Forgive my asking, but what are you meant to do if you find hair in your food at a restaurant? Send the whole thing back to the kitchen? I'd of course send my food back over something larger or grosser, like a nail clipping, or multiple pieces of hair, but it seems like such a hassle for just one piece.

I’m not putting this in any tags but I really am struggling to put into words my general dissatisfaction in the direction of draggy ahge into words past “it doesn’t seem to trust its audience with complexity anymore.”

But that kind of is it? In origins, awakening, 2 and even the early TTRPG adventures and novels, there was a distinct feeling of grey morality, of difficult and unsolvable issues, even when you could choose the middle road. There were a lot of questions around systemic injustice and interpretation of history and power through the church and other such themes that were given a lot of space for interpretation.

But the fandom made things more black and white and rather than allowing that to be fan interpretation (which is legit, I think it’s fine for fan works to be more trope led and simplify things for fun) it feels like it was really adopted into the franchise? Everything is so over-explained, trope-led and surface level now and it’s a real shame to me.

I love WFA! Opinions on the new/recent chapter/s?

I was so worried at the beginning of the new chapter that we were going the direction of... let's say "comic-accurate Bruce". Thankfully we didn't but. Yeesh.

I think it is a very Bruce Wayne thing that he just tunnel visioned himself into hurting his family so he can "protect them", so he didn't feel too out of character. Not a huge fan of how he just snaps out of it, although I like that it was Jason who causes him to do so. The fact that he was so prepared to fight Cass can also be good and bad I think. On one hand, bro was just prepared to fight his daughter in order to take away her (and the others') last lines of defense. That is some Earth Prime Batman shit. But on the other hand, it can work in that he had to tunnel vision himself so hard to prepare to fight her that the shock of seeing Jason instead basically scared him straight. Either or. Curious to see what Selina has to say to him.

I think this arc has been rather clunky, but overall I like what they're going for. It kinda just comes down to if you want to like it or not. It definitely still has its heartwarming moments to keep me on board.

What's Masks?

Masks is a rules lite ttrpg that recreates the "Teenage superhero" genre, stuff like Teen Titans and... uh. Spiderverse? I'm gonna level it's not my favorite genre, which says a lot about how good the game is that I still adore it more than anything else.

It's easily, easily my favorite ttrpg of all time, and it's extremely obvious how much it has influenced the way I approach ttrpgs and the way I write my own games. Every part of the core systems is so fucking smart. The way your stats are in flux as your identity shifts and you grow as a character, the way that the Moment of Truth system literally lets you hijack control of the narrative away from the GM, the way that every character has a natural timer until they have to become an adult and leave the narrative - it genuinely just Works. I adore this game with all my heart.

Against all odds, we have survived. We're taking a university course now, because the government will pay us for it and we do need the money, but it has unfortunately been eroding at our sanity somewhat, and we are learning nothing that we don't already know. We are, however, getting money.

We have somewhat of a backlog on Discord at the moment, as it doesn't have a daily upload limit and also it's easier to stick things on while we are being told things that we already know by people who are phrasing in in ways we find significantly misleading or incorrect (note: we don't use apps for things the vast majority of the time and if we access Tumblr via browser it immediately fucks up our formatting on PC, which can last several months). We will, hopefully, be posting these soon, but all is dependant on if we can actually scare up the time between courses to conglomerate that and fix any formatting errors in thoughts and such.

If that will happen any time soon... good question! Every time that our work practicum teacher opens her mouth, we take points of physical damage, and we don't think she understands the fact that getting back after we walk to a place also involves walking. We've had a lot going on for a while now and very little of it has been good. We're on new meds, and if the gods prove merciful, we won't have to tolerate this particular clown show past March. If there is no mercy to be found, however, we might have to keep doing this until June, in which case you can probably expect the quality of this to take a sharp downturn as the short time we have already spent in this program is already having immediate and catastrophic effects on our mental health.

We do not recommend going to university in any circumstances, but we are unfortunately aware that it may be necessary to get such things as a fancy piece of paper saying you are employable. Additionally, we would tell you to calibrate your expectations for anyone with a degree lower, but apparently what we consider the basic level of knowledge you should know before saying anything on any topic is everyone else's "bachelor degree and a bit", so our estimations on what people think is a high degree of knowledge to have are probably also off.

How would you recommend Lost Kingdom, having played a bit now? I happened to grab a rom of the sequel a while ago and have been meaning to give it a go :p

