Splints and April are easily my favorite duo. She is definitely his favorite. My man needed a daughter in his life. April is like the in-law he never thought he'd get but there's no way he'll let go now. That is HIS DAUGHTER now!

Cooking, cleaning, self-care, watching novelas. They do it all together.

This is exactly why i take it as canon whenever fics go "Oh yeah, Splinter isn't home because its Friday and he's over at April's." Like, you can be damn sure that my man, has one of the days of the week solely reserved to spend it with April. And it is LAW.

If his sons call him it better be because the world is ending or someone's been kidnapped.

In the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003 episode "The Ultimate Ninja" there's a bit where Splinter is in total joy over how good his fur feels because April lent him her brush and shampoo.

We need more of this. We need more of Splinter and April bonding over hair-care.

Leo

·         Love love loves to carry you over rooftops and sit on high points to look over the city with you. This is one of his ways to calm down and think about things without his brothers’ around to stress him out, and having you there some nights, looking at the glitter of the lights – poetry for his heart

·         Speaking of poetry – you guys will have contests for who can make the worst poems. Just something to pass off to each other between visits, something you find in your bag or in his bed sheets. Cheesy, unrhythmic, stupid, whatever. You guys have cried laughing before b/c of this. However, every once in a while he’ll slap you with a real intimate and loving poem that just makes you melt.

·         You’ve started trying to sneak up on him. It doesn’t work. He still lets you do it, just so he can turn around and grab you at the last second. Sometimes he throws you on the nearest soft surface, sometimes he gives you a big kiss, sometimes he just starts carrying you around like a sack of potatoes – depends on his mood honestly. Your determination to spook him is cute.

·         Watching or listening to True Crime stuff becomes a quick couple’s hobby for you guys. Usually it’s playing in the background as you each do chores or work on some project, but you’ll each talk about the case throughout. You’ve hit him more than once for giving away what happened or who killed who. He’s too good at figuring this kind of stuff out!

·         He loves when you sit with him when he meditates. Even if you aren’t the meditating type, if you just sit quietly by him or read, he already feels much calmer. If he’s practicing balancing moves, he’ll sometimes grab you to hoist you up in the air, “to practice strength” at the same time. You’ve learned it’s a very bad idea to squirm when he’s got you planking above his head; he will start tickling you if you don’t keep still.

Raph

·         Once he gets a good enough disguise, he loves to ride around on his newly built motorcycle with you on the city streets. It’s fun to zip through cars and people and drive out to the sparser points of the city to watch ships come in and out of the bay or go to a park outside the city to watch the lights as they all turn on at dusk.

·         Loooovvess having movie nights with you. Seriously asks for it every week. You two get comfy on the couch with like 3 blankets thrown over your laps and watch something like Jurassic Park or Mad Max and gorge on buttery popcorn and chocolate. Sometimes you’ll slip in a chick flick like Pride and Prejudice. He acts like he doesn’t like it, but you’ve caught a goofy, happy smile on him more than once at the end of the movie, and then he starts lifting your hand like Mr. Darcy and adopting more “romantic” actions and it’s just *chef’s kiss*

·         You guys will spar together. It’s kinda required once you date him; he wants you to be able to kick butt if he can’t get to you fast enough. But these sessions usually end up with you and him wrestling/tickling each other and him holding you down with a foot while he lifts weights. Get comfy princess, he ain’t moving that foot ‘til he get 100 reps.

·         He has a really good eye for fashion and makeup. He’s actually the one that sews together all of his family’s clothes, as much as possible with the scraps they find around. It’s calming to make something instead of the stigma he has of destroying stuff. He’s the first person you SnapChat with an outfit just to make sure it looks good, and he sends back honest feedback, like “why do you still have that scarf, you know it doesn’t match anything in your closet,” or ��try the red sweater with that long gold necklace you have.” Everyone compliments your outfits so much because of his input

·         Likes to go swimming with you. There’s a few clear, clean pools in the sewers (Donnie approved) where you guys go just to have a good swim. There’s usually some candles lit and music playing. More often than not, you’ll end up laying on his chest while he floats on the surface and just enjoy each other’s company. At least until he gets the idea to dunk you.

