There's video of Larry doing press for that museum opening
I listened to the press! You can tell he's still a little bit of a shy awkward dude, but it's interesting hearing him talk like he's coming to the end of things and looking back. You definitely get that vibe off of him. People say he was joking, but there's a moment where he does say, "This might be my last interview" to everyone there, saying that he doesn't really think he has much else to say now that he's well and truly retired, at least nothing he hasn't felt he's said a million times before. I don't really think he was 100% joking about that haha He's got the rest of his life to enjoy and seems to have been liking staying at home and being retired. It's kind of melancholy to me!
(though he did mention that some of his prior teammates do podcasts and he might show up on some of those, and I'm pretty sure he's talking about Cedric Maxwell, who's alluded to trying to get him, Robert Parrish, and Kevin McHale to pop in. Robert and Kevin apparently were pretty into the idea, but Cedric didn't seem to think Larry would--for good reason--and I didn't really think he would either, but hearing Larry even float the idea during a press conference was surprising and I'm kind of hopeful for it).
This past year has been so interesting. Larry all but disappeared for a while after he retired from the Pacers' front office, and then the past few months has just been coming out and showing up places and doing things. Commercials and openings and interviews and events and all that.
He's mentioned before that he doubts he's gonna live to 70 years old, as someone with his height and health issues, so I'm wondering if, at 67, he's deciding to just button some things down. But that thought makes me sad so I'm not going to keep going on about it ahaha

Walter L.Watson, Jr was an SR -71 RSO. He was the first and only African-American to fly the SR-71. I didn’t know him because he was stationed at Beale Air Force Base after my family left. BUT, I have watched videos of him. Check out YouTube. m.youtube.com/watch?embeds_r…
Watson was born in Columbia, South Carolina, he was the oldest of four children of Walter L. Watson, Sr. and Mildred Platt Watson. After graduating C.A. Johnson High School, he attended Howard University in Washington, D.C where he earned a Mechanical Engineering degree and commission as an Air Force Officer through the ROTC program. Watson later obtained a master’s degree from Chapman College of Orange, CA in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management.
He entered the Air Force as an avionics maintenance officer, but in 1973, he was selected for aviation training, beginning a diverse and distinguished flying career in the Air Force. His first assignment was flying the C-130E in Southeast Asia. He later became a flight instructor, flight examiner, and flight commander in tactical fighter and strategic reconnaissance squadrons that flew F-4C/D/E, F-111D, and SR-71 aircraft. Watson was the first African American and only one to qualify as a crew member of the SR-71.
After completing his flying career, Waston continued to serve in the Airforce in production and training. As Commander and Professor of Aerospace Studies at North Carolina A&T State University, his leadership helped his unit to achieve the following production milestones: 1) 20% of all African-American Second Lieutenant Pilots, 2) 50% of all African-American Second Lieutenant Navigators, and 3) 25% of African-American female commissioners in 1993. These accomplishments led to assignments to a number of leadership positions at HQ Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps (AFROTC at Maxwell AFB, AL). As the Chief of the AFROTC Scholarship branch, he supervised all scholarships for over 5,000 students across the nation with an annual budget exceeding $22 million.
Colonel Watson also served as a key decision-maker for Air Force Relations with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). He received numerous awards and medals over his career time. He was awarded the Brig Gen Noel F Parrish Award which is Tuskegee Airmen Inc.’s highest national award for service and impact.
Thank you Walter for your decision to become an SR-71 RSO. Thank you, Harris Wilson for your idea posted on SR-71Blackbird

"Learn to light a candle in the darkest moments of someone's life. Be the light that helps others see; it is what gives life its deepest significance." ~ Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
The Lantern Bearers
Artist: Maxwell Parrish (American, 1870–1966))
Date: 1908
Period: Symbolism
Media: Oil on Canvas Mounted on Board
Collection: Crystal Bridges Museum of Arts, Bentonville, Arkansas
The fanciful subject matter of The Lantern Bearers is typical of Parrish's work early in the twentieth century and demonstrates the influence of acclaimed illustrator Howard Pyle, under whom Parrish studied at Drexel Arts Institute in Philadelphia. "He emphasized to Parrish the importance of historical accuracy and the need for models to wear authentic costumes if at all possible, for the audience wished to transport themselves into the image and fantasize as to its meaning." Parrish became aware of the commercial appeal of historical scenes and adapted the practice of working from the costumed model.
Instead of spending hours drawing from the actual model, Parrish instead took photographs, a form of artistic shorthand, and worked from them. Susan Lewin, his favorite and most often used model, posed as one of the pierrots in The Lantern Bearers. The seated figure in the lower left of the composition is an almost exact representation of the photograph. Parrish began using photography at the encouragement of Thomas Anshutz, one of his instructors at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts from 1892 to 1894 and it became an integral component of his creative process throughout his career.

Here are some books that I feel have really great wintery vibes (also, they’re all queer!) :
Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson (ya, ghosts, possessed nun)
Icebreaker by A.L. Graziadei (new adult, hockey romance)
Pack Of Lies by Charlie Adhara (adult, spicey, werewolves + mystery in a tiny mountain town)
Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell (new adult, scifi)
The Stick Side series by Amy Aislin (adult, spicy hockey romance series with lots of different queer rep)
All Hail The Underdogs by E.L. Massey (ya/new adult, hockey romance, can be read as a standalone. This one does have a Christmas scene but it’s not a huge part of the story.)
The Lights On Knockbridge Lane by Roan Parrish (adult, spicy, does have a focus on Christmas, but it’s more on the Christmas lights specifically, if that makes sense?)
Part Favors by Erin McLellan (adult, sapphic, spicy New Year’s Eve romance, online friends meet irl and their online flirting turns real)
The Game Changers series by Rachel Reid (adult, hockey romance series, spicy) (specifically Role Model is the one I would recommend for all the wintery goodness)
Could someone recommend wintery books that aren’t necessarily Christmas themed? I don’t celebrate Christmas (I’m a pagan witch) and instead I celebrate the old Norse holiday of Yule or “Jöl”. So any just basic winter themed books of any genre would be cool, or if you have specific Yule themed ones that’s welcome as well!
