There are singing dunes in Kazakhstan. To be more precise there is one dune which is called "Aigaiq奴m"(literally singing sand from Kazakh). The dunes are located in national park Altyn-Emel, Zhetysu province/oblast.
You can listen to the song here.
youtube
The nature of this sound isn't known for certain but it seems to be a combination of shape, size, consistency of sand(it has to be round and of a very similar size) and humidity (the sand does not always sing).
Obviously the dunes in Kazakhstan are not the only ones but there seems to be about 30 in the whole world. They seem to emit the sound of different frequencies.
And isn't this song beautiful?

It took me two watches but of course Nana and the Giraffe work together so well as a backstage team, the movie spells out how much they are literally and metaphorically the food everyone else takes from as their own fuel

ThePandaRedd Appreciation Post: Bill and Ted
This is me screaming into the void that I think my two favorite characters in the comic scene are Ted and Bill from the Pandaverse (the comics universe created by ThePandaRedd's tiktok skits). I freaking love these two because they are hilarious and I gotta say it somewhere.
Consider this a ThePandaRedd appreciation post.
Bill is a very long running Pandaverse character and is a professional henchman in Gotham City. He has been henching long enough to see the formation of the goonion, have batman steal so many of his bones that they're kept ground up in a jar, see the rise and graduation of every robin, batgirl, or other, and become so tired that he can backtalk his most consistent employer---the Joker.
Bill is a jaded henchman, mostly in the job because it's the easiest way to get money in Gotham, and because he's kinda in too deep to quit now. He's one of the best advertisers the goonion has, strongly discourages other people from henching in Gotham, and has so many residual medical issues from getting brutally beaten up by the batfam that he just doesn't care anymore. While he is regularly employed by the Joker, he has also been seen working for the likes of Penguin, Black Mask, and Bane, presumably when the Joker is in Arkham. Most other characters treat him with some instinctive respect for having stayed in the Gotham henching game this long, and he could absolutely go toe to toe with Superman if not just easily secure some Kryptonite and whoop his ass. Fortunately for Superman, Bill sticks to the Gotham scene.
Ted, meanwhile, is a relatively new character, and he has recently moved to Gotham from Coast City (where the Green Lantern lives). Suffice it to say, he is not aware of all of Gotham's idiosyncrasies and is still learning the wheel. If Bill the henchman is to be believed, Ted dropped out of the high school they both attended and may or may not have moved to Gotham for ease of employment.
One of his first appearances was when he'd just joined the GCPD and was trying to covertly get some info on the villain scene by asking Bill about how to start a career in henching. While Bill did not discover that Ted was working for the GCPD, he also gave away pretty much no valuable information since he instead launched into a rant about why anybody would be so suicidal as to try to START henching in Gotham City. His most recent appearance has him presumably out of a job again and noting some of his findings about Gotham as a Coast City Transplant (batburger's overrated, gang territories are gerrymandered, Robins are scarier than Batman, you'll be gifted with a water filter a gas mask and a gun upon moving houses if you send advance notice, etc.)
So, why are these two gag characters from a comic book tik-tok creator my favorite comic book/comic adjacent characters? Because they do exactly what they are designed to and narrow in on the every day.
Comic Books are a sci-fi/fantasy genre that focus on impossible stuff happening, frequently at a pretty grand scale. And while it is super cool to read or hear about stuff like Batman and his adoption problem or Superman being a basically god while still being the most human ray of sunshine ever, that's not even close to my favorite stuff.
No, my favorite type of media to consume is the kind where we get a peek into the everyday of someone in a vastly different circumstance from ours, and feel just how normal they are. I find a lot of comfort and humor in recognizing that even in very unfamiliar circumstances, there will still be simple, everyday things that persist.
Bill might be a goon in a city with some of the most insane and terrifying vigilantes ever, working for some of the most insane and terrifying villains ever, and the city is explicitly a commentary on the general shittiness of urban environments like New York, but that's not what he cares about most of the time. Instead he's busy explaining why you shouldn't smoke to his fellow goons, or dealing with the fact that his employer won't keep a reliable schedule, or having a crisis that he regularly has to run away from a 12 year old dressed like a traffic light or else die trying, or trying to convince people to mask up during quarantine, or promoting that fellow goons "do bad shit safely." And I like to think that if I somehow ended up as an evil goon in someplace as nonsensical and dramatic as Gotham City, I might respond similar to Bill after a while. And that level of normalcy and sanity persisting in such a fantastical environment is both very funny and very comforting. Human nature will persist.
Ted is similar. Everybody who has experienced moving cities knows that it can be disorienting and confusing and even a little scary as you try to figure out how things work, but you'll figure it out regardless and probably have a fun(ish) time doing so. Ted shows that the same principle applies even when those differences get cranked up to 11 and include superpowered and/or impossibly determined and crazy people. He makes my own experience moving cities where I joke and complain about the differences feel validated and it's just so funny to see someone react so normally to such an abnormal situation.
Ted's experience is something that can actually he applied to my own life, like when I learned about Rural vs. Urban stupid zoning laws or trying fry sauce after moving to the mountain west and having to defend my stance that it is an abomination. So seeing someone like yourself doing the EXACT same thing in such an insane circumstance both strikes a chord of truth and makes me laugh myself to the floor.
I also really appreciate that the PandaVerse in general has connected lore for what is basically a gag series used to affectionately parody comics. Something about people actually caring about their jokes enough to make connected lore makes me so so happy.
So thank you ThePandaRedd for creating Ted and Bill, continuing along with them, and making me smile.
Seriously, all this was to say that ThePandaRedd is cool, you should go watch his stuff, and that Bill and Ted are hilarious.

