Writing Notes: Drowning
Drowning - death due to submersion in liquid (usually water) long enough to prevent oxygenation of the blood.
Near-drowning - the term for survival after suffocation caused by submersion in water or another fluid.
Some experts classify as drowning those cases of temporary survival that end in death within 24 hours.
A reduced concentration of oxygen in the blood (hypoxemia) is common to all near-drownings. Human life depends on a constant supply of oxygen-laden air reaching the blood by way of the lungs.
When drowning begins, the larynx (the air passage in the throat) closes involuntarily, preventing both air and water from entering the lungs.
In 10–15% of cases, hypoxemia results because the larynx stays closed. This is called ‘‘dry drowning.’’
Hypoxemia also occurs in ‘‘wet drowning,’’ the 85–90% of cases where the larynx relaxes and water enters the lungs.
The physiological mechanisms that produce hypoxemia in wet drowning are different for freshwater and saltwater, but only a small amount of either kind of water is needed to damage the lungs and interfere with the body’s oxygen intake.
All of this happens very quickly:
Within 3 minutes of submersion, most people are unconscious.
Within 5 minutes the brain begins to suffer from lack of oxygen.
Abnormal heart rhythms (cardiac dysrhythmias) often occur in near-drowning cases.
The heart may stop pumping (cardiac arrest).
An increase in blood acidity (acidosis) is another consequence of near-drowning.
Under some circumstances, near drowning can cause a substantial increase or decrease in the volume of circulating blood.
Many victims experience a severe drop in body temperature (hypothermia). Hypothermia sometimes can have a protective effect on the brain, so survival after prolonged cold immersion is occasionally possible.
Some Symptoms
The signs & symptoms of near-drowning can differ widely from person to person.
Some victims are alert but agitated, while others are comatose.
Breathing may have stopped, or the victim may be gasping for breath.
Bluish skin (cyanosis),
coughing,
and frothy pink sputum (material expelled from the respiratory tract by coughing) are often observed.
Rapid breathing (tachypnea),
a rapid heart rate (tachycardia), and
a low-grade fever are common during the first few hours after rescue.
Conscious victims may appear confused, lethargic, or irritable.
Treatment
Treatment begins with removing the victim from the water and performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) if there is no breathing or pulse.
One purpose of CPR is to bring oxygen to the lungs, heart, brain, and other organs by breathing into the victim’s mouth.
When the victim’s heart has stopped, CPR also attempts to get the heart pumping again by pressing down on the victim’s chest.
Oxygen is administered to the victim as soon as possible.
If the victim’s breathing has stopped or is otherwise impaired, emergency personnel insert a tube into the windpipe (trachea) to maintain the airway (this is called endotracheal intubation).
The victim is also checked for head, neck, and other injuries, and fluids are given intravenously.
Hypothermia victims require careful handling to protect the heart from developing abnormal rhythms.
In the emergency department, victims continue receiving oxygen until blood tests show a return to normal.
About one-third are intubated and initially need mechanical support to breathe.
Rewarming is undertaken when hypothermia is present.
Victims may arrive needing treatment for cardiac arrest or cardiac dysrhythmias.
Comatose patients present a special problem: although various treatment approaches have been tried, none have proved beneficial.
In the mildest cases, patients can be discharged from the emergency department after 4-6 hours if their blood oxygen level is normal and no signs or symptoms of near-drowning are present.
But because lung problems can arise 12 or more hours after submersion, the medical staff must first be satisfied that the patients are willing and able to seek further medical help if necessary.
Admission to a hospital for at least 24 hours for further observation and treatment is a must for patients who do not appear to recover fully in the emergency department.
Prevention
Prevention depends on educating parents, other adults, and teenagers about water safety.
Parents must realize that young children who are left in or near water without adult supervision even for a short time can easily get into trouble, not just at the beach or next to a swimming pool, but in bathtubs and around toilets, buckets, washing machines, and other household articles where water can collect.
Research on swimming pool drownings involving young children shows that the victims have usually been left unattended less than 5 minutes before the accident.
Experts consider putting up a fence around a home swimming pool an essential precaution, and estimate that 50–90% of child drownings and near-drownings could be prevented if fences were widely adopted.
The fence should be at least 5 ft (1.5 m) high and unclimbable, have a self-closing and self-locking gate, and completely surround the pool.
Pool owners—and, indeed, all other adults— should learn CPR.
Everyone should follow the rules for safe swimming and boating.
Those who have a medical condition that can cause a seizure or otherwise threaten safety in the water are advised always to swim with a partner.
People also need to be aware that alcohol and drug use substantially increase the chances of an accident.
The danger of alcohol and drug use around water requires special emphasis where teenagers are concerned. Teenagers can also benefit from CPR training and safe swimming and boating classes.

parting writing advice before this blog becomes inactive from someone who takes pictures of broken bones for a living and who has worked in an ER
a fracture of the bone is the exact same thing as a break, it’s just a more medical term the same way that sutures are the exact same thing as stitches and edema is the same thing as swelling, so an open fracture that breaks through the skin is the same thing as a closed hairline fracture you can barely see on an X-ray is the same thing as a stress fracture that is only really detectable with a physical exam, they’re only classified in more specific ways and they are treated based on severity
most superficial wounds aren’t going to be stitched up after 12-24 hours because they’ve been open long enough that closing them at that point would be asking for infection
an X-ray is a little bit of radiation, a CT is quite a bit more radiation, and an MRI is a magnet with no radiation whatsoever
no matter what grey’s anatomy or any other medical show might make you believe, doctors rarely do any actual imaging (taking X-rays, CTs, etc) and most of them would have no idea how
Concussions are not diagnosed with imaging. There is not a single X-ray or CT or anything else that can tell a doctor that their patient has a concussion. A concussion is diagnosed with an exam. Patients will usually have a headache and they will be dizzy, nauseous, light/sound sensitive, and sometimes they will have memory or vision problems. They will occasionally have something called nystagmus in their eyes. CTs are taken to rule out more serious conditions such as a fractured skull or bleeding/clotting in the brain.
