The Situations of Bames Jond - Human Activist
Intro, panning shot, exterior, mid 21st century Human city Silent music, hip-hop tune over opening credits, give sense of nostalgia (Kpop or EDM?) Establishing shots of office building, then of a ICE vehicle of "muscle car" variety (will have to build a prop and CGI that), people walking around the interior (remember to get ONLY Human extras this time) Cut to BAMES JOND lighting a herb stick (prop) and angrily folding up a retro iPad.
BAMES JOND: "Curse management! These regulations won't keep the streets safe from the troublemakers. I have to take matters of importance into my own two hands,
Again..."
Cut to dramatic montage of Bames Jond's previous incidents. (hold each new shot for at least 2 seconds and lower the exposure, last premiere was a health and safety disaster with the Ker'hrah audiences) Title card: BAMES JOND 2: SELECTIVE JUSTICE SCENE 1 BAMES JOND is talking over a phone, the slim black rectangle variety, while walking around a corner of a lower income population street, and encounters TWO HUMANS in non descriptive purple attire (robes?) using compressed air bottles that shoot paint at a wall (CGI department is gonna be busy with this one, huh)
BAMES JOND: "I'll call you back later, I have an urgent situation on my hands!"
BAMES JOND approaches the TWO HUMANS and folds his hands over his chest, speaks sternly but cautiously
BAMES JOND: "Are you two artists? Did you procure a permit from the municipal government for this visual depiction you are undertaking?"
PERSON 1: "What permit? This is a free society where we can express our grievances in the public domain."
PERSON 2: "Yeah! Who are you to issue such implied suggestion that we are not complying with certain rules that do not even pertain to this situation, huh?!"
The TWO HUMANS exchange smiling glances and do a "high five" (Does anyone remember what that is? Our Human consultant is on parental leave for two more months, but we need these scenes shot quickly. -Do several improvisational takes utilizing their limbs, one has to feel right)
BAMES JOND: "I'm sorry to say that that is not how this works. This structure is legally under the jurisdiction of the local government, and I am an employee of said government. Now show me a permit or your public artist license, or things are going to have to turn unpleasant."
BAMES JOND narrows his sight at the TWO HUMANS, who are now becoming nervous and gain a stutter in their speech.
PERSON 1: "W-we would, but, uh, the thing is um..."
PERSON 2: "I-it got eaten by my pet moose, y-yeah. I am from Florida, so such things happen."
PERSON 1: "M-my license is still valid, b-but I just forgot to get a new one, what with the economy and all."
Cut to close up of BAMES JOND contemplating, insert flashbacks to news articles about Florida Man and various Prime Presidents talking about The Economy.
BAMES JOND: "Well alright, you two appear to be amicable young adults. Let me print you a map to the government building that issues new licenses and handles permits for public artistic endeavors. Remember to bring an identifying document with you, okay?"
PERSON 1: "Y-yes, thank you very much, liege."
PERSON 2: "We will pause our activity for today and g-go and get the legal matters sorted, Sama-san. Good bye!"
BAMES JOND looks on caringly at the TWO HUMANS departing the scene of an avoided unpleasant incident. SCENE 1 END

The Stars May Rise and Fall: The Annotated Re-read (Chapter 23)
Well this one was mostly about a really depressingly heavy conversation.
As always, spoilers under the cut!
So, the two-month jump in time here, from August to October. This was something that took me a long time to decide to do. I tried many times to start a chapter that would pick up right where the last left off, but it was just a situation where nothing much HAPPENED for a couple of in-universe months.
I could have added more fluff here, because the slow development of the relationship is really the only change that IS occurring, but again, I was trying to get a major publisher to buy this so I had to keep it under a certain word count and make sure the plot wasn’t TOO slow. So instead I went with a little domestic montage to show the comfortable little routine they have, and how Teru is taking care of things like cooking and washing wigs while Rei takes care of him by writing and producing the album. I also used this scene to show how Chizuru fits into that dynamic, doing laundry and taking care of Rei’s income from his more mainstream music.
We also get an argument between Rei and Chizuru. I sort of wish I’d gone into this more, but essentially I think she’s annoyed that Rei won’t take better care of himself and thereby sort of creates more work for her. It’s partly genuine concern for him but partly purely selfish—but not really in a bad way. As she’ll tell Teru later in the chapter, she’s ready to move on, but Rei makes it hard by refusing to move on or even accept his situation in a lot of ways. But Chizuru deserves to be able to move on, even if Rei can’t.
THAT SAID, she’s sort of going after the wrong thing here, and I wish I’d made that a little clearer. I think Chizuru sort of has this idea that, in general, DOING something is better than working with the status quo, and so if any new treatment or anything is suggested, she wishes Rei would try it… while I think Rei is both traumatized enough by hospitals that he doesn’t want to do anything unless it’s absolutely necessary or guaranteed to help, and also afraid that changing anything might actually result in things getting worse. (This is VERY much one of those areas where Rei is just like me… I really don’t like the idea of doing ANY elective medical procedure or taking medicine that’s not life-saving… like, I’ve never been on the Pill, and I won’t even consider something like LASIK because of the tiny, tiny risk, so obviously anything more serious like the options mentioned here would be an obvious HELL NO from me.)
ANYWAY. Chizuru is concerned that Rei doesn’t really take his pain medication a lot of the time, but I think she’s partly being ignorant. I did a lot of research on chronic pain, and especially on traumatic brachial plexus injuries (which you can Google if you want the depressing details) and in a lot of cases medication doesn’t really work (which Teru sort of acknowledges internally here). And on top of not actually eliminating the pain, you can of course become addicted, and I also think Rei just prefers to have his mind completely clear, to not interfere with his creativity. So while SOME of the things he does are definitely more than a little self-destructive, not taking very strong prescription painkillers that don’t actually work all that well is not actually a terrible choice.
Anyway, Rei makes Chizuru carry their stuff “because she’s so worried about him”… their relationship is super interesting to me and I wish I’d need able to go into it in more detail! Feel free to explore in fanfic etc. ;)
The next important scene is during the break at rehearsal, when Teru invites Rei to have lunch with the band, but of course he refuses, so Teru goes to buy him something to eat and Seika, the only one who can see what’s going on here, tells him that he really does need to tell Minori, even though he shouldn’t have to come out on anyone’s timeline but his own, because his relationship IS affecting the band at this point.
Seika says “sleeping with”—which is the norm to HIM, an allosexual gay man. But Teru and Rei ARENT having sex, and I really wish I’d made the ace-spectrum stuff more clear because some reviewers have seemed to think that it’s because of Rei’s disability and I think it’s not? It’s self esteem, partly, which in Rei’s case stems from disability, but also just that… they’re fine at this point with not doing any more than what they are? Some people like to take it slow and that’s ok!
Still, the people who were kind of expecting a steamy romance novel probably collectively lose their shit here. I’m really sorry I called it romance….
Anyway! There’s a little more arguing over Saki’s song and then, after Rei goes to sleep, Teru gets a call from Chizuru. I think at this point, the argument in the morning has kind of reminded her that she is ready to stop being Rei’s platonic life partner or whatever… but she still worries about him living off “alcohol and painkillers and no dinner”. I think she just wants Teru to take over so she doesn’t HAVE to worry, because she does want to know that Rei’s ok. She just doesn’t want to be throne in charge of keeping him that way.
