The Son (Movie Review) | Feels Real and Confusion at the Same Time
The Son might be a bit rough because of the subject matter, and the pacing but it's worth checking out. #TheSon #HughJackman #LauraDern #VanessaKirby #ZenMcGrath #FlorianZeller
I saw this movie months after it came out and yet I knew nothing about it. I was interested in director Florian Zeller‘s first feature film The Father, which just like The Son is from a play written by Zeller himself who also worked on the screenplay with Christopher Hampton (Atonement, Dangerous Liaisons). The film stars Hugh Jackman, Laura Dern (Wild, Jurassic Park), Vanessa Kirby, newcomer Zen…

📚 March Reading Round-Up 📚
Read some pretty great books in March, and there's a few I'm still reading that I hope to finish in April!
I was able to continue some series that I've been reading, such as The Murderbot Diaries and Kushiel's Legacy. I also finally finished the Imperial Radch trilogy!
- House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J Maas (partial re-read, Partial re-read, very good, kept wanting to read more, didn’t cry but felt the Emotions, friendship! Connected much more to some characters this time around)
- Divinity 36 by Gail Carriger (Good, engrossing, very emotional, lots of heart at its core, enjoyed it more as I continued reading)
- This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone (thank you Bigolas Dickolas for the push to finally read this book! Loved the audiobook, beautiful, not as confusing as I’d feared, loved how their relationship developed, the prose and metaphors and language…)
- Traveller's Joy by Victoria Goddard (Good, emotional, heartwarming, some sadness and dramatic irony, friendship!)
- Kushiel's Chosen (finally got to the second book, and it didn't disappoint! So good, kept binging it, so emotional and philosophical, heartbreaking at parts, loved it even more than book one)
- Network Effect by Martha Wells (so good and readable, Murderbot my beloved, loved seeing the characters and their relationships and Three, Murderbot being rescued!!!!)
- Ancillary Mercy by Ann Leckie (Read it in one sitting immediately after finishing Network Effect, so very good, loved the themes and characters and how they developed and grew, that ending!)

Charlie Chaplin is 'The Great Dictator' on Max and Criterion Channel
Ernst Lubitsch knew it, and so did Charles Chaplin: comedy is the best weapon against hate. Like Lubitsch’s brilliant To Be or Not to Be, Chaplin’s The Great Dictator (1940) satirizes Adolph Hitler, Fascism, and the Third Reich with his own stock in trade: vaudeville burlesque. Chaplin leaves the Tramp behind and takes on his first speaking roles (or rather, roles) to play both 20th century…

I taunted the writing gods and in return they have sapped me of any will to write (aka: I am tired of being home and need to go back to campus and be busy again). All of my stuff I have written feels boring and I don't want to finish it and/or can't commit to something new to start.... and then I got the idea of MarieJordan arc of the scythe AU, and whoa, the juices are fucking gushing out of me, like... Jordan as Rowan, Marie as Citra, Faraday being BUTCHER of all fucking people. Like, I can totally see Jordan getting their question wrong just to even out with Marie. Homelander as Goddard, oh my god.
I have not fleshed anything out further than this tbh but my god do yall not see the fucking vision
Edit: Oh MY GOD- Nueman as fucking high blade Xenocrates!!! Hughie being fucking greyson! I mean, just wow. Becca as Curie because you can not tell me that kind hearted women doesn't cook dinners for the families and offer them the chance to kill her. Tbh I read the the first book years ago and don't remember any traits of the other characters but my god, the fucking VISION!!!
(when the series is developed into an eight- ten episode a season with each ep being an hour HBO MAX orginal show (I'm manifesting it) the only confirmed white people should be Rowan and Greyson. Let Rowan be the 'dark and edgy' guy that teen girls fawn over and let greyson be the 'omg he is so cute and wholesome' guy. Everyone else, fucking diverse. Either Black Curie or Black Faraday- they can't both be white, black or at least not white Citra, South East Asian Goddard, keep the canon races of everyone else cause Goddards crew was actually diverse and once they start travelling shit just stays diverse as )
#gen v#arc of a scythe#limoreau#jordan li#marie moreau#mariejordan#yall probably don't see it#I am smushing together two already microscopic fandoms#the chances of overlap in audience feels small#but like#this is beautiful#I edited this#and that edit just turned into me ranting about the potential show series

