okok this blog exists bc one day I clicked on a tknp fic in some random person’s bookmarks just because it seemed interesting and the rest is history

so it’s only right i make a list of my fave fics I’ve read since then

The silence that washes through the locker room is deafening. No one says anything for a long 30 seconds. The only sound is that of skate guards squeaking against the floor.

Nolan is the one who breaks the silence. “What the fuck? They can’t trade you.”  And Travis winces and Nolan widens his eyes like a deer caught in headlights and someone to his left sighs. “Oh.”

Notes: The conversation in the second to last scene gets me Every Time 😭

“Hahahah the flyers are shit,” Morgan tweets, sometime in early November of 2013. He's probably not expecting a pissy pre-teen from Cicero, New York to slide into his DMs and start up a four year argument over whether or not the Flyers suck, right up until Morgan turns eighteen and gets drafted by the Flyers himself.

Notes: This is THEE quintessential joel/morgan fic to me

in my defense, spring - (T, 2,764 words, Magical Realism) ⭐

Morgan gets called up a month into the season. He arrives in Philly with three suits, two duffle bags full of gear, and a very large potted basil plant.

Notes: I went on a magical realism bender for a bit and this is one of the faves. Frosty as a spring witch born into a winter witch family :’) Taking care of all his plants :’)

The Next Next One (M, 71,275 words) ⭐

No, Dylan has not picked up a copy of the book, nor does he plan to anytime soon. No, he has not talked to Connor about it. He hasn’t talked to Connor about anything in a long time, but the media does not need to know that.

Notes: This is number one all time fave. It turns me inside out every time I read it. So well written down to the fake book snippets!!!! You could take this and make a movie adaptation of it and it would kill at the box office.

Carter's fed up with feeling like he’s wasting his summer, out of sync with his friends, watching the days dwindle down with nothing to show for it.

He’s not sure what he expects Joel to be able to do about that feeling, but at least he’s a promised distraction.

Notes: This is so great at capturing a Very Specific summer vibe. End notes changed my whole opinion on ‘Tis The Damn Season, lmao. I cry now.

This is just a handful of stuff that lives rent free in my head. I read a lot of fanfic so if you’ve got a way to narrow it down - ship, fandom, trope, etc - I can do something a little more tailored. I know you said any fandom is fine but I’m gonna stick with hrpf at the moment unless you want recs for other fandoms.

Fic recs:

two kids, you and me by myownremedy is probably my must read when it comes to hrpf. Set during the 2016 season it’s Sid+Flower platonic soulmates Sid/Geno potential romance. It’s one of the earlier hrpf fics I’ve read and it solidified SidFlower as one of my favorite dynamics. I’m a sucker for soulmates and platonic soulmates is just *chefs kiss.* If you read nothing else from this list, read this one.

Garrote by Downjune Moving away from fic specificly, there are a handful of authors from when I first started reading hrpf back in 2017 that I will read anything they write and Downjune is one of them. This fic makes me feel insane about Grilled Cheesby. It’s such a good magic/curse au and it’s genuinely terrifying at times. It’s so good.

To Be Seen Alright by Deastar. Idk if you could do a hrpf rec list without mentioning Deastar. The stuff is long, complex, and will make you cry. This series lives in my head rent free. It’s a BDSM AU featuring sub!Sid figuring himself out through his early years in the league. Some of the stuff gets pretty heavy and Sid has a lot of internalized shame so mind the tags.

Spare Change for Parts by pikasafire there’s not a lot of SidKris out there but this one asks - if Sid isn’t a hockey robot, what if Tanger was - and it works. There’s no tags so cw some medical and injury stuff. If you’re squeamish about ppl poking around the inner workings of an android while it’s concious this isn’t for you

Behind Every Great Fortune by orphan_account Leverage fusion with hrpf characters

Do We Get What We Deserve by withershins I should probably say more about this than team poly werewolf au set during the 15-16 season but honestly I’m not sure what else there is to say

defined by their histories by sequestering. This isn’t in my top top, but I think you’d like it. If you liked early 2010s avengers mixed media fic and enjoy omegaverse and hrpf then this is the fic for you. The story focuses on the first omega in the nhl (Sid) but it’s told through the lens of emails, forum posts, news headlines, reddit, etc etc. It’s a lot, but the outside POV is so good.

Nesting Habits of Penguins Goalies by VelvetPaw goalie nesting is my shit and this is a good series featuring pens goalies. If you like this I’ve got more nesting recs.

Home Is Where by Bluejay141519 this is a platonic nesting fic but it lives in my head rent free and is right there when I think about nesting logistics and what communal or platonic nesting would look like

Notes: 98% of this fic was written before season 1 was released, so keep that in mind, because there's obviously going to be inconsistencies with canon. It's nearly finished (at least according to the author's notes in the latest chapters, I think). I suggest pacing yourself with this one - it's nearly 700k words long. Notes: This fic has me in a CHOKEHOLD. I love the characterizations so, so much. Manages to fit in humor alongside the angst. One of the best fight scenes I've ever seen put into words. Curtailed really took Vox and Alastor as characters and planned out a cool fucking fight scene using their unique abilities. I automatically love anything tagged with "one fell first but the other fell harder" lol.