O2 saturation is a vital that tells you how much oxygen is in your blood. Anything above 95% is okay. Anything from 90-94% is going to make a medical professional take a second look. Anything from 80-90% is low grade hypoxia and you’re getting a chest X-ray and possibly put on oxygen. You might be going to the hospital. Anything below 80% is most likely a hospital admission whether you like it or not because you’re about to get a whole shit ton of labs and a CT of your lungs at the very least if the X-ray hasn’t show a punctured lung or pneumonia to explain what’s up. I hope you find nasal cannulas comfortable. Doctors would be concerned about a blood clot, lung cancer, and other super concerning pathologies.
Kidney stones hurt like a bitch and can cripple most people to the point where they cannot walk. Imagine a foot long straw trying to pass a rock that is 2-3x it’s diameter.
Children regrow bones like lizards grow their tails. Kids can be healed from a fracture in 2-4 weeks that would take an adult 6-8 weeks to heal.
The femur is an incredible difficult bone to break. It’s usually a very high impact injury (car wreck, long distance fall, skiing accident, etc).
This is just advice but do not do not DO NOT ride in the passenger seat of a car with your legs propped up on the dash if you value keeping your leg bones intact where they are supposed to be. Just don’t do it, please. But if you want to write a particularly gruesome car wreck, that’s a good way to do it!
Animal bites are almost always preemptively treated with antibiotics.
I might add more if I can think of it but I’ll answer any questions if people have them

Hey sorry tumblr lost my account, do you mind if I resubmit my request if it was lost too?
I was wondering if you’d write for Knockout and Ratchet caring for a sick human charge with pneumonia?
(I’m getting over it now but I got bacterial pneumonia from a cold which at first they thought was walking pneumonia because all I had was worsening cough that turned into coughing fits which warm tea and hot chocolate helped and a fluctuating low-high grade fever. But sometimes my airway would get mostly/or partially clogged and I was afraid to sleep at night and my very Kind Saint of a mother even though I’m an adult and away at collage most of the time stayed up at night with me so I could sleep/rest comfortably with out having a panic attack over possibly suffocating in my sleep. So I thought this would be a cute ask with the medics.”
Either way thank you so much! Have a wonderful week!
A/N: I did some HCs for each of our lovely medics. They ended up being pretty short, but oh well
~Ratchet~
•Ratchet is always worried when you or any of the trouble trio are showing even the slightest signs of illness
•So when you got a cold, he was immediately insisting on taking care of you
•You were like “It just a cold” and assured him you would be better in no time
•Things didn’t really work out that way thought, because you got pneumonia and it got pretty bad for you
•Ratchet was especially worried about the fluctuating fever, but when you started to not be able to sleep, he got really worried
•Cybertronians don’t need air/oxygen or any of that so they don’t have to worry about suffocating or anything of that sort
•He doesn’t really understand the feeling itself but he does understand the consequences of what happens when humans don’t get air
•So when you tell him you’re scared to sleep because you might suffocate, he’s all over it
•He offers to stay up all night to look after you, and despite the illness, you sleep moderately well for the first time in days
•Ratchet was basically listening to your breathing and scanning your vitals approximately every five minutes the whole night
~Knockout~
•Knockout isn’t familiar with different kinds of human sickness at all, so when you got a cold, he kind of freaked out, because this is his first time dealing with anything of the sort
•When your cold turned into bacterial pneumonia, he really freaked out, because “Omg what if you die?” which is of course not very reassuring
•He’s panicking and frantically searching online for how to help you, because he has no damn idea what to do
•He can’t really take care of you on the Nemesis, they don’t really have any human amenities so he’s basically sitting by your bed in his holoform in your apartment
•He brings you hot drinks and makes sure you have tissues and eat at least a little bit everyday
•Knockout is a very attentive caretaker, even if he gets most of his tips and tricks from the internet
•Your whole body is aching so you spend most of your time in bed, watching shows or just scrolling your phone
•Knockout watches shows with you and pretty much every time you laugh, you get a horrible coughing fit, so he tries not to make you laugh
•He doesn’t really need sleep while in his holoform, and even when in his normal robot form, he doesn’t need it as much as a human would so he can stay up all night, making sure you can sleep easy

Despite what everyone thought, Eddie Munson was a hard worker. He knew how tight money could be and always made sure he worked for what he earned. He didn’t appreciate hand-outs or pity, Wayne had always taught him that they were better than that.
That’s why life was so hard after Spring Break. Medical bills were piling in faster than Wayne could pull double shifts, they were living in the Harrington living room until they could afford a new place to live, and they would hardly have enough money available for food if it wasn’t for Steve’s tendency to cook too much food for a single dinner portion.
Wayne was worked down to the bone and Eddie had never felt so useless. Now, feeling useless wasn’t a new feeling to him but this degree was. His intermittent shifts at Thatcher Tire had stopped as soon as Ole Hank had seen his picture on the news. No one wanted to hire the kid with pathetic grades and a pity diploma that took three years to receive. Hell, no one even wanted to buy drugs from him anymore out of fear they were poisoned or some shit. All of it just left Eddie feeling… worthless.
When Steve was finally able to secure Eddie a secretarial job at a veterinarian’s office two towns over, he was thrilled. He could finally start making some money and take some of the stress off of Wayne. Plus, he could see cute animals all day. Win-win-win.
And everything was great. Until it wasn’t.
It wasn’t even his fault. He was doing his job like they had trained him to do and he was doing it well. Until one of the customers started snacking on walnuts in the lobby while waiting for the vet to see their toy poodle. All it took was a moment for the air to reach Eddie and his nut allergy took over. His throat swelled, his lungs spasmed, and his face turned purple as his body went without oxygen. He coughed and choked but couldn’t tell his frightened coworkers what was wrong through his frantic gasps of air.
He couldn’t tell them to let him ride it out or have his boyfriend- his friend Steve- pick him up to save money on an ambulance. They called 9-1-1, he was taken to the hospital yet again, and he spent a long night trying to recover. When he finally got back to Steve’s the next morning, it was to a voicemail from his boss telling him not to come back. He didn’t want the drama of Eddie’s “near-death experiences” or the stress associated with “dealing with him”.