Another fun conversation I found while digging for those tidbits, this one about Maxwell and Pryce
Gill side note: while there is some exterior material to canon suggesting Pryce and Maxwell would Not get along it's very funny because how many steps from "I can rewrite a memory" and "experimenting on an AI unit to expand his capacity" is it really to hard-coding anxiety into an AI's personality matrix, and from there to scooping someone's brain out to replace it with a glorified RC rig Kat for real Gill this is unexplored territory people!! Kat I think Maxwell wants to believe she's an ethical AI scientist but when the rubber hits the road….she's not that different from Pryce Gill you'd rewrite them against their consent when you believe it's necessary just because your parameters for "when it's necessary" are narrower and less nakedly self-serving doesn't mean that isn't what's going on Kat I think she would see that as the 'kinder' option versus deleting Hera, but at the end of the day you're violating her consent when she was explicit that she'd rather die Gill you're still changing the building blocks of someone's identity based on what you believe is best for them against their explicit wishes not to Slippery Slope Argument but it would have been very fun to see Maxwell go off on Pryce and then have Pryce hit her upside the head with a devastating "we're not so different" speech Kat shame Maxwell didn't make it to s4 so she could be the restraining bolts and be like hm is this the inevitable slippery slope of my actions Still wonder how Maxwell thinks invented AI since she'd never heard of Pryce. was Cutter just like here's this cool tech. don't ask where it came from Kate I keep forgetting that… They don’t keep her secret, she co-published the DSSPPM Kat I guess that's true, it's possible she knew who Pryce was but just didn't recognize her Gill Maxwell: Surely, like all tech corporations, there is a large team of brilliant engineers who worked round the clock on this whose names will never be known in their lifetimes. The idea of the rock star genius entrepreneur is a myth. Dr Pryce: lol Kat actually no looking at the script, Pryce uses her name and Maxwell still asks who it is someone never read the survival manual Kate I can definitely imagine no one knows what Pryce looks or sounds like though Reclusive scientist And oh, huh Kat someone hearing Pryce talk for the first time: blorbo from my AI programs? Gill I mean how often do you pay attention to the authors of your Mandatory Corporate Reading Assignment Literature Also, side note; comms director Minkowski going ballistic on Alien Zombie Maxwell upon finding out she never even read the manual Kat Cutter: everyone kept complaining to me that 'oh your evil daughter killed and ate an intern' 'oh your evil daughter weaponized the microwave' like get over yourselves. now none of you get to see her there is canonically a separate si5 manual. Maxwell probably also didn't read that one Gill She’s like me, Re: the “Anything that’s actually important is something you learn while actually doing the job” attitude Kat Kepler: And you both read the SI5 manual correct Jacobi, deepest sigh of all: yes sir Maxwell sotto voice: kissass Maxwell had to read the fucking Bible as a child she's had enough of this shit Gill Apropos of nothing at all I am now imagining Pryce adding as an aside in an evil monologue “and also, I have prion disease” Kat Pryce: The rogue proteins keep dismantling my brain but I keep building it back together again faster Gill Goddard Futuristics rolls out a new treatment/preventative for prion disease Why did they make this? Don’t worry about it Kate “It’s for all those poor mad cows in England :) don’t worry about it :) “ Gill As in the alternative to “also I have prion disease” is “also one of my superpowers I invented for myself is immunity to prion disease. Do not ask why I did this or why it was needed.” Kat but yeah it's a shame even with alien zombie Maxwell she can't really have a Confront Your Dark Potential with Pryce bc Miranda's semi-confused about the whole thing Hera will just have to yell at her
Gill Alternatively you flip it. Build the narrative so that Miranda is like “oh my god is this what I was like??” And Maxwell goes “wait no you’re supposed to be my cautionary tale shadow archetype” Kat alien zombie Maxwell being perma-brainfogged due to the whole bullet to the head thing: man this sucks Miranda: I could probably try neural reconstructive surgery Maxwell: uh Hera: what :) does that idea bother you for some reason : ) i'm sure it would be fine : ) Hera briefly throwing behind Miranda 100% for the only time in her life Kate Maxwell and Miranda together would be. Nightmarish for Hera and an emotion I would LOVE to see Kat Doug: I mean I'd still be ok with her trying to fix my lungs Hera: no shut up. I want her to cut open Dr. Maxwell's brain Gill Hera like “both of them are the bad guy and lesser of two evils relative to each other. I have sympathetic feelings for both and wish to have them near me as little as possible. I want to see them fight to the death” Kate And she is So valid

