The Truth is Out There
Looking into Plagiarism: Reunification and MrsFizzle-a case of Boy Meets World Plagiarism or not?
Many of the complaints I found on FFN’s community for reporting plagiarism are typical copy/paste/change names stories.
But let’s look at these two points: 1) That is, both imitation (or outright copying) and failure to be truthful about that imitation are necessary attributes to call it plagiarism. 2) it is the lie (of commission or omission) about sourcing that makes it plagiarism.
The story I was most curious about was this claim against a story written by MrsFizzle in the Boy Meets World fandom. I started to reach out to the author who made the claim, Mercedes Aria, to ask about the details she mentioned in her Author’s Notes. Then I read her Tumblr post, Why Am I Blocked: A Tumblr Ask Answered and decided not to.
This is a case that goes beyond plagiarism and into harassment big time.
I started to examine this case by reading the stories in question, however, it will take me some time to do that. While MrsFizzle’s story is relatively short, Mercedes Aria’s series is not. It’s extensive and according to what she’s said on her Tumblr and in ANs, the stolen works span the series. I finished MrsFizzle’s story and have only gotten started on Mercedes Aria’s main story. But the similarities are there and obvious.
Given the length of Autumn in Philadelphia, I’ve been taking breaks to investigate the public claims against MrsFizzle who also goes by Kaylie Night and, according to her FFN profile, is a published author. However, it’s hard to fully investigate the claims since Mercedes Aria, though highly active, is unwilling to share the document detailing her case against MrsFizzle. She says on Tumblr and Reddit that she has been approached by people claiming to want to help her then demand to see the link.
MrsFizzle, on the other hand, appears inactive across all her sites since at least September 2024 except for one site with the last activity being December 12, 2024. As of this writing (January 2025) even her author’s website does not work.
What I can look into raises a lot of questions.
Specifically, the comments she left on Mercedes Aria’s stories. You can look at these comments yourself on Autumn in Philadelphia and Flashbacks (on AO3). MrsFizzle was very into the story and the OC Mercedes Aria wrote, however she also seemed terribly upset that story did not go the way she wanted and proceeded to go into detail about it even though she admitted to not reading the summary or tags and that she shouldn’t leave the comment at all. Mercedes Aria seemed upset to have caused any distress (MrsFizzle claims in her comment that she “cried for three hours. Fell asleep, slept through the night, woke up crying again” over the story not turning out the way she wanted. MA seemed extremely sweet and sincere, and the exchange that went on for a while over a couple of chapters ended agreeably.
I checked MrsFizzle’s Boy Meets World stories and could not find any comments by Mercedes Aria. Because I already see similarities in her story Reunification with Autumn in Philadelphia, I read the comments Reunification had. The comments are what sparked my curiosity because they are so strange.

Mercedes Capsir - Capsir: Variations on a Theme (adapted from Mozart).
Brilliant Spanish coloratura soprano Mercedes Capsir (1895 - 1969) was Rosina in one of the earliest "complete" recordings of Rossini's "Barber of Seville" (made in 1929 and issued on 16 discs at 78 rpm). Instead of singing the aria that Rossini wrote for the Lesson Scene ("Contro un cor"), she interpolated a showpiece by another composer -- HERSELF! A tradition had developed over the previous decades for the diva to substitute one (or two...?) of her favorite display pieces into this scene, often in the theme and variations form. Capsir, however, didn't settle for the common Proch, Adam, Benedict chestnuts -- she created her own vocal arrangement based on a piano work by Mozart: K.354, 12 Variations on a Theme "Je suis Lindor." That original melody was composed by Antoine-Laurent Baudron as a love song for Beaumarchais’ stage play "Le Barbiere de Séville." So, a rather clever selection, Mme. Capsir! Capsir's lyrics are "Un verde praticel pien di bei fiori."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Miss Wolff, the conference starts in 40 minutes." Aria groaned upon hearing her name being called, a sweet reminder of the upcoming press conference ahead of the new season. In her rookie year, all she heard were whispers about how she had secured her place on the Mercedes team because of her father, especially after Lewis retired at the end of 2022. She made no attempt to justify the rumors; she knew her worth and talent. Instead, she let her performance on the track do the talking.
That's how she earned the nickname "Mercedes Princess," a title that garnered both admiration and secret resentment. She didn't mind the attention, though. However, she silenced all the naysayers by finishing 2nd in the Drivers' Championship that same year, surpassing Charles, who landed in 3rd place, almost 70 points behind her. This year, however, she would be driving as the team's first driver, with George as her teammate. She couldn't help but smirk at the thought of posible win this year, of wiping that Red Bull golden boy's smile off his face when she finally overtook him and snatched his dream in Abu Dhabi.
Ever since their karting days, the two could not stand each other. Always trying to beat each other, pushing the other off the track, laughing when the other failed. Still, their whole lives, they were there, growing up together, side by side, watching each other, learning all the little tricks the other liked to pull.
Max envied the girl. She was talented, yes, but besides that, she had everything he didn't: a supportive family behind her, the support and unconditional love Totto provided for his little girl even when she failed, and somehow, wherever she went, everyone loved her instantly. Her looks worked in her favor. Sometimes, when he was alone, he thought of her and wondered if he could be friends with the girl if it weren't for his dad.
Still, she didn't acknowledge any of it, and for his own sake and that of his father, he couldn't either.
Max had to work hard for it all. He never had it easy, with his dad trying to build a champion. He still doesn’t. But he learned to cope with it, mostly. Kelly being there helped a lot. Her love helped a lot. So he locked himself in the peace and security she brought. It was a safe place, with no risks being taken.
But somehow, when it came back to that German devil—and somehow it always did—he was still that little boy looking for approval all over again.
Little Aria did feel some kind of pain seeing him alone on the track in his cart in the pouring rain while she sat in her dad's lap in the warmth, drinking hot chocolate. But as soon as those feelings came, they went away; they had to because he was her rival—competition. She couldn't care for a rival. So she didn't. Or at least, that's what she had convinced herself of all those years ago. Instead, she settled for bickering and teasing, riling the boy up just for fun and challenges.