Eddie went right back to feeling useless. Not only had he managed to waste more money on medical costs, he’d lost his only source of income, and the ability of his body to function properly in one fell swoop. His lungs acted up as soon as he thought about the incident, asthmatic flare-ups a threat around every corner.
He didn’t know how to get passed the incident and he certainly didn’t know how to get out of this slump he was in. Getting out of bed became a Herculean task and finding the effort to do anything more than cuddle with Steve didn’t seem to have any point. He’d get over it eventually, he was sure. But for now, he’d grieve the loss of his health and the discrimination it had forced upon him. For now, he’d rely on Uncle Wayne and his friends and eventually, he would be okay.

girls night out.
Visiting hours are over at the hospital on the other side of town. The hallways are quiet, medical grade pristine with overhead light reflections on the tile as Aiden walks through with his head down, hood up in non-branded dark clothing. Many will say being part of an motorcycle club is a waste of time, only made for degenerates and unsavoury people. For Aiden, he's learned that being part of it offers the upper hand and special cases. This is one of them.
There's a night nurse on rotation who slips him a pass as they walk by each other and Aiden goes through an unauthorized door into the intensive care unit. He passes by rooms with others in great need of help, those who deserve it and he stops at a marked room, letting himself in. Robert lays in the hospital bed, his face purple and bruises, cuts and fractures. Aiden draws his hood down and takes at a look around. Not a single get well card nor balloon in sight, seems to be par for the course.
There's a breathing machine to the left of Robert, keeping him going and Aiden hovers over the other man. Robert's eyes barely open but his body jerks as he sees Aiden above him, strained noise from his throat. "Not a great feeling, is it?" Aiden asks him. "Being alone and afraid."
There's another strangled noise from Robert as Aiden brings over a chair, scratching it against the floor and sits right now. "My brother could have killed you, but I think it's only far we get to have one final talk," Aiden looks over at the machine and scans over the buttons. "Thing is, you're not going to be doing much of the talking." Aiden flips the ventilator off, the humming of the machine thinning out as Robert's lungs try to fight for assisted oxygen. "Take you're time, I've got all night."

a/n: oof, this might be my favorite one so far. after witnessing a particularly bad memory, Johnny offers to teach V how to play guitar. also yes my V is kinda seeing Judy too but idk I also ship her so hard with Johnny so interpret that however you will, I love her with either or both <3 also pre-game Samurai fan corpo V is my new roman empire
warnings: traumatic childhood, depiction of physical abuse, abusive "parenting", hopefully Johnny isn't too ooc
- Black Dog. V’s eyes watered at the sight of the electric guitar in her new apartment, bringing the back of her hand up to her mouth as she bit back a grin.
“Gettin’ all emotional on me? Sweet, but you know we’d never work” Johnny lit up a cigarette, resting against the windowsill.
“Shut up, Johnny” she laughed through her wavering emotions, kneeling down to admire the instrument. Her long nails ran over the glossy finish, hesitantly plucking a string to relish the sound. The rockerboy watched her in amusement. She looked just like a little kid getting their favorite toy on Christmas Eve.
“Don’t tell me you’ve never touched a guitar before” he said in between drags, eyes glued to her.
“No” V breathed, lowering her gaze. “Wasn’t somethin’ I was allowed to touch.”
Victoria Lovett’s slaps always stung for days after. Valerie gasped in horror as her mother snapped her vinyl in half before angrily bursting into tears.
“The fuck did you do that for?!” she roared, her rebellion earning her another painful slap across the face before feeling her hair being viciously tugged upwards.
“Who do you think you’re speaking to, Valerie? Address me like that one more time and see what happens. This time, we’ll make sure you don’t get any medical attention.”
Valerie sobbed, attempting to free her mother’s hold of her hair to no avail. She helplessly stood face to face with the vitriol across her mother’s still-youthful features, the various implants and surgeries to keep her looking in her late twenties at most.
“Don’t try to play the victim with me. I’ve told you how many times? Stop wasting time on this drivel, it’s simply not my fault you won’t listen to your own mother. You need to focus on the Academy and the Academy only-” “I have top grades in every class! Every professor has praised me to you! What more do you want?! I’m not even allowed to listen to the music I like?! I’ve done everything, everything to appease you, it’s never enough! I’m never enough! ”
Victoria glared towards the broken Samurai record on the floor before returning her attention to her daughter. “This noise? You call this anarchistic low-class propaganda filth music? You are the heir to a royal bloodline, Valerie Lovett! There is no higher insult for us or for the future of our family for you to betray us - to disrespect The Company like this.”
Valerie’s dark makeup ran down her face in trails of black, shaking in fear in her mother’s grip. She squeezed her eyes shut and whimpered before she was abruptly dropped, falling to her knees. She tried to back away, but her mother grabbed onto her face so ferociously, she thought her fingers would crush her jaw to dust. Fear instructed her to bite down hard into her tongue, still her trembling and silence her cries. It always riled them up even worse when she couldn’t stop crying.
“Perhaps we’ve been too lenient with you - I should’ve listened to your father and scrapped you. He was right, your genetics were flawed. I was soft because I’d always wanted a daughter.”
Her unloving hands moved down to Valerie’s throat; she lowered herself onto the floor under the weight, eyes wide in horror, feeling the oxygen cut off from her lungs with a wheeze.
“M-Mom, it- hurts-”“You will address me as Mother, Valerie, and you will watch your tongue with me from this day on, unless you truly want me to go ahead and remove it. Better yet, your father suggested a faceplate; you know your facial features are… less than desirable.”
Valerie couldn’t help the tears pouring down the sides of her face, lips trembling. This was it, she thought. This time, Victoria would really go through with it and kill her, like she always said she would. She closed her eyes, trying to conjure up the smallest spark of courage inside her, to accept her death with dignity. She’d been contemplating choosing her own way out over whatever nightmare of a future her parents had planned for her for a while now, anyway. Lyrics played in her head, offering her the tiniest hope of solace as she tried - to no avail - to block her mother's words out.
