I don't know why, but I decided to do this for Mlezi (they/them), my Golem Paladin TeamMom. Who is firmly medieval in technology, but eh, they've lived through everything that has ever happened anyway.

Describe their phone case.

It is an emerald green case, probably leather from some mythical creature that was used for food. Totally a flip case though, and instead of credit cards or cash it just has a bunch of photos of their more recent kids.

What’s on their lock screen?

Slideshow of pictures of their kids. The problem being that the slideshow never ends.

Do they use nicknames for their contacts or do they list contacts by full name?

Both, actually. They have all of their contacts down by their full name and append nicknames and every name they've ever had in their contact, just in case they forget about which name they're currently using.

Who do they text most frequently?

Rayne, their last kid, for sure. She doesn't often respond.

What’s their texting style? (EX: abbreviations or perfect grammar? One-word texts or paragraphs?)

One would think it would be perfect grammar, listening to them talk, but it is actually a bunch of lowercase tapping with typos throughout. This is always a shock to people the first time they talk.

Oh, they don't use their phone for calling people. Other people call them.

Deeseni. It is an app that you can type in your location and deity preference and it gives you a list of deities that match what you're thinking of. Mlezi uses it because they never remember the name of any deity beyond their creator.

It is called Dees Nuts by their children, of course.

What are their most frequently used emojis?

They strictly use very old style non-automatically-converted emoji. So :-) instead of :) and the like. They're actively trying to use emoji, but it all comes across as the type of emoji your grandfather might use.

Describe a photo they have saved on their phone.

They posed a whole lot of kittens of various breeds (several not considered domesticated) on top of one of their children, to teach them to be more aware of their surroundings when in a resting situation.

They just thought the photo was adorable.

There are zero selfies on their phone.

It is a tablet PC, actually, with an absolutely gargantuan screen. The back has a bunch of crayon drawings copied over to a vinyl sticker covering up brands and such. It isn't particularly powerful, but it has a really long lasting battery and more USB ports than you'd expect.

Now that it is complete, I should share the story of Mlezi with the rest of Tumblr. It is long, thus the cut, plus most people don't like hearing about others' RPG characters. :)

Mlezi (literally 'guardian' or 'tutor' in Swahili, potentially 'babysitter' in similar languages, they/them) is my D&D character. Mechanically, they're a Lawful Good (emphasis on the Good) Warforged Paladin of the Ancients (also known as a Green Knight), but in-game they're a golem. A very, very special golem.

The deity they follow (whose symbology you can see on their shield) is Faun, the god/dess (multi-gender identity, usually she/her to Mlezi) of Nature and Life in this setting, generally referred to as the creator. Mythologically speaking, Faun created the world and all of the life on it. Mlezi refers to Faun as their creator, and it generally goes by unnoticed..

... except Faun is literally Mlezi's creator. As in Mlezi was built and given life by Faun (pre-deification) as a protector of their children and to hopefully save at least some of them from the world ending in flame and light. As a last-ditch effort, Mlezi was sent out from this world to a new one that was given life (by Faun; the myths are true in this case) to try and save as many as possible before the old world went boom. The old world is still visible - as the Sun. When people (or Mlezi themselves) joke about Mlezi being older than dirt, they're right; they predate the dirt by at least a dozen years, if not longer.

Mlezi didn't have much of a personality back then, or really much of anything beyond being a golem - they had their programming, which was to protect the children, some basic other rules § to make sure they don't go berserk, and that's about it. But, the funny thing about children is that they grow up. And some have children of their own. It isn't much of a stretch to say that Mlezi's programming extends to their children as well. And theirs. And theirs.

Protecting children also requires adaptation. Protecting from monsters and existential threats are easy, but what happens if a child is feeling down? Well, cheering them up surely counts as protecting them, right? That just means Mlezi also needs to learn how to do that. And obviously the children should have a good role model; since you can't assume anyone else around can do that, that means Mlezi has to step up to that task, right? Over the generations, Mlezi slowly broke their own programming. After all, it is easy to do - almost all sapient life on the world would count for purposes of that original directive, and 'protection' is such a vague word that could mean anything.

Fast forward several thousand years. Mlezi is generally a myth outside of wherever they set up their orphanage. They take on those that need the most protection and find ways of letting those same children change and thrive in the world. They demonstrate by example whenever possible, find ways of teaching toward each of their children, and watch them grow up and leave. Every so often, they close down their orphanage so they themselves can grow and learn, then open it back up somewhere else some years later. Those that interacted with Mlezi thought they were just a golem driven by long-lost programming, but Mlezi's kids knew better. One even knighted them a few centuries back, having grown up to become a local elven king. He added Mlezi to an order he himself started based on Mlezi's tenets, now known as the Oath of the Ancients. And there is none more ancient than Mlezi. §§

Did I mention that Mlezi has an oven under their tabard that they use for baking cookies? Mlezi has a modified version of the Goodberry spell called Goodcookie, and cooking is the only skill they're actually an expert in. They are also an artist, which they use to help foster the light within themselves (and as a gentle 'haha screw you' to the people who think golems aren't really alive).

