... this time the impressions of the 13-year-old son of an Austrian count, during the occupation of Vienna in 1809.

Near Mehlmarkt on 21 May we met a rather fat gentleman with a full face, on horseback, covered in dust. He was accompanied by a large entourage. An adjutant asked us where the Schwarzenberg Palace was. It was Marshal Davout, the Duke of Auerstädt, who thanked us very kindly and had lived in our house in 1805.