It surely didn't change over the years.
"Ari, you coming?" George's voice pulled her out of her thoughts as he opened the door of her driver's room. "Yeah. I'll be there in five."
Of course, he had to be there at the same time. Just her luck. And, of course, the only available seat was next to him. He watched her with a smile on his face. Her stomach turned at it, and she was already counting the fees she would likely have to pay if she turned away and walked out. It didn't help that her PR, Elena, was watching her, silently challenging her to do something. And the poor girl already puts up with so much from her.
So, she sat, politely answered all the questions, smiled like the golden girl of the team that she was, and ignored the sweet smell of perfume emanating from her left side. She didn't care. It didn't even smell that good.
"Max, one last question for you," said the reporter, pulling Aria from her thoughts. "What is your opinion on Wolff challenging you for the title this year?" Her head snapped up at the question, and she looked at him questioningly.
And then he laughed. He fucking laughed. "Well, I'm quite confident in the car and the team. Preseason testing went great, so yes, I would say I'm going for the fourth title this year. Time will tell, but yes, I mean, someone has to get silver too. May the best win." And then he looked at her, a smirk plastered on his face.
She saw red. In that exact moment, she came up with ten different ways to kill him and make it look like an accident. But she maintained her stoic façade, not giving any reaction. Instead, she smiled. Softly, cunningly, all while digging the heel of her foot into his under the table. He winced at the contact, glaring at her angrily. She smiled again. The journalists had already begun packing up after the last question to Max, and George also got up and left, but the staring match between the two was still ongoing.
"Du kleine Arschloch!" - she whispered - yelled at him. (you little asshole!)
"You seem to forget that I do speak German, Aria." Her name rolled off his tongue for the first time this year. It surely didn't cause her heart to skip a beat. Not a chance. Not him.
"Well good for you then. You understand that you are an asshole in both of them. You refused to even acknowledge me as the competition!"
"Now, now, don't be so hard on yourself. Second place is a good place to be." He kept smiling at her, provoking her even further. But she, deciding on being mature again, did what any pissed-off mature person would do. She decided to make him crumble and prove him wrong once and for all. She made a silent promise to herself that she would bring him to his knees.
"Okay then. If you're so sure of yourself, Verstappen, we will talk before Bahrain. I do have a proposition for the reigning world champ." A cunning smirk was plastered on her red lips as she looked up at him. Damn the height difference.
"What for?" - asked Max, looking at her sharp features, not allowing his eyes to wander.
"You'll find out when the time is right, Liebchen. I do have some errands to run. Say hi to sweet Kelly for me." Her nails grazed along his arm for a split second before she pulled her hand away.
He lost his previous train of thought. Her touch was brief, almost nonexistent, yet she managed to throw his brain out the window with it.
"Wait, what ar-.." he didn't get to finish his sentence because she had already turned her back on him and started walking.
Max kept staring at her receding form. The girl was a menace, and nobody seemed to notice except for him. Yet, she didn't seem to care about teasing anyone else. Other drivers on the grid adored the girl.
He scoffed and, shaking his head, went to get his things and drive back to the hotel.
-------------------------------------------------------
What Max didn’t expect was a certain someone coming into his dreams that night. As he woke up, sweaty and out of breath, running his hands through his hair, like she had done minutes earlier in his dream, he realized one thing.
He was upmost und uterrly fucked.
And Aria Wolff was the reason, all over again.
Autonomia differenziata spiegata in parole povere.
In Parlamento e' in discussione la legge costituzionale che istituisce autonomia regionale su molte materie, dalla scuola alla sanita', agli ordini professionali fino alla gestione di corpi militari, 23 materie in tutto. Premessa di tutto, assicurare comunque ad ogni regione, livelli essenziali di prestazione, livelli che devono essere garantiti su tutto il territorio nazionale.
Iniziamo con il dire che "essenziale" e' un aggettivo fumoso. Se chiediamo per strada, l'80% delle persone non saprebbe rispondere sul suo significato. Un sinonimo piu' comprensibile: indispensabile. Cosa serve di indispensabile per far funzionare la scuola? Banchi, lavagne e cattedre. Ecco, questo assicura lo Stato. E la sanita'? Letti, lettighe, ambulanze, gli strumenti per interventi chirurgici, per visite specialistiche, e per degenze.
Che succedera'? Le regioni svantaggiate avranno scuole con lavagne in ardesia, palestre con la spalliera e la cavallina di legno come negli anni '70 e i ragazzi scriveranno con penne e calamaio; l'essenziale, appunto. Qualche altra regione avra' lavagne luminose, proiettori a parete, aria condizionata e palestre con attrezzatura tecnologicamente avanzata e i ragazzi studieranno con Ipad e pc portatili.
In alcune regioni si faranno interventi chirurgici con il bisturi e 80 punti di sutura per una semplice appendicite e in qualche regione gli interventi verranno fatti con il laser compiuterizzato in day -hospital.
Vogliamo rendere tutto piu' semplice? Ok! Per andare al lavoro serve l'automobile. Lo Stato assicura il livello essenziale per soddisfare quel bisogno. "Ecco, almeno una bella Fiat Panda". Vedremo cittadini di alcune regione tutti a bordo di Fiat Panda e cittadini di altre regioni a bordo di Mercedes Plug-in hybrid.
Chi non capisce questo, credo capisca niente nemmeno con i disegnini.
"What the hell are you doing showing your face around here?" Her grandma said harshly.
"Who's is i-" Anastasia came over to the door, to see her dad standing there. "What the fuck are you doing here?"
"Can't I come visit my family?"
"No." Her aunt stepped in. "You lost that privilege."
"How did you even find me?" She asked him.
"I pay for your phone, sweetheart." He gave his fakest, widest smile.
Anastasia walked away and she could hear her grandma and aunt cursing him out.
She took the meat hammer and started hitting her phone with it repeatedly.
Stupid. She hit the phone. Stupid. She hit it again. Stupid. And again stupi-
She stopped. The phone was basically in pieces.
Ouch...
She grabbed a plastic bag and put the pieces in. She was really hoping it cut him.
