Molly Phillips- Used to be Young (So Weird)
This song is just too perfect for Molly. I really wish we could have delved more into her tumultuous teenage years and that Disney hadn’t scrapped alcoholism episode Chrysalis. Such a deep character with a complex background and they just don’t make tv moms like this anymore.

Rooftop follow up (original "Twin" ending)
I was thinking more about original ending, but the same question applies to  lesser degree with episode as aired:  What does Molly know about what happened on the roof?  What about the rest of Fi's gang?
Fi, of course, knows more than Rachel or Jack. She's the only one that saw the Trinity or talked to Rick.  But Rachel and Jack know about the locked door (trap nature, especially Rachel, as she knew about the messages) and about Fi hanging on the ledge and being lifted up by something.
So, what do they tell others?  Previously, Fi would have been likely to tell everyone at least part of it (she's been known to omit instances of physical danger, but talking to her father is too big not to mention).  But her mom has decided to end the tour, and, of course, now she knows that Mom knows more about supernatural stuff and pretends not to. So would she be inclined simply to not tell Molly, in order to increase the likelihood of going back on the road again.  And, per original ending, to fulfill her destiny to stop those evil forces?  I guess the issue is if (for a time), she would become more closed off and keep more (supernatural-oriented) secrets from her mom to pursue that cause.  A distance growing before closing later in season 3?  But if she's not telling mom, she might not want to put it on her website, which Molly could easily read.  Though she could still tell Clu, Ryan, Candy, etc. in their group chats, I guess.  Does she tell Jack and Rachel about rick, even?
Jack has  history of keeping things from Molly if he thinks they'll distress her, so it would be on-brand for him not to tell her about Fi almost dying.  It's also a pattern of his to deny, deny, deny, so he might just say the wind blew door, she fell, she managed to climb up, no matter how little sense it made.  On the other hand, he also belittles her beliefs - I don't think he'd go so far in lashing out to say she got dad's spirit "killed" by chasing her goals - even besides the cruelty being too far for him, it would only support the idea her version of events is real, which he doesn't like to do.  I'm not sure what it would take to bring Jack around to supporting Fi's goals with regards to the supernatural, instead of just rescuing her she gets in trouble acting on them.  Do you think this is it or it times out better later on?
Rachel's the adult in the mix. The one I can't predict a reaction for.  We just don't know her as much.  But adults are generally less likely to keep these sort of secrets from parents.  And we haven't seen her support Fi's interest in the past like Melinda did. And when did do so here, Fi almost died.  I think the thing most likely to prevent her from taking action to make sure Fi never gets in this kind of danger again is if she believes Rick says this is what Fi was meant to do and that she'll somehow be okay.  Or, I guess, if she goes into denial and says stress got to her, it was an accident, etc.

Following my heart
On Givin Gifts I signed up for an exchange called "Favorite Character" and the concept is to receive something associated with your favorite character...pretty self explanatory LOL. Could be from anywhere, any genre, any media, etc. The registry portion had you share one and a back up. I debated for awhile and ended up putting Bingo (from Bluey) and Kermit The Frog. I said they were basically tied for number one, though technically Bingo was first. However in my heart I knew that wasn't right. And inspired by someone on Reddit mentioning/commenting their favorite character is from a somewhat obscure musicals and unsure if should put as their answer and being encouraged to, because you never know! As I said that inspired me to change my information. Kermit stayed as my backup and Molly Phillips from So Weird became my number one! I am 99% sure I am gonna get Kermie stuff and that's awesome, because I guarantee the person who got me was like "WTF is So Weird?! And who is Molly?!" But I had to follow my heart.
The person I received their favorite character was Princess Tiana from The Princess And The Frog.

