Okay, so, genuine question. How does the food chain work in the world of Uprooted? Because the people are all cute critters, including animals that people irl have a tendency to eat (like rabbits, chickens, ducks, etc). Is it a sort of cartoon like situation, where some of the animals are sentient, and others are not? If that’s the case then would it be commonplace for, say, a rabbit to eat rabbit stew? Or would it still technically be considered cannibalism? Because not all the critters are herbivores. We got carnivores, like cats, dogs, etc. And sure, they may not constantly eat meat, but I imagine they mostly do.
Also, at what point does an animal stop being sentient? All the characters thus far have been fairly small-medium sized critters, so I assume larger animal—like, say, a horse—wouldn’t be sentient. Unless it follows Peppa Pig rules, where some large animals are sentient and some aren’t. But then what about smaller critters, like a blue jay? Are they all sentient, or only some of them (like Blue Jay Simpson)?
These are all very important questions for my immersion, even though I imagine that literally none of this pertains to the plot of Uprooted (whatever that may be)
#to be fair I have this same thought process for literally any cartoon with animal characters#like Peppa pig or zootopia#actually I just googled if the Peppa pig characters eat meat and I instead found a Reddit thread#of someone asking a similar question; but pointing out that they eat products with milk and eggs#and that just made me realize that the uprooted characters do the same#assuming they’re using chicken eggs; how the fuck does that work if there’s a whole race consisting of chickens?#like…that’s their way of producing children. and no they’re not fertile at that point but like#that’s like if I mixed the eggs from my ovaries into a cake. just because there ain’t a baby there doesn’t make it any less fucked yo#unless it’s different somehow??? how the fuck does food work in this world????#legends of avantris#uprooted#this is such a stupid question but I desperately need to know now#and like this is /hj but also not really

Homemade White Butter
Homemade White Butter: A Taste of Tradition and Care For the past 20 days, I embarked on a delightful journey of creating homemade white butter—a process steeped in tradition and rooted in love for wholesome, farm-fresh goodness. Thanks to the creamy milk from our generous neighbor’s farm, I was able to collect cream daily and turn it into a culinary treasure. Here’s how I did it: Collecting…

Does anyone ever wonder if people who sell lactase had a hand in the wave of 'Actually milk isn't *that* good for you, it just had good advertising" sentiment across pop culture some time ago
#cus like we (almost) all have the genes to process lactose our bodies just turn them off as we wean off it#And several experiments have allegedly shown that you can make them turn back on its just...not easy or fun.#requiring either experimental treatments or incredibly patiently paced scheduled consumption or a secret third option that is 1000% not fun#and obviously just because an experiment worked for some people doesnt mean it would work for everyone with the gene#but like lactose-containing products are so popular to the point that its not abnormal for microcelebs to be like#oh yeah im intolerant i just deal with it because yummy#but like i wonder if lactose intolerance increased after a lot of casual conversation about how strong milks advertising is#and if lactase sales raised proportionally

Being lactose intolerant is like "oh yes let's go get ice cream after dinner! But I will need to take my half eaten cone in the car with me and finish at home because I can feel my tummy beginning to rebel after like two licks of my butter pecan"
#yes i know i can just eat dairy free ice cream or get the medicine to make me process lactose properly#but i want flavors that aren't available dairy free at our local ice cream place#and i don't have any of the medicine because my consumption of dairy doesn't inconvenience me enough#(read: i usually eat/drink all my horrible milk products while at home where i can go fight my demons immediately)