She could still hear the yelling.
She went back to the door and shoved the bag in his hands.
"Take the phone and your stupid Mercedes and get the fuck away from us."
His smile faltered. "What?" He laughed awkwardly.
No one else laughed.
He stopped. "Oh, you're serious."
"Go!" She yelled.
"I just came here to talk."
"Oh yeah, cause you've been really good at using just your words in the past." She spat back.
"Anastasia-"
"No! I am not that scared little girl anymore. I'm not listening to you, or going back with you or getting paid off. You are a worthless man, and I am done with your shit."
"Anastasia do not talk to me like that!"
"Fine." She grabbed the baseball and pushed pass him. "I'll follow by your example."
"Don't you touch my car!" He raced after her.
"Why? Cause it's more important to you than your own daughter?"
He stayed silent.
Anastasia laughed hollowly. "Wow. You can't even lie about it. That's so predictable." She swung the bat, sending it straight through the passengers window.
Her aunt and grandma winced. "That's going to cost a lot." Her aunt muttered.
"Do it again!" Her grandma yelled.
"You- you hit my car!" He hissed.
She swung again, leaving a nasty dent on one of the doors. "Well, you destroy my stuff all the time. I thought you do this to everyone." She said in a fake innocent voice.
Her dad was starting to become red in the face with rage. "After ev-"
"Don't you even start." She said firmly, wiping out the back windshield. "'Everything you did' was the bare fucking minimum! Hell, it was below that!"
"You should be thankful that I-"
"That you what? Fed me? Clothed me? Go ahead, tell me I should be thankful that you looked after the child you made."
"You do not get to treat me with this much disrespect. I am your father."
"You sure treat me like your whore instead." She swung again.
"I told you to mention that in front of the family." He growled.
"Mention what? The times that you locked me outside and I had to sleep in trees? The times where I had to barcade the door when you got drunk so you wouldn't gro-"
He slapped her.
"Mark, get the hell away from her!" Her aunt stormed over, but before she could reach them, Anastasia swung back, punching him square in the nose.
There was a loud crack and he fell to the ground.
"Don't fucking touch me, you bastard!"
By now, all the other neighbours had come out to see what the yelling was about.
Anastasia had to hold by a smirk. His choice was either ruin his reputation by trying to get her back in his control or leave with his reputation and have Anastasia run her mouth and ruin it anyway.
He stared at her, also realising what his options were.
"You better not say anything." He told her, standing up.
"I will tell everyone everything." She said quietly. "If you didn't want it to come out, you wouldn't done it."
"What will shut you up?"
Oh, we're bribing now?
"I'm not being paid off." She reminded him. "Your actions have consequences."
"So do yours." He pointed to the car.
"Do you really think the police are going to care about your car if you've being accused of child abuse?"
He stayed silent for a moment, before walking over to his car.
"Go to hell!"
"See you there, bitch!" She screamed.
He turned around to her. "You have a very special place there, and you deserve it."
"What's the place? Satan's right hand woman? The VIP Package?"
He scowled at her, climbing into his car. Literally. Anastasia had dented the door of badly he couldn't open it.
"You need a baptism." He told her.
"At least a baptism would do something for me."
"You don't deserve me as a father." He fumed.
"I wouldn't wish that upon my greatness enemy." She countered.
He continue to glaring at her in rage, before driving off, telling her once more she belonged in hell.
She turned to her aunt and grandma who were cursing loudly at his car. "I think we're going to need a lawyer."
"We're going to need a lot more than a lawyer, sweetheart. If you're father is one thing, it's a 2 year old in a 38 year old's body."
Pretty Little Liars: reimAgined
1x01 – Chapter One: How It All Started [Part 1]
[CAST] THE LIARS: Alison DiLaurentis, Aria Montgomery, Emily Fields, Hanna Marin, Spencer Hastings SUPPORTING CHARACTERS: Ian Thomas, Melissa Hastings, Mona Vanderwaal RECURRING CHARACTERS: Chassey Bledsoe, Phi Templeton
[SCENE I]
Imagine it’s a few years ago, the summer between your freshman and sophomore year.
You’re bronzed from lying beside your rock-lined pool, lounging in your new Juicy sweats, iPod blasting “Yeah!” by Usher – life is good. You’re eating your Cocoa Krispies, doused in skim milk, and you notice a girl’s face on the side of the carton.
MISSING.
You see the mischievous glint in her eyes and think to yourself, she’s cute – probably cuter than me. You wonder how someone so… well, so much like yourself went missing. How tragic. You’d thought only runaway losers ended up on the sides of milk cartons.
Well, think again.
- - - MAY 2004 - - -
That missing girl? That was me, or rather, Alison DiLaurentis.
Flawless. Perfect. Unbelievable – all words people used to describe me. I could even make dorky mom jeans look like a perfect-fitting pair of Stella McCartneys that nobody could afford. Boys wanted to have me, girls wanted to be me. Nobody could help but fall victim to my charm.
Our story begins on a picturesque cul-de-sac in Rosewood, Pennsylvania, a small, too-perfect town about twenty miles outside of Philadelphia. The skies were blue, the lawns were manicured, and the symmetrical picket fences were perfectly white – a model image of suburbia, right down to the dirty little secrets simmering just beneath the surface.
“You guys!” I called, twirling across my front lawn as my honey-blonde mane flowed in the summer breeze like a shampoo ad.
Aria Montgomery, our resident free spirit, grabbed a stuffed pig from her sweater-knit tote bag and flopped facedown onto the lush grass, mumbling, “Delicious.” Aria was always carrying around weird things – stuffed animals, random pages torn out of old novels, and postcards of places she’d never visited.
Emily Fields climbed out of her mother’s Volvo wagon, pushing the door closed gently as she waved goodbye with a freckled hand. “Are you smelling the grass?” she asked.
Emily had been a competitive swimmer since Tadpole League, and although she looked great in a Speedo, she never wore anything even remotely cute. Her parents insisted that one should build character from the inside out; if you ask me, forcing Emily to hide her ‘IRISH GIRLS DO IT BETTER’ baby tee at the back of her underwear drawer is hardly character-enhancing.