“I better not see this slut makeup or clothing on you again. I’ve told you time and time again; a woman must be elegant. You’ve tarnished our reputation enough. I do not need the whole corporate world seeing my daughter parade around like a harlot.”
“Black dog in my head, guiding me into the end…” Valerie found herself humming, sitting down on the couch as she gingerly cradled the guitar in her arms. Johnny blinked in confusion for a moment before realizing they were back in the present, rubbing his temples.
“Fuck, kid. I’m- I’m so fuckin’ sorry.”
V gave him a sympathetic half-smile. “...thanks. Sorry you had to see that.” She didn’t correct him on her age this time. She was barely a few years younger than him when he died, but she’d almost gotten attached to the stupid nickname.
He felt the clutches of wrath crawling up throughout his whole body. That familiar feeling. Anger, helplessness. Or maybe that was V. Maybe both.
“I know nothin I say’ll make it any better. But I’d kill ‘em for you, in a heartbeat,” Johnny tried to steady his voice from wavering with anger, taking a few steps towards the couch before lowering down onto the floor. She nodded, wiping the dampness off her face with her sleeve. “I know.”
They sat in silence for a moment; her fingers explored the ins and outs of the guitar, getting used to its weight atop her frame, humming still.
“That your favourite one? Black Dog.”
V let out a small sigh. She wrapped her arms around it, snuggling it to her chest like a teddy bear, but carefully enough to not damage it in any way, bringing her knees up.
“One of.” Johnny shook his head. “Never told me you were into Samurai.” “I did, though. Remember? Oh my gosh!!! I can’t believe it! It’s The REAL Johnny Silverhand?! I’m gonna pass out! Can I get a backstage pass? Please, I’m your biggest fan! I’ll let you see my backstage…! Please, Daddy, I promise I’m 18! Can I at least get your autograph on my tits? Swear I’ll never wash it off!”
He let out a loud groan and quickly pushed himself up to the couch, placing one arm on either side of her to tower above.
“Christ, shut up” he barked, drinking in her joyous giggle as she playfully tried to push him away. Their eyes caught onto each other and they both stilled for a moment, brown staring into blue with a feverish intensity that made her heart pause its rhythm. Fine, maybe she'd had the most miniscule crush on him when she was a teenager, a lifetime ago.
Her hands, forgotten atop his chest, idly ran over the silver chain of his dog tags. He successfully suppressed displaying the tingle that rushed down his spine.
“I could teach ya. If you want” he spoke in a low voice, motioning towards the guitar in her arms. She widened her eyes with excitement, heart hammering rapidly inside her ribcage.
“No kiddin’?” “No kiddin’. Might even get a jump start, assumin’ your fingers inherited my muscle memory.”
The tone in his voice was very suggestive - her face flushed at his statement, reaching one of her hands up to clasp his face and shove him off her. “Ew! Do you always have to be a fuckin’ weirdo? I’m tellin’ the media that Johnny Silverhand was a degenerate sicko!” He chuckled as he moved away, reaching to wrap his fingers around her wrist and pull it off from his face with a sly grin. “Think you’re about a half a century late on that one, choomba.”
She rolled her eyes, feeling a sense of loss as his touch departed from her hand, grazing the guitar with a loving gaze perhaps meant for something, someone else.
“I’d love that” she whispered in reply to his suggestion, prompting Johnny to walk around the corner and grab his own guitar. How did that even work? Ah, whatever, she didn’t fucking care anymore.
“First off; you gotta shorten those vixen claws. I’m sure Judy will live just fine without them shreddin’ her back.”
She flung a throw pillow off the couch at him with a gasp. “Ugh! Don’t tell me you watched?!” “Nah, got better things to do, but you’re definitely a scratcher. Maybe Judy’s onto somethin’” he smirked, adding “...woman after my own heart” in a hushed voice before the unexpected pillow hit him right in the face. “You little!-
V let out a squeal as he threw the pillow back at her, dodging in time for it to only hit her side. “Slow reflexes, old m-ahh!”
He pulled her to his chest with one swift motion, her guitar separating them from being flushed up too closely against each other. She gave him the faintest glare, trying to withhold the blush from returning to her cheeks. “What?”
Johnny’s eyes bore into hers. V shivered, gulping. Wow. The rockerboy smoulder really worked, huh.
As if he’d heard her thoughts (shit, he definitely did), he burst into a chuckle, shaking his head before turning them around, standing behind her and tilting his head by the side of hers. He tentatively hovered his hands above her arms, asking for permission. She gave him a small nod, freezing when his fingers made contact with her skin; oh, as if it wasn’t embarrassing enough, she was sure he could feel her heart rate climbing higher.
“Relax” his gravelly voice brushed against her ear, making her eyes widen - yeah, not helping! - the distance between them shrinking as he wrapped his arms around hers, placing his hands atop V’s. “You’re holdin’ it wrong. Here.”
Without any smartass reply, V followed his lead, letting him adjust her hold of the guitar and position her fingers atop the strings. “You ever play anythin’ ‘fore?” She was thankful for his idle chitchat, helping her relax into his instructions. “Yeah, piano.” “Hm. Suits you. Know the basics, then?” “Wouldn’t mind a refresher…” Truthfully, having him so close still unnerved her, and music theory was the last thing on her mind. “Alright. You’re gonna need a pick.”
-
The Kabuki apartment was filled with laughter and the sweet strumming of guitar strings as they passed the night away in their little corner of Night City. He was right - she did get the gist surprisingly quickly, learning the riff for Black Dog before it got high time to hit the hay. He watched her tired figure on the couch, sweetly curled around the guitar.
He softly ruffled her hair with a chuckle. “Startin’ to look like you might just be cut out to be my prodigy. I'll admit - I'm impressed!”
“Mmm… Johnny?”
“The man, the myth, the legend. At your service.”
“Promise me somethin'?”
“Man, why do chicks always say this to me? Is it my devilishly good looks? Wasn't exactly tryin’ to inspire husband material…”
“Promise… you'll stay?”
