On the October 21, 1954 episode of Climax! an adaption of " Casino Royale" aired. Not only was it the first of the three adaptations of the Ian Fleming novel, but the first time his character James Bond appeared on film. Oddly enough, Bond was portrayed as being American, Felix was changed to Clarence Leiter and a Brit, and Mathis and Vesper Lynd were combined into Valerie Mathis. Le Chiffre was relatively unchanged and played by Peter Lorre. While the testicle mutilation scene was absent, it did contain a very effective torture scene, especially considering it aired on network TV in the 50's. ("Casino Royale" Climax!, TV, event)