Donnie

·         Sneaking into the rafters of Broadway is a regular event for you guys. He manages to disable any security they have up around your “spot,” and you get a free show with your favorite person. He’ll be quoting his favorite lines for days after, all the while talking about the next show to see. He’d so be a theater kid if he had the chance.

·         One of the main things that got you guys together in the first place was you helping him put together tech he’s working on. It still continues now, since you have a steady hand and a willing ear to listen to his theories and ideas. You’ve even inspired him a few times with your comments! It’s a casual bonding activity for you both, and he values your thoughts.

·         Spontaneous dances are a must. Sometimes he’ll grab you and dance around the room – especially if an experiment of his goes well – sometimes it’ll be goofy dances to see how badly you two can embarrass anyone looking, and other times, you guys will just slow dance before you leave, just as a way to be close before having to part.

·         You guys form your own little potted plant collection in the lair. It’s both a hobby, and a way for you to check on how he’s doing. If he’s doing well, the plants are watered and taken care of. If he’s getting sucked into things and forgetting to care for himself, the plants suffer. He tries to get an auto-watering system for them, but you shut that down quick. It’s good to do some things yourself rather than rely on technology!

·         Cupcake Saturdays are a thing. He’ll take you to a bakery, where you’ll go in and get a box of cupcakes (extra frosting). You guys will then just chow down on them on the rooftop, often with him licking a lot of the frosting off the cupcakes before eating the actual “cake” part.

Mikey

·         Such a fan of trying every new restaurant you can find in NYC. It’s become a date-night tradition every Thursday to either order or pick up some hole-in-the-wall place’s food, meet up somewhere, and Gordon Ramsay the crap out of the food. He does a mean Ramsay impression, and you’ve snorted more than one ramen noodle out of your nose from laughing so hard.

·         If you aren’t a fan of video games, you will be once you date this guy. It’s not even just watching or playing video games with him, he’s just funny when he plays! He’ll make the most stupid comments about something going on in the storyline, or mess around, even glitch out a game. He’s managed to get out of the maps of Among Us more than once. You’re convinced if he started his own YouTube gaming channel, he’d be a quick star.

·         Game nights are a must for you guys. It usually turns into a family game night with you, the turtles, Splinter, April and Casey, which Mikey just adores because he gets to see everyone he loves having fun. You two will usually team up against the others, or turn on each other to stab the other in the back. Uno and Cover Your Assets have made you guys question your loyalty to each other more than once. That Uno Reverse card, man…

·         Arts and crafts are his favorite. Anytime a holiday is coming up, Mikey gets hyped ‘cause he knows you guys are gonna start making decorations for it. You guys will usually make decorations for each other. Mikey loves this, just because he feels like a normal person by having actual Halloween decorations around the lair instead of stuff he and his bros scraped together off the streets.

·         Loves to stargaze with you in the summer time. He’ll convince Donnie to let him drive the truck out of the city to the countryside of New York, bring you with him, and set up on the roof of the truck in the middle of a field (that he totally didn’t crash through a wood fence to get to). Fireflies will fly over your faces, and he’ll joke that they’re shooting stars and make a thousand and one wishes on each of them. He won’t tell you that all of those wishes are for you and him to be together forever, but it’s not hard to guess with how mushy he gets after each one.

Turtle Dreams

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #41 NOVEMBER 1991 BY MATT HOWARTH

SYNOPSIS (FROM TURTLEPEDIA)

The issue opens with Leonardo dreaming of being a teenager in a high school populated by other mutant turtles. Leo is a popular athletic kid, but he's not doing so well in class because he finds math boring. As Leo drifts off into a daydream about surfing, the teacher rudely interrupts his fantasy and demands to know the answer to a difficult problem on the blackboard. Leonardo decides that he doesn't have to put up with this sort of thing, as it's his dream and he can do what he wants.