His smile faltered, eyes idly following the curve of her thighs, all the way to the peaceful expression on her face.
‘Course I'll stay.
“Don't got much of a choice.”
She let out a small noise, making herself comfortable as her speech slurred, breathing softly.
“‘m scared… t’… sleep alone. Been so good… know you're there. Means… they can't… hurt me.”
“No. They can't. We'll flatline ‘em before they even think it.”
She scooted closer to him on the couch, allowing her head to rest on the side of his leg. He tensed for a moment before his muscles eased into her touch, ghosting the tips of his fingers over her arm with uncharacteristic tenderness before letting out a quiet chuckle, the corner of his lips tugging upward as he looked down at her.
“‘night night, V.”
I’ll stay until I fix this. ‘Til you can be free of me.

When you said Roland was unstable, what did you mean by that? Was he just insane or did something traumatic happen to him?
Slides over a ‘Yap Pass’
SHAKES VIOLENTLY
I'm taking the yap pass, thankbyku
——------------——
Okay, so, as we can tell already by what all Roland has done, he's unstable.
And the reality of it is that Mori didn't create aggressive or explosive behaviors in him, he only emphasized them. Gave Roland an outlet, an excuse to light his own fuse
While Roland was growing up, his brother was very much the center of attention. By his parents, teachers, etc. His brother was a smart kid, and even at 6 he was moved up a grade, knew exactly what he was doing when it came to most things.
On the other hand, Roland was a bit.... Educationally stunted. It was probably due to his issues like ADHD and such, but he could never seem to focus properly. Couldn't absorb what he was being taught, whether that was his ABC's, how to talk properly, or basic morals.
And when Roland was about 9-10 years old, his brother had fallen horribly ill. Most doctors predicted that it was terminal and he probably wouldn't live longer than a few years.
And Roland.... Didn't really understand empathy. The way he saw it, was that his brother was taking even more attention from him. Occasionally his parents would forget to pick him up from school, or leave food for him to eat for dinner since they spent most of their time at the hospital with their younger son.
He began to resent not only his parents, but his brother too.
After nearly a year of constant medical attention and nearly facing death in a medically induced coma, his brother was finally predicted to make a full recovery. When Mori found out, he .... Wasn't too thrilled. He was already content with his brother passing, so finding out that his brother would make it? He saw it as a competition for attention.
The moment he was left alone with his brother, still in his coma hooked up to the ventilator, he pinched the breathing tube running into his brother's mouth, cutting off his oxygen supply.
He held it for minutes on end until his brother effectively suffocated to death.
——★
Since then, his mental state has just declined. He developed severe anger issues, was snappy and irritated all the time, picking physical fights with whoever was willing.
He was explosive and refused to get help for any of his mental issues, he chose to deal with them on his own, even if that just meant burying all his anger deep down and pretending nothing happened.
He didn't know how to feel empathy for the longest time, had no concept of it at all. He didn't feel remorse, and he didn't care about how others felt a good 90% of the time. His head was filled with violence, and he often fantasized about hurting or torturing those that irritated him... (Subtle foreshadowing..?)
He viewed everyone as competition unless they respected or praised him for something he was doing, sort of like Mori in a sense. But while Mori was more passive aggressive and jabbed at people with his words, Roland was always willing to get physical.
Because of his track record of fights on his record during school, he was barely able to claw his way into the army. But when he met Mori, all that anger and unstableness that he'd buried deep down, came rising back to the surface.
He started having the fantasies of hurting people again, Mori in particular, he hated the man. Hated the way he instigated him, treated him like he was no threat, never respected him.
So after the years he spent stuck with Mori, he finally snapped. (i.e. kidnapping and torturing him, essentially giving into his fantasies.)
He was always a rather unstable guy who couldn't handle his own emotions, Moribund just undid all the work he put into burying that side of himself.
——-----------——
Thank you for the yap pass, I've been cooking silently in my own little corner for a while....
They're like adding water to an electrical fire, everyone gets hurt in the end.
Also, one thing that set them apart? Moribund felt remorse. He buried Roland in respect, gave him his own headstone, he placed flowers on it and wished him peace. And if given the opportunity? Roland would never do the same
THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME YAP ‼️‼️
I never get to yap about my little guys hegheghegrgdv mchdn x .....

The Idol who cant Smile
Minji X Fem! Reader
Description: You are the oldest Member of New Jeans, but Fans Never saw you Smile once. Why don't you Smile? Who's the Person that can bring back a smile to your Face?
Chapter 5:
With a smile, the nurse greeted me. He had just brought a new oxygen tank and was rolling it past me. The taller man looked at me, "You're back. He seems to be doing better today than a few days ago. The fever has dropped dramatically and is within the normal range. If you'd like, you can go to him. He's in the garden," the nurse said with a smile.
Understanding, I nodded and thanked the older man. Shortly after, I made my way to the garden. I spotted him from a distance. He was sitting in his wheelchair, his hands on his thighs, his gaze fixed on the sunflowers. Nervously, I took several deep breaths.
"Hey, Dad," I said as I approached him, but I also kept some distance. He turned his head toward me and then looked back at the flowers. As he had done so many times before, he remained silent. He just didn't talk to me. I didn't know what was better... Him not speaking to me? Or him cursing me?
"I heard your fever has gone down," I said. But it was futile. It was as if I were talking to a wall. Sighing, I sat down on the garden bench. His eyes, however, remained fixed on the sunflowers in front of him. I, too, looked at the flowers. My mother's favorite flowers...
He had loved my mother with all his heart... What would it be like if he loved me too? What kind of feeling would that be?
I swallowed and stayed quiet. Painful minutes passed during which we simply stared at each other in silence. I licked my lips, "If there's anything you need, Dad. I can get it for you. You just have to say it," I finally spoke after what felt like an eternity. My elderly father looked at me. His gaze stern and twisted. As usual, he didn't answer and looked at the flowers again.
My chest always felt so heavy when I was here. It felt... hopeless. He would never love me. No matter what I did. No matter if I got good grades. No matter if I became rich. No matter if I became famous. Nothing could make him look at me even once. Even when I was sick or got drunk on purpose... He never worried about me. No wonder... I wasn't meant to live for him.