Aria flipped onto her back, blowing her pink-striped hair out of her almond-shaped eyes. “It smells good! Like summer.”
Spencer Hastings slipped through a gap in the hedge separating our properties clutching a field hockey stick, dirty blonde hair slicked back into an athletic ponytail. “What’d I miss?”
Spencer, Spencer, Spencer. She’d been training relentlessly after missing the JV cut last fall – a spot that I’d snagged effortlessly – and we all knew that she’d been running solitary drills before we’d arrived. Spencer hated it when anyone was better at anything than she was.
Especially me.
A shout rang out. Hanna Marin was scrambling out of her mom’s Mercedes, pudgy arms flailing wildly as she shouted, “Wait for me!” As she stumbled over her tote bag, I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. Ever since Hanna’s parents’ divorce, she’d been steadily putting on weight, outgrowing most of her clothes. We pretended not to notice; that’s just what best friends do.
Our group had bonded during the eighth grade, when our parents “voluntold” us to work Saturday afternoons at the Rosewood Day charity drive, except for Spencer, who’d volunteered herself. By now, on the last day of the ninth grade, we were more than just best friends; we were the girls of Rosewood Day, and we’d worked hard to earn that. Every sleepover, every field trip, every steamy note read over the PA system during homeroom – now a Rosewood Day legend – was meticulously planned. We’d made ourselves unforgettable.
But everyone has things they’d rather forget. For us, secrets were like blood oaths. I always told my pretty little liars that sharing secrets would bond our best-friendship for eternity – “That’s what keeps us close.”
“I’m so glad this day is over.” I groaned, gently nudging Spencer back through the hedges. “Your barn. Pronto.”
“I'm so glad the ninth grade is over,” Aria added as Emily and Hanna trailed behind us toward the renovated Hastings barn-turned-guesthouse. Melissa Hastings, Spencer's older, prim and proper, excellent-at-everything older sister, had commandeered the space at the back of the property during her junior and senior years of high school; fortunately for us, she had just graduated and was headed to Prague for the summer, so it was all ours for the night.
From behind us, we heard a voice squeak, “Alison! Hey, Alison! Hey, Spencer!” I glanced over my shoulder, smirked, and muttered “Not It.”
“Not It,” echoed Spencer, Emily and Aria.
Hanna frowned. “Shit.”
‘Not It’ was a game I’d lifted from my brother Jason’s playbook. Jason and his friends would play it at parties when scoping out girls, and the punishment for being the last to call out ‘Not It’ was severe: you had to entertain the ugly girl for the night. It essentially meant that, while everyone else got to hook up with her hot friends, you were just as lame and unattractive as she was.
In my version, we said ‘Not It’ whenever there was anyone uncool, unfortunate, or undesirable in close proximity.
Today’s ‘Not It’ was reserved for ‘Loser Mona’ Vanderwaal – the bespectacled dork from down the street whose favorite pastime was trying to befriend myself and Spencer. She was so lame that she’d hacked into the school’s computer system and then told the principal how to better secure it.
Her two freaky friends, Chassey ‘Pigskin’ Bledsoe and Phi ‘Fo-Fum’ Templeton, weren’t much better, as Chassey was a religious nut that aspired to be a nun, and Phi couldn’t go anywhere without her yo-yo. Need I say more? The unholy trinity stood in the street, staring at us. Mona was perched on her Razor scooter, Chassey was on a black mountain bike, and Phi was on foot – with her yo-yo, naturally.
“Do you guys want to come over and watch Fear Factor?” Mona called, smiling way too brightly. “Ooh, sorry,” I simpered, “we’re kind of busy.”
Phi’s brows furrowed. “Don’t you want to see when they eat the bugs?”
“Gross!” Spencer whispered to Aria, who then started to eat invisible lice off of Hanna’s scalp like a monkey. I tilted my head in faux disappointment. “Yeah, I wish we could, but we’ve had this sleepover planned for a while now. Maybe next time!”
Mona gazed down at the sidewalk. “Yeah, okay.”
“See ya!” I chirped as I opened Spencer’s back gate, rolling my eyes once we were out of view. To our left was my neighboring backyard, where my parents were building a twenty-seat gazebo for their lavish outdoor picnics. “Thank God the workers aren’t here,” I said, eyeing the construction site as we passed. Emily shot me a concerned look. “Have they been saying stuff to you?”
“Easy there, Killer,” I laughed. Sometimes, we’d playfully call Emily ‘Killer,’ because she acted as my own personal pit bull. Emily used to find it funny too, but lately, she hadn’t been laughing along. “They’re just smelly, sweaty, and gross is all.”
The barn was just up ahead – a small, cozy guesthouse with a big window overlooking the Hastings’ lawn. In Rosewood, you were more likely to live in a ten-room farmhouse with a mosaic-tiled pool and hot tub, like Spencer’s house, than in a prefab McMansion. We had acres of lush pines, Colonial estates, and secrets as old as the Main Line itself.
As we neared the barn, the sound of giggles floated from within, followed by a muffled voice squealing, “I said stop it!” Spencer rolled her eyes, groaning, “Oh God, what is she doing here?” She kicked the door with the heel of her shoe to force it open, revealing Melissa and her tasty boyfriend, Ian Thomas, wrestling on the couch. The barn smelled faintly of moss and slightly burned popcorn.
Melissa’s head snapped up. “Spencer, what the fu–” She stopped when she saw us and forced a smile. “Oh, hey guys.” We eyed Spencer. Melissa had a friendly veneer, but Spencer had told us plenty about the venomous super-bitch that hid behind the perfect exterior.
Ian stretched as he stood up, flashing Spencer a lazy grin as he mussed his blonde curls. “Hey.”
Spencer perked up, trying to sound casual. “Hi, Ian! I didn’t know you were here.” Ian smiled flirtatiously. “Sure, you did. You were spying on us.” A patch of red crept up Spencer’s neck. Melissa cleared her throat, eyeing her sister with suspicion as she readjusted her long blonde hair and black silk headband. “So, what’s up?”