The voice was perky, cheerful, and bright. It had a crisp mid-Atlantic accent, the kind Vox remembered being all the rage for stage and film performers back when he first entered the broadcast industry. The diction was crystal clear with every sound enunciated separately to maximise clarity, the consonants clicked and the vowels were broad. It was a performer’s voice.

From their first meeting through their friendship, to their enmity and fighting. From infatuation to yearning to animosity. Dancing is a partnership, is it not?

Notes: Each chapter so far has been a different type of dance, which is really neat. Especially chapter 2. ^_^ That said, there's a feeling of impending doom, knowing what happens to their relationship eventually... Not saying that as a deterrent but just a comment on how I felt while reading it lol. It's very sweet, which is why it hurts to think of future chapters. 🙃

Summary: All sinners of hell bore some physical marks of how they lived and died. Some physical manifestations were more obvious while others were subtle. Vox was not an exception to this rule.

While his television head was an obvious indication of his life while on Earth, the mark he bore from his death was far more subdued. Luckily enough, his shame was easily concealed behind a high collar. Unfortunately, he is just as well known in his afterlife as he was in his life. As such, trying to make everyone believe that he is so much stronger than what his death implies is a constant battle. He only wished that he wasn’t the hardest one to convince.

Notes: I think platonic Radiostatic is the endgame here. Still pretty early in the story, but I'm really liking this author's depiction of Vox and Alastor's pasts. Heed the tags. There are heavy subjects such as suicide (very big theme for Vox's pov) and period-typical racism (in Alastor's past) present in the story.

Notes: This author has a great sense of humor, lmao. I enjoyed the unique headcanons for Alastor's backstory. The tag that hooked me: "Accidentally becoming a better person through bad domming and found family".

Jake "Hangman" Seresin

Synopsis: Mrs. Seresin always picks up Jake when he returns from deployment. He likes to make sure she can easily find him.

Notes: A To-Do List imagine inspired by this.

Warnings: Suggestive, but mostly fluff

Word count: 0.5k

Airport pick-ups were the worst. The traffic alone was enough for her to consider paying a car service to pick up Jake. The drive was always longer than she wanted, and she always held her breath that his Ram 1500 would fit into the garage. 

However, that first hug made the slog worth it.

Her sneakers squeaked as she traversed the corridors between the parking garage and luggage claim. The butterflies in her chest fluttered. The excitement of Jake coming home never ceased. Although the most worrisome part was over—he was coming home to her—her nerves were still electric

When they were apart for months, or even weeks, things sometimes changed. A haircut, a new piercing or maybe a new fashion trend. Sometimes Jake came home with shorter hair or bulked up from a protein-rich diet and unfettered gym access.

As she neared the luggage carousels, the crowd thickened. She scanned the sea of people, but no sign of Jake. People streamed around her—most careful to mind their limbs. Vigiliant, she kept searching.

There!

Instead of Jake’s blond coif, she spied his fawn-colored, slightly askew, Stetson. He always made a point to wear it so she could easily spot him. It served its purpose both in the airport and at the docks. 

The masses seemed to part and give her a perfect view of Jake in a black v-neck, broken-in Levi’s and aviators hooked on his shirt collar. 

They made eye contact as they floated toward each other. “Hey, cowboy.” She wrapped her arms around his middle as they met. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders and pushed his lips to hers. His hat perched perfectly for her to fit underneath. 

“Hey, pretty woman.” He responded after their kiss. Neither of them could stop smiling. Jake pulled her in for another kiss. Then time, his tongue dipped into her mouth. 

Her hands dropped lower until they were tucked in the back pockets of his jeans. 

“I can’t wait to get you home.” His lips remained against hers as he spoke. Then his hands traveled south until they were almost on her ass. She fully pressed herself against his front. 

She bit her lip as she looked up at him. Jake definitely didn’t understand how much power he wielded. His deep dimples and eye crinkles made her weak. And, somehow, his dazzling smile hadn’t killed her yet. 

As she studied his features, he freed an arm to pluck his hat off his head and place it on hers. It slipped over her eyes, but Jake quickly adjusted it. 

“Seems like we have plans when we get home, cowboy.” She glanced up at the brim.

He hummed in agreement. As they separated, she ran her hand down his arm until their fingers laced. Hand-in-hand, they strolled toward the parking garage. 

Suddenly, Jake looked at her. She returned the gaze, waiting for him to say something. “Do you still have your saloon girl outfit?”

A smile broke across her face. “It’s in the closet next to your chaps.” 

He bit his lip. The thoughts flooding his mind were best left unsaid in public. “Dress up for the evening?”

She couldn’t help but laugh. “I don’t mind dressing up to go for a ride.”