John Whitehouse at MMFA:
MAGA figures are suddenly afraid that Trump will lose and are looking for someone to blame. On July 30, Project 2025 Director Paul Dans suddenly stepped down, even after promoting his work on War Room earlier in the day. The Trump campaign, in a memo signed by senior advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles, celebrated, even claiming they would welcome Project 2025’s demise.
But outside of the right-wing bubble, the PR move seems to have failed in its attempt to distance Trump from Project 2025. As New York Times reporter Jonathan Swan noted, the Trump campaign reportedly has no transition plan — even compared to 2016 — and will need to rely on Project 2025 for staffing should he prevail in the election this fall. (This is also a reason why Project 2025 partner positions matter as much as what is in the official Project 2025 book: These are the people who would be in a position of power for staffing the federal government, especially if Trump follows through on threats to lay off thousands of federal civil servants.) Other journalists and analysts reported similarly.
Project 2025 is the policy platform and staffing database organized by the Heritage Foundation for the next Republican presidential administration. The extreme policies have proved to be very unpopular with the American people, and this unpopularity seemingly led the Trump campaign to force Dans to resign. The situation was already a tinderbox since Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democrats' likely presidential nominee, replacing President Joe Biden, since Trump’s campaign was reportedly designed to face Biden instead of Harris; switching MAGA’s messaging on a dime was going to be no easy task.  Before Harris took the reins, Trump had complained about Project 2025, even as Project 2025 contributors were invited to speak at the Republican National Convention, a key Project 2025 figure was appointed to the RNC’s platform committee, and Trump himself named the elected official perhaps most closely tied to Project 2025 as his new vice presidential nominee. Inside the MAGA bubble, recriminations and blame are growing as Trump’s electoral position apparently grows weaker.
MAGA influencers are in infighting mode already.

Thoughts on So Weird's 25th Anniversary
It's hard to believe So Weird premiered 25 years ago. It feels like we JUST celebrated the 20th anniversary, but then again the pandemic has completely distorted my sense of time.
Maybe it's because I'm in my 30s now or maybe it's because I was fortunate enough to meet the wonderful actress who brought her to life, but I have discovered that I am in my Molly Phillips era and Molly has overthrown Jack as my fav.
I truly have had a different favorite character for different stages of my life and I love how as I grow older, I continue to love this show for different reasons.
Now as the show is 25, I've been doing a lot of thinking about the lost episode Chrysalis and the character Molly Phillips and the content that is on Disney Plus now and the content we were denied. It was such a missed opportunity.
At the time that So Weird was airing, I was 6-8 years old and my dad was struggling with a disease. I remember asking my mom what it was that my dad had that made him have to sleep on the couch or stay in the hospital and her just repeating "He has a disease!" until I stopped. It wasn't until I was adult that I learned he struggled with alcoholism.
At 6-8 years old, all I knew about diseases were that they could be caused by smoking and that they can kill you so I assumed it was related to his cigarette smoking and feared he was going to die. I also knew that he had stopped smoking for 4 years, around the time he and my mom got married. My sister and I are exactly 4 years and 6 days apart. At 6-8 years old I knew basic math and the conclusion that I came to was that having a second kid (me) must have bad so stressful it led him to smoking. I fully believed for my whole childhood that my mere existence was killing my dad by driving him to smoke.
That is some heavy shit to carry as a 7 year old and a whole lotta shit to unpack in therapy as an adult.
And it was all because everyone thought it was in my best interest not to explain things like alcoholism in a way that I could understand because they thought children shouldn't know about such things.
As a latchkey kid, I was raised by television as much as I was raised by my parents and if the execs at Disney would have allowed So Weird to do that issues show they were so afraid of, it could have been lifechanging. Being able to see my favorite characters discuss alcoholism and provide some context that shows and explains what it is in a way a kid could understand would have been so valuable.
But Disney was too afraid to do an issues show.
Earlier this year, I watched the new Goosebumps series on Disney+ and was surprised to see kids openly making fun of one of the moms for being a wino. I'm glad that Disney is no longer afraid to show real life situations in that alcohol is a thing that exists and kids (well, the ones who aren't extremely sheltered like I was) are aware of it. But as happy as I am to see Disney is evolving to include these elements and showing more kid-friendly horror, all I could think of was the missed opportunity they had with So Weird. They could have done so much good with Chrysalis.
One of my favorite things about So Weird as a kid was that I never felt like I was being talked down to.
As an adult, I absolutely love the depth to Molly that a past struggle with alcoholism brings. It indicates just how visceral losing Rick was, how much pain Molly was in that she needed to self-medicate it away and stop feeling feelings because they were too hard. It shows how strong she is as a person for getting her life together since then, being able to do a comeback tour and be the amazing mom we see her as. It humanizes her on such a real level. She's the best portrayal of a tv mom because she very much is a MOM-- she doesn't try to be best friends with her kids, but she makes sure they know they can talk to her and go to her for help.
Dealing with my dad's unexpected death in my early 20s (which was surprisingly not due to smoking, or at least not primarily) showed me that my parents are above all else PEOPLE-- with flaws, with struggles, who just did the very best they could with the hand life dealt them. Molly represents that so well and I think it's why I've been drawn to her lately.
25 years of So Weird and I am still finding so much to relate to and gush about with this show.
Forever keeping the faith that one day So Weird's full story will be told, either by graphic novel or reboot.
It is still absolutely timeless.