“I didn’t mean to interrupt… It’s just…” Spencer stammered, “Well, we were supposed to have this place tonight.” Ian playfully hit Spencer on the arm. “I was just messing with you,” he teased. Spencer beamed in spite of herself.
“You know, Melissa,” I said, eyes twinkling mischievously, as I twisted my signature “A” ring around my pinky. “I’ve never told you this, but I’ve always thought that you and Ian make the cutest couple. Don’t you agree, Spence?”
Spencer’s face paled. “Um…”
Melissa’s eyes narrowed, her scrutinizing gaze meeting mine before finally turning back to Ian. “Can I talk to you outside?” she quipped. Ian shrugged, downed the rest of his Corona, and offered a parting grin. “Adieu, ladies.” He winked and followed Melissa out, shutting the door behind him.
“Another problem solved by Ali D,” I said with a smirk as I crossed to the mini-fridge and grabbed a beer. Ian would never know it was missing. “Aren’t you going to thank me, Spence?” Spencer didn’t answer, for she was too busy looking out the front window. Lightning bugs had begun to light up the sky, and purplish clouds rolled ominously in the distance.
Hanna walked over to the abandoned popcorn bowl and absent-mindedly took a big handful. “Ian is so hot. He’s like, hotter than Sean.” Sean Ackard was one of the cutest guys in our grade, and the subject of Hanna’s constant fantasies.
“You know what I heard?” I asked, nonchalantly sitting down on the couch. “Sean really likes girls who have good appetites.” Hanna brightened. “Really?”
“No.” I snorted.
Hanna dejectedly dropped the handful of popcorn back into the bowl.
“So, girls,” I said. “I know the perfect thing to do tonight to kick off the summer.”
“I hope we’re not streaking again.” Emily giggled. A month prior, the five of us had run through a nearby barren cornfield without a lick on – except for Hanna, who’d refused to strip down to less than her undershirt and day-of-the-week panties.
“I think you liked that a little too much, Em,” I murmured. The smile faded from Emily’s lips. “But no, I have something even better planned. I’ve been saving this for the last day of school: I learned how to hypnotize people.”
“Hypnotize,” Spencer repeated, skeptically.
“Mhm! Iris taught me,” I answered. Iris Taylor was one of the older field hockey girls that I’d been hanging out with, and Jason’s current girlfriend.
The energy in the room wilted, as the other four girls secretly shared the fear that I might replace them with my newer, cooler friend. Hanna, fearing her position the most, piped up, “How do you do it?”
I shrugged. “Sorry, she swore me to secrecy. Wanna see if it works?”
Aria frowned, taking a seat on a lavender floor pillow. “I don’t know…”
I felt a quick surge of rage. “Why not? Scared that you might tell us all your secrets?” My eyes flickered to the stuffed pig resting on her lap. “And why do you still bring that thing everywhere?” I said, pointing at it.
Aria crossed her arms defensively around the pig. “My dad got me Pigtunia in Germany. She advises me on my love life.” The girls giggled.
“Why do you want to carry around something your dad gave you?” I snickered, meanly.
“It’s not funny,” Aria snapped, whipping her head around.
The room went silent, and the girls looked at one another awkwardly. You could cut the tension with a knife, but nobody dared move a muscle. This had been happening a lot lately – I would mention something, someone else got upset, and the rest were too shy to ask what was going on.
Spencer broke the silence. “I think being hypnotized sounds kind of sketch.”
“You don’t know anything about it,” I said quickly. “C’mon. I can do you all at once,” clapping my hands.
The girls exchanged nervous looks. I was always coming up with stuff for us to try, like smoking dandelion seeds to see if we’d hallucinate or swimming in Pecks Pond, even though a dead body had once been found there. The thing was… they often didn’t want to do the things that I made them do. They loved being my friend and the status that came with being included, but that label came at a high cost. Sometimes in my presence, they didn’t feel real, exactly. They felt like… plastic dolls, with me carefully arranging their every pose.
“Please?” I bat my eyelashes. “Emily, you want to do it, right?”
“I’ll do it!” Hanna butted in.
“Me too,” Emily said quickly after.
Spencer and Aria reluctantly nodded. Satisfied, I shut off all the lights and lit several vanilla-scented votive candles that were on the coffee table. I stood back, and softly said, “Okay everyone, arrange yourselves around me, think calm thoughts, and relax. I’m going to count down from ten, and as soon as I touch your forehead, you’ll be in my power.”
“Spooky.” Emily laughed shakily. The flickering candlelight cast shadows along the walls of the barn as the girls followed my direction, while I hummed ambiently.
“Ten…” I began, “Nine…”
Eight…
Emily’s heartbeat slowed.
Seven…
Hanna’s breathing evened.
Six…
Aria shifted uncomfortably, twitching her foot.
Five…
Spencer uncrossed her legs.
Four…
I pressed my thumb to Emily’s forehead.
Three…
I touched Hanna’s forehead.
Two…
I touched Aria’s forehead and turned to Spencer.
“One.”
When Aria opened her eyes, she saw Hanna and Emily sitting stoically on the carpet. The barn was quiet and dark; the door was wide open, a wind howled through the outside trees, and the vanilla-scented candles had gone out. Spencer and Alison were nowhere to be seen. “Guys?” she whispered.
No answer.
Aria moved out to the porch, pulling her arms around herself to brace against the wind that carried a scent of rain and something faintly metallic. “Ali? Spencer?” she called. Inside, Hanna and Emily rubbed their eyes. “I just had the weirdest dream,” Emily said. “Ali fell down this really deep well. She was stuck at the bottom with no way up, and I couldn’t reach her.”
Hanna gasped. “That was my dream too! Well, sorta. There was this big plant in mine, like a Venus Flytrap, that grabbed hold of her and wouldn’t let her go.”
“Woah,” Emily whispered. They stared at each other, eyes wide.
At that point, Aria spotted Spencer approaching from the nearby brick path that trailed into the woods, looking very pale. “Spencer! Where’s Ali?” she rang out. Hanna and Emily scrambled up to join her.