So she asks Teru to meet her, and basically dumps all of Rei’s medical records on him. There’s a lot going on in this scene, and a lot of it kind of hinges on the limitations of modern medicine, which of course harkens back to all of those ignorant “This horribly disfigured character had plastic surgery and now looks completely normal” fanfics. I knew that one of the questions my readers would have was why Rei wouldn’t at least have done as much as he could to try to restore his appearance, and the short answer, provided here by Chizuru, is that really anything less than perfect wouldn’t have been good enough for him. He still wouldn’t look “normal”, so to him there’s no point in being LESS disfigured, unless “less” is “not at all”. Chizuru understands this, I think, but she doesn’t agree with it.
She also offhandedly says that Rei could “hire a chauffeur if he wanted to”, which I think shows that she DOESN’T really understand all of the psychological damage that the accident did. It frustrates her that because SHE has been able to move on after also losing a boyfriend that night, she thinks that Rei should also be able to “get over” certain things… again, even though she probably understands academically at least that it’s not that easy.
The last thing she mentions here as something Rei could do but won’t is amputating his paralyzed arm. This is something that I actually considered for the last couple of chapters, when they meet again after four years apart, but the reason I decided against it is because, again, it isn’t really guaranteed to actually help anything. The pain from that particular injury is essentially phantom pain. The nerves have basically been completely severed, so the pain comes from signals being sent and nothing coming back, so the brain says HOLY FUCK SOMETHING’S REALLY WRONG. Amputating the limb wouldn’t fix those nerves or the phantom pain, so the best it could do is, as Chizuru says, maybe alleviate some neck pain by eliminating dead weight. But I don’t think Rei would see that as a good enough trade-off to losing his arm (and losing any hope of some miracle treatment down the line, which is extremely unlikely, but I do think he has that stubborn little bit of optimism about him as well).
All of that is a very, very short passage in the book, but I thought it was really important to establish both that yes, there were things that Rei COULD do but simply chose not to, but also that there were reasons why, to him, those weren’t good options.
After this, Chizuru talks about her own past. She also lost a boyfriend, Aeternum’s bassist Taka, in the accident, and sort of ended up with Rei as a sort of antagonistic life partner because they were both the only survivors. In Chizuru’s case, she wasn’t even in the car, but went up to Sendai with Taka’s mother and ended up staying. She says that the four who died all had families who came for them, but that no one came for Rei.
I didn’t really get to go into it at all, but I have a whole backstory for Rei’s family. He grew up in a farming family (which in Japan does NOT mean poor; if you own enough land to farm you’re local royalty), but was the youngest of MANY brothers and while I wouldn’t call Rei “effeminate” necessarily he was more into music and art than physical labor. Since his family had other heirs who were more aligned with what they thought a male child “should” be, he pretty much lost contact with them when he moved to Tokyo on his own at 16. He does HAVE living relatives, but no one who would’ve been contactable at the time.
I also mentioned specifically here that he would’ve been in the hospital for over a year, which I think is important to establish both his extreme dislike of hospitals and how long it’s taken him to re-adjust to “normal” life.
Japanese hospitals treat patients like prisoners and I wouldn’t wish them on anyone.
ANYWAY. There’s a lot packed into this scene I guess, and I’m not sure I did the best job of conveying it all to readers who might not already have the background. I’m really just reminded of how much I love Rei and how writing him is always one giant breath of catharsis.

Is There a Limit to Video Distribution on Deliver My Tune? What Every Artist Needs to Know
As an independent artist, navigating the world of music distribution can be tricky, especially when it comes to understanding the limitations of different platforms. A common question many musicians have is, "Is there a limit to the number of videos I can distribute through Deliver My Tune?" The right music distribution platform can significantly impact your ability to reach audiences and generate income. With the growing importance of video content for fan engagement and revenue generation, understanding whether your distribution platform supports unlimited video uploads is essential. In this article, we’ll explore how Deliver My Tune not only supports unlimited video distribution but also helps you maximize your exposure and earnings as an independent artist.
The Role of Video in Promoting Your Music Music videos are a critical part of any artist’s promotional strategy. Whether it's official music videos, lyric videos, or live performance recordings, videos offer fans a way to connect visually and emotionally with your music. Platforms like YouTube have transformed video content into a crucial element of any artist’s marketing plan, offering both exposure and revenue through advertisements and viewer engagement.
For many artists, videos are one of the most effective ways to create buzz and draw attention to a new release. Videos tend to perform better in terms of shares, comments, and overall engagement on social media platforms. This is why distributing your music videos through multiple platforms is more important than ever. The question then becomes: is there a limit to how many videos you can release and distribute?
No Limitations on Video Distribution with Deliver My Tune For artists who are serious about building a substantial catalog of visual content, the ability to upload and distribute unlimited videos is a massive advantage. While some distribution platforms impose strict caps on how much content an artist can upload without incurring additional fees, Deliver My Tune breaks free from such restrictions.
When you use Deliver My Tune, you have the freedom to distribute as many music videos as you want. This is particularly beneficial for artists who produce different types of videos around a single song or album. For example, you might release an official music video, followed by an acoustic performance, a behind-the-scenes video, or a fan-generated content montage. Having the ability to distribute an unlimited number of videos allows you to explore creative approaches to your content without fear of hitting a ceiling.
Maximizing Royalties and Revenue from Video Content Music videos aren’t just for building a fanbase—they are also a significant revenue stream for independent artists. Platforms like YouTube, which monetizes video content through advertisements, offer artists the opportunity to earn royalties with every view their videos receive. The key to maximizing your income from video content is ensuring that you can continuously release new videos, creating multiple revenue streams.
Each video distributed through Deliver My Tune has the potential to generate royalties. By allowing unlimited video uploads, the platform ensures that your revenue potential is never capped by distribution limits. Whether you release one video a year or one every month, you can rest assured that all of your video content contributes to your income. Plus, Deliver My Tune operates on a model where you keep 100% of your earnings. That means every dollar earned through views, ads, and platform royalties goes directly to you, maximizing your return on investment.
The Long-Term Value of Your Music Videos One of the most important aspects of music video distribution is ensuring that your videos have long-term visibility. When using some platforms, artists may find that their content is taken down or becomes unavailable after a certain period, especially if they don’t continue to pay for hosting or distribution services. This can be particularly frustrating for independent artists who rely on evergreen content—videos that continue to generate views and income long after their initial release.
Deliver My Tune removes this concern by ensuring that your videos remain live indefinitely. There are no time limits on how long your content will stay available on platforms like YouTube, Apple Music, or Spotify. This is a huge advantage for artists who want to build a catalog of content that can generate ongoing revenue over time. With no expiration date on your videos, your back catalog can continue to work for you as your fanbase grows, allowing new listeners to discover your older music and content.