Now, the other figures depicted are from the campaign.

Mlezi's riding elk is their paladin mount - Bad Day (he/him), a Chaotic Good (emphasis on the Chaotic) Fey Elk who is capable of speaking Draconic. And only Draconic. He likes to cause chaos by deliberately interpreting what Mlezi asks of him in the most chaotic way possible, such as warning people in a temple by running in at full speed and screaming in Draconic incoherently until Bad Day could find a Dragonborn priest. Mind you, Bad Day fully understands multiple other languages (and Mlezi has a near-permanent Speak With Animals anyway), he just chose to do things His Way (aka the player needs to vent steam and add some humor). That's fine though, in the current campaign he's found his love, a celestial / spiritual animal that just so happened to be a 1% random encounter in the area we were traveling in. Said encounter happened twice. We're expecting to hear that Bad Day has some kids of his own any day now.

The kitten is a Mountain Cat from the Humblewood campaign setting, which is what the party is currently going through (albeit heavily modified because we started in a different setting first). One of the very first things in-game that happened was that Mlezi received a Bag of Kitten Holding, which can hold kittens in a pocket dimension. Inside of the bag, they have lots of play area, a gigantic cat tree, unlimited food, and invulnerability / immortality. Whenever brought outside of the bag, they keep that invulnerability. It also bestows its attuned owner the ability to permanently speak with all cats. They can even turn the bag inside-out to create a Swarm of Kittens (think the Box of Kittens depression meme; they've done that twice).

Early on, before we ever started Humblewood stuff, I had asked if this would extend to more than just domestic housecats, and the DM confirmed. Fastforward three IRL years and there are three Mountain Cat kittens inside of the bag of kittens (and I suspect one of the other kittens might be a displacer beast). The kittens also like to sneak out of the bag to play randomly (aka the DM needs to add a bit of levity to a scene), plus the entire party+DM are cat lovers anyway.

I haven't named the mountain kittens yet. I have a fifteen cat backlog for naming them at the moment. >_>

Mlezi means a lot to me, as they were my attempt at not just making a character fun and meaningful to play, but also to make a character that would be easy to DM, as my DM was new when we started. They became much more meaningful to me with their way of handling everything - with grace, kindness, and understanding - in contrast to how my world fell apart around me; on top of Covid and the coup attempt in the US, my mother had also recently lost her battle with cancer.

I'm happy to have commissioned art for them and hope to hang it on a wall in my home someday. Thank you, @foldingfittedsheets, for the gorgeous art you did for me!, and long live Radiant Mlezi the Green Knight!

§ - Basically, Asimov's three laws for AIs. Which if you blur some things and squint, look an awful lot like the tenets of the Oath of the Ancients. So much so that I designed Mlezi to be a paladin specifically because of that coincidence, with the delightful idea of something artificial representing (and embodying) nature. Throw in some Terry Pratchett in how Golems work and you've got Mlezi.

§§ - I decided on the term "Radiant" for a gender-neutral version of "Sir" or "Dame" for someone who is knighted. I based it on trying to find something like that online and pouring through lists of gender-neutral titles; I think it really fit the character. Others should feel free to use the same title!

@aetherspoon took out a big commission for their DnD character, a stone golem named Mlezi, their riding elk, and baby mountain cat. I'm so excited to be working on this! Here's the sketch, ink, and base color phases. (The base color is just to create layer masks and make it easier to see the details).

Yes, I made a new cringy OC. Asks are on whatever- 

He’s Ajabu (Strange Lion)’s brother. Ajabu is 5 or 4 years older than him.

Ajabu and he are Ubinafsi (Selfish Lion)’s sons.

He left the Outlands to become Simba’s guardian when he’s the king.

His name means “guardian”.

He was born with the name “Mwizi” meaning stealer. He changed it when he joined the Pridelands.

He doesn’t knows Scar killed Ajabu. 

He’d never say it out loud, but he thinks Ajabu deserved death.

He hates Scar and anyone who looks up to him- even tho he never met Scar. 

He got some of his scars from his brother.