“I don’t know,” Spencer whispered, “I thought… I don’t know.”
The girls were silent; the only sounds were the tree branches smacking against the glass windowpanes and the roof creaking in the wind.
Just like that, the summer that the girls had planned to spend flirting with boys at pool parties and shopping all day at the King James Mall had been shattered. It was instead spent in a police station answering questions or sitting alone and bleary-eyed in a canopied bed, staring blankly at photo-covered walls.
The same thoughts haunted all four of them, but there wasn’t anything left to say to one another.
The summer faded into winter, which then melted into summer again. Still no Alison. I was gone, not a single golden hair to be found.
Eventually, the girls found a twisted sense of relief in my absence – sure, they missed me, but they were also afraid of me. You see, I knew more about them than anyone else did, maybe even more than they knew themselves. The good, the bad, and especially the ugly. They each felt horrible for thinking so, but… if I was gone, their secrets were safe.
Because two can keep a secret if one of them is dead.
Right?
lewis hamilton, p2, is interviewed during the post-qualifying press conference, britain - july 6, 2024 (transcript under the cut)
Interviewer: "Lewis, let's come to you now. An eleventh front row start at Silverstone for you. Just tell us about the session from your point of view." Lewis: "It was a great session; actually, the best session that we've had as a team, to just have the real pace and be able to actually compete with the McLarens and the Red Bulls. I think is incredibly satisfying, just really a huge boost for the team. And the car felt great, as George was saying-a huge congratulations to George for getting the pole-but to be on the front row, I think, is massive for our team. So many of them are here this weekend with their families, nd it's been a long time since we've had it, so this is a great feeling." Interviewer: "How was the build-up of the session through Q1 and Q2, from your point of view?" Lewis: "It's pretty straightforward for me, to be honest. I mean, when it's wet, that's when I'm probably the happiest, so I'm super confident in those first conditions. That was the easiest part for me, I would say. And then it got a little bit harder once we got to Q3, just a bit with balance, but, nonetheless, as I said, I'm super grateful to be here." Interviewer: "Alright. And Lewis, just throwing it forward to the race, do you have belief in the long run pace of the car?" Lewis: "Well, I think I was cautious with my set-up, more thinking to have a nice balance in the race, rather than all for one particular lap, so I do think that the car will be good tomorrow, yeah." Interviewer: "Alright. Best of luck. Thank you very much."
[time jump] Journalist: "Silvia Arias, Parabrisas. Lewis, with the Mercedes performing like that, end of last year, do you think would you be in Ferrari next year?" Lewis: "Do I what?" Journalist: "Do you think you will be in Ferrari next year, performing, if you had last year the car you are having now?" Lewis: "Yes." Journalist: "Performing like that." Lewis: "Yes."
[time jump] NOT SHOWN: Journalist: "Simon Abberley, Nevis Radio. George and Lewis, you said on Thursday you weren't too sure if you had the car for this weekend. Obviously you're doing quite well with where you're sat just now. With that in mind and the changeable conditions for tomorrow, have you maybe geared your car more towards the rain, or is this something that you thought could be potentially possible on Thursday, but weren't too sure about playing your cards out to the media yet?" Lewis: "I completely forgot what the question was. What was it?" George: "Gear up for the race." [laughs] Lewis: "Oh. Well, I said that earlier on." Journalist: [unintelligible] Lewis: "No. We'd set the car up pretty much exactly the same, whether it's wet or dry. It's just all about optimising the aero package."
[time jump] Journalist: "Kieran Jackson, The Independent. Lewis, you've won here eight times. The guys alongside you haven't won at Silverstone before. Do you think that experience, tomorrow, could really help you, particularly if it rains like it did in 2008? Is there a lot you can take from that race so many years ago, but in similar conditions, perhaps, tomorrow?" Lewis: "I mean, all the experiences definitely help and count. As I said, when it's wet, that's the conditions I was perhaps most comfortable in. But these two have also driven very well in the wet, also, so I don't think it's gonna make a difference."
[time jump] NOT SHOWN: Journalist: "Carlo Platella, FormulaPassion.it. A question for the Mercedes drivers: How different is this car to drive, compared to a couple of months ago?" Lewis: "Again, I forgot what the question was. [laughs] Interviewer: "Can you compare the car now to a couple of months ago?" Lewis: "Oh, shoot, yeah. Massive difference." Interviewer: "Where is it different?" Lewis: "Everywhere." [journalists laugh] Lewis: "It's just better everywhere. From Bahrain, for example, the car felt terrible, and the progress that we made in terms of dialing and fine-tuning the car to optimizing the aero package… This team has never struggled to add performance, but where particularly they put that performance, with this generation of car, has been a big question, and where we're getting the downforce from, so yeah… But now they've done an amazing job, the engineers back at the factory, but look, it's… We'll definitely take it today, but these guys are still… Red Bull, particularly Max, and the McLarens are very, very, very fast, and in some ways… You saw in the last race, they were quite a bit ahead of us, so I'm hoping that tomorrow, with the conditions, we can hold our own."
Interviewer: "Thanks for that. Okay. Alex." Journalist: "Alex Kalinauckas, Autosport. Another question to Lewis, please: Just on rather a different subject, the Apple movie, again, is doing lots of filming at Silverstone, as it was last year. I just wondered, can you give us any update on what you've seen and how it's going? And also, what's your thoughts on the film simply being titled, nice and simple, F1? Thanks." Lewis: "There's not really anything else I can add that I haven't already said. I think Joe and Jerry and the whole crew are so grateful to be here and have been incredibly respectful of this space and have been very, very thoughtful. Some people just go out and go about it their own way, but they've been really, really wanting to make sure that the heritage is very much in this movie, nd so I think people… The trailer is coming out soon, so I'm looking forward to people seeing that, and… What else?" Journalist: "The title." Lewis: "I mean, it's probably… Well, what else are you gonna call it? [laughs] I think it would distract from what the series is, so I like it."