Engaging Fans Through Regular Video Releases One of the most effective ways to build and maintain an engaged fanbase is through regular content releases. The more content you release, the more opportunities you create for fans to interact with your music and visuals. Videos are one of the best ways to achieve this because they give fans a more immersive experience than audio alone. With Deliver My Tune’s unlimited video distribution, you can consistently provide your audience with fresh, engaging content.
Artists who maintain an active presence by releasing regular music videos, vlogs, or behind-the-scenes footage are more likely to build strong connections with their audience. Fans appreciate being able to follow an artist’s journey and see more than just the final product. By utilizing unlimited video distribution, you can keep your content flowing without ever having to cut back due to platform restrictions. This not only enhances fan engagement but also keeps you relevant in an industry where visibility is everything.
For example, you could launch a mini-series of videos that delve into the making of your latest album, release footage from live performances, or even showcase fan tributes. The possibilities are endless when you’re not confined by distribution limits. With more videos, you create more touchpoints for engagement, increasing the likelihood of shares, comments, and subscriptions.
Leveraging Video Distribution for Career Growth For independent musicians, having control over video distribution can significantly impact career growth. Platforms like Deliver My Tune not only provide the flexibility to release as much content as you want, but they also give you access to major streaming services and social media platforms, increasing your potential reach.
Regular video releases can help you stay top of mind for your fans and build anticipation for upcoming projects. Furthermore, having an extensive catalog of videos gives you more content to promote on social media, increasing your chances of going viral or gaining new followers. Videos are inherently more shareable than static images or even songs alone, making them a valuable asset in your promotional toolkit.
For example, releasing a new video each week could increase your chances of being noticed by playlist curators, blog writers, or even potential collaborators. The more videos you have out there, the more people are likely to discover your work, which in turn helps grow your fanbase and your career.
Conclusion
For independent artists looking to grow their career and maximize earnings, Deliver My Tune provides a perfect solution for unlimited video distribution. Is there a limit to the number of videos I can distribute through Deliver My Tune? Absolutely not. By offering unlimited uploads and the ability to keep 100% of your royalties, Deliver My Tune empowers musicians to take full control of their content. Whether you’re focused on building fan engagement, generating long-term revenue, or simply releasing a steady stream of creative content, Deliver My Tune is the ideal partner for your music journey. The unlimited distribution feature ensures that nothing holds you back from realizing your full potential.

if i'm being brutally honest, i don't feel 22 years old. the feeling comes and goes.
now, i'm aware that nobody feels their age, especially not after exiting their teenager years – up until the age of like, 26, i'm pretty sure most of us in our early 20s don't start to really feel like teenagers once we hit the big 2-0, y'know?
i feel like an adult sometimes. i want to have my own income, but i also want to pursue higher education and get the degree of my dreams. i can essentially do whatever i want, but... i'm scared. i need someone to hold my hand. (pretty sure even 30 year old individuals still ask their parents for help with doctor's appointments. ain't no shame there. i need my mom, dammit.)
i want to go to concerts and conventions. i want to play silly games with my friends on twitch. i want to do a goofy clothing montage with my best friends in a mall. i want to go for a night drive and smoke weed out the window on the freeway. i want to sing along to michael jackson with my headphones in without caring about who sees me. i want to get shit-faced with friends in celebration of little victories.
... but when i put it like that, am i yearning for a childhood i never had, or am i yearning for freedom? for a burden-free existence? is that what being a teenager was supposed to be? i'm trying to pick up the pieces of my wasted youth, but time isn't slowing down for me. i have to carry the pieces of my younger self along for the ride and show her all of the things that we're capable of doing now.
i dunno. i think the first step to healing my inner child, that little yapper who loves to chat about her interests, is to plug in this stupid mic that i bought and ramble about this cyberpunk overhaul i'm doing. maybe that's the first step. practicing being myself in the mirror.

Songs of the isle pt. 30
The Wailing Beast: YOU ARE A USELESS DIRTY BASTARD.
*The Wailing Beast shows its skull and bites Apollo and Apollo wakes up back in the spot from before*
Apollo: That’s really getting old.
*Apollo stands back up and starts to jog again but with the Stone that brought him there in his hand then a montage of Apollo being killed over and over. The stone leading him in different directions till he wakes up in the same spot again no knowing how many times he has been reset*
Apollo: Focus I need to find a way out.
*Apollo starts to jog but the Wailing beast finds him faster than any other time before*
Apollo: So you are learning to huh?
*Apollo sprints through the wood while the wailing beast follows him he dodges slashes from the beast as he runs looking at the stone at every change he gets*
 Apollo: GLOOOOOW!!!
*Apollo transforms as he runs picking speed but the Wailing beast never slows down or gives Apollo any breathing room. Apollo runs between trees and rocks that catch the beast but never slowing it down till it tackles Apollo to the ground of the forest exactly where he woke up before every other time*
Apollo: I guess it is back to the drawing board fuck.
*As the wailing beast is about to bite Apollo again he sees that the stone is glowing in his hand under all the dark liquid*
Apollo: oh, that’s something.
*As the beast goes to bite Apollo he struggles enough to moved his head away from the incoming strike and it breaks the ground under them.
A little bit of the ground falls through showing another room the same as the one Apollo came from the creature goes to get him a second time he moves away from the beasts attack breaking the ground even further*
Apollo: Today really isn’t your day is it?
*Apollo manages to break free enough to crawl into the hole in the ground but as he is about to leave the liquid from the Beast tries its best to drag him back leaving him floating in the air*
Apollo: Now look how is being a poor fucking sport.
*The skull of the Beast slides its way through the hole with liquid holding it together*
The Wailing Beast: YOU WILL FAIL EVERYTHING YOU DO WONT FIX YOU.
Apollo: Yeah that shit is getting really old.
*Apollos claws grow out and he cuts himself lose falling as the Wailing beast retreats back into the hole as it repairs itself Apollo hits the ground with a thud.
He takes a few seconds before getting up and seeing a dirty barely dressed man with long blond hair and an equally long bread sitting in the corner mummering to himself without getting up Apollo looks over to the man*
 Apollo: Sorry for the intrusion.
The man: To- to many choices, how- how do I- I
Apollo: You have fun with that.
*Apollo stands up and looks to the stone and it glows in the same direction as last time he was in a room like this*
 Apollo: Yeah nice try.
*Apollo walks all over the room but the stone still glows at the same door*
Apollo: Well that is a problem wouldn’t you agree?
The man: The doors- TOO MANY DOORS
Apollo: I’m glad you understand but if I use the logic from the last hell hole I was in.
*Apollo goes right up to the door that the stone glowed at then starts digging at the ground in front of it*
*the Scene cuts to Vick and Leander getting back to the house with Papa waiting outside for them*
Leander: I am going to go for a patrol a Kappa attacked us but I think there could be other things out there.
Papa: Are you both ok?

Well, duh, of course! Agree. You know that part of the Twilight montage where Bella starts screaming? In Glee, That would be the section where Santana is about to take her lesbian dramatics to the maximum and blast songs like Wonderwall while she cries about how awful everything is, how she feels like she’s dying, except she doesn’t get to it, because ding ding ding, incoming text from Brittany asking to go get ice cream with her, all is well for the next few days until Brittany doesn’t smile at her again, and the cycle continues.