After several minutes, the nurse came into the garden. He looked at me with pity and gave me an encouraging smile. After a brief explanation, he wheeled my father into the bedroom. It seemed it was time for medication and a nap. I headed to the door and put on my shoes there.
"Y/N," I heard, and I turned to the nurse. He smiled politely and handed me a bag, "Good luck with your comeback and belated congratulations," he said with a smile. Surprised, my eyes widened. I bowed to the taller man, "Thank you," I replied and said goodbye to him.
Several years had passed since he started taking care of my father. Of course, he had to sign a confidentiality agreement. I didn't want... anyone to know about my father. It would only stress him out even more...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I entered the studio and placed the cake in the fridge. Then I headed to the sound studio. Minji seemed to be in the middle of recording her part. So, I patiently waited outside the door. Naturally, I took my phone out of my pocket and scrolled through Instagram and TikTok.
My eyebrows raised in surprise. I blinked several times as I noticed a hashtag that involved my name and Yuna's name. I clicked on it and was instantly presented with thousands of videos. I clicked on the most popular ones. My gaze fixed on one video.
The first video showed Yuna and Hyein as MCs at the Jamboree concert. Since it was raining, Yuna seemed to have mistaken our group for hers. Minji and Yuna had a short interaction, both of them started laughing. Yuna's eyes then fell on me. I chuckled, which made Yuna shyly approach me.
The video ended there, but no one knew that Yuna was actually asking me if I had seen Yeji, Ryujin, or Chaeryeong. Unfortunately, Lia wasn't there that day. I smiled and continued scrolling. I came across a similar video where it showed me helping Yuna find the others, and we briefly hugged.
After that, there were several videos of Yuna talking about the interaction with Minji and me in a live session.
The door opened, and I looked up. Minji saw me sitting on the floor and chuckled. She extended her hand, which I accepted. She helped me to my feet and looked at me. I quickly put my phone in my pocket.
"Thank you," I said softly. Minji looked at me for a while. She nodded her head, "Are you okay? You... were gone this morning even before breakfast," the younger girl said, her forehead furrowing in concern as she scrutinized me. I looked up at the taller woman and simply nodded my head, "I should head inside now," I said after a short pause. Minji nodded and watched me as I went into the sound studio.
Inside, I warmed up my voice and then started singing. My eyes were on the sheet music. I needed multiple takes, sometimes emphasizing certain letters more, while barely emphasizing others. It took a while until I was done. After bowing and thanking everyone, I left the room.
Minji was sitting on the floor, while Danielle tried to scare me. I looked at Danielle, raising an amused eyebrow, "We need to work on that. I'll show you how to do it properly next time," I said, and immediately Danielle shook her head nervously. She almost begged for forgiveness. It made me laugh again, but I covered my mouth as usual.
Danielle went inside eventually, and now I looked at Minji. My eyebrows lifted, "What are you still doing here?" I asked, clearly surprised by her presence. She licked her lips and stood up. Her gaze fixed on me. Nervously, I looked away from her. To be honest... Ever since she and Yeji kissed... I could hardly bring myself to look her in the eyes.
"You haven't eaten yet," the younger girl said. I looked at her and hesitated slightly. I blinked a few times. Nervously, I said, "We have to dance now." But Minji sighed. She looked at me for a while. Her eyes narrowed, "Why... do you never listen to me?" she asked, visibly annoyed as she ran a hand over her face.
I looked at her. Confused, my face twisted at her behavior. Minji looked at me. She sighed and gestured for me to go ahead. I did what she asked and entered the dance studio. Inside, Hanni, Haerin, and Hyein were already there. All three were sitting in a circle, discussing something.
I joined them immediately. The three younger girls all looked at me. Suddenly, Hanni grinned widely and nudged me with her elbow. I looked at her, "So, what's exactly going on between you and Yuna sunbae?" she asked, and almost instantly, my eyes widened in surprise. I looked at the younger girl, puzzled.
"Come on, Unnie. Tell us," Hyein pleaded, immediately putting on her puppy eyes. Meanwhile, Haerin was just staring at me again. I noticed my head tilting to the side, "There's nothing going on. But she's cute, I can't deny that," I answered truthfully, and immediately, Hyein squealed in excitement.
Hanni looked at me for a while, "So, you wouldn't mind dating someone younger?" she asked with evident interest. I looked at her and shook my head. Hanni nodded and grinned knowingly. She then turned her attention to Minji, raising her eyebrows, "What about you?" she asked, her tone carrying a certain undertone.
Minji, who had been typing something on her phone, finally looked up. Her eyes briefly met mine before shifting to Hanni, "I prefer older," Minji replied casually, which made Hanni smile knowingly. However, Hyein stared at Minji with her mouth open, gasping dramatically, "Oh my God. So, you have a crush on Yeji Sunbae?" the youngest of us blurted out, even covering her mouth with her hand.
Hanni sighed in annoyance at that, but I was more interested in Minji's response. That could explain why Minji was so aggressive during the kiss. Minji looked at me and then at Hyein, "No," she answered rather seriously, her jaw tensing, "But enough chit-chat. Let's get started. Danielle should be done with her recording soon," Minji immediately changed the subject, standing up.
I nodded and got up as well. I placed my phone on one of the benches. Haerin did the same with hers, "Minji's in a bad mood," she sighed. I looked at the younger girl, surprised by her observation. She sighed again and got into position. However, I couldn't help but look at Minji.
She... was in a bad mood? Is that why she seemed frustrated today? But what caused her bad mood?
As the music of ETA started playing, we got into position. We began memorizing the choreography, dancing and dancing. Even Danielle joined us without questioning anything. It took a few minutes until one of our managers entered with several bags in hand.
We immediately stopped dancing. Minji had ordered food for all of us, unbeknownst to the rest of us. We were all sweaty and out of breath, but we sat in a circle and started eating the ordered food. Minji's eyes followed my every move. I found myself looking at her repeatedly.