The teacher then morphs into a gigantic lobster-like monster and attacks Leo. After a short skirmish, Leonardo vanquishes his foe and returns to his seat, happy and consoled that the substitute teacher will be much easier to deal with... but as it turns out, the substitute is a Tyrannosaurus.

Raph has fallen asleep reading "Those Annoying Post Brothers" comic books (the series that guest artist Matt Howarth was doing at the time that this issue was published). Raphael's dream takes him to a world populated by dozens of various alien life forms. Raph quickly spots the annoying Post Brothers and is star struck, as they're his favorite villains. Raph then tells the infamous duo that he plans to punish them for all of their misdeeds and a fight breaks out... and continues... and goes on... and on... and on...

On the last panel we see a smiling Raphael, content in his battle frenzied dream.

Donatello is sleeping on the couch after eating an entire bag of chocolate-chip cheese cookies. In Don's nightmare, the Feds have captured the TMNT and subjected them to all kinds of nefarious tests and tortures. As the Turtles endure their treatment, the top secret government file regarding them is stolen and sold to a Hollywood producer, who decides to exploit the TMNT for his own commercial gain via a cartoon and toys.

The cartoon and toys became a huge hit, but the Turtles, still captives of the government, knew nothing of the events. Eventually the Green Team is set free when the branch investigating them is shut down due to lack of funding. Thus the guys are able to return to their lair and fight crime like they once did. However, now that the success of the cartoon and toys has made them celebrities, they're constantly surrounded by adoring fans and can no longer battle evil. Don seeks Splinter's advice, but the sage old rat has no answers... thus the TMNT become prisoners of their own fame and lay around watching TV all day, getting lazy and fat.

Donatello wakes up screaming, "Teenage Couch Potato Turtles! What a scary dream!"

Master Splinter is meditating and allows himself to dream of visiting an expensive restaurant. The Sensei is sharing a table with celebrities Akira Kagemusha, Albert Einstein and Alfred Hitchcock, discussing existential philosophy.

Mike has fallen asleep listening to his Walkman and dreams of being a Rock 'n' Roll star. During his concert, he is attacked by Dr. Vox and his cronies, who hate Rock music and want to see it abolished. Mikey battles them to no avail, but he's saved when his fans race to the voting booths to silence the protests of the censorship minded Dr. Vox.

REVIEW

The one thing this story got right, was the teenage nature of the turtles. All their dreams make sense for their personality, although some of them make more sense than others.

I feel like Leo and Raph have the most accurate dreams for their personalities. Mike’s dream, is right by the process of elimination (Raph is a loner and wouldn’t have a rock band, unless you’ve seen the Turtles “coming out of their shells” like me).

Still, I think the topics are ok for these characters, and as usual, the guest artist gets to promote his own material (Those Annoying Post Bros).

I give the issue a score of 7.

My Review On Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2018 Reboot - The First Episode

Before I get started on anything, I would like to say I loved TMNT 2012, and when I saw this back when it was first announced I was immediately like “nope fuck that”. But after some people helped point out to me the potential that can come out of this new show I told myself I would try to watch the new one and see what it can be. So the following is my full review written in a pros and cons format, to keep things simple and to give each side a fair chance.

WARNING: SPOILERS!

PROS

-Raph has kept his love of animals from the TMNT 2012, which I really appreciate 

-Mikey and April are actually really useful in this series, unlike TMNT 2012 when they were shown as fairly clumsy fools that weren’t really useful for the team other than a few episodes

-The mutagen is actually in mosquito bugs, which is something I’ve never seen before in the TMNT universe and it’s actually pretty interesting

-The voice acting is strangely bad but in a good way, like they’re constantly being sarcastic but it’s a good kind of sarcastic

-The animation was pretty damn good not gonna lie, it actually gives me a lot of nostalgia because of the classic flash animation look

-I really like how they have strange new mutant weapons now, except for Donnie because he’s the one that actually already has a technology advanced weapon

CONS

- I feel like all of the good character traits were given to Raph. He’s the one that plans everything out, is nervous and can crack under pressure, and is the leader. Meanwhile Donnie is the one that has all of the weird cool technology, Mikey is just strangely useful for the plot at times, and Leo is basically the new Mikey with the jokes and is basically the comedic relief 

-I think the Shredder is now strangely trying to get the turtles to work for him and isn’t actually called Shredder anymore??? Like what??? And he’s the one that controls and makes the mutagen now???? Like what???