And yes, affectionately mocking Santana is perhaps my favorite thing to do, because babygirl literally counted her crushes smiles, she was down bad and I think that is the most accurate representation ever 😂😂😂
It feels like bullying but thankfully she's fictional and we love her, duh, so it's okay 😌 Feel free to affectionately mock Santana in my inbox any time lmao
Wonderwall would be so good, I'm loving that we're pulling out the classics for her. Consider: at her angstiest and when she's pissed about Bartie, she goes for her canon favourite song and sings an angry montage of You Oughta Know. She would have sounded so good it's actually upsetting she never got to cover it.
Love that it's a cycle, too, haha. Like she needs that smile or a text or something every day because she's a closeted insecure lesbian. I mean yeah that's tragic too but anyway it's more fun to affectionately make fun of her.
"And maybe you're gonna be the one that sav-- 😭😭 oh a text 🥰"

some alt/additional endings for the carmen sandiego finale
(none focus on ships because I liked how they kept it open and I don’t really have any preferences)
(also I label these as Versions A, B, C, but honestly they’re all just random collections of scenes I’d have loved to see and can be mixed and matched)
Version A
[montage of ACME taking down VILE, except Team Red is also there. Coach Brunt and Carmen fight and/or have a stare-down as Coach is dragged away for closure.]
[We get the show’s scene of the remaining VILE operatives as they had it, Tigris in jail, the jeantonio taco cart, etc.]
Next scene shows Team Red visiting Player in person and they’re all at a diner having a nice meal. Perhaps off screen we hear Player’s parents:
Parent 1: Where are you going?
Player: Just grabbing dinner with my friends!
Parent 1: Friends?
Player: Yeah... from...school?
[Zach and Ivy wave]
Parent 1: (relieved their son can socialize with others) Have fun!
Cut to:
The show’s scene of Shadow-san approaching his brother.
Cut to:
Argentina. Carmen approaches her mom’s door. She raises her hand to knock, hesitates. She looks behind her, and Zach and Ivy give her encouraging gestures (thumbs up, silly smiles, etc).
Carmen knocks, the door opens. END OF SHOW.
Version B
Team Red leads the charge on the VILE, capturing the major faculty with ACME backup.
Meanwhile, we see Gray discharged from the hospital and he walks down the street.
Cut to: Gray enters a fancy-looking opera house in a faraway city. We hear him introduce himself as an electrical engineer and ask if there are any jobs. An employee tells him “we’ll see what we can do” and as the two of them walk through the lobby, some shiny artifact gleams in the side of the frame. Gray smiles. Is he planning to do honest work? Steal something? Could go either way!
Cut to: The factory. Zach and Ivy are decorating their respective rooms upstairs, indicating that they’re planning to stay for a longer period of time. Downstairs in the living room, Shadow-san, Carmen, Chase, and Julia are sitting around the table, and Carmen says she’d like to tell them the whole story.
Later: Shadow-san give the folder with the info about Carmen’s mother. In the next scene, we see her writing a letter.
Cut to: Argentina - her mother (we still don’t see her face) receives Carmen’s message.
Cut to: Another day. In their lived-in looking home, Carmen, Zack, and Ivy crowd around a laptop with Skype/similar program open.  (Shadow-san and Player could be here too, though I feel like they might give Carmen space on this one)
Zack: You nervous?
Ivy: Do you want us to go?
[On the screen, we see an incoming call from Carmen’s mother.]
Carmen: No, stay. I want my mom to meet my whole family.
End credits.
Potential additional epilogue: We see one of the at-large villains (Neal, maybe?) reaching for an object in a crowded place. They think they’ve been discreet. Then a blow comes out of nowhere and another hand snatches the object.
We pan up and see Xifeng (or Lupe, or Sonia, or anyone shown in that “you could be Carmen Sandiego montage) smile.
Version C
Carmen leaves a note for Zack and Ivy, though it says something more along the lines of “taking a personal trip, see you next week!”
We see the scene the show has of Carmen approaching her mother’s house.
Cut to: Julia back at the university, finishing up a lecture. She walks out of the hall and meets Chase, and the two of them walk together to a cafe where Carmen, Zach, and Ivy are waiting (and maybe Player is there virtually; Zach pulls him up on facetime and props the phone on the table). They all sit down for a meal together where Carmen promises to give them some answers.
Potential intercut scene: Outside the window, we see Gray sitting on a bench. Carmen excuses herself from the meal and says she’ll be right back. We see her approach Gray and [they talk about whatever you think makes sense. Closure? Shipping? Friendship?]
They wave to each other and Carmen waves, walking back to rejoin her friends at the cafe.
-OR-
Julia exits her lecture, meets Chase, and they head to a cafe to meet Carmen. Carmen starts telling them more about herself, but halfway through her phone starts ringing. It’s Player, telling her she’d better get going if she doesn’t want to be late.
Cut to: Zack and Ivy are racing professionally, and Carmen, Shadow-san, and (virtual?) Player cheer them on from the stands. Zack and Ivy win, of course, and all of Team Red poses to take a photo together, which is the last image of the show, thus emphasizing the importance of found family! (feel free to throw in Gray, Jules, Chase, Carmen’s mom, or whoever else to this scene hehe)
(Bonus scene: Carmen wanders off to get the gang some food and approaches JeanTonio’s taco truck. They serve her and make eye contact, then Carmen just smiles and waves to them and goes to rejoin her friends, happy they’re happy and no longer doing crime).
(Bonus scene 2: after the race, we cut to a few credits, then return to a mid-credit scene. We see Chief telling her agents they’ve spotted a rogue VILE operative in the wild. Chief pulls out her phone. Scene cuts to Carmen (maybe at her mom’s house, but with her friends near by), saying, “we’re on it!”)
End of show!

Inmate Intimacy pt. 2 (Nessian)
Part 1 | Part 3 | Masterlist
Tumblr media
______________________________________________________________
~Cassian~
The morning after practically being jumped by his favorite nurse, Cassian smirked like a cat as he strolled into her office, beyond ready for a repeat. He felt happier than he had in weeks, their moment in that cell playing on repeat in his head.
“Good morning,” she said casually, motioning for him to sit on the table. “Raise your sleeve, please.”
She sounded... different. Cold. And she wasn’t looking in his eyes.
“What?” His eyebrows couldn’t leave his hairline.
“Problems hearing this morning? Raise your sleeve, please,” she repeated.
“What’s going on?” Was she seriously... “You’re trying to act like yesterday never happened, aren’t you?”
“I think we should keep our relationship professional,” she murmured, looking up at the ceiling.
He smirked. Like hell they would. “Alright, then. Fine. We’ll keep our relationship completely professional. That in mind, I was wondering. Did you become a nurse so you could wear sweatpants all the time?”
Nesta raised an eyebrow. “No, the scrubs are just a plus.”
“And comfortable, too, I bet.”
Her eyes narrowed suspiciously.
“I mean, I remember how nice they were when my hands were down the back of them-”
She slapped a hand over his mouth and gasped, eyes going wide. “Cassian!” she whisper-shouted.