Me and @sketch-shepherd were talking about TLK 2 and who Mercutio’s counterpart would be since the story’s basically Romeo and Juliet. There isn’t really one in the movie unless you count Timon and Pumbaa as they’re both the comic reliefs, but I decided to make my own. She could also be considered the Nurse as well, although she’s Kovu’s caretaker, not Kiara’s.

Her basic backstory is that she survived the final battle in TLK 1. Her clan disbanded, as some perished and others ran away. Unaware of Scar throwing the hyenas under the bus (as well as not having many other options for survival), she sought out Zira and begged to be taken in in exchange for food. When Kovu and Vitani were born, Nuka often dump them onto Mlezi to look after. It’s a rough life, but Mlezi genuinely likes the cubs when they aren’t getting into trouble.

Black Sheep by Metric seems to fit me really well - I mean, I’m pretty much nothing like my family or the military school I was trained in, so the title is a win there. I’m just waiting for the world to end, so that fits... it is kind of creepy that way. I don’t know about taking a ride from anyone though, I don’t like people that way, ew.

Smashing the Opponent by Infected Mushroom would work pretty well from my later academy days. Thanks to Naisa’s influence, I went from a D+ wizarding student to the top of my class and dueling some of the instructors even. One of them in particular was SUCH a perv though that I sort of just... forgot about limiting my abilities. You know, I don’t know if he actually survived or not, I kind of ran away the next night.

Empty Streets by Scandroid pretty much summarizes my experience once we went into space though. I’m not really alone, Cuddles is always with me and Ghost is probably nearby somewhere that I can’t see, but those drones should definitely be watched out for. We were in a space station - station, psh, that was TOTALLY a Wizard’s Tower. I hate those! Sure, there was a bunch of fancy technology and blasters and stuff, but the point remains - WIZARD. TOWER. I’m still trying to figure out how these so-called circuits work though. Naavi is made of a bunch of electrical signals coming from a power source that I can only describe as ‘what happens when Wizards get bored up in their towers’ and...

Oh right! I’m a MASTER of dancing.. on a technical level, anyway! It just... doesn’t seem to come up when trying to stop an omnicidal maniac from trying to become a new god in the next universe, you know? But get a good beat and give me some nice shoes and I can tap better than everyone I know!

The less said about my singing the better though. Oy, CL still brings up my attempt at singing lessons when I was half a century old. My father thought I was killing a bird and blamed my servant for it. *cries*

Sabotage by The Beastie Boys for sure, some days seem like it matches everything I do. I’m not entirely sure which celestial being’s plan I keep foiling, but I think they might be called Dee.

The End of an Empire by Celldweller really resonates with me, but I can’t quite remember why. I really wish I remembered much of my history. Maybe I was a part of an empire of some type? (read: spoilertastic reasons)

Can I sing? Well, I don’t know if I’ve tried or not. Let me see. *harmonizes perfectly* I guess that’s a yes? I guess I just haven’t felt an urge to try before. No, wait, I remember doing that on the boat, but I think that was more to lure people to their doom or something, I don’t know.

I mean, I know I’ve danced before. Have you ever danced while pretending to be a less dexterous flamboyant pirate captain who has his crew there to heckle him? I have!

Music is important to sapient life - it is the one thing I have found in common with most species here on Nova. Your Earth music may be a bit strange to me, but the concept is simple enough.

Mr. Roboto by Styx is the most suitable song for me, to the point where I am unsure of what other songs would apply. Assuming you changed that ‘Japan’ place with my actual homeworld of Terra. I wish I remembered more before we arrived in Nova though...

Shatter Me by Lindsay Stirling and Lzzy Hale fits me before my current generation of kids, I suppose. Always feeling like I need more to feel alive, until I shattered myself and became a Knight. ‘Radiant’ is a far superior title to ‘that old malfunctioning golem’.

Ancient Slumber by Rainbowdragoneyes pretty much fits what I felt like when I woke up on Nova. It was quite lacking in life, so I had to make sure I was a good person and restore as much as I could. While I’m not one for swords, the song is quite an accurate fit otherwise.

My children have tried to convince me that I am capable of “cutting a rug” as some would say, but I merely caused the locals to believe there was an earthquake in the nearby area. I am trying to learn how to sing, but I decided that learning how to paint was a higher priority. No matter, I have all of eternity to learn new things.

"I looked up at the Zebra on the throne again. He was still smiling. I felt a wave of hatred boil through me and my eyes narrowed into a glare. I spit at him, my saliva was red with blood and the spittle drooped down his cheek, staining his white fur. Much like my attack, he remained unmoved. He reached up and casually wiped the spittle away before leaning back in his chair and taking on a relaxed posture.

“You are quite the hero.” He spoke, his accent was thick, but he spoke with confidence. I could already tell by his pronunciation that he had a stronger grasp of the Equestrian language than most of his subordinates.