-I’m kind of split on the jokes. Like honestly they feel kinda Tumblr worthy in some parts but other parts feel strange and forced

-Donnie and Leo seems to have really downgraded from their character potiental due to Mikey and Raph and April stepping up

-Splinter is a couch potato grandpa now like what the fuck

-The turtles don’t even know they’re mutants. You know, the giant walking teenage mutant ninja turtles. They don’t even realized they were mutated. Yeah that makes sense.

-In TMNT 2012 you get to see how they meet April and slowly develop and adapt up in New York. Here they just kind of launch right in and say that April is a long time friend and such and that’s a shame because I would have loved to see how they all met and such

-MY OVERALL REVIEW AND THOUGHTS-

I’m still kinda annoyed that Leo and Donnie have just mainly become ‘the sarcastic funny ones’ while Mikey and Raph and April actually have some sense. One big thing is that all four of the turtles each had special character traits, but here they’re all mixed up and kind of hard to tell which one is supposed to be which other than the different character designs themselves. One big thing I noticed that people have always hated about the turtles is that they’re all too similar and you can only tell them apart by their weapons, however they all had nice and relatable different character traits, which helped tell them apart by writing and how they talked. But here it’s pretty much the opposite, and I don’t really like that at all. They’re all pretty much the same person character wise, except Raph who has become strangely superior. 

However I will say that the animation is still very good and it has some strangely creative new and fresh ideas for the TMNT universe, which I can still love and appreciate. 

So really there’s a lot of pros and cons to this series, and I don’t know which out weighs which tbh...so will I watch this series in the future? I don’t think I’m willing to watch each every single new episode when it comes out, however if people start getting hyped up about something in the series in the future and tell me it’s actually really good now or something, then I’d be willing to watch it in the future. For now, I’d say the first episode is worth watching just so you can judge if you like it yourself but overall not worth seeing the whole series.

Becoming Real: Family Get-Together

In this installment, Diana and Michael host Christmas together for both of their families, meaning Spencer, Luke, JJ and Will spend the holidays together. Henry and Alaina come too! Spencer and Luke couldn’t help themselves, watching Diana and Michael in their kitchen. It was them, but 20 years earlier. Diana was Luke, taking charge in the kitchen and knowing exactly what she was doing, and Michael was Spencer, being pointed in the right direction and only being given the easiest of recipes for fear he’d fuck it up. “Michael, you do the salad, I’ve got this.” She placed all of the necessary ingredients in front of him, making it very easy for him to put together.

“Di, I’m sure I can handle something else,” he said exasperatedly, flipping off his Uncle as Spencer laughed uncontrollably. “What are you laughing at?” he chuckled.

Spencer couldn’t stop snorting, so Luke had to answer for him. “He’s laughing because this is exactly what we do in the kitchen. Diana is me and you are him. It’s uncanny.”

“Yea, Daddy was always hopeless in the kitchen,” Diana laughed. Spencer gave a nod. It was one of the few things he could admit to not being good at. “And Michael, do you remember the last time I asked you to help me with mashed potatoes?”

Michael’s face fell. “Yea...”

“What happened?”

“It turned into one giant lump of potato because I didn’t add enough water or milk, or whatever the fuck you’re supposed to use!” he yelled. When Spencer burst into another laughing fit, Michael grabbed the nearest soft object, which happened to be a pillow and threw it at Spencer’s head. 

Over the next hour, Michael fixed the salad, Diana made the mashed potatoes for fear of having one giant lump again, Michael did the vegetables and Diana prepared prime rib. Then they had little extras here and there, but they were all fairly simple to put together, so once everything was done, she got changed into a nicer outfit and the four of them awaited the rest of Michael’s family. Considering the two youngest knew they were in it for the long haul, they asked if their families would do Christmas together, and honestly, after being friends for so long, Spencer and JJ wondered how it hadn’t happened earlier.

