Here's a look at the Morphagene patch I was using last night. Morphagene (playing a field recording I made years ago of some kids on a playground) into QPAS into Mimeophon into Desmodus Versio, then into the output module and out to the MPC. Modulation from Triple Sloth and Function. Planar 2 and a Lightstrip offering hands-on control.

It was beautiful.

Glitchy grooving.

Had my good friend Eric over with his modular to record a couple of jams to kick off Jamuary. I want to upload as often as possible this month, but I'm not holding myself to every day - for example, I sat down on the 2nd for it but couldn't quite get anything out. The important thing is being consistent and building tempo. I did the count and it turns out I posted 62 jams last year, after Jamuary! That's an achievement I'm fairly proud of, and I'd like to share just as much or more and keep improving this year. If things go according to plan, I'll have at least an EP to show for it by the end.

This pair of jams we recorded heavily features Spectraphon and Data Bender to give their primary character, with a plethora of other spice and sequencing. The inclusion of his Morphagene adds some more rich samples which is a usually absent from my solo jamming and makes great fuel for processing.

From before the pandemic, this was a labor of love early into my DAW days.

The entire thing is based off of this. A Digitone loop I had made in November. The beginning of the track is a rerecording of the music from that video directly into the computer. I then fed that recording into the Morphagene, a modular looper that mimics old tape machines. I probably modulated the Morphagene and let CV chew the loop up. From the Morphagene, the loop probably passed through a modular filter, delay and reverb. From there it was sent back into the computer, where it was probably processed further. The song slowly morphs into how it's heard in the video. This is a month and a half into having the computer, so I'm still learning everything. I was using either Garage Band or Logic at this point. I remember the entire transition into the third part being a pain in the ass to make. Right as it transitions into the drone section, there's a sped up little melody that plays. I wanted to export that as a loop and make a dance track with it. I could never figure out how to do it. The drone at the end is most likely the Morphagene playing the recorded loop back without being modulated by CV. @anarchist-caravan just like this but with the Octatrack in between everything and the DAW. That way it can skim bits and pieces off. Possibly the audio interface into the Octatrack to grab software too. I'm not sure. In theory it should work, but I'm not 100% sure.

I cared so much about song structure back then. I was so worried about appearing competent. Now it's just like please don't go over 8 minutes.
