Somewhat bothered by the responses in this reddit page. (For context: link is to a page in /r/biology, where OP posted a diagram of human evolution going from a prokaryote to Homo sapiens in many discrete steps.) To be sure, there are significant inaccuracies in that diagram. The flatworm definitely does not belong there (though I suppose you could use it as a rough approximation for the primordial Bilaterian), nor does Dickinsonia, and worst of all is the Cyanobacterium (which you can't even defend as a representative of our prokaryote ancestor, since there is another one helpfully labeled "prokaryote").
Most of the responses are not about that, though. Most of them are mentioning the inaccuracy of depicting evolution as a linear process ending with Homo sapiens, instead of one constantly branching and spawning new variations over time. Which would be a fair criticism if the image claimed to be a representation of evolution as a whole, but... it's literally titled "Human Evolution". Of course it follows a single line from the origin of life to Homo sapiens! It makes no sense to complain that it does not show parallel branches leading to other modern species; you might as well complain that a map of France is inaccurate because it neglects to include Japan. Drawing my own family tree is not a claim that the whole of human history culminates in my own birth.
(Maybe I'm oversensitive here because I've made a diagram of the same type myself, and I'm quite satisfied of it.)
Particularly curious is that comment that calls OP's image "dangerous", because it could lead to the misunderstandings above described is one were to completely fail to understand its point. I wonder if the same person would claim that 2d world maps are dangerous misinformation because someone might conclude from them that Earth is flat and rectangular.
I can't help but have a very uncharitable thought. Few people mention the actual factual inaccuracies in the chart because that requires specific knowledge that most people, even most users of /r/biology, do not have. But plenty of people jump at the opportunity of saying "evolution is not linear", "humankind is not the endpoint of evolution", "we don't descend from monkeys we share a common ancestor with them" not because they have understood these statements and know their relevance to the case, but because they have memorized these tidbits as the sort of things you are supposed to say about evolution to show that you are not one of those contemptible Science Deniers, while not requiring you to learn any more actual biology than the average creationist.
I dearly hope that I'm wrong.

so uh, with the whole Ren and Doc thing with them being canonically married apparently, does that make Doc a prince? 'cause Ren was a king on 2 seperate occasions.

Alright
Tumblr media
Fang can use his helmet as a crowbar YEAH CARROT BOI USE THAT TO PIERCE YOUR ENEMIES HEADS!! I KNOW THAT MAY NOT BE PRACTICAL IN SMALL SPACES BUT CHARGE IN LIKE THE RHINOCEROS BEETLE YOU ARE
I love how Yaya is a ladybug and Ying is a bee, and i recently find out Boi is an ant
Dont know what type of ant but the most orange one i can think of is Fire ants, theyre small and orange and have painful bites, so maybe thats the reason
Edit: ihave begun trying to research ants, and he might be an asian weaver ant or maybe electric ant or idk
i figured out the reason why Kuputeri and Maripos felt off to me, is cuz they have more realistic noses and i genuinely did not expect Maripos to look like that, he actually looks older(he lost his feminity guys 😔)
Boi's figure seems weird to me if you match it up with the size of his head
He has bulky arms, that are normal size but then his waist is very small
Gopal might be a coconut rhinoceros beetle
And fang is a hercules i think
Why r people hating on this tho-? Windara is based of bugs, the most bug features in the arc was the antagonists, the most bug features of the protagonists/citizens were the antennas
I think id still be cool to have more non human features unto the protagonists(exclude baraju)
I would like to see how they go through with this like Sori
I, too, have some personal gripes and opinions on the show that i might share one day, but i wont be particularly one sided bc some people could become ridiculous with their takes on every side
Either way, id want to see this through

Ok so I was thinking of a Skylanders OC that I’m working on (lore wise) when I thought that..

Kaos’s family mark looks eerily similar to an angel, more so biblically accurate wise maybe. The triangle on the bottom is the legs, two triangles on the sides are wings(or arm, top, and wings, bottom)and the one on top is the head.
Then again I may be looking to deep into this as I do.

Did you pick the bunny aesthetic yourself? What made you think of it for battle?
Great question! There's a little bit of a story to it, I suppose. When I was younger, my Grandpa gifted me a little rabbit plushie. They've always been my favourite animal! That's mostly where my outfit comes from. For battle, I chose to make Baron Bunny with Klee's help because I thought monsters might be attracted to its cuteness, and it worked great. The only downside is that I have to make new ones all the time, haha!

do you know anything about Korea culture?
I don’t know a lot about Korean culture, but I do love Korean foods like kimchi and Tteok-bokki … also Korean snacks and banana milk hehe (can you tell I’m a sucker for good food)
The little I do know about their culture is that they’re very respectful individuals and their family values are really important to them. Also I think education is highly valued.
I also love how pretty Hanbok look :)
But that’s about as much as I know 😅

Been reading a couple books on Ancient Egyptian history (Temples, Tombs, and Hieroglyphs by Barbara Mertz and The Mind of Egypt by Jan Assmann), and I’m struck by two things:
For being a Bronze Age kingdom ruled by literal god-kings, Ancient Egypt looks surprisingly nice. Sure, they had their share of dispotism, chauvinism, and imperial warfare, but I haven’t found anything like Assyrian brutality on prisoners, Roman blood sports, Greek slave economy and rampant misogyny, or Aztec mass human sacrifices. For the standards of antiquity (which are very low to us), it seems an actually pretty decent place to have lived as a commoner.
The development of culture and worldview looks so strangely like a coherent arc. First there’s Ancient Kingdom pharaohs, who look so aloof and self-sufficient in their divinity. Then the kingdom collapses in rebellion and civil war, teaching the rulers of Egypt that they have responsibilities towards their people; Middle Kingdom pharaohs care a lot more about justifying their position with philosophy and theology. That era collapses too, with an invasion and occupation that teaches them that the rest of the world exists, too; and the New Kingdom is defined by imperial engagement with the great powers of Asia. Eventually the state model of the Bronze Age becomes unsustainable and Egypt fades into a province of distant empires, ruled by fatalism and detachment. This honestly sounds like the kind of satisfying storytelling that one should be most skeptical about in history; I wonder how much this understanding is due to scarcity of records, pareidolia, and my own ignorance, and in what proportion.