He kissed one of her fingers, then sucked on it a little, and she made a strangled-sounding noise that made him laugh.
“Cassian-”
“Listen. I get it. I’ll try to keep my hands to myself. Maybe. If I have to only dream about you naked for a while, that’s fine.”
“Cassian-” she tried again.
“But, I should warn you,” he murmured, his voice dropping a few octaves as he slid off the table. He leaned down and nuzzled her neck, whispering by her ear, “The moment I’m out of this hellhole, I’ll be stopping by to ask for a live show.” He softly bit her earlobe, and she jumped in surprise.
He chuckled as he avoided her incoming palm.
She’s do damn cute when she’s angry.
But there was something missing.
“Tell me your name,” he said, still ducking her attacks.
It was insane to him that he’d had his tongue down her throat but still called her Nurse.
She finally stopped trying to assault him and smiled. “Nesta. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have an appointment. One of our poor inmates is complaining of excruciating pain from a broken knee.”
He gave her a dramatic frown. “How sad. I’ll see you tomorrow, Nurse Nesta,” he said happily, loving the way her name rolled off his tongue.
~Nesta~
Four days after the incident which shall never be spoken about again, Nesta was sitting at her desk, rolling an apple back and forth and demanding her mind to think about something other than Inmate #9356.
As usual, the stupid organ didn’t listen.
And as usual, it was showing her a montage of Cassian-related moments. His smile, the playful glint in his eyes every time he teased her, the way his mouth had felt against hers.
She chucked the apple in the trash and rolled her shoulders out. She hadn’t been this torn up over a guy in... well, ever.
She had to do something to get herself under control. Now.
As if her thoughts had manifested him, she suddenly heard a deep, “Good morning, Nurse Nesta.”
Turning around, she saw he was leaning against the door frame, somehow managing to make the light grey jumpsuit required of prisoners look like something out of a fashion magazine.
Without her permission, her eyes ran appreciatively over the sight before her, taking in his shoulders that seemed impossibly wide and she bit her lip to keep any stupid words she was tempted to say in there.
“If you keep looking at me like that, we’re going to have a problem with this whole me-keeping-my-hands-to-myself thing.”
Shit.
Her eyes snapped back up to his, only to notice he was giving her the same heated stare.
Oh, no. This was bad.
“Sit on the table and extend your arm, please,” she said, voice way too shaky for her liking.
A small smile on his face, he did as he was told. Nesta wrote the dosage down and came forward with the shot, avoiding his gaze the entire time.
When she was done and pressing a cotton ball to his tan skin, he murmured, “Look at me.”
“No.”
She could tell he was smiling. “Please.”
Her eyes acted on their own once again, and then she was staring into his golden gaze, her entire body coming alive under his stare.
He reached forward slowly, using a thumb to pull the lip she hadn’t realized she’d been biting free.
“Cassian.”
He shook his head, silently demanding her to not ruin the moment, and she cupped his cheek, loving how he instantly leaned into her touch.
No, you don’t! What’s happening! Stop this!
She ignored the rational, boring part of her mind completely as she leaned forward, brushing her lips against his. It was the lightest, most innocent kiss she’d ever had, but it still made her shiver.
He noticed.
Cassian’s eyes darkened, then he reached up, grabbed the front of her shirt, and pulled her back to him. Their mouth collided, and everything she’d told herself about staying away from him went out the barred window.
Especially when his teeth closed around her lower lip and tugged.
She made a small sound, then wound her arms around his neck, hands going to his hair and pulling it loose. Nesta noticed she was standing between his legs and pressed herself against him.
He made a low sound in the back of his throat, then pulled back. Before she could protest, he swung the chain holding his wrists together over her head, caging her in the circle of his arms.
And the strange thing?
Nesta didn’t even care.
Not about the chain, the fact he was incarcerated, or that they were in a small, dingy office doing something that would probably get her fired.
She only cared about this. About him.
His hands slid down her back, over her ass, to the back of her thighs, and before she knew what was happening, he’d scooped her up and put her on his lap. Then he leaned down, and she realized with a delighted thrill she was laying on top of him, legs straddling his waist.
Her hair was falling all over his face, but he didn’t seem to mind one bit. Hell, he didn’t seem to even notice. Even though he was under her, he took control of the kiss, mouth molding hers in the way he wanted.
And little miss control freak Nesta just let him.
His hips pressed up into hers, and she moaned into his mouth, making him smile.
It dropped away when she dragged herself forward, right across the now very-present bulge in his pants.
She was about to do it again when a knock sounded on the other side of the door. “Nesta? Everything alright? Your ten o’clock is here,” her assistant called out.
“Yes! Everything’s fine!” she yelled back, scrambling off the table and the inmate laying on it. Except she’d forgotten about the chain around her, which resulted in her sliding down his body, making both of them groan.
Once she was away, she straightened her scrubs and hissed, “Get out! Move!”
“I can’t,” he hissed back, still laying down, a wide hand covering his face.
“Oh, you most definitely can. Get up!”
He shot her a look. “Nesta, if I get up right now, everyone in this place is going to know what’s been going on.”
A blush crept over her cheeks. “Oh.”
He pressed his eyes closed, mumbling something she couldn’t hear. After a few minutes of that pained-looking expression, he finally sat up and slid off the table.
Hand on the door, he turned around and said, “Bet you regret not just giving me that insulin pack now.”
That’s the understatement of the fucking century.
~Cassian~
You know in movies, when there’s a bomb in the White House, and someone has three seconds to figure out how to turn it off and save the world? The red wire, blue wire debate?
That’s how Cassian felt.
Like he was literally three seconds from exploding, and Nesta was the only person in the world who knew which fucking wire to cut.
So as he marched into her office, there was only one thing on his mind.
I mean, when you think about it, it was actually considerate of him to be this desperate for her. He was saving the world, and all.
But it had gotten to the point where even thinking about that damned woman caused him to get an instant response in his very beautiful prison uniform.
Honestly, Cassian didn’t even care if he got his insulin shot today.
He just wanted to get this chain off of him, get Nesta under him, and make it a morning neither of them would forget.
He could die of diabetic ketoacidosis a happy man afterward.
“Good morning,” the star of his nightly dreams said smoothly, giving him a small smile that woke up every part of him. “Sit on the table, please.”
He didn’t listen.
She didn’t noticed he was right behind her until he leaned down, brushed his lips over her ear, and said, “No.”
Nesta jumped about a mile high, and he chuckled. Then she twirled around and looked at him with bright, wide eyes. “What are you doing?”
He just leaned forward and kissed her, his favorite way of shutting her up. For a blissful moment, she just stood there and let him.
Then she pulled back, and he felt the right side of his face start to sting like crazy.
She’d slapped him! Right in the face!
Hell if he didn’t marry this woman.
He was about to step back and apologize, but he never got the chance because Nesta gave an adorable little growl, grabbed his face, and pulled him back down to kiss him again.
Did his face hurt like hell? Yes.
Was it worth it to know she was just as affected by this? Also yes.
He kissed her like he’d been dying to all morning, loving the little sounds that escaped her every now and then.