I bit the inside of my cheek slightly. I wanted to talk to her, but... if I did, I wouldn't even know what to say. I... just wanted to talk to her. About anything...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My eyes turned to Minji. We were doing a live session to celebrate Minji's birthday. There was a cake in front of her, and we all wore party hats on our heads. I sat right next to Minji. Our thighs were touching, but it didn't bother me. I lit the candles and immediately, we all started singing the birthday song.
Minji smiled as she blew out the candles. We all clapped our hands and looked at the birthday girl as she gave a short speech to our fans. My face relaxed completely as I saw her smile so widely. My eyes were fixed on Minji, only on her. After a while, Minji turned her head to me. We looked at each other for a while.
Then Minji began to smile, and I could feel her thigh pressing more against mine. But then she looked away. Nervously, I swallowed. God... I couldn't look away now. Minji... was too beautiful.
After we all had a piece of cake and talked with each other and the Bunnies for a while, the camera was finally turned off. My gaze returned to Minji as she immediately approached me. She grabbed my wrist and pulled me to my feet. I looked at her with wide eyes, surprised by her action.
"I need to talk to you," the younger girl said. The other four of us looked at them with curiosity. Everyone stopped their conversation and turned to us. Haerin stared, Hyein looked confused, Hanni seemed excited, while Danielle simply glanced between us. I nodded my head, and we then went into Minji's room. She closed the door and turned to me.
"Stop looking at me like that. Not in front of the camera," Minji said. Her eyes scanned my entire face, which now twisted in confusion. I blinked, perplexed, "How do I look?" I asked, making Minji sigh. She swallowed and just stared at me. Her lips parted as she took a step closer.
"Y/N," she breathed out, her eyes locked onto mine, "Why... do you confuse me so much?" she asked softly. Her hands landed on my hips as she maintained eye contact. I swallowed as she moved even closer. I looked up at the taller woman.
I'm the one confusing her? Quite the opposite. She's the one confusing me. Why... does she keep looking at me like that? Why do I have this urge to get closer to her?
I heard Minji let out a soft breath. She looked somewhat amused now. She kept getting closer, causing my heart to race wildly. I swallowed, and my eyes widened. As her lips almost brushed mine, I took a few steps back abruptly. Minji's eyes widened.
I felt my entire face flush. Minji looked at me, slightly shocked. But what exactly shocked her? The attempt to kiss me? Or the fact that I backed away from the kiss?
"I-I'm sorry," Minji started, but I couldn't control myself anymore. Panic was written all over my face as I hastily left Minji's room.
Fuck... I didn't want to leave... but my body acted on its own...

I'm in the car and I'm bored en
SO HERES A LIST OF MY MEDICAL ISSUES IVE HAD THROUGHOUT LIFE 😃
Vaugly related to my fanfic
Tetrology of Fallot (tof): congenital (born with it) heart defect that is basically 4 defects in 1 (I do not have the energy to look up or type all those scientific words rn so sorry)
I've had 3 open heart surgeries to fix it o e at 8 days 10 months and 5 years
Died 6 times on the second one 😃
Ngl life isn't too different with it
If you don't count the yearly doctor visits and can't play contact sports
I mean there's more to it that that obviously but it's mainly small things like getting out of breath quicker and I bruise easy because of having to take baby asprin
BUT the doctors ORIGINALLY said I was never gonna be able to walk or talk or do anything for myself
God vetoed that decision 😌
NOW I NEVER SHUT UP 😁
Got a nifty battle scar down my chest as a souvenir ☺️
And I used to be called smurf baby cause I turned blue alot
I make jokes about it now (hush I'm allowed to )
Ngl pretty sure I'm short cause failure to thrive as a baby cause of that 😭
Don't think there's any scientific backing on that tho for tof patients
Imperferated anus + colostomy bag: basically means I was born without a butthole
Not even joking on that i wasnt
But had to have three gastrointestinal surgeries from that
Don't know the ages or many details but I'm pretty sure I was two for the last one
And I had to have a colostomy bag
Thankfully don't remember it
Buy my waste went into a bag that had to be changed out
Ik it got infected so the scar is bugger than it should be
Seizures: if you've read my fanfic that's explained in detail for how it feels
But that was from aged 5-10
We never found the specific reasons for it
But we do hypothesize it has something tk do with possible scar tissue on my brain
Either from a heart attack/stroke/lack of oxygen from my second heart surgery is what we think it could be from
During a seizure my heart would start beating weird (not good description ik but idk how to describe it really) and my vision would start to tunnel out my tongue would tingle and then I'd black out
During a seizure I couldn't hear anything or see anything but my head would completely start to tingle
From my parents I was told during them I would stiffen up and lock my joints and almost seem to hyperventilate
It was control moderately well by medicine but I thankfully do not have them anymore
Hard hearing: im not like deaf or anything nor do I use hearing aids but my hearing isn't what it should be for a normal teenager lol
This is because during one of my heart surgeries they gave me a drug used on horses and a little too much if it at that (ketamine?)
Legally blind: yeah come to find out last year found out my eye sight is actual crap
Without my glasses I am legally blind
I've got 20/200 vision 😭
So I've got these crazy thick glasses now
Tourretts: neurological disorder where I make these random noises and movents
Got diagnosed back in sixth grade
My tics ate ill make various sounding noises (all kinda of variations of a hiccup for visualization) and my head will jerk back
It was awful before we found out what it was
Got picked on for it quite a bit and a certain teacher of mine essentially told me "just stop bro lol" and I'd get sent out of class for it even after we had doctor notes for it
Just get up out of that wheel chair then then buddy ☺️
They'd get set off my certain things
Music being one of them so I would carry around these earbuds when there was music around so it didn't get set off
I'm on medicine now for it and it's a LOT better
And a recent development (in the past 6 months) I've been able to listen to music again!