JJ, Will, Henry and Alaina, who were getting married in less than six weeks, would be coming. They’d exchanged gifts and then later, Henry and Alaina would go for dessert at her family’s house.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

Spencer went and opened the door, giving JJ and Will giant hugs before doing the same to Henry and his fiancee. “So, Di?” Henry asked. “Did Michael manage to fuck up the mashed potatoes again?”

“You told Henry about the mashed potatoes?!” Michael cried out. “Come on!” JJ and Will brought their hands up to their faces to stifle the laughs. Neither of her boys were great cooks, but JJ knew Michael was worse than Henry in that regard.

She pointed back toward Will. “You get your cooking skills from him.”

“Henry, no is the answer to your question,” Diana laughed. “I handled the mashed potatoes and the prime rib, he did vegetables and salad. That’s all I could trust him with.” When he started to pout, she leaned into him and kissed him not he cheek. “Love you.”

After dinner, JJ nearly collapsed into Will’s shoulder. “I’ll be right back,” she said, taking her bag. Upon her return, Diana cackled.

“You brought stretchy pants?”

JJ nodded. “I need to be comfortable.” 

“I think I’m gonna copy that,” she laughed, running into her room to put on pajamas. “Alaina I have pajamas you can wear?”

“Really!?” Henry was almost knocked out of the chair with how quickly she ran inside for pajamas. Michael hadn’t even bothered getting dressed, so he was already comfortable when they were all ready to exchange presents.

Since each family had exchanged with each other that morning, it was all about exchanging with the other. Diana got Henry and Alaina a collage of pictures from their engagement put onto canvas with their wedding date on it. Alaina cried. “Hey Mikey,” Henry said, pointing to Diana. “Don’t fuck this up.”

“Thanks, Henry,” he laughed. Then Luke, Spencer and Diana had chipped in for this amazing leather jacket that JJ would love, and for Will, they got a bottle of his favorite Southern whiskey. 

“Here you go,” Alaina said, handing over a small package that she and Henry had bought together.

As she opened it, the tissue paper falling to the sides, a rose gold bracelet emerged. It looked almost like a chain with a plate where she could eventually engrave whatever she wanted. “Oh my god, this is beautiful.” She gave both of them a hug and then went back to sit in Michael’s lap as she opened the gift from his parents. It was on the bigger side and flat, and when she looked at Michael, he didn’t even know what it was. 

“It’s actually for all three of you,” Will said. “We weren’t sure what you’d like because let’s face it we don’t really need anything, but we thought this would be nice.”

When Diana finally peeled the wrapping paper back, she saw a beautifully etched drawing of Roxy, sitting on her favorite pillow. It was a picture Diana had taken years ago, and someone drew it. Luke got all choked up, barely getting out a thank you. “It’s amazing,” Diana sobbed. “It’s gonna go right up there.” There was an archway that never had anything hanging in it because they could never figure out what to put there, but this would be perfect. 

After JJ gave Reid an extra little something, a crazy tie to add to his collection, Diana insisted it was movie time. “I vote Elf!” Michael said. He was quickly seconded by Alaina and Henry, who wouldn’t be able to stay for the whole thing anyway, and JJ, Will, Spencer and Luke couldn’t care less. All they wanted was for everyone to have a nice night. 

Diana put on the movie and the resumed her place in Michael’s lap, only getting up once more to say goodbye and thank you to Henry and Alaina. “Thank you so much. Merry Christmas.”

“Merry Christmas.”

After they left, Diana turned to see that JJ and Will had already fallen asleep on the couch, and her dads weren’t far behind in the armchair they’d been sharing. Nothing could’ve been better on a Christmas night than falling asleep to a classic Christmas movie with the people she loved. Thank god they still had weeks of vacation left, because she never wanted to move from this moment.