All too soon, she pulled away. Cassian braced himself for another slap, but it never came.
What did come, however, shocked the hell out of him.
A cold, metal handcuff closed over his wrist. Which was strange, considering there already was one on each of his wrists.
He looked down and honestly couldn’t help the strangled laugh that escaped him as he saw that Nesta, the woman he was fucking crazy about, had handcuffed him to the metal handle of a drawer.
She jumped away, safely well out of arms reach, and said, “Gah! This has to stop. This is my job we’re talking about! I can’t just go around kissing inmates!”
Cassian was still laughing about her handcuffing him. “You really think this-” he shook his wrist, “is going to keep me away from you?”
Crossing her arms over her chest, she replied cooly, “It seems to be serving its purpose just fine.”
He rolled his eyes, then reached and grabbed the shot he was supposed to be getting right now. Her eyes went wide, probably thinking he was about to stab himself or something, but he ignored them as he went to work on his cuff.
A moment later, it swung open and off his wrist, colliding with the drawer.
Her mouth dropped open, making him laugh yet again. “You frequently like to remind me I’m a criminal, yet you thought I couldn’t pick a cuff? Baby, that’s so adorable.”
Cassian strolled over to her, still chuckling at the look on her face.
He stopped just in front of her, leaning over to kiss her forehead. “It’s okay. I’ll be good.”
“Promise?” She didn’t sound very believing.
“I’ll let you spank me if I misbehave.”
Her mouth popped open again, perfect lips forming a little O, and he looked at the ceiling to keep himself from breaking his promise already.
“Now give me this stupid shot so I can get out of here and take a cold shower.”
Nesta shook her head and smiled, and he thought about how much he loved it when she did. It made her look younger, happier. As soon as her getting fired wasn’t hanging over their heads, he’d find a way to keep her like that.
She sighed again when she looked at the mangled needle. “Asshole.”
“I love it when you talk dirty,” he told her, smiling at the blush across her face.
It’d be hard as hell to keep himself in check with her blushing like that, but he had to. She was right, after all. He didn’t want to cost her her job just because he was acting like a horny little teenager.
It was about time he called Rhys and got the hell out of this place.

Chapter 8: We Capture a Flag 08/04/21
Feel free to join in with our read along of The Lightning Thief - here's all the info
This montage of Percy unsuccessfully trying out every sport at camp is reminding me of that scene in Grease where Danny tries to make varsity
"I knew the senior campers and counsellors were watching me, trying to decide who my dad was, but they weren't having an easy time of it." MY DUDES. PLEASE ACTIVATE UR ONE BRAINCELL. THERE HAS BEEN SO MUCH EVIDENCE HOW HAVE U NOT CRACKED THIS YET??
(V mild spoilers incoming for the end of this chapter but I’m assuming you’ve all read this chapter so imma go ahead)
I wonder if any of the other demigods can get an energy boost the same way Percy does with water?
Like if an apollo kid is being beaten in a fight can they take a 5 minute break to perform an intense musical number and then suddenly they'll be so much better? Or could a child of Zeus stick their finger in the plug socket and get a sudden burst of energy? Just wondering
Ngl it’s gotta be kind embarrassing for Luke to be beaten by a 12 year old.... rip to Luke’s rep I guess
Hmmm I love it when they tie in historical events to the Greek gods but idk this ‘the nazis were children of Hades’ feels a bit off to me, especially with America’s intense patriotism
Like obviously the Nazis WERE villains but equally this narrative kinda portrays the allies as heroes which like... yes obviously fighting nazis is good but the allies did a lot of messed up things in WWII as well which often gets brushed under the carpet
Idk I just don’t really like applying such a heroes vs villains narrative to such recent history and think we could do with teaching it to kids in a more nuanced way
Excuse me houdINI?? Harry Houdini was a demigod?? Who do you think his godly parent was?? I’m thinking maybe Hecate? Or Hermes?
When I read this book as a kid I’d never played capture the flag and it honestly sounded like the coolest game ever
Okay I gotta be honest the Ares and Aphrodite kids are done very dirty in this book
“Hephaestus’s kids weren’t pretty” ummmm Charles Beckendorf and Leo Valdez would like to disagree
Percy: my shield was the size of an NBA scoreboard
Me: .... is NBA the basketball one? You know what let’s just say it was a big shield and move on
“You corpse breath worm” is going to be my new go to insult
Oooh that’s very cool that the banners change to the cabin of whoever managed to steal the flag! Very nice touch!
Annabeth really said ‘sorry Percy, I care more about winning than your safety’ and honestly I kinda get it
Out of all of the choosing ceremony situations in fiction, this one is definitely the most aesthetically pleasing
Yes the sorting hat is cool, but does it appear like a glowing hologram above your head whilst everyone looks on in awe?
No? Weak.
We're raising money for Save the Children so please head to our justgiving page if you would like to donate- any contribution is appreciated including spreading the word

I wonder whether you can say the Alwyns are well to do based on their house. It's possible they bought their home ages ago with a 20 plus year montage before the London housing market exploded. They are not poor but not as well off as you say. Didn't Joe did take out student loans for his drama school?
We know they didn’t tho lol because they lived somewhere else when the older boys were little. They bought that house. Mortgaged or not it’s a very fucking expensive property and we also know roughly what the parents’ income is (and we know where she rents her offices) and they’re VERY far from poor. Like they’re not 1% but between the family history/lineage/therefore inheritance, their jobs, and yes the fact that they’ve got a LARGE house in what has ALWAYS been an extremely expensive area (it’s North fucking London dudes like it’s not an area that recently became gentrified) we can safely say they’re upper middle class.
And ya they made him take loans for the second degree but tbf the UK loan program is like basically interest free and shit and most people do it. Like it’s very standard.

SPRING ANIME 2021: What I Watched!
Hello my fellow Weebs! I hope everyone has been well, and has enjoyed this stacked season of Anime, I think it’s been one of the best in awhile. I had great reception to the last one of these I did so I’m definitely going to do these seasonally I hope you guys enjoy this one too. I know the Summer season just started but if you need to catch up on some shows from last season then this is for you!. Also heads up since Tokyo Revengers and To Your Eternity are still airing they won’t be included in this list but i will gush about how great they are once they’ve finished, until then go watch those and enjoy this list!. Editing note decided to do another random roundup for the shows I didn’t have a lot to say about but wanted to still include some thoughts!.
1. Vivy: Flourite Eye’s Song
Tumblr media
Starting with one of the most underrated shows this season Vivy. Beautifully animated by Wit Studio who’s done Anime such as Attack on Titan and from the creator of well known Isekai series Re Zero it’s surprising this fell under the radar. This one definitely wins for some of the best animation this season and some of the most badass, seamless fight scenes. The story isn’t anything super unique but it‘s different enough to keep your interest, and I haven’t seen many anime take on the theme of saving the human race from robots. Its one of those Anime you definitely have to pay attention to, there’s a lot of time travel and information to take in that you’ll miss what’s going on if your not paying attention. But if your into Sci-Fi Anime with action, robots, time travel and some singing then it’s definitely worth a watch.