daddy's girl ⸺ lewis hamilton
liked by lewishamilton, charles_leclerc and others tagged: lewishamilton
mamanaomi: another fashionista in the family
lewishamilton gotta make sure she's always looking stylish
mamanaomi she always is, thanks to you ❤️
"are you ready to see daddy racing, sweetheart?" naomi asked her daughter, aria, as she fastened her seatbelt in the back car. aria’s eyes twinkled in excitement as she nodded her head vigorously, her little curls bouncing in enthusiasm.
aria was almost the exact copy of her daddy, lewis hamilton; with her adorable smile and big brown eyes, she was eagerly ready to watch him race today. to aria, lewis wasn’t just a renowned formula one driver; he was a hero, her daddy and she was a daddy’s girl to say the least.
the drive to the circuit was filled with an endless stream of questions from aria, which naomi indulged happily with her daughter's curiosity as she shared every detail about the formula one world, making sure to make it easy for aria to understand at her age.
soon enough, they arrive at the bustling racetrack, causing aria’s excitement to peak. and once parked, naomi helps aria out of the car. the air was buzzing with energy from the crowd as the mother-daughter duo walked side by side; naomi couldn’t help but feel a surge of anticipation, her heart swelling with love for both aria and lewis.
the two made their way towards the mercedes paddock, naomi greeting and introducing their daughter to the rest of the team. however, once hearing a familiar voice, aria squealed happily and giggled as lewis appeared, dressed in his racing gear.
“daddy! hi, daddy!” aria exclaimed, her face lighting up with joy at the sight of her father as lewis laughed, scooping her up into his arms and showering her with a hug and kisses. naomi watched with a smile on her face until moving forward to her husband as he held aria on his hip; as the two leaned toward to kiss each other on the lips, both parents gazing at each other with a loving gaze.
soon, he placed aria down, crouching to her height as he spoke softly to his daughter. “ready to watch daddy race, ladybug?” as aria nodded, smiling widely.
lewis kissed her forehead as he led her to naomi, who whispered to him in support; the two watched him go towards his car, and naomi, going to join the other mercedes members, was at as the monitors were displaying the live feed of the race.
naomi was just so happy that their daughter could watch her father race.
More Comments
I knew I had more comments but there was so much information to wade through that I lost track of a few.
Here is the ever-changing foster care situation in MrsFizzle's own words.
What she told MA:
Shawn going back to his father was realistic, painfully so, and I know that far too well.
This very much seems to imply she has experienced this herself. In her Autumn in Philadelphia comments below she tells MA she is licensed to adopt through foster care, so it's not much of a skip to make.
What she told Reddit you can read for yourself here, here, and here.
And what she tells a reader:
How could you not remember?
Canon inaccuracies aside (the Matthews did help Shawn a lot and offered to adopt him even. Alan did become his father figure at Shawn's request. In the season 5 episode "Graduation" Minkus lets us know that Jon is still teaching on the "other side" of the building where Shawn and Cory don't go with his infamous "Hey, Mr. Turner, wait up!"), look what she says here: Admittedly, I started writing this without any real experience of my own to work from, just stories from foster parent friends.
That is most certainly not the impression she gave everyone else. I can't say I'm surprised she was "borrowing" other people's stories without crediting them. And that isn't the issue. MA herself says that a lot of the situations in her stories come from her students' lives, many of whom she says are very much like Shawn.
The difference here is the willingness to be open about where the stories come from. I see Shawn story after Shawn story in the fandom where the authors share where their stories come from with many if not all being from personal experience.
There is no shame in this either. Authors everywhere throughout time have taken stories from real life and written about them. It's what authors do, you know?
So why isn't MrsFizzle willing to do the same? Why does she tell one reader this and another that?
Under normal circumstances, no one would likely make any of these connections because most authors don't link their socials like she does. However, when you use the same couple of names and have those names linked across all of your social media mixing fandom and personal, things like this may very well come to light. And when you appear to be deceitful with those linked socials, this is the risk you take: exposing yourself.
Going back over this reminded me of the extraordinary amount of guest comments MrsFizzle got that I could not see any other Jon and Shawn authors getting at the time and the extraordinary amount of empty registered accounts that were all created after MA went public with the plagiarism claims. I had a hard time finding these accounts interacting with other BMW stories at the time. Maybe I missed them but, I use that nifty little find the word feature my browser has and there almost no overlap.
I just wonder where these hordes of fans are coming from when she has almost no public presence outside of Reddit and AO3 and what she has is not in this fandom. From what I see on AO3, these accounts are not flocking to her stories in general, only to Reunification.
Why?
I can't answer that.
But I did do some tests to see if you can manipulate your own stats with a drabble on my own account. And you can.
Log out of your account and you can leave a guest kudo. Use a different device, leave a guest kudo. Use a private browser, leave many over time. Get a few friends and you can rack up a lot in a short amount of time. Same for hits. Same for guest comments. And it doesn't take much to get another AO3 account, you just need an email address and a little patience.
What I'm saying is ultimately stats mean nothing. They can be manipulated. It's something to bear in mind for both reader and writer no matter your fandom. There will always be someone in every fandom that will value stats over everything else and use deception to get them.
It that what happened here?
I don't see evidence of MrsFizzle having a large enough fan base from her most written for fandoms to gain this organically. I think if she did, you'd see it on those stories as well. Superman- various media, Supernatural, Doctor Who, and Harry Potter are huge fandoms while BMW is very small by comparison. I don't see how you would get a bigger following in BMW than one of these others. I just don't see evidence that these fans of hers are following her to BMW or that BMW fans are flocking to her and not other Jon and Shawn writers too.
But I could be wrong. Only she knows the truth.
I believe this all that was left of the comments. I will update this post if I come across anything else.
Crossover Masterlist
I did threaten to do this so the natural next step was to go and organize a list of crossovers! I tried to stick to main ones/ones that have been developed a bit more but I’m happy to include anything else so!! If anyone isn’t on the list but wants to be included lmk (I was sticking with people who interacted with the original post, happy to include anyone who might have missed it), if I’ve missed any specific crossovers you want included lmk, or if there are any that you want me to take off the list, lmk that too!!
