why r ppl saying there is going to be another “mysterious new background character is revealed to be an iconic and significant dude from the books who is a part of the main cast in disguise” twist reveal in s2?? Like sure that old man with glasses in the trailer could very well be marius in unassuming disguise but if that’s the case then I will be clowning on iwtv so hard bcus the Rashid-mand reveal was already cheesy and dumb/outlandish and very bold for an adaptation with nothing in canon even remotely similar to such a soap opera-y twist to pull, and despite it all it worked and we were invested, but TWICE ?? 😭😭😭**TWICE??** I’m not sure that is smth u can pull off twice and have it land. It’s a miracle it resonated once frankly 😭

Hi Nalyra, thank you for always being there to answer questions from new readers of the books, it means a lot!
I've seen people (book readers) disliking David and wishing for the show to erase him, even a small role would not be well received. And so I wanna ask... what do you think of him? From what I can read in the books, I like him, his steadfast belief in Lestat's ability to choose for himself without backing out from the need to point out the truth to him. He's not a doormat, but he still is very protective. What's your opinion of him and do you think we'll get to see him in the show if we get a third season? Thanks ❤️
Absolutely, hope you like the answers :)) I love talking about them, so.... :)))
David... is a beast of his own.
Because ... Anne tried to replace Louis with David.
I have talked about her need to let Louis behind (I understand her need to do so, the grieving part of her was weighing her down), but her trying to replace him did not sit well with the fans, and we have the FB fans to thank for always pushing Louis back into the narrative whenever she would ask them.
That is one aspect of it all.
The other... is that David is, like almost all other characters of the VC as well, at first charming, interesting, and then you dig deeper... and there's an abyss of... not so savory aspects to consider. Most notably maybe found in Merrick.
That's another aspect.
I, personally, find the way Anne was able to find other's voices fascinating, the narration of Merrick is very much "David" (and a lot of people hate it because of that^^), but that in and by itself is so interesting to me. But it adds to the general dislike I have seen, totally apart from the content and the... tendencies David exhibits throughout the tale (and where Anne's own, more than questionable stances wrt this came through).
I think a combination of all of this is why most do not like David.
Personally though I find David fascinating.
He is not my favorite character, and I'm not sure I would mourn it if the show would skip him, or replace him, but his later dynamic with Lestat is fascinating to me.
Because David is made like Lestat, from a Lestat who tries to convince himself with it that he is evil (and fails at that, in stark contrast to Magnus' reaction back then). And though David arrives at the intellectual realization that it has spared him the capitulation much sooner than Lestat himself can accept it, it results in a very interesting dynamic in the later books. Because David challenges Lestat. Fights back - gives back as good as he gets, too, most noticeably maybe in that force-feeding (rape?) scene in "Prince Lestat". He is no "doormat", as you put it.
So that is the book aspect that I for one would like to see explored, because it ties in so much with Lestat's character journey, and his own journey of acceptance, too.
But for the show itself I think there are things to consider wrt the "Immortal Universe".
David Talbot is the Superior General of the Talamasca. A show spin-off they supposedly still develop, if the hints in "Mayfair Witches" and at the SDCC 2023 are any indication.
He is a link between the shows. He and Jesse, and Merrick, and Aaron Lightner, who MW seems to have replaced though.
So that leaves David, Jesse and Merrick.
Somehow they will have to connect, at least if they really want to build that "Immortal Universe" properly. If QotD really has not happened yet in the show that gives it a breather until that introduction can be done, even if the chronicling is given to Daniel on the show.
Given the existence of all the diaries I am not sure if we will get Jesse (who went to Rue Royale after all) or Merrick herself... Though, of course a witch and a member of the Talamasca... (I still don't understand why they didn't introduce her in MW already, I really don't.) Maybe she or Jesse is that "interior designer" :)
We'll see.
I think character-wise there is an interesting dynamic that can be explored, and universe-wise it might not make much sense to omit him.
He could also know about their origins, without the need to introduce Gregory, or Teshkamen, maybe. There is a huge cast of characters in the later books, likely too much for a show. David could theoretically make the connections there as well.

Re: Mayfair Witches: Though I like the newly created character that serves as a combination of Aaron Lightner and Michael Curry it occurred to me last night that there's a bit of classism in this change. In getting rid of the character Michael Curry they got rid of the blue collar character who marries into the wealthy family.  Michael Curry was a bit like Joe Keogh from Fred Saberhagen's Dracula books as Joe was a detective who married into the well-to-do Southerland family (direct descendants of Mina Harker).   And now Michael Curry has been replaced with a fairly posh Talamasca agent.  It almost feels like an unspoken "Lower class need not apply."  Maybe I'm reading too much into it but why else get rid of the only character who wasn't wealthy to begin with and have no other?  I had also felt there was a bit of classism with the 2017 Beauty and the Beast in that the director of that version of Beauty and the Beast felt the only reason Belle would feel like she doesn't belong in her poor village was if she had been born in Paris, suggesting that no one can feel out of place in a humble location if they happened to be born into it.    I don't like that mindset because I once met a bigot who was convinced that American slaves didn't yearn for freedom if they happened to be born into slavery because then slavery is all they had known.   It's like saying the poor never want wealth.   Just because you are born into a certain situation doesn't mean you can't dream of another one.

