Ramble about a special interest, now, go I wanna hear

okay okay okay so!! my favourote book series of all time ever literally ever is called the chronicles of st marys by Jodi Taylor. i literally love it so much UGH andni havent read any of the books in a while so my memory is a little rusty but it is definitely a special interest of mine fhshhfj. basically its about this group of historians who "investigate major historical events in contemporary time" (time travel). its actually incredibly respectful in the way it handles it too.(spoilers under the cut)

it mostly focuses on british history for the most part (its a british bookseries) but they do visit troy, the battle of agincourt in france, constantinople (during the sack might i add which. yeah. that was a stressful moment for sure....) etc etc. its so fucking funny like it has me in tears laughing whenever i read it but its literally do devastating at the same time (my favourite book in the series, "and the rest is history", made me cry 8 times in one read through because of how tragic it is...). but its really well written and researched and youd think with like 14 books in the series, multiple short stories and a spin off sister series it would get a bit stale but honestly it doesnt. the characters are so full of life and, well, character.

speaking of the characters. theres Maxwell who is the main character and who we see everything unfold through the eyes of. shes so funny and witty and doesnt know when to stop which can be her downfall sometimes. she acts a lot through anger and does things very impulsively especially in the beginning. it can lead to some very funny moments (like the time she drove her boyfriend's car into the lake when he gave her the cold shoulder and was rude to her (neither of their faults tbh its complicated fhdhhf)) i see a lot of myself in Max. theres a lot of hurt masked by anger inside of her. shes the reason why i chose the name Max fjdhhf

she faces a lot of struggles as well... but its okay because her best friend Tim is there to save the day (and piss on her a couple of times accidentally). He is my favourite character 100% hes funny in a smooth and charming way. literally such a puppy dog i just want to ruffle his hair and give him treats. also have i mentioned that all of these characters that work at st marys are 1000000000000% audhd like these goobers are so neurodivergent i love em all. but yeah Tim is a proper gentleman super sweet and caring and always there for you but also he ends up going through so much shit and it breaks him it fucking destroys him and its so sad to see...

Markham is my next favourite little guy hes such a little guy a little skrunkly wunkly woo a grimey little goober. his characterisation is pretty weak in the first couple of books but he soon becomes really important and fleshed out. hes the court jester the class clown the village idiot. super funny but he also has a tragic past and when he gets serious he gets serious. while Max and Tim were historians, the ones going out of jumps to different time periods to collect data, Markham is security. he makes sure the st marys building is safe and secure and also goes out on jumps with the disaster magnets also known as historians to make sure they dont get into trouble (its actually more like to get them out of trouble at the very last minute when they inevitably do get themselves into trouble tbh djbfhdj) hes indestructible. hes been shot, blown up, fell off of a 3 story tall burning building, frequently has some sort of illness like mange or worms, and the only bit of permenant damage hes recieved is that a chunk of his ear is missing.

then theres Leon... i have a love hate relationship with him. hes Max's love interest. original Leon from the first 3 books is fine i guess...... he does a lot of shitty things but so does Max honestly.... and their relationship gets ruined over one event where really Max was in the wrong but what she did was understandable... still incredibly morally wrong but yeah.... and neither of them stopped loving each other even when they were apart. and then. and then book 3 throws a massive curveball and kills him off. they never made up with each other. and then Max is rescued from being kidnapped by a younger version of Leon from before they met each other and its rough because this Leon is in a very bad spot and not doing well At All. hes almost a completely different person from who Max knew. and she has to convince him that life is worth living. she knows how the rest of his life will go already. she knows he'll meet her and be happy for a while. and she knows that this is the last time she'll ever see him again. and that she cant even say sorry to him now. and that he will never know what this meeting truly meant to her. its fucking heartbreaking and i ugly sobbed every time i read it. and then she dies gets plonked into a different universe (long story) and in this universe shes the one who died and Leon lived. now this Leon i absolutely love to bits hes so sweet and kind and caring. they both know how lucky they are to be given another chance and theyre not going to screw it up and they really do make it work between them.

theres do much more i could ramble about. like Dr Bairstow and Clive Ronan... or Dr Dowson and Professor Rapson and how those two are totally in love... or how Guthrie or the time Max got stuck in the past... but 14 books is a lot to cover fhshhf I'll leave you with the fact that i actually have a signed copy of one of the books which i am super super happy about !!

Attorneys in a Dolton eviction case that targets Mayor Tiffany Henyard told a judge Tuesday they are very close to a settlement, but that access to the property is still a sticking point.

During the hearing at the Markham courthouse, with participants taking part via Zoom, McStephen O.A. “Max” Solomon, Henyard’s attorney, told Cook County Judge Carrie Hamilton he was withdrawing a previous motion asking to be cut loose from the case.

Solomon did not say why he was reversing his stance, and Hamilton allowed him to remain as Henyard’s lawyer.

The attorney’s motion to withdraw, filed Jan. 2, did not state a particular reason for pulling out other than it is his “wish and decision.”

Solomon has previously been at Dolton Village Board meetings, sitting next to Henyard and advising her, although not introduced as her counsel.

The eviction lawsuit will come back before Hamilton on Jan. 14.

Solomon and Jayman Avery, attorney for landlord Genetta Hull, said they are close to a settlement and most of the back rent owed by Henyard and another tenant, Kamal Woods, has been paid.