Should I be allowed to include Sims 2 Store/preorder/exchange content in Calcinidae Bay
There are several reasons why I'm keeping Calcinidae Bay CC-free but first and foremost it's to see "how far can I get with only TS2 Maxis content?" and so there's always this nagging voice in the back of my head saying "but this is TS2 Maxis content".
Lots that I share will remain CC-free, and I'm not including Stories conversions. Only things made by EA, for TS2.

Milo Johnson Through the Ages:
Tumblr media
This is post number 6 for The Cross Roads, and the last of our main characters! The Cross Roads is my little pet project of a crossover between Milo and the Phantom Tollbooth, the Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, and Alice in Wonderland. It focuses on all the main kids from those stories going to the same high school and going on whacky adventures through their various Magical Otherworlds.
More info about the AU, additional notes, and non-formatted drawings under the cut. Here are the posts for Alice, Wendy, John, Michael, and Dorothy.
Chicken Scratch Translation (in the order the boxes should be read):
[The Lands Beyond Era. Age: 10. Source: MS Paint pieces by Alice Lidell & Dorothy Gale]
[Notes: While he was quite apathetic and malcontent at this age, his adventure would open him to the possibilities of the world and permanently change his personality.]
[Lovable Outcast Era. Age: 16. Source: Sophomore year back-to-school selfie]
[Notes: Liked by just about everyone, but he has some quirks that keep people from getting close, like his extreme enthusiasm, occasional depressive episodes, and habit of talking about magic like it's real.]
[Insane Teacher Era. Age: 27. Source: School Staff Photo]
[Notes: He's a kind and competent elementary school teacher who is also so enthusiastic that most students are convinced he's nuts. He's basically a male Valerie Frizzle.]
AU info:
The source materials I am drawing from for this AU are: the book for Milo and the Phantom Tollbooth; the 1939 Warner Bros movie for The Wizard of Oz; both the Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass books; mostly the Disney movie for Peter Pan, but with elements of the stageplay and the book as I see fit. This is mostly due to my familiarity with these source materials, but there are a few other canon-welding/writing reasons too.
This is a modern AU taking place sometime between the 90's and the 2010's.
The story will be just about evenly split between slice-of-life high school adventures and a fantastical plot that will take them through all the Magical Otherworlds seen in the original stories.
The school is 7-12. At the time of the main plot, Alice and Michael are 8th graders, Milo and John are sophomores, and Dorothy and Wendy are seniors.
The story takes place in rural Kansas, U.S.A., somewhere around Dodge City (as you may have guessed from Milo's T-shirts). While the original events of Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan still took place in England, both families moved to the same area in Kansas sometime after the events of canon. Milo, was initially from some random suburban town in a different U.S. state. This decision was made for a number of reasons, first and foremost being that I am not British, I'm American, and writing in America will be much easier for me. Secondly, it had to be Kansas because my characterization of Dorothy has her very attached to her home and farm, and they'd literally never move unless they were forced to. Third, the original events of at the very least Alice in Wonderland had to still take place in England, because. . . well, if you've never read the books, let's just say Alice is very British and Wonderland is her creation, and we'll leave it at that.
There will be ships in this AU: Dorothy x Wendy and John x Milo (what were you expecting something straight? This is tumblr!). Dorothy and Wendy are both sapphic, although they're still figuring out where they are under that umbrella. John is gay and Milo is aspec. Since this is the Milo post, I finally did my deep diving into his character, and decided he is asexual and demiromantic. These identities will be respected in his ship. Alice and Michael will not be actively shipped with anyone, but Alice is pan and Michael is the token straight.
These information files exist in universe! Who assembled them? Great question, hopefully I end out writing the damn thing so ya'll can find out. >:')
Additional Notes:
Thanks so much for sticking with me through this art series. It's not the last of The Cross Roads by any stretch of the imagination, but any art I post for them will now be a bit less organized and a bit more "I had brainrot and doodled the kids."
On the ages: So. I based all their ages and the relative time they had their adventures on the Darling's ages, because they're siblings and are spaced out in canon. I decided that the initial events of Peter Pan took place 5 years before The Cross Roads main plot, when Wendy had recently turned 12 and John and Michael were just shy of 10 and 8 respectively. 5 years later puts them at recently 17 and about to start senior year, recently 15 and about to start sophomore year, and recently 13, about to start 8th grade. I do believe Michael's age is incorrect on his post, since I hadn't done all the proper math quite yet.
Anyway, I slotted the other 3 in between them. Alice actually had her first adventure a little earlier than everyone else to account for the fact that Looking Glass is already Time-Skipped from Wonderland. She went to Wonderland when she was 7 (a solid 6 years before the plot), and went to Looking Glass Land when she was 9 (4 years before the plot). Everybody else had their adventures in the year in between those two. Milo had his adventure while he was 10. Dorothy was 13 when she went to Oz, and is one of the oldest kids in her grade.
Other time events include Milo moving to Kansas about a year after his adventure (4 years before the story), the Darlings moving a year after that (3 years before the story), and Alice moving a year after that (2 years before the story). I do have plans to explore the intermediate stages as their group forms, and how they ended out clocking each other as fellow magical interdimensional travelers.
I made up Milo's last name because he doesn't have one in his original book or movie. That's why it's so boring and unassuming. I didn't want to get too crazy with it.
Dodge City Kansas' mascot is actually the Conquistadors, but this is my universe, and if I say it's the Twisters for comedic reasons, then it's the Twisters. Also, Milo is specifically wearing a shirt bought from their baseball team.
I have also updated all previous posts in the series to have links to all other posts. Let me know if I need to make a masterpost.

