"Why are you scared?"

"...Wh- what? Scared?"

"I know that's why you lash out like that. And why you never sleep. And why you drink so much."

"Nyzak! I don't-"

"But what I don't understand is why you never talk about it. If it's so scary, wouldn't it be better to get it off your chest?"

"It's not like he can do anything about it anymore, he's dead remember?"

"I know that! I of all people would know that better than anyone!" "So- so why are you so scared?! He can't hurt us anymore!" "How can you be sure?! How can you be so sure of that?!?! The dead walk among us, every night they rise and come to kill! Humans have even found a way to resurrect the damned ender dragon! Who's to say..." "Who's to say he can't come back?"

"...That's what you're afraid of? Dad coming back? No, no no it's...it's more than that isn't it?"

Sarah hangs her head. Her voice goes quiet. "...Every night I see his face. Leering at me, telling me it's only a matter of time. He'll come for me first. And then you. And then everyone."

"Sarah..." Nyzak comes over to Sarah's side of the table, leaning on the table and her shoulder.

"And four times as smart to boot! Besides...you won't be alone this time. You got me, and the whole stinkin' guard to back us up!"

"So...So stop trying to handle everything else alone. I'm right here. I...I love you, sis."

Sarah goes quiet, wincing ever so slightly as tears start to form in her eye and roll down her cheek. Nyzak sighs, relieved if anything, to finally see her walls coming down. They pull her into a hug just as she breaks down completely...

"I'm so sorry...I promise you, I'm going to do better."

A heat wave hits the Badlands and an exhausted and lost Pillager stumbles across a well on the shade. She runs to it and starts drinking as a human, equally exhausted and dehydrated, finds it. Both freeze at the sight of the other but the Pillager is too tired and weak and just keeps drinking and pouring water over herself to cool off.

The human hesitates but notes the absence of a crossbow but presence of a dagger in the belt. She takes up the spot on the opposite side so she can watch the illager. The grey skin was sunburned and some Badlands ticks had attached to the edges, behind, and inside of the ears.

This disgusted the human but the illager did not appear as bothered. Hero recalled encountering Villagers who had a similar attitude towards bugs on them. They did all evolve from different creatures than primates so perhaps a lack of more parasite picking was a result.

But the ticks bothered the Hero immensely and as the illager was distracted washing a scrape to her arm, something swiftly plucked at her ear and it hurt a bit. She snapped her head to glare at the human. What the hell was that about?? Her arm needed more attention and she began to wrap it with a bandana.

"Ow!" She exclaimed as the ear teasing happened again, and this time she saw the human toss aside several bugs. Had those come from her? Huh...she had more than she realized. She bared her sharp teeth to warn, thinking of her dagger. But the human woman was also packing a crossbow, a sword, and a shield. A dagger would not prevail against that.

The Pillager took another long drink and- damn it the human was fast!- the woman wasn't exactly attacking her and she didn't have the energy to fight, so she retreated to beneath an overhang for more shade and some distance. She was out like a light soon after, deeply in slumber as her body delighted in rest. When she awoke in the early morning her ears were sore but also clear of ticks on both sides.

Did humans eat them?! Such an odd behavior and towards an enemy no less. The Pillager sighed, resigning herself to never understanding humans. They were a danger, a pest, persistent, curious, scarily resilient...and apparently obsessed with bugs. If she found an Outpost she would share her new knowledge and maybe even make a journal to document her experiences with these creatures.

Skadi: As for underdogs... I think we're all about equal in power. Alessa has her plant abilities, Nik can cast illusions powerful enough to seem real, Nightshade seems to have an affinity for potions, and I... can bend metal with my magnetism as well as my bare hands.

Who wants a bit of Minecraft spec bio?

In my headcanon for Minecraft the majority of mobs share a very recent common ancestor with a slime-mold adjacent organism called the "root node," meaning most mobs (villagers, illagers, skeletons, zombies, mooshrooms, others) are fungoid/plantoid-appearing creatures.

Villagers are among the most complex of them all, boasting an intricate method of expression through extendable facial "petals" (thin, mostly transparent membranes) that shift in color, pattern, and intensity to express a vast and dynamic field of emotions. The protrusions on their head resembling eyebrows and a nose light up in patterns to convey information. Conversation is occasionally emphasized by vocal cues (the iconic "hrms").

While impossible to translate standard villager conversation into something intelligible to humans without advanced technology, Steve is the most "fluent in villager," with a baseline understanding of what different colors mean on a villager's petals and even dyed paper cards to replicate the expressions himself. He also has established a rudimentary sign language with the nearby village.

Steve works with a certain villager he's nicknamed The Language Guy, or "TLG," to propose new signs or revise existing ones. TLG distributes language updates to the village when they happen. TLG is the most "fluent in human," so they are the village's Steve equivalent when it comes to diplomacy with humans. They are also working on writing a book with every established sign and its definition. Since villagers don't have a written language yet, it consists of easily interpreted pictograms.

Humans and villagers have rather shallow avenues of communication due to their complete lack of intuition about each other's natures. However, due to their frequent interactions, TLG and Steve are very close friends for creatures with a compatibility gap bigger than the Grand Canyon.

Alex would really like to learn about all of this, but she's not quite got the hang of it yet.

She smiles as the enderling speaks. Rare to spot an enderling alone, so far from its kind. She does her best to give a friendly face, and hide the deep set worry she feels at the sight of this child.

"My name is Sarah. I have a village back in the overworld. If you'd like, I can take you there. It's safe, protected, and my people are very accepting of enderkind, I promise."

She holds out her hand, offering to help the young one to their feet.

It is rare to see an ender as young as you so far from the end realm. Are you lost? If you would so desire, I would be happy to offer any assistance. Mine people and I are friends of enderfolk. In fact, mine younger sibling is of enderkind!"

The Child looks up, drowsiness clouding her eyes. Seems like she is happening trouble resting in between the trees. SHe blinked several times, unsure what the figure standing before her. To ALmie, this one looks close to an Enderman but the proportions are all off! Maybe she ate too many of the teal and red mushrooms. Perhaps it's the exhaustion that refused to leave her.

"... Friends?"

Ether way, this one is offering help and friendship, something Almie desires greatly.
