put the chairs on the tables and turn all the lights off."
Thoughts: A fun read. The book deals a lot with Death and what's on the other side. Death is a constant character in all Discworld books but this one Death was the main character. Loved the concept that after death, you go where you think you deserve to go. All that aside, I wanted to punch Mort in the face so hard throughout the book, even though I understand he was just a teenager making (literally) life and death decisions. A good book in general, but not my favourite.
Fire? Don't remember for real
Pegging? No
Library? Yes
Others: Small Gods // Mort // Going Postal

'At least I walk as if my legs only had one knee each,' she said.
'My eyes aren't two juugly poached eggs.'
Ysabell nodded. 'On the other hand, my ears don't look like something growing on a dead tree. What does juugly mean?'
'You know, eggs like Albert does them.'
'With the white all sticky and runny and full of slimy bits?'
'Yes.'

Man, sometimes I get so emotional thinking about Terry Pratchett's Mort.
It's such a circular story, (well all the Death books are in a way, but I'm not talking about that right now) ESPECIALLY considering Death's remarkable memory (able to remember things that 'have yet to happen' etc) cause then when you reread it, you have the faintest insight to Death's memory, cause you KNOW Death shows up at midnight and takes Mort as his apprentice, you KNOW Mort and Ysabell get together especially after Mort "really got to know Ysabell" - which is a direct phrase said Twice, first by Death himself and then by Mort on their wedding.
Its fascinating and heartbreaking all at once, cause at the start Death stares down at this image of Mort who is all knees and can barely scare birds away and he (much like us upon a second reading) KNOWS this lad is going to marry Ysabell, cause chaos, and become the Duke of Sto Helit.
Also let me take a small moment to politely air out my grievances on the take that Mort and Ysabell's romance is rushed.
I politely disagree.
As readers we see Ysabell develop a crush and even love Mort, but we don't get to read and see what happens during the time after Mort challenges Death, when Mort and Ysabell and Co. wake up in the field!! We don't know what happened after they wake up, how many months passed, or their courtship
that being said I suppose it could be likewise imagined that it was rushed
but I politely do not subscribe to that