Now for the spoiler free story synopsis, Vivy who is also known as Diva,is a singing robot at an amusement park who’s sole purpose is making people happy with her singing. However when she is approached by a cube shaped robot name Matsumoto with a mission to save the world from the incoming invasion of robots destroying the human race. Without much explanation or thought Vivy as the first autonomous robot must fight and travel through time to prevent the destruction of human kind one hundred years in the future. Traveling to the future and the past Vivy must prevent certain events from happening to stop the chain effect of humanities downfall with success and failure, while continuing to bring peace through her voice.
2. Odd Taxi 🚕
Tumblr media
One of the other most underrated shows on this list is one about a Walrus taxi driver, Odd Taxi. To be honest I probably would have passed by this show if I didn’t hear about it from Anime Youtuber Mother’s Basement, so shoutout to him. Don’t let the fact the the entire cast are animals, it’s one of the best parts of the show, and fits well with the title. I enjoyed this one way more than I originally thought I would, and similar to shows like Durarara there’s a large group of characters who are all connected and a deeper plot that connects them. It keeps you interested as the plot unveils itself and it’s definitely worth the ride.
Odd Taxi definitely lives up to its name, its an odd but enjoyable show, it follows the main characters Odokawa, the taxi driving Walrus and the unique passengers he encounters. He gets customers like an attention seeking hippo obsessed with social media to straight up criminals who try to blackmail him. He gets roped into dangerous and weird situations that are all connected in different ways. Being a taxi driver is anything but an easy ride for Odokawa, and you definitely should definitely find out why on this mystery anime full of twists and turns.
3. Zombie land Saga Revenge 🧟‍♀️
Tumblr media
The second season of the only idol show i will watch, Zombieland Saga… Revenge. I enjoyed the first season but for some reason I liked this one a little bit more than the first, and if you liked this one there’s more Zombie idol greatness. There’s still bad CGI singing montages but it doesn’t totally deter me from the show, although i wish there were more metal songs those were my favorite!. I think what I appreciated about his season is that they went more in depth on the backstories of each member of Franchouchou and you rooted for them to succeed, also my favorite character the crazy Kotaro is back!. So if you enjoyed the first season give this a watch and If you haven’t watched either stop reading this and go watch both.
Spoiler Alert to anyone who hasn’t watch the second season or any Zombieland Saga at all! Here’s a short synopsis of season two. Like i’ve said season two is more of the same thing, they’re still trying to become famous idols in Saga and pay off their debt, but this time it’s all about revenge and having a second chance at their failures. They play the venues that only had a few people show up and do it even bigger and better than before while trying to bring hope and prosperity to the dying saga, and of course still keeping their secret of being zombies.
4. Fruits Basket: The Final Season
Tumblr media
I want to say first that im so damn happy that there’s finally a proper conclusion to fruits basket with an actual ending that did the story justice. I’m so happy for the non manga readers who only watched the original or who have never watched the original to experience all of it. So in case it wasn’t obvious i absolutely loved every bit of this remake as a whole and this last season. it’s every bit as heartwarming and sweet as it was portrayed in the manga and it was nice to revisit scenes that i has forgotten about and to see them animated in color. If you haven’t finished or have not watched any Fruits Basket, it’s one of the best Shoujo’s ever written and every character is so full of life and detailed you can’t help but adore them all. From the main to the side charcters every one gets their time and their stories wrapped up and no story part is left hanging. This remake was the redemption this series deserved and it was so well made from start to finish no need for synopsis on this one, if you want to see an Anime adaptation done the right way and make your life better watch Fruits Basket.
RANDOM ROUNDUP
Tumblr media
1. Those Snow White Notes(Mashiro No Oto)
This is one i enjoyed more at the beginning of it, but as it progressed i started to get kind of bored, and just didn’t really care about the characters or story. I don’t watch many music anime so this probably wasn’t the show for me, it did have really nice animation though!.
2. The World Ends With You
I had lower expectations for this one since video game adpatations are usually not great but i really liked the animation and i’m a big Kingdom Hearts fan. Despite being in the Kingdom Hearts franchise this met my low expectations, and was just a mediocre show, with lots of repetitive fights and boss battles and a lack lister story. Probably will check out the game still at some point.
3. 86
I really wished i liked this one more, its not a bad series, there’s lots of heartfelt moments and you do feel for the charcters but i found myself losing interest in the monotonous mech battles and long dialogues. Also i just didn’t connect to the characters and couldn’t keeo track of them.I do like mech shows but this one just didn’t do it for me i didn’t even remember the ending at first, this isnt one im going to remember.
4. Mars Red
Initially i was drawn to the art style and the historical setting but i felt the same problem i did with 86,the characters just didn’t stick out to me. Neither did the story really it’s another one i wish i liked more but the story didn’t grab me as it went on. If you like vampire Anime this might be a good one for you, it does add something unique with having vamoire soldiers so for that it might be worth a watch.

Everything You Need To Know About Zombies, And 5 Sightings Of The Real-life Walking Dead We STILL Can’t Explain
At this point, I’m not sure anything would surprise me.
In fact, a zombie apocalypse would actually make sense at this point. But even if the grand finale of 2020 was the dead rising from their graves, it wouldn’t actually be the first time.
According to those that practice Haitian Voodoo, zombies exist. And according to scientists, zombies exist.
But the thing is, Hollywood has gotten our favourite flesh-eating, apocalypse-heralding monsters wrong. The folklore behind these monsters is actually rather different than men and women foaming at the mouth as they mummy-walk towards you.
The reanimated corpse didn’t take its first steps with the debut cinema screening of Night Of The Living Dead (1968).
It started with slaves.
Today we are going to cover everything you need to know about zombies from forgotten folklore of years gone by, to the rumours of the living dead among us in preparation from the incoming apocalypse...
Tumblr media
What Are Zombies?
It’s pretty simple: a zombie is someone who was dead and is now not-so-dead. According to an official definition they are corpses which have been brought back from the grave to haunt the living.
Yep - they’re just like ghosts. But instead of wafting gently they have to lump around this great hulking cadaver which is in the midst of decay.
Zombies can be traced back to Haitian Voodoo which claims that a dead body can be reanimated by magical rituals. This supernatural take on the walking dead, however, is at odds with more modern fictional beliefs which centre on science.
Parasites, diseases, and viruses (*looks into camera*) feature as the main causes of zombies taking over the world in Hollywood’s take on the beast. This new zombie first pulled itself out of the ground in 1968 with Night Of The Living Dead, but the term ‘zombies’ was only applied by fans after the release of the cult classic. They were originally known as ‘ghouls’ in the film, confirming the premise that zombies exist to haunt the living.
Following this on-screen debut, the horror genre was overrun by zombie films with Dawn Of The Dead and Thriller going down in history as some of the most iconic movies of all time. The genre waned towards the 90s, however, and was due a resurgence just before the millennium thanks to predominately East Asian video games.
28 Days Later and Shaun Of The Dead resurrected the genre at the turn of the century and shaped what zombies are now known most for: the zombie apocalypse.