I mean, I haven't played the sequel yet, but I can recommend the original for sure, it's been a lot of fun^^

there's some caveats to that of course, like you have to really like old-age graphics (I stumbled over a review from the time that says this game wasn't even up to game cube standards at the time, which is a plus to me but not to many other people I imagine) and questionable mechanics choices (invisible semi-random encounters -_- I hate those) and extremely strange counterproductive quirks, like if you finish a level, you can never return to it again until you finish the game, there is not necessarily a clear sign as to where the level finish line is exactly (if you read the instructions before starting the level it might be obvious but often it also isn't, I just missed treasure in a level by accident because talking to some knight ended the level), and the most efficient way to like grind for xp or for more cards is to start a level, play through half of it long before it ends, then click the 'abort'-button (comes at no cost) and do that repeatedly, and the levels are small and the game is very linear (your choices boil down to 'continue the main quest' or 'do the 1 current side quest the game offers you), and you have to read a lot (card descriptions are vital to not suddenly spend all your mana on a useless action)

but the underlying formula is a lot of fun, there's a nice combination of using independent creatures you summon and weapon type creatures you use yourself, so you both get the feel of commanding monsters while also getting in on the action yourself, the card designs are all wonderful and feature exactly the kind of cast you would imagine if you played some fromsoft games and the princess girl is super cute... and just like, poring over your card collection pondering what you might be able to transform your creatures into with some extra experience and getting new cards all feels really satisfying, so it does overall easily outweigh all the flaws outlined above

Posting this on my art blog as it kinda fits

I'm not sure what I can really explain or what context I can give for this scene, as Kill It and Leave This Town is a very surreal film that's entirely based on the director's, Mariusz Wilczyński, grief and loss and was a way to give farewells to his passed on loved ones, but this scene of the film still has stuck with me. The cat's nihilistic speech on annihilation and the destruction of all things created is something I look back on when Grief is too much to bear, and I wish that any experiences I had never happened so I never had to deal with the grief.

Kill It and Leave This Town is still a film I think about a lot...

Yes while Victor DID dream of kissing his cousin on the lips, when awake he doesn't seem to be maintaining this kind of romantic feelings that much. Maybe partly due to this being said in retrospect, or maybe because he doesn't really see her as a romantic partner. I haven't read many books with romance in them lately to compare (been reading Moby Dick, 20k Leagues, Jekyll And Hyde) but comparing the, contrary to popular belief, evident attraction between Jonathan and Mina, or between Marcus and Cosette (though in a different context) it reads are less romantic to me.

To be honest, I forgot about any such scene. So I looked it up, and, well...

At length lassitude succeeded to the tumult I had before endured; and I threw myself on the bed in my clothes, endeavouring to seek a few moments of forgetfulness. But it was in vain: I slept indeed, but I was disturbed by the wildest dreams. I thought I saw Elizabeth, in the bloom of health, walking in the streets of Ingolstadt. Delighted and surprised, I embraced her; but as I imprinted the first kiss on her lips, they became livid with the hue of death; her features appeared to change, and I thought that I held the corpse of my dead mother in my arms; a shroud enveloped her form, and I saw the grave-worms crawling in the folds of the flannel.

Yeah, there's a reason this scene didn't stick in my memory as 'Victor dreams about kissing Elizabeth' so much as 'Victor has pretty revealing nightmares about the things on his mind'. This kiss doesn't seem romantic to me at all.

Elizabeth is very clearly overlapping his mother here - quite literally, she turns into her. I think that points to a couple things.

First, Elizabeth greeted with a first kiss = Victor meeting his mother's final wishes (on her deathbed some of the final words were that she had always hoped to be made happy by seeing Victor and Elizabeth married).

And yet his kiss is the kiss of death, killing her = reflecting Victor's horror over what he's done, the Creature he created being something monstrous to his eyes (also foreshadowing how his relationship to her will put her in danger along with his other loved ones, but that's meta knowing how things with him and the Creature turn out)

Elizabeth becomes his mother's corpse as she dies = again the preoccupation with his mother. One of his stated goals was to eventually master bringing back the dead, and he embarked on this study not long after her death, so the link there feels pretty easy to make for me. After his 'failure' to make the beautiful human he imagined this now seems out of his reach too, and he's still grieving.

He wakes up shuddering and then Creature is looming over him... it all ties in much more to his feelings about what he has just done than his feelings about/for Elizabeth, in my eyes. The happy impulse doesn't read to me like genuine romantic feelings but more just the idea of a happier reality (the one his mother longed for).

I mean, Frankenstein is definitely not a romance, but neither are Dracula and Les Miserables. But they feature a romantic relationship, whereas in my opinion the role of Elizabeth and Victor's relationship is much more bound up in ideals and expectations and familial love than anything romantic.

To me) that I got at a craft fair, for reference! Something I Barely wear/honestly save for special occasions bc 1) the Collar I did not factor in The Collar BUT. I FIXED THIS. WITH SAFETY PINS. Honestly I don't know why I didn't think to do that sooner. And 2) It's... incredibly difficult to pair w my usual jacket. If not impossible.

THIS... CAN CHANGE.... like something I said that I cut out here is The Potential. Of customizing this jacket Intentionally. So that I can layer it in both directions -- worn on top of things ofc but FOCALLY. Easy to wear Underneath something.

IDK IDK I'M JUST SOOOOOO PICKY ABOUT MATERIAL AND HOW THINGS FIT so it's like INSANELY COOL. That I scored something Like This that fits Perfectly to my preferences AND is really good material ESP when I've been wanting to start a new punk jacket For Forever...... again, with more intention this time! I don't have any clear plans or ideas. But I am thinking about The Purpose of it, what I Want from it, and exactly How I want it. And going from there!