5, 20, 27 for the music ask game?
hehe music ask i love this. Ok, ramble time!!
5. A song that needs to be played LOUD- Bodys by Car Seat Headrest
wow Static talking about CSH again, how original. BUT SERIOUSLY I ADORE THIS SONG! Definition of a song that is asking you to dance and live in the moment. I want to see this song in a coming of age movie SO badly, you have no idea. But, the amount of time I've fuckin blasted this song full volume is wild. It's beautiful and fun and has some amazing lyrics as well. CSH my beloved <3 I can ramble about these lyrics for a while I really want to paint some of them on a jacket >:3
(Honorable mentions: Dance Yrself Clean by LCD Soundsystem and Slip Away by Perfume Genius. Both INCREDIBLE songs)
20. A song that has many meanings to you-Honeybee by Steam Powered Giraffe
This is maybe my favorite love song ever (competing with Fair by The Amazing Devil) and is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Like holy SHIT those harmonies and lyrics and the overlapping part and the AHHHHH. If you can't tell this is one of my all time favorite songs lol. But it's a song that breaks my heart because I found it through an animatic that is SO fucking sad for one of my favoirte pieces of media, The Adventure Zone. That animatic fucking wrecks me and has made me cry multiple times. So, sometimes it makes me sad, but I still think it's amazing. And it's a song that my mom loves as well, its so fun to sing it with her in the car. :D ahhhh its so good. If you go and listen to any song here, it should be this one.
(Honorable mentions: Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales by Car Seat Headrest and literally any song from the Historians album by Lucy Dacus lol)
27. A song that breaks your heart- Elysian Fields by the Mechanisms and Welly Boots by The Amazing Devil
I have a LOT of options for this one because angst is my absolute favorite (as you know afgdhjsjkl) But this song has fully wrecked my shit SO many times. It's the ending of a narrative album called "Ulysses Dies at Dawn" which means the world to me, and this song is...well. Ulysses dying at dawn. But, the reason why I always return to it is it's stunningly bittersweet lyrics and the heartfelt instrumentals. Also it reminds me of the ending of my book which i also have big emotions about so that doesn't help lol. But this album is a fucking masterpiece and this ending will forever stick with me and make me VERY sad.
Welly Boots is my most listened to song on spotify across like four entire years worth of music lol. This song DESTROYS me and has some of the most beautiful lyrics I've ever heard. Also word for word also connects to my book (the same two characters actually), so I connect it with one of my favorite things I've ever written. Fuck, this song is so amazing. Also is very bittersweet and heartbreaking and ahhhhh
(Honorable mentions: It's ok to cry by SOPHIE, and levers by Roland Faunte (or ANY song by him ngl) )
Thanks for the ask! I fucking LOVE to ramble about my music. I have so many thoughts all the time :DDDD

Hey! Liked your newest art but I have a question, why is bester (I might not have his name right but the guy opposite Vivian) blue? In the comics on the spg website he seems normal but he was also blue in your family tree video so I was curious, what's the reason?
the reason buster's blue is because in the updated version of the webcomic posted to webtoon, it's shown that he has blue skin but hides it from the public with makeup!
fun fact, if you compare that version to the original page, his "normal" skin is actually colored a little greener to show that he's hiding something under the makeup now.
as far as i'm aware, we don't know why buster's skin is blue, but i'd bet it has something to do with the gate he's building, covered in green matter.