The tourretts aren't going away tho
If over been without medicine for more than 2 days it's BAD

Fun stuff 🙂
Surgery is supposed to be on October 5th so we'll see how that goes
Yeah so medical history of mine 😃
That's fine
We'll see what comes next to the collection I can add
Also here's some pics of a couple of my scars (that I can show several are in places I'm not keen of people seeing 😅)
That's my colostomy scar
And near the top you can see a scar from a chest tube from my third heart surgery
And here's a really good picture of my heart surgery scar that I have (goes down to under the ribcage)
On my neck you can see a breathing tube scar
At least I think that's what it is
Also the corner of my lip I have a scar from some sort of tube from surgery (can't see it well on camera
Tbh idk what half these tiny scars are from
I just know they're remnants of surgery
Any way I do know kw I have a couple of other chest tube scars
But they are not in places to be shown
Same with a few dimples near my tail bone from gastrointestinal surgery
But those are there too

For your modern avatar au What if spider has some sort of respiratory diseases, or other chronic inflammatory lung or obstructive lung diseases. Because he has to were a oxygen mask in the movie.
Alright here is my answer finally @peachycrime
Okay, unfortunately my first thought was the fucking 2001 comedy/romance Bubble Boy, so that's cool.
Luckily for you I've been in the reddie fandom hardcore since 2016 so WE KNOW ABOUT ASTHMATIC HEADCANONS IN THIS HOUSE.
I think I'd pick like severe asthma because it just jives for me, but if you wanna go crazy we could really have a fucking Fault in our Stars/Five Feet Apart moment here. Really lean into locorro or spiri here.
-Spider lived with Norm for years because he was the foster parent they had with the most medical experience, but eventually he just was LIVING with Jake and Neytiri .
-Stay at home wheelchair dad Jake Sully with his three little kids under three had none of the attention or free time to dedicate to a kid with medical issues, but him and work from home Norm become a seamless team in the kids toddler years.
-Neytiri had just finished her residency so she was simply flawless with him. He's pretty much a normal kid, he's just got bad asthma. He does all physical activity he can, but he gets out of breath quickly and has to stop for a puff or two before he can get back out there.
-Neteyam is younger but they're in the same grade because Spider got held back because he was so lil because he was a sick kid before Neytiri and Norm got a hold of him.
-He carries around an inhaler and Neteyam also carries around an inhaler because Neteyam may be younger but he is so protective of Spider and so worried about him losing his breath when they are at school and their parents aren't around.
-Tonowari and Jake meet at the playground on a Saturday and all of a sudden Jake is an after-school care, watching his own four kids and Ao'nung and Tsireya (and neighborhood latchkey kid Rotxo who Spider loves because he was also a latchkey kid).
-Ao'nung gets mad at Spider during a game of pickle where they are both the taggers because Spider stops to tag a puff. Ao'nung insists he has to keep going and Spider does and ends up passing out.
-He's not allowed to run or do anything strenuous for two days and Ao'nung is grounded by Ronal for a week. Neteyam and Kiri don't talk to him for a day. He feels really bad though and after that he yells at any kid who tries to get Spider to do anything physical at school until a teacher has to call home and they all have to have a chat lol.
-Neytiri and Norm we're absolutely unbearable for days, hovering over him and making him drink water, while Jake was treating Spider exactly the same. They are disability buddies and Jake would never treat Spider as fragile because he isn't. In fact, they played catch later that night even though Spider was sitting down and it gave Neteyam an aneurysm.
-Lo'ak always explains to strangers that his brother is cool he just has "shit lungs" because he heard Jake say that one time.
-Reddie moment: "Spider Sully Blasts Off!" every time he uses his inhaler.
#bubble boy is so spider coded#neteyam is prematurely grey in every universe#but especially in one where spider is chronically ill and has lo'ak as a sibling#a lot of this is taken from my kid at work with asthma#also i can't even get started on the myriad of ways lo'ak almost kills spider on the daily#it reminds me of my brother and our close family friend#theyre basically siblings#she is deathly allergic to eggs#and my brother is constantly sticking his knife in her butter or offering her some of his food or accidentally taking her fork#were always like are you trying to kill jessie???#imagine this but lo'ak while they have family dinner and everyone else has a spice deadly to humans and spider's bowl is human safe#lo'ak sticking his fork in spiders bowl: can i have a bite#eberyone: oh my fucking god#skksks#miles spider socorro#spider socorro#spider sully#jake sully#neytiri sully#neteyam sully#kiri sully#lo'ak sully#norm spellman#ao'nung#tsireya#tonowari#ronal#rotxo#avatar#avatar the way of water

This is going to sound REALLY stupid, but…
Do you think that mold- a LOT of mold- can make a house more…. Haunted?
I am aware of toxic mold poisoning and it’s psychological effects- don’t worry, I don’t have it. I used a 3 micron particle respirator 8233, N100. I was completely covered, took a shower immediately after painting.
A little context: I was in my basement which flooded a while back. There is black mold, and I painted mold killing paint over it. (Yes, I know it won’t keep it down forever. I can’t replace the walls right now, they’re like cardboard anyway)
I have a medical grade UV light, two HEPA filters, and an industrial style fan blowing the mold OUT of the house down there.
Luckily, the n100 mask made it so I couldn’t smell anything at all, which was awesome. I had glasses, the works, basically. As safe as it could get.
I live in my childhood home alone now. The basement has not been painted since it was renovated in 2001, I was very little. When I started to paint, things were okay for a bit.
When I entered the bathroom, the air purifier turned off, there was a drawer that almost fell, and my paint roller wouldn’t work or kept falling apart when it was working just fine seconds before covering the really bad mold. The mold ghost was mad 😭 I’m kidding, but seriously.
It could be because there’s residual energy, and something doesn’t want it covered up. When my oldest sister was 12, she and her friend “decorated” that bathroom with lots of stencils.
The nostalgia of it isn’t worth the hazards of black mold. Everyone has been a little weirded out with that bathroom now that I think of it, and we never used it because I think the plumbing was messed up.
Every. Time. I went to paint the bad part of the mold, something happened to prevent me from doing it. I got so tired for some reason and practically collapsed when I came up the stairs. Maybe I didn’t have enough oxygen to support the energy it takes to paint walls, maybe it’s haunted, who the hell knows. Thoughts?