Solomon said a check for this month’s rent is due to be turned over to Hull or her attorney on Friday.

Hull filed eviction papers in September, saying Henyard and Woods, a Thornton Township employee, were in arrears on rent by more than $3,300 for the home in the 14600 block of Harvard Street.

In an amended complaint filed by Hull Dec. 2, she said the pair owed more than $13,600 in rent, damages and attorney fees.

According to the amended lawsuit, Henyard moved out of the property sometime in October but Woods still lives there.

He directs the youth program at Thornton Township, where Henyard is supervisor.

Solomon asked the judge at Tuesday’s hearing that Henyard be removed from the case, but Hamilton did not rule on the request.

Weekly BBT Charts - 2024 Week 49

Wicked and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure make big debuts on the charts; new Christmas songs make their way into the charts. More after the cut.

The 2003 version of Wicked makes its splash by locking the top 2 this week. At the top, with 88 plays (5.5 times the plays of the 2nd place), is I'm Not That Girl by Idina Menzel. The song was the one to initially catch my ear when watching the musical, and was repeated en masse over the course of 24 hours. Its 88 play debut puts it as the 2nd biggest debut of the year, only trailing Max & Chloe by Jonathan Morali's April 2024 entrance which scored 118 plays.

However, the #2 song, Defying Gravity by Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, got some more momentum once the hype for the former died down a bit. Through those two songs, Idina Menzel joins a small group of artists that were able to lock down the top 2. The last occurrence of this was in May 2024, when Kendrick's diss track trilogy locked down the top 3. Defying Gravity tied for plays with the #3 song, Distant Dreamer by Duffy, at 16 plays each; the final play being registered at the last minute of this week. The Duffy song was first found in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean's credits, and marks the artist's debut on the charts. You may know her more for her hit song, Mercy, which was a big deal in 2008.

Rounding out the top 5, This Is What Remains by Some Are Lonely dips 1-4, while CJ The X & Rachel Bobbitt's Stay rebounds 38-5. Origami Angel's Where Blue Light Blooms rises 18-6, Obstacles by Syd Matters dips 4-7, and Dusty Eyes by Bedouine finally lands in the top 10 as it jumps 29-8 in its 5th week.

IDK If I'm A Boy by Blue Foster debuts at #9, after being discovered through a video essay by ceicocat on Inside Mari. Then, wrapping up the Top 10 (so to speak) is our first 100% mainstream Christmas song to join my yearly rotation, Last Christmas by Wham!, which debuts at #10. The song marks Wham's first appearance on the charts since Careless Whisper briefly appeared in 2015 (if you don't consider that song to "feature Wham", their previous appearance was in 2014 when Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go charted for some time). Another version of this song also debuts this week, with Carly Rae Jepsen's Last Christmas landing in at #38.

Max & Chloe by Jonathan Morali breaks its 8 week top 10 streak as it falls 5-15 this week. Campusanis' It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Arcadia Bay, a Life is Strange Christmas parody song, splashes in at #13.

Other notable debuts include December by illuminati hotties at #19, Pigmeat Markham's Here Comes The Judge at #21, Skin On Flesh's Terrible And Sad at #32 (first heard in The Wonder Twins' interactive Life is Strange short film "Hope Circle") and the Stone Ocean opening theme STONE OCEAN by Ichigo at #39.

Surprisingly, Christmas songs fell off this week: 23 décembre by Beau Dommage and A Simple Request by Brawl in the Family, both staples of my yearly Christmas rotation, failed to make this week's chart. Shivering Mountains from Wario World, at #46, narrowly avoided falling out of the top 50.

The Grande Mermaid (Unexpected Musicals) — PattyCake Productions music video

Although the pun of trading "little" for "grande" was too good to pass up, the PattyCake guys also did a great job of weaving together Ariana's lyrics to create a fresh take on the classic fairy tale. Not even a natural disaster could stop this project from being completed.

My favorite bits:

reframing "Into You" to be about the whole human world rather than a specific person

the dramatic rescue sequence

Ursula's feigned sympathy, followed by the fantastic riffs and belts as she casts her spell

the ambient ♫ "sha-la-la" ♫ backing vocals from "Kiss the Girl" under "Moonlight"

seamlessly passing the lead on "Dangerous Woman" from Ursula to Vanessa, but with Ariel's voice emanating from the pendant

using "Break Free" as the music for disolving both of Ursula's spells, returning Ariel's voice and Eric's autonomy

Trivia:

Filming for a large portion of this video was delayed due to Hurricane Irma, which severely damaged their beach location and made it inaccessible for several months.

Ariel's tail and top were created by MerNation, Inc.

Urusla's costume was created by Jonathan Shane Ferrell from Makeup and Creative Arts, who they'd worked with on several previous projects.

Emma has reprised her role in the Princess Academy series, as well as for PattyCake's original song "Fish Out of Water" and a cover of "Part of Your World" that they released to coincide with the live-action Little Mermaid movie.

Both Emoni and Rachel have reprised their respective roles in PattyCake's Villains Lair series.

The guys had met Emoni when she was a member of Ten, who competed against VoicePlay on the fourth season of The Sing-Off. She subsequently joined the boys for the 2014 Sing-Off tour.

Layne and Tony had previously recorded an excerpt of "Problem" as part of VoicePlay's "Aca Top 10 – Summer Hits 2014" countdown.