HEY, HERES A BIG ASS THEORY BOARD I GOT FOR MAX’S NICKTOONS UNITE AWAKENING AU BECAUSE ITS JUST THAT GOOD.
If I had a nickel for each time I got into a comic series/mini fandom that is based off a game where characters crossover and I’ve made a theory note based off of it, I would have two nickels now
FACTS: • SpongeBob and everyone else in bikini bottom used to be human • Goddard was a real dog at one point • Goddard only made it to 45% in the memory transfer • A cat like robot was sent to target Jimmy. • Jimmy lost his arm in battle protecting Timmy after Timmy went off of the plan • Danny’s parents were killed by ghosts • Danny’s parents knew that Danny was a halfa and accepted him. They saved him after the initial incident • When Danny goes into his ghost form. He loses complete control • Timmy was known for making people suddenly forget after robberies • All Jimmy could find about Timmy was missing child reports
THEORIES: • The nuclear event that caused SpongeBob to be like this might have been based off of the nuclear testing in bikini atoll • Jimmy was shown to be a kid with his lab still intact during Godard’s story. So this must have been before he got sabotaged • The cat was sent by whoever sabotaged his science experiment
Random thoughts: • Someone at this point just put Jimmy out of his misery • Lots of known facts are left in the past from OLD tumblr posts and deviant art • Color blue is important • Jimmy is kinda pathetic at times • WHERE DOES JIMMY GET $5000 PER MONTH TO PAY TIMMY??? • I GOT A HEADACHE AS SOON AS SING ME TO SLEEP STARTED TO PLAY OWEEEEWWWWW
Possible important stuff:
“Anywhere, anytime, I would do anything for you. Remember me now, time cannot erase. I can hear your whispers in my mind. I’ve become what you cannot embrace. Our memory will become our lullaby” ^^^ This is from Alan Walkers’s “sing me to sleep”

📚 April and May Reading Round-Up 📚
I wasn’t able to post my April round-up, so have both April and May together! I am glad that I was able to read more books for both of these months than in March.
I started a few new series (Tiffany Aching, Maisie Dobbs, the Craft Sequence), and continued a few other series (the Memoirs of Lady Trent, October Daye).
In April, I read:
- The Tropic of Serpents by Marie Brennan (very good, enjoyable and compelling, liked it even better than the second book, great relationships and character growth, liked the way motherhood and grief were tackled, touched on themes such as colonialism and research ethics)
- How Not to Marry a Prince by Megan Derr (cute, fun, somewhat heart-wrenching but with a lovely ending, liked the themes surrounding class and privilege)
- Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear (good, interesting, liked how it tackled healing and war and trauma, definitely cried at the end)
- Derring-Do for Beginners by Victoria Goddard (read it in one sitting, very relatable protagonists, loved the worldbuilding and the themes, happy to see younger versions of favourite characters, much growth and introspection, some of the emotional fulfillment will have to wait for the next book)
- I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy (listened to the audiobook read by the author, compelling, kind of horrifying and depressing, very funny, great prose, banger chapter endings)
In May, I read:
- Half a King by Joe Abercrombie (read it in one sitting, bittersweet, good, interesting worldbuilding and politics, great character relationships and interesting character growth)
- Birds of a Feather by Jacqueline Winspear (good, enjoyed it more than the first book, engaging, bittersweet ending, liked the themes)
- A Local Habitation by Seanan McGuire (very good, read it in one sitting, a bit less depressing than the first one, sad but with a hopeful ending, good character growth)
- Clary Sage by Victoria Goddard (amazing!!! delightful read, loved all of the characters, so very heartwarming, Hal my beloved)
- Three Parts Dead by Max Gladstone (read it in one sitting, loved the MC’s motivations and character growth, interesting magic system, loved the themes at the heart of the book, commentary on justice and policing and belief, taking on the patriarchy)
- Le Comte de Monte-Cristo, Vol. 1 by Alexandre Dumas (good, very political, very grounded in the societal issues and references of the time, thoughts on morality and justice and the prison system, poor Dantes, liked the different perspectives)
- The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett (amazing, read it in one sitting, loved the themes and Tiffany’s entire character and character growth, felt very much like the books I used to read as a child in the best sort of way, the frying pan!)
- Pardonable Lies by Jacqueline Winspear (highly enjoyable, compelling from the very beginning, better than the two previous books, much character growth and nuance)

Hi guys! I’m back to writing!!!!
With my one of my lovely best friends motivating me on, we are writing a collaborative work on Ao3, which will also be posted on my Wattpad later. As a little treat for the holidays, I am posting the summary, the first few paragraphs of the work and the link to finish reading the chapter if you like it, so here it goes:
Summary
Join the Cast of Holby and Casualty as part of the Harry Potter universe. Between classes, wizard duels, Voldemort’s return and everything in between, join three unlikely heroes in the journey to saving Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Chapter 1: Prologue (preview)
31st October, 1998
Kevin had already gone to bed by the time Jools had been awoken by her child's whimpering cries. Sensing something was wrong, Jools pulled out her wand and raced to Sah's bedroom, where she found her child crying in their crib, a haunting figure standing over them.
Jools waved her wand, snarling as she walked into the room. "Depulso!" She yelled. A bolt of light blue energy flew at the figure, pushing them back. The figure crashed against the wall, knocking over the bookshelf.
This did not deter the figure, however, and he regained his stamina quickly before starting to retaliate. "Expelliarmus!" He yelled.
However, to Jools ears, this was drowned by the send of Kevin shouting "Protego", sending the red spark of the figure's spell shooting off and creating a dent in the wall at the back of the room.
"Take Sah and run, Jools. Get out of the house." Kevin ground out, taking an offensive stance in front of his wife and child. Jools tried to argue, but the figure was already flicking his wand.
