rewatched horn of plenty last year. i still did not like it. i understand the structure of the episode and how the greedy scenes set up the plot but i wish there was some other way because the characterization and treatment of greedy is still so irritating to me

the thing is i can only see 'greedy eats all the food he had stored away while everyone else starves' working is like. if he was incredibly guilty about it. or he's like working against the urge to eat it. this plot is not like gormandizing greedy where his hoarding only serves as him ignoring a diet. he eats all the smurfberries in the storage house in gormandizing but they could always get more berries. there was not a shortage. this episode he has to be completely aware everyone else is starving and that's why smurfette got so mad at him. and due to the "lesson" of the episode, it's like he has never shared food in his life.

the thing that always frustrated me about this was that like. he has a lack of self-control but he also has a conscience. in similar instances he apologizes, he feels guilty. here? whether it's due to how it's paced or whatnot, all we get is smurfette saying he should be ashamed and that he's greedy and he's just like "i guess it comes naturally". greedy's slight complexity as a character is that balance between greedy and self-less. he eats a lot of his own sweets but at the end of the day he still makes food for every smurf. the later seasons have a notable amount of those "i made a bunch of something but 90% of it is for me" gags. i shrugged those off they're not like super irritating but here it just Is. greedy could be a completely selfish and aloof character but he is not. that is what sets this character apart from other iterations.

there's barely a lesson at all, it's just "wow! what a horrible, shameful thing to do!" and greedy going "well, i'm greedy!" and the insistence "wow, that guy sure is greedy!" then smurfette going "takes one to know one" and at the end he's like "i know how to share now" lesson learned, episode over. it kinda just feels like nothing to me. it's not particularly funny or anything either

he’s pretty much a combination of Weather Smurf & Weepy Smurf but i didn’t know about them when i made him shhh

Rainy absolutely loves all types of water, but he especially loves the rain! if it’s raining you’ll definitely see him outside. but due to his love for rain, he’s been swept up in storms more than once…

Rainy gets emotional easily. He’ll tear up if he’s extremely happy, but he’ll get upset easily at small things. because of this, he hates being sad.

he’s friends with Clumsy, Dreamy, Greedy, and Lazy. he admires Vanity and has a crush on him.

his voice claim is Casper the Friendly Ghost (specifically Norma MacMillan).

he’s often shy and anxious, especially in crowds, so he’s more likely to talk to smurfs one on one.

if it’s a hot day, he’ll be in the water alllll day.

he gets sad when it hasn’t rained in a while.

i like to imagine Rainy as if he were canon, so here’s some “trivia”!

1. Rainy first appeared as a background character in“King Smurf”. He appears to be absent in the comics.

2. Rainy debut in the 80s series was in “Rain, Rain, Go Away”.

this is a fanmade episode! i have two ideas for what it could be about.

idea 1: A storm approaches Smurf Village. Rainy plays in the rain, despite Papa’s warnings. He ends up getting lost in the storm, leaving the other Smurfs to go looking for him.

idea 2: Rainy’s upset that it hasn’t rained in a long time, leading him to try to make it rain using Papa’s potions.

bonus idea! (A Day Without Tears): Rainy gets self conscious about how often he cries, so he tries his best to not cry for the entire day. This leads to him breaking down in the middle of the village.

3. Rainy was completely absent in the live action movies. He was a background character in The Lost Village, then fully came back in the 2021 series. He was also a background character in Smurfs (2025).

4. Rainy was in a lot of background scenes in “Smurf Me No Flowers”. He can be seen crying in all these scenes.

5. Rainy was replaced by Weepy in the later seasons of the 1981 show.

6. Ever since The Lost Village, Rainy’s outfit changed to him always wearing a raincoat, which now includes a hood.

7. Rainy was originally going to be the main character in The Smurfs Appearance instead of Clumsy.

8. Whenever Gargamel catches him, he’ll cry from fear.