Merz Prinzessin vs. Dutch Lion (series)
Part 6: Fall from the grace and sinner kisses
Note: it's short, it's messy, it's exactly what their feelings are. Sue me 🚩
After the picture arrived, things started to get even worse for Max. Aria avoided him like the plague, drove more aggressively than ever before, and won almost every race and sprint. Lando was glued to her side, always smiling and kissing her at every opportunity. She mostly smirked, but nonetheless. They looked happy; Toto was happy, both as a father and as a team director. Max, on the other hand, was miserable. The championship was slipping through his fingers, Aria had already slipped away, and he could do nothing except watch.
His eyes pierced through her as she chatted with Lando, stroking her nails down his arm. That should be him and she knew it. Hell, he risked everything for her and this is the shit that she pulls?
Kelly was watching him from inside the garage as he turned away from them to head back in. The baby was growing healthy; he supported her, talked about names with her, but he wasn't really there. At least, his heart wasn't. Social media was full of Lando and Aria; wherever he looked, everyone was amazed by the new couple in the paddock, going so far as to comment on how her rivalry with Max stopped as soon as she found Lando and fell in love. Something about 'new perspectives'.
And as the poor Lando still had no clue what was going on between the two before all this, he still talked to Max about his new sweetheart, not even wondering why the usual yapper wasn't saying anything about it.
Aria stayed away. He caught her smirking whenever she saw him looking her way, but that was it. Until Max finally had enough in Italy.
"We need to talk."
Nothing; like she didn't even hear him, she kept walking to her parked car, swaying her hips, and typing on her phone.
"Will you just stop for a fucking minute? I just want to talk to you." Max was now nearly jogging to keep up with her. The parking lot was almost empty, except for a few crew members here and there, as Aria was one of the last to leave, having been in a team meeting.
"We don't have anything to talk about, Verstappen," she said abruptly over her shoulder, now nearing her parked Mercedes.
"What do you mean we don't have anything to talk about? You've been avoiding me for months, ever since I texted—"
"Stop it," she turned to face him, her face in a scowl, glaring angrily at him.
"You don't get to chase after me, after leaving me hanging. After getting her pregnant right after saying all that bullshit about needing me. You don't get to run after me, the moment I decide to do the same to you. You fucking hypocrite!"
Max stepped closer, getting angry himself.
"You know very well that I left her! For you! I explained it to her! But you're the one talking, saying you want me and then running to Lando because you simply couldn't wait for two fucking minutes!"
"Don't bring Lando into this. He isn't your problem. She crossed her arms, her expression cold as ice.
"You're right, he isn't. You.." he stepped even closer to her, so he even felt her breath hitch slightly, before continuing, "are my fucking problem." before she even registered what happened, his hand snaked behind her neck, pulling her face to his and locking their lips together.
Aria's eyes snapped wide open in shock and she tried pushing him away, which only resulted in him snaking his other arm around her waist and pulling her even closer to him.
It wasn't gentle, careful, or loving. No, it was rough. A clash of tongues and teeth, all the pent-up anger swimming to the surface after months of torture, like they were both trying to prove a point, to win. After what seemed like an eternity, they pulled away, breathing hard, eyes still closed. As Max opened his mouth to finally tell her to stay, that he did want her and only her, that he even… Aria pulled away abruptly, opening the car door and getting in as quickly as possible.
He placed his hands on the car window, his voice muffled to her ears. "Aria, no, please wait! I—" But the car pulled away, not before he saw her wiping a corner of her eye angrily.
"...love you," Max finished to himself, watching the car blur away.
I civili nelle guerre del risiko
I civili sono un'entità astratta e assoluta come i carri armati. Non hanno prezzo.
Come gli ordini ai militari... indiscutibili.
Ma la pelle non ha un valore assoluto, altrimenti l'universo sarebbe già esploso, perchè quel valore assoluto continuiamo a violentarlo.
E quindi ci sono pellacce che valgono più di altre pellacce. Ci sono le pellacce delle SS, le pellacce dei kapò e via a salire... Ci sono le pellacce che perdi oggi e le pellacce che perderai domani e ci sono gli interessi su queste pellacce e il rischio o il beneficio che queste pellacce comportano oggi e nel futuro.
Magari una pellaccia di un ladro vale comunque più di una Mercedes parcheggiata in un box, ma la pellaccia di un corrotto o di un corruttore che fa mancare la TAC in un ospedale, quante pellacce di poveracci che di quella TAC hanno bisogno vale?
Certo se tu hai qualche milione di euro e la TAC te la faresti comunque, dai valori diversi alle pellacce di questa gente, proprio perchè le pellacce non hanno un valore assoluto.
E allora anche le pellacce dei civili innocenti hanno un valore. Se ammazzi civili innocenti non imploderà l'universo e pensare che arrivi Babbo Natale a portarti il carbone se lo fai non è esattamente quel tipo di argomento che puoi condividere con tutti su una base oggettiva.
E quando ammazzi civili... dai un valore anche ai tuoi civili.
Vincere la Germania nazista senza causare morti di civili innocenti, inclusiquei civili che quella Germania hanno contribuito a combatterla, sarebbe stato praticamente impossibile. Non vincere la Germania avrebbe avuto costi più alti.
Lo scandalo è raccontare che sia interesse dei poveracci scambiare vite di poveracci con vite di altri poveracci quando spessissimo non è vero e nemmeno s'è considerata qualche alternativa.
E questo proprio perchè le guerre seguono le regole dell'economia... e sempre più spesso, con l'aumentare del divario tra ricchi e poveri, chi suggerisce questi scambi trucca la bilancia e non paga il prezzo.
E molti di quelli che si fanno convincere che siano scambi ragionevoli se non ne stanno pagando il prezzo subito lo pagheranno dopo, perchè anche loro sono sulla bilancia degli stessi che gli hanno suggerito che questi scambi fossero nel loro interesse.
E magari a casa tua questa gente non ti spedisce a farti saltare per aria in metropolitana... ma ti paga un cazzo per cadere da un'impalcatura per pagarsi il Mercedes o ti dice che non ci sono soldi per la sanità ma ce ne sono per un condono o per il ponte di Messina o per esportare democrazia.