Tumblr media
The terrifying claims of a civilised world being brought to its knees by walking corpses is now a pop culture staple, but more recently its been given a makeover and shopping montage as a part of its rom-com redo. Warm Bodies and iZombie are a novel take on the horror must-have and incorporate a human-zombie relationship that is an emblem for the sexual liberation of the era.
The severed relationship between supernatural zombies and the sci-fi alternative doesn’t just take place on Netflix. There is evidence that both could exist.
Zombies In Haitian Voodoo
In 1819, poet Robert Southey was the first to use the term ‘zombie’ in his history of Brazil. This heralded the emergence of zombies in Haitian Voodoo which chimed with a concept even more terrifying than the prospect of a zombie apocalypse:
Slavery.
According to Haitian Voodoo, bokors - or witches - would use necromancy to revive a dead person. This zombie would then be under their control as a personal slave and would have no personal will.
Bokors were also known to capture ‘zombie astrals’ - part of the human soul - in a bottle which would provide the owner with extra luck or healing properties, for example.
These beliefs were rooted in Voodoo traditions brought to Haiti by enslaved Africans: they believed Baron Samedi would take them to an African heaven after they died. Those that offended the Ioa (a Voodoo god) would be a slave forever - AKA a zombie. This fear of eternal slavery was reinforced by slave drivers who were often also voodoo priests; to prevent slave suicides, they would threaten zombification.
It was this widespread belief in zombies as slaves that would spread beyond Haiti’s borders during the US’ occupation of the country in the early 20th century. A number of case studies reporting zombies came to the US’ attention, such as in the William Seabrook’s The Magic Island (1929): he cited an article in Haiti’s criminal code which recognised zombies’ existence, (it essentially said even if you murder someone and you make them come back as a zombie, it is still murder).
It was shortly after US forces entered Haiti that one of the most famous cases of an alleged zombie emerged. We will get to Felicia Felix-Mentor’s story later in this article.
Zombies In Science
Zombies are deeply rooted in some of humanity’s darkest chapters in history - but they also have a place in our natural history, too.
Technically, zombies do exist. Sure, if you made the claim for human zombification via Voodoo priest scientists would counter with claims that these ‘zombies’ are schizophrenic, in a catatonic state, or are suffering from a mental illness that mirrors how we believe they would act. But if you made a similar claim for other animals - namely insects - they’d believe you.
In fact, there are numerous known cases of such instances.
Tumblr media
Whilst there are no known insects that practice Haitian Voodoo, these cases follow the basic plotline of zombie cult classics - parasites infect them and alter their behaviour or use them to their advantage. The parasites effectively make slaves out of those they target, mirroring what we saw in Haiti.
Take zombie carpenter ants, for example:
A fungus enters their bloodstream, hijacks their mind and grows around their muscles. Within one short week the ant is compelled to leave its colony and seek higher ground which has the right temperature and humidity for the fungus to grow in. It then forces the ant to bite down into a leaf, grows a stalk through the ant's head, and cuts off the ant’s muscle control.
The ant’s corpse still moves its legs vigorously as the bulbous capsule of fungi spores grows through what’s left of its body to infect the ant colony below.
There are many more examples just like this with most parasites having their own unique - and uncomfortably brutal - method of killing off wildlife.
Scientists are unable to refute claims that a parasite might mutate and have a similar effect on humans one day, reducing us all to the zombie hordes seen in the movies.
We just have to wait and see.
Cases Of Actual, Real-life, Not-so-living-n-breathing Zombies
Although scientists don’t support claims that Haitian voodoo can in fact raise the dead and create personal slaves, various sightings and reports suggest that human zombies do exist.
Question is - do you believe them?
#1 - Felicia Felix-Mentor
In 1936, the owner of a farm in a small village in Haiti woke up to quite a shock.
A naked woman staggered towards them with her raspy voice mumbling and slurring that this farm belonged to her farmer. But the most terrifying thing about this strange woman that stumbled her way through the village was that she looked rather familiar.
In fact, they were pretty sure that this was a woman who had died and had been buried many years before.
19 years before.
Zora Neale Hurston - an anthropologist - investigated this alleged case of zombification and met Felicia Felix-Mentor at a hospital. The doctors were convinced she was a zombie and her husband confirmed this was his wife.
Even Hurston admitted that she believed what they were telling her:
“I know that I saw the broken remnant, relic, or refuse of Felicia Felix-Mentor in a hospital yard.”
#2 - Clairvius Narcisse
30 odd years after Felix-Mentor first wandered up to her father’s old farm, a 40 year old man admitted himself into hospital in Deschapelles, Haiti. Doctors, however, were unable to work out why he had a fever, was clearly fatigued, and was spitting up blood. He died 3 days later.
20 years after he died, a man claiming to be Narcisse approached Angelina Narcisse, his sister.
He told her and other villagers private, personal information in an attempt to convince them that he was in fact Clairvius and had been turned into a zombie for use on a sugar plantation. He had been paralysed for the duration of his burial and then dug up to be put to work as a slave.
He described in detail the process of his alleged zombification, claiming she was given a paste made from hallucinogenic chemicals which scientists would later use to refute most claims of zombies as simply a drugged state. When the bokor died and he was no longer fed the concoction, he regained his sanity and thus his free will, and returned to his family.
Much like Felix-Mentor’s story, Narcisse is actually widely believed to have been a zombie. His death was documented by 2 American doctors unlikely to follow Haitian Voodoo folklore, and even the man who investigated his claims - Lamarque Douyon - believed to some extent zombies could be real despite dismissing supernatural claims.
He brought a sample of the powders or paste used by the bokor back to the US to investigate whether ‘zombies’ were actually people who were drugged and then revived.

#3 - Woman from Port-au-Prince
Only known as FI to The Lancet, the journal investigating cases in southern Haiti in the late 90s, she was discovered 3 years after her death wandering near the village she once called home by a friend.
FI was mute and unable to feed herself but she was still recognised by her family, her fellow villagers, and the local priest by a distinct facial mark and other features.
The local courts opened her tomb to investigate the fact that she had apparently risen from the dead and found it full of stones. Her husband was accused of zombifying her after he caught her having an affair.
Despite local claims of supernatural goings-on, she was later admitted to a psychiatric hospital in Port-au-Prince.
#4 - Son of a secret policeman
WD (mentioned in the same study by The Lancet) was 18 years old when he became ill. He developed a fever, his body swelled up, and his eyes went yellow. They thought he was dying or at least already dead.
His father asked his brother to get advice from a bokor but WD died 3 days later. 19 months after he was buried, he reappeared at a cock fight and recognised his father before accusing his uncle of zombifying him.
#5 - Unknown young woman
MM (also mentioned in the same study by The Lancet) was joining her friends in prayer for a local who had been zombified when she fell under a similar affliction. The 18 year old became ill with diarrhoea and fever, her body swelled, and she died.
Her family immediately suspected a sorcerer had had their way with their daughter.
13 years later and MM reappeared at the town markets, claiming not only had she been a zombie in a village 100 miles away, she had had a child with another zombie.
When her bokor died, his son released MM from their control and she travelled home.

What do you think?
Are zombies real? Or are they merely a fictional beast haunted by the forgotten history of slavery?
