Finally knitted Halloween socks that I've been meaning to knit since I bought this yarn last year!
The yarn is from "SavannahRoseHandmade" from the 90s Halloween Collection (sold out now UGH [understandable, but UGH]) and is visually inspired by the movie Scream (1996). I saw the colour pooling effect on their sample swatch when they shared the yarn collection images on Reddit last year, and was immediately like, 'Holy shit it's just like CRT TV static!!' And I had to get it. (And then life happened and I didn't get around to knitting them until now lol).
And unfortunately, I'm SO IN LOVE WITH IT!! THE EFFECT DID TRANSLATE TO SOCKS AND NOW IT'S LIKE, AHHH I NEED MORE. I don't know if I have enough yarn left to make an additional pair, so I'll have to figure out how to weigh it and the socks and see if the weight compares (really don't wanna end up with 3 socks and not enough for the 4th lol). But yeah. I'm so glad I got to do this. The yarn colouration was SO fun to work with, and the yarn was a nice and smooth 1-ply which was a huge relief from the fluffy yarn on the socks I'd been working on just before this. And yes, I did intentionally take this photo in front of those books because of the spiral-ish pooling.
Can I just also... like... holy fuck, man. I LOVE when yarn pools into unique patterns. It's the best phenomenon ever. And especially like for this one being black and white? That subtle grey transition from stark white to pitch black is EVERYTHING. Like I never would have thought one could create yarn that would pool EXACTLY like TV static rolling down the screen when knit. Major nostalgia vibes. I can feel the forcefield.
Also, started these babies September 27 and finished the second sock today October 3rd, which may be a new record for me knitting socks, I was so fucking excited. I even have a big ole 'writers bump' on my finger from the way I hold my knitting needles lmao (was also knitting a different pair of socks before this, too), and my arthritis is Not happy, but screw you, arthritis! I'M HAPPY.
Side note: it would be cool to pair this yarn with like a red addition somehow. Get a Saw vibe going bc of the TV static pooling effect. (I do love Scream though.) Or you could even probably take it a The Ring route with like a fly applique or something. So many horror movie staples with TV static effect, and not enough Scream yarn to test them out!!
Bonus image when the socks were a WIP:
I had my new tooth and doll eye stitch markers going. I DO have bloody murder weapon stitch markers, but none of them are a buck knife (Ghostface's weapon), so I went for general Halloween vibes instead (even tho I use stitch markers like this year-round lol).
#seriously tho im gonna have to weigh the leftovers bc i want more of these socks#just feeling by hand it MAY be enough. but if i knit 1.5 more socks and run out im gonna fucking eat them in rage lol#would hate to have to frog 1.5 socks#halloween#horror#scream 1996#90s#savannahrosehandmade#knitting#nostalgia#horror movies#vhs aesthetic#merino wool#yarn#90s horror#90s kid#fashion#Cori.exe#Image.exe#Create.exe#tbh like i can PROBABLY ask the yarn dyer for a custom order of more of this but i dont have the money to buy it in bulk#so. if i had the money to spend id at least ask but i dont wanna waste their time when id only want like 1 or 2 more#would be awesome if i could afford a whole sweaters worth of yarn in this but i dont think it would pool the same on a sweater#i mean maybe it would idk ive never actually knit a whole sweater before idk how long the colour changes need to be#i forgot to take pics of the yarn when it was a hank still lol but the dyer has pics on their site still#ill try n post my socks elsewhere later bc this is seriously so cool like im so glad they turned out#i was iffy as i was knitting the cuffs like 'oh no its gonna spiral too close together and just look heathered'#but once i started doing the heel i was like 'oh thank god its doing the pooling now' lol. side note: watched uzumaki today as i finished#...and also i saw the tv glow since that was also a fitting topic for knitting socks like this

Since it’s gotten really cold here, Richard and I decided to empirically test what all the fuss about Evans’ socks is. Let me tell you, for people who are always cold like me, they’re absolutely amazing. Now I completely understand why he keeps wearing them.
#the sunday confessional#things I’m loving this autumn:#my cat Richard#shaun evans#and as of today merino wool thermal socks

Will be chain plying and then theoretically socks if I've got the thickness right. And I need to learn socks...

I’m not avoiding my 3 spinning and 4 knitting projects!!! I’m not!!!
#I’m just sampling!#honestly!#gotta know how I wanna do my next project.#anyways as much as I enjoy the action of combing fibers#I didn’t like that the Icelandic in particular would separate out tog from them#and I am not spending 100$ on single row combs I would only really want for double fleeces like this#and I do eventually want to experiment with seperated fleeces (just not right now)#I decided I was finally gonna do it#I was finally gonna get reacquainted with my cards#and so far I’m having a decent time!#I think I finally found a technique that works for me#(it’s basically just from Louis Swales’ video ‘how to card like a ghost’)#I’m putting out rolags that umm#ok they don’t look great but they are a decent spinning experience!#and I like how little waste there is#currently in this pic I am spinning some rolags that were rolled off the short end of cards so the fiber is mostly parallel#(been calling them cigar rolags)#and tbh I think I prefer the rolag rolled off the long side#I feel the dual cost fibers mix better#I’m gonna try to spindle spin enough yarn to make a short pair of socks as one of the things I wanted to do was get#a pair of 100% Icelandic wool socks to see how it wears compared to the commercial standard of merino nylon blend#and then I want to spin some Lopi style for a sweater#and if I have any long locks leftover I’ll use that in my current rug project#yarn#handmade#spinning#handspinning#handspun#wool#spindle