Alright y'all, I've been wondering about Alice since season 1. Like, she married Daniel and divorced him, had two daughters with him. She may totally be a character the show made up. But I have dug deep into the wiki and have made some discoveries. So, here are 2 characters that Alice could be based on:
This one is less likely, but I'm putting it first just to get it out of the way. She's Alice Mayfair. Her father was Remy Mayfair, brother to Julien Mayfair, aka the Julien they kept mentioning on the Mayfair Witches. Considering how they've moved the setting to present day (give or take a year or two), Alice could be possibly be around the same age as Daniel in the Immortal Universe. But she does have a daughter, Beatrice, that marries Aaron Lightner in the books. In the Immortal Universe, Aaron/Michael Curry were merged into Ciprien Grieve. So it's possible they could use her, and have Beatrice be one of Daniel's daughters. Just with an updated name, or she's going by her middle name. (If I was named Beatrice, I'd probably use Kate or Lenora/maybe Lenore? It looks like Lenora to me.)
2. This one is still related to the Mayfair Witches, but Alice isn't actually a Mayfair here. Let me explain. Cortland Mayfair, aka the worst uncle ever, from the Mayfair Witches, in the books had a half-brother named Gravier Blackwood, bc their dad was a big slut. And Gravier marries a woman named Alice. The wiki only lists her on his page, and with his last name. But they have a son together named Thomas Blackwood. Who has a daughter named Patsy. Who is the mother of Tarquin Blackwood, aka Quinn, the main character of Blackwood Farm. Which is a book in both the VC and Mayfair Witches. So we're probably going to see some version of it, in some future crossover episode. Rowan could even be there bc Gravier was half Mayfair, if the show wants to. And it could sort of tie Daniel into the story, like either Alice calls him up and is like, 'my grandkid needs help. Yeah, the one got from the son I had with the man I married after I divorced you. But he is our daughters' nephew' Or one of his daughters calls up and is like, 'my dumbass younger brother's kid is in a Situation, help out, you owe me.' And then Daniel helps him get in touch with Lestat, and the crew has a zany adventure.
Idk, I only read the book bc it crossed over with the VC books, I don't really remember much. I do remember there was an intersex vampire, who I just looked up named Petronia. (And I don't exactly remember Anne writing that in a way that was respectful. I actually think they use the h-word.) But she was a Roman gladiator who fought animals and shit. When she was 14. So she was pretty bad ass. In the books some vampire named Arion buys her and gives her money and frees her to do whatever tf she wants. Except she has nowhere to go and asks to stay with him, and he eventually turns her into a vampire.
But Arion kinda just vanishes from the books. Though he may have been mentioned and/or in one of the Prince Lestat books, bc I don't really remember much of them. (Getting through the second book was a slog.) So my idea is that they could make Marius her maker, as he was Roman, and the time periods are close enough. Plus Petronia also disappears from the books. I think it would fit with what we've learned about show Marius so far. Buying someone from an abusive place; takes her in to give her a better life, they become lovers, eventually he turns her. I just think it would be neat to have an actual intersex character, since gender is a bit loose when you're a vampire. I think it could give a unique perspective on gender. And also there need to be more intersex characters on TV; they make up over 2% of people in the world. And two percent may seem small, but that's 2% of over 8 billion people. That's 160 million people. They deserve to see people like them on screen as much as everyone else LGBT+ Remember when we called it LGBTQIA? That's the I. Though I hardly ever see them brought up, unless they're being used in arguments about the gender binary. (Which is so weird to me, bc once I learned that being intersex was a thing, I was like, so why do we only say there are two sexes, if there are literally more of them? And my mom was like, Idk how to answer this to a 7 yr old.)
This post got kinda ramblely. But I will mention one more thing. The vampire Sam Barclay, screenwriter and Talamasca agent, who was teased to be another character (tbh it's probably just Laurent or Everard de Landen) could possibly be based on Barclay Mayfair. Being a Mayfair would probably suck as a man, bc only the ladies get the magic juju (except Julien bc he's special). It would explain the Talamasca connection, bc we know they've been watching the Mayfair's for a long time. He could have got vamped after he started working for them. Probably not, but I know they're gonna eventually crossover all the different shows in the Immortal Universe. And they gave Santiago a bigger part on the show, so maybe?

Riffing on the hunter/gatherer brewing tradition, the breweries foraged for wild barley berries and hop cones on the hillsides of Djibouti for weeks and harvested only under the cleansing light of the full moon. When enough of the sacred ingredients had been gathered, they returned to their normal state of being and brewed this beer. Totally Nebular IPA.

Hello, could you please explain Aaron lightner's powers? I would read the witching hour but I can't stand the mayfair witches..thanks!
Tbh I can not, while I did read those books ages ago I could not make myself read them again prior to MW, and... definitely not after. Sorry. Maybe in a while :))
BUT - I found this page, and it lists his powers as:
"paranormal powers include moving objects by telepathy, veiling his thoughts from mind readers, and reading minds"
Which... sounds about right to me, from what I remember?
However, to those of my followers having recently reread the books, anyone want to weigh in here?