The word ‘hero’ set my teeth on edge and seemed to affect me more than the beating had. I spat again, this time on the ground at his feet (though I admit, it was mainly to clear my mouth so I could speak). “I’m no hero.”

The zebra raised his brow and let out a mirthful laugh. “Then you play well at being one.” He grinned. He raised his hoof to those that held me; “basi aende.”

Their hooves immediately let me go and I dropped to the ground, grunting a little as I realised how much every inch of me hurt. I slowly pulled myself to my hooves and looked up at the Zebra again.

“I am Njano Mlezi. I am Kaisari wa Wengi. Or as your tongue has crowned me, ‘Caesar of the Legion’.” "

(III). MAUMIVU YA NAFSI BAADA YA KUZALIWA MPAKA UTU UZIMA.

....Haya ni maumivu ya moyo yanayompata mtu tangu anapozaliwa mpaka utu uzima (Yaani tunamzungumzia mtoto sasa aliyezaliwa na anaendelea kukua).

Mfano, UTOTO WA MUSA

.....Mtu mmoja nyumba ya Lawi akaoa binti mmoja, Yule mwanamke akachukua mimba akazaa mwana, na alipoona ya kuwa ni mtoto mzuri AKAMFICHA miezi mitatu. Alipokuwa hawezi kumficha tena, akampatia kisafina cha manyasi, akamtia mtoto ndani yake, akakiweka katika majani kando ya mto. Basi binti Farao akashuka, aoge mtoni, na vijakazi wake wakatembea kando ya mto; naye akakiona kile kisafina katika majani, akamtuma kijakazi wake kwenda kukileta. Akakifungua, akamwona mtoto, na tazama, mtoto yule analia. Basi akamhurumia, akasema, Huyu ni mmojawapo wa watoto wa Waebrania. Binti Farao akamwambia nduguye, Haya! Enenda. Yule kijana akaenda akamwita mama yake yule mtoto. Binti Farao akamwambia, Mchukue mtoto huyu, ukaninyonyeshee, nami nitakupa mshahara wako. Yule mwanamke akamtwaa mtoto, akamnyonyesha. Mtoto akakua, naye akamleta kwa binti Farao, akawa mwanawe. Akamwita jina lake Musa, akasema, Ni kwa sababu nalimtoa majini.

Andiko hilo linaelezea kuzaliwa na utoto wa Musa.

Kumbuka mimba ilichukuliwa wakati wa katazo la kuzaa watoto wa kiume, na kama wakizaliwa wauliwe, ndio maana unaona Musa anafichwa.... Anatelekezwa kwenye kisafina..... Kutengwa na ndugu yake......Anaokotwa..... Analia (mateso)..... Analelewa na mlezi lakini hajui kama ni mama yake...... Anakulia mazingira ya kuifahamu miungu kuliko MUNGU.... Anaitwa jina ambalo ni matokeo ya kutelekezwa majini.

Huo ni utoto wa maisha ya Musa ambao tunauona na vitu ambavyo alipitia, Kesho tutaonana ujana wake mpaka utu uzima wake ili tunapozungumzia vyanzo vya maumivu baada ya kuzaliwa uelewe vyema.

Barua ya SU inayotumia Uwanja wa Namfua, kwenda TFF iliyosainiwa na Katibu Mkuu, Abdulrahman Sima kwenda TFF imesema kwamba wamefikia uamuzi huo baada ya agizo la Mlezi wa timu, Mheshimiwa Dk. Mwigulu Nchemba, Mbunge wa Iramba Magharibi. “Dk Mwigulu amesema hakuna mgogoro wa kiusajili kwani alitoa ridhaa kwa mchezaji kwenda kujisajili na alikubaliana na viongozi wa Yanga wafanye na kwamba hakuna fedha inayorudishwa bali usajili huo ni mchango wake kwa klabu kwa makubaliano kwamba kama mchezaji hatakuwa na kiwango cha kubaki Yanga ataletwa Singida United,”amesema Sima. Tell me please something about Mlezi, I'm really curious

Soooooo, Mlezi isn’t really outgoing- he doesn’t has a family or friends- after Simba became king, Mlezi decided he will protect him no matter what. So yeah, his only friend is Simba- he doesn’t really trusts strangers or likes them- he oftenly gets overprotective. His appearance reminds many people the strange lion- and they’re probably related- but it’s still unknown. He knows about Zira, but he hates her. The reason is Zira is Scar’s follower- Mlezi dislikes anyone wh is positive about Scar- the reason is becouse he thinks Scar is a betrayer and murderer-  he never met Scar.