Sliming down my foot wear selection.
Foot wear selection, take care of your feet gents.
Sandals for recovery:
Oofos. I wear these 90% of the time I'm not working.
Garrison Work-boots:
Danner Reckonings Winter. (All things Bridgeport ACC, MCCC, WMLC, et cetera.) main garrison boots for North Carolina winters. These are also my to go to rucking boot paired with Fox River Socks and a thin dress sock liner.
Danner Reckonings hot weather. (RTAP/BRC/A&S/ITC/Rucking) these drainage hole covers rarely stay on with heavy use.
Danner USMC Tropical Boot. 52121 R (MCIWS-Course/CFT/O-Course/MAI/Jungle Warfare) I'm still not sure if these are better then my completely destroyed bates lites. These boots are sized differently then other Danner boots, also they tend to fall apart a lot quicker from hard use compared to the reckonings. Tropical boots are faux jungle boots, do not wear these for hiking rough mountainous terrain.
Water work:
Altama OTB shoes. (OTB/finning/VBSS/lifting/skydiving) simply a better version of the Converse Chuck Taylors high tops. Great for OTB & VBSS, decent for finning but not the best. Pretty flat so not great for running or rucking.
Poseidon One Shoe. this is a mix of the Converse Truck Taylors and the Aqua Lung dive boots. and are meant for fining.
Field work:
******Why I prefer non-Gore Tex? Moisture becomes trapped in Gore-Tex shoes, causing blisters and bacteria growth.*******
Oboz sawtooth II Low Non-Bdry version. (VBSS/climbing/very light rucking/CQB/patrolling/skydiving) these are great for gripping and hiking on rocky surfaces.
Lowa Zephyr Mid TF. Currently torture testing these. (VBSS/climbing/light rucking/CQB/patrolling/military freefall). these shoes offer ankle support that my oboz sawtooth II lows don’t have & are light.
Sneakers:
Hoka speedgoat 4. (trail running/asphalt/concrete)
Hoka bondi 6. (road running on asphalt & concrete)
Nike pegasus 38. (Road/track/PFT)
Regular wear:
Nike revolution 6. comfort shoe to deal with my near constant foot pain. these replaced my Adidas.
Reebok Nano. these were made for people with wide feet.
Vans Sk8 Hi skate Notchback Pro shop. (For picking up San Clemente Milfs at Goodies) honestly wore these into the ground; via lifting at EOS & hard skydiving landings at Elsinore.
SOCKS:
Fox Rivers
Darn Tough

I bought another skein of sock wool because the name of it made me have Our Flag Means Death thoughts and let me tell you something....
BEST decision ever!!!
The purple is actually so much darker than it looked online when I bought it and it is so, so soft!! (Merino/Nylon blend) These are going to be the best socks that I now need to have finished before Season 2 is released!

Ok, I lied a little bit on my last post…
I’ve apparently reach the pinnacle of my life when new socks give me joy.
Next up is to rearrange my sock drawer.
PS - the new mirroless Nikkor Z 40mm f/2 lens is nice as well, but that’s for another post.

I am halfway through my first sock! After several failed attempts and general hesitation, i am very proud to announce that i am a good part into the heel already (top down sock)
Celebration galore!!
#own post#knitting#knitblr#sock knitting#i also found merino wool sock yarn which has been the main reason i even started this endeavour#that and the fact that i now know a trick to avoid ladders with a magic loom#i have conquered a lot of seemingly more difficult techniques but so far i had always been bested by the fiddling and by having pointy#needled point at my face all the time. and then by gigantic ladders.#but now i am invincible

Cleaned my desk last night (long overdue) and now there are only two projects on it!
#i have too many crafts#turns out that i can only take mending in small doses#because i quickly get sick of the tedium#(and weaving in ends)#haven't decided whether or not i want to redo the sad mitten#(may throw it in the wash and see what happens#can't go wrong right? it's already too large#suspicious of the yarn's superwash claims...it's merino and i guess i do have a number of superwash merino articles#(socks mainly and a shirt in my childhood home for a hiking base layer)#but it's supposed to be pretty feltable right?#idk. haven't yet learned enough about what is done physically/chemically to make a wool superwash#vaguely aware that stripping the scales tends to be a bad idea so i'm assuming the fibers are coated?#and that would probably have to be post-dye#although...the dyed wool is indigo dyed which involves more physical entrapment and less chemical binding#so it may theoretically not care about superwash processing...

Spent 1h carefully removing the twist from a lopi single because ??? (Just kidding I know why it’s because I want the benifits of a Lopi yarn in 3 ply yarn)
#I just got a book on sock knitting#I used to make so many socks….#but then it became the sweater zone in my house#but I just don’t need that many more sweaters#so now I’m turning back 2 socks#and now I wanna spin for socks because I eventually want to stop buying yarn altogether#but I also don’t have any money for new roving#but all my current wool is merino and alpaca and while they aren’t completely off the table I want to blend them to make them stronger#but!#I don’t have my cards and wont get my mitts on them until I visit my family in Feb#but I do have a ton of lopi in various colors that I got for tapestry weaving#which I do not indulge in enough so I figured spinning them would be atleast doing smth with it#I tried spinning from the ball but it was annoying and I p excited for my current spinning projects#so I figured I can de twist it and let it rest for the ??? amount of time it will take to tackle these other projects#and hopefully it will be more like using a pencil roving#yarn#spinning#handspinning#handmade#handspun#wip#wool#hand made#spindle
