Decorative Sunday

The Warli are an indigenous tribe of western India, living in the mountain and coastal areas along the Maharashtra-Gujarat border north of Mumbai. Their artistic traditions date back 5000 years, with patterns of circles, triangles, and squares that accrete to form dynamic natural forms like expressive, fluid pictograms. Today, these patterns may be found on the walls and floors of both domestic and community spaces in Warli communities.

In The Deep, a limited-edition, hand-bound book, silkscreen-printed by hand on recycled cotton paper with unique cover marbling, and published in Chennai, India by Tara Books in 2020, the brothers Mayur and Tushar Vayeda adapt the Warli style of their community to present the dynamic relationships between human habitation and the depths of the sea. The text by Arun and Gita Wolf is derived from an oral narrative by the Vayeda brothers.

Cousin rivalry - OC concepts (1/6?)

I’ve been meaning to continue my comic that I haven’t updated in checks watch two YEARS?? Oops. I started jogging my memory on it and needed to make some side characters, but I didn’t want them to be boring and then got very very invested in their designs/backstories/relationships. So that’s where I’m at right now.

These are two out of about seven new characters that I made for ~plot purposes~ and my best attempt at concept sheets (thank you, youtube tutorials). They are cousins and rivals since childhood MWAHAHA. They’re good at all the same things, except one is always better by a hair. I wonder if they will eventually learn how to get along? 🤔

I hope to polish up the sketches of the other characters and make more concept art (even though I struggled with these ones an absurd amount). I’m mainly making them for my own reference when making the comic, but I’m excited to share them with you all! Though I start spring semester of school tomorrow so I’ll be back on the grind 😭 Ok enough rambling, bye!!

My HC for Mayuri's skin tone.

The manga implied pale skin while the anime appeared to give him darker tones, there isn't actually any definitive confirmation on how he should look, but because Mayuri is a Hindu name I've always headcanonned him as being Indian <3

There are singing dunes in Kazakhstan. To be more precise there is one dune which is called "Aigaiqūm"(literally singing sand from Kazakh). The dunes are located in national park Altyn-Emel, Zhetysu province/oblast.

The nature of this sound isn't known for certain but it seems to be a combination of shape, size, consistency of sand(it has to be round and of a very similar size) and humidity (the sand does not always sing).

Obviously the dunes in Kazakhstan are not the only ones but there seems to be about 30 in the whole world. They seem to emit the sound of different frequencies.
